The Aspire Spryte is classed as a pod kit and is refillable and with this one you can swap out the BVC coils and unusual for a pod kit – it features an adjustable airflow control.

There are two coils inside the box one of which is specifically tailored to nicotine salt based e-liquids though both can be used for free base nicotine.

A Little About Aspire

Aspire are one of the most established and best loved vaping companies on the planet who seem to churn out game changing and much admired kits and tanks.

For a start there’s the vape game-changer that was the original Nautilus tank and then a whole series of tanks carrying that famous name including: the Mini BVC and the much heralded Nautilus 2 and the Nautilus 2S included with the Aspire Zelos 2.0 kit.

As for sub ohm tanks who can forget the original Cleito – wow – the awesome Cleito 120 and the latest in the line the Cleito Pro. They’ve made some bloody good mods along the way too – but this is becoming a bit of a gush fest lol.

Incidentally my apologies for lack of photographs as I said this was brought in for another project and I only took the bare essential photos before giving it away…oops!

OK the Aspire Spryte was sent to me free of the charge – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are unaffected by freebies. Lets see if this can earn a place on out best vape pod list!

Key Features

The Aspire Spryte is, IMHO, a crossover kit – as in it’s an AIO [all in one] crossed with a pod system and is re-fillable and the coil can be removed and replaced.

The coils are those extremely popular BVC type [bottom vertical coil] and in the kit there’s two types. A regular BVC with resistance of 1.8ohms and another BVC with 1.2 ohm resistance. The latter is designed specifically for nicotine salt based e-liquids though both can take regular juice.

spryte coils

The Spryte has a max output of 12w and the pod capacity is an EU TPD friendly 2ml and 3.5ml for the rest of the world. To vape you can either use the fire button or just by taking a draw. And whilst the 510 drip tip is proprietary it’s comfortable and includes a dust cap. The Spryte can also be vaped on whilst charging – known as pass-thru.

spryte components

There’s a few safety features built in including a 15 second cut off time – short circuit – low voltage and over-charging – the device will shut down if left plugged in but please NEVER leave any vape device unattended!

Design and Build Quality

It’s rare you’ll find a bad build from Aspire and that’s the case with the Spryte it’s very well put together. I found no issues taking it apart to swap coils and alter the airflow. Filling like most pod kits is a little fiddly – we really should find a better way than a silicone bung – but at least it’s attached and most juice bottle nozzles fit.

Design wise it looks very cool and I do like the way it looks standing up at an angle – it can and does knock over though lol. However given the USB port is on the base the Spryte tends to spend most of its time on its side – as to leaking I’ll get onto next.

The Spryte is very pleasing to the eye – light as a feather though feeling substantial thanks to the alloy body and comes in a variety of very smart colours.

So let’s see how this one vapes.

How Does the Aspire Spryte Perform?

OK as I’ve explained the two coils included in the kit are designed for two different types of e-liquid – regular and nic salt based. However both coils can take either e-liquid so it’s down to user choice. Both are designed to be vaped Mouth to Lung (MTL) style.

In general a nic salt based e-liquid tends to have a higher nicotine content but due to the extraction process has a smoother vape with less of a throat hit. Whilst regular or ‘free base’ e-liquids tend to have a sharper throat hit – which many new vapers in particular prefer as it mimics the smoke from lit tobacco hitting the back of the throat.

It’s a bit of a balancing act and new vapers should try both to find which is best for them – for more info read Michelle’s awesome article: Guide To Nicotine Salt E-liquids.

Vape Experience: 1.8 ohm BVC Coil

This one is designed specifically for the free base e-liquids and in this case I used Legato from Black Note which has a 50/50 VG and PG ratio.

I let it sit for a good 15 minutes once filled and like most coils was expecting a bit of a break-in time – as in sometimes the coil needs quite a few puffs to get the flavour popping.

I needn’t have worried – straightaway I got that robust deep and almost dry Kentucky blended tobacco flavour coming through. Whilst as you might expect – not as flavoursome as say in the GeekVape Ammit MTL RTA or Ehpro True tank – the flavour was definitely acceptable and surprisingly very good indeed.

Vapour wise – look with these kind of kits and given my chosen juice was a 50/50 blend we ain’t gonna be chucking clouds – but the vaper was acceptable…OK good!

Despite the Spryte being just maxing out at 12w – I was impressed by the throat hit too and that’s despite the Legato being smoother than some tobacco e-liquids out there.

In a nutshell – impressive!

Vape Experience: 1.2ohm BVC Coil

Given this is specifically designed for nic salts I used Super Berry Sherbet from Double Drip – another 50/50 PG VG mix.

I choose this one specifically in the hope the sherbet would help with a more pronounced throat hit given as I’ve explained nic salts tend to be a much smoother vape.

I was right – that added fizz really did tickle my tonsils giving me a pretty good hit into the bargain.

Flavour wise this one really popped – it is after all quite a deep blend with lots of berries and fizziness going on. Again it falls short of an Mouth to Lung (MTL) RDA for flavour but hey that’s to be expected. But even at such a low wattage [I tend to MTL vape at around 18/21w] I was impressed.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Good flavour
  • Decent vapour
  • No leaking
  • Airflow control
  • Pass through vaping
  • Replaceable coils
  • Choice of Aspire BVC coils
  • Great battery life – 8 hours solid vaping
  • Quick charge
  • Great design
  • Choice of colours
  • Cheap as chips!

Cons

  • Filling a little fiddly – but aren’t most pods!

Final Review Verdict

As you can see from the long list of pros and just a single con – the Aspire Spryte is an impressive piece of kit. It’s ideal for the brand new vaper and brings a little something to the table for the more established of us that need a kit that’s highly portable and pocket friendly for when we’re out and about.

As I said at the start I gave mine away to a smoker desperate to quit the cancer sticks and can happily say she’s not smoked for 2 weeks now – proof positive!

The design is smart – the fact you can swap coils is excellent and of course being able to alter the airflow in a pod/AIO means you can tailor the vape to suit. Tightly closed off and this is as good an MTL vape you can get with flavours right up there with the best.

I found little or no difference between the two coils for flavour though if you really want a sharp throat hit then the 1.8ohm coil with a 50/50 VG PG is more suited – from my experience at least. BTW I did run a tank full of Punk Grenade Raspberry at 70/30 VG PG and found it wicked like a champ!

The Aspire Spryte is a cracking and highly adaptable little set-up and one I highly recommend.

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA...
