Innokin MVP2 Voted APV of year 2014Innokin MVP2 – Long Life in a Little Box

2015 Update – Innokin MVP2 Voted Best APV by readers in the 2014 Ecigclick E Cig Awards!

If they aren’t already, Innokin are quickly becoming one of the biggest and most innovative brands on the e cig market. Just take a look at the Cool Fire 2, Vamo V5, VTR and SVD, all offering a good solution for all kinds of vapers.

This brings us on to another member of the Innokin iTaste range, the MVP 2 Mod that won number one spot for ‘Best APV’ in the Ecigclick Awards 2013/14. This is an updated version of the already popular MVP with added features including variable wattage and was purchased for the purposes of this review.

Innokin iTaste MVP 2 reviewIn the box / Presentation

The iTaste MVP 2 comes neatly packed in an acrylic box and contains the following:

  • 1 X MVP 2
  • 2 X iClear Dual Coil Clearomiser
  • Charging cable with 3 connectors inc iPhone charging capability
  • Instructions

Body, design & function

Innokin iTaste MVP 2.0The MVP 2 is basically just a rectangular box which doesn’t sound too exciting but for me the simplicity of the design is a plus point, I personally like it.

It’s really well made to boot with the matt black finish on the body (other colours available) and brushed steel plates to the top and bottom it’s a real pleasure to hold.

There is also the digital display control panel on the side that allows for control of the MVP2 which we shall look at a little more further down this review.

The bottom of the MVP 2 houses the input /output ports, the input is used to charge the device via a USB lead and the output works in reverse allowing you to charge external devices by way of mini & micro USB’s as well as 32 pin iPhones/iPods.

MVP 2 E Cig ControlThese are of course just to be used for a backup, I have managed to put this into action with my Sony Xperia Z when I ran out of battery without my charger with me and although slow to charge it gave me enough power until I made it back to my charger.

i taste mvp 2 phone chargerThere is also an on/off switch on the bottom that serves the output, this sits flush so as not to affect balance when sat on it’s end. A battery level indicator is also included by way of green, amber and red lights on the power button letting you know when a recharge is imminent.

The main feature of the MVP2 of course is the high capacity 2600mAh battery which can easily see me through 1.5 – 2 days of vaping before charging is needed. The fact that the battery is fixed maybe be a negative for some but for vapers that are looking for a simple ‘plug and play’ device it’s perfect.

Functions

The main functions that affect the way you vape are of course the variable wattage and variable voltage. Variable voltage has a range of 3.3V to 5.0V in 0.1V increments and variable wattage has a range 6.0W to 11.0W in 0.5W increments.

innokin mvp2 vv vw displayOne other thing is the slight rattle in the ‘P’ and ‘U’ buttons, I also found this on the Vamo V5 but again it’s not a major thing and isn’t detrimental to the MVP 2 as a whole.

On a plus point the actual display itself is one of the clearest I have come across.

The other features accessed within the digital display are the ohm’s meter showing the resistance of the attached clearomiser/tank, battery voltage and puff counter.

The latter is not much use but does no harm being there, could be interesting for some vapers who may want to keep a track of how much they are vaping each day or how many puffs they get from certain e-liquids at different voltage or wattage settings.

There are also functions including:

  • Short Circuit/Atomiser Protection
  • Over-Discharge Protection
  • 10 seconds cutoff

Overall

The MVP2 has a great build quality overall (aside from slightly rattly ‘P’ & ‘U’ buttons) and feels great in the hand. The digital display is bright clear making for easy reading of all available functions.

Vapour / Flavour

The Innokin MVP 2 e cig has an EGO/510 compatible thread so will fit a number of different clearomiser tanks and comes with a collar that sits between the MVP and the clearo to make it look a lot slicker.

Innokin iTaste MVP 2This particular kit I bought came with an iClear 30 clearomiser. Vapour Room includes two rebuild-able iClear Dual Coil XL clearos in their starter kit. There is no e-liquid included though so be sure to add this to your order if you haven’t already got some! I used Squid Ink from Kraken E Cigs which I can highly recommend!

Controlling the various functions is done through the digital display point on the side of the box by way of two buttons, ‘P’ for power (wattage) and ‘U’ for Voltage. The control of each of these is easy enough, if for example you want to use the wattage setting simply press the ‘P’ for 3 seconds, this will show the current wattage, to change this press the ‘P’ button again to cycle through to your required setting. Very simple. innokin i clear 30 clearomiser

I’m not a huge fan of having to cycle one way through the numbers but that’s just a personal thing that I did get used to quickly and by no means effects the overall use.

For those new to using a variable voltage / variable wattage e cigarette it will just be a case of playing around with the settings until you find one that suits you. This could change depending on the e-liquid you are using, different flavours can react differently to the voltage or wattage setting you choose. It’s nice and easy to get the hang of though and it is worth it when you find that vaping sweet spot.

I personally settled on 9W with Squid Ink juice as this for my taste buds gave great flavour as well as clouds of vapour. The higher you go in the settings the hotter the coil is heated which in turn produces a warmer vape and more vapour. Some e-liquids can get a pretty horrible burnt taste at the higher end of the spectrum but again that depends what juice you have in your clearomiser.

The lower end of the spectrum of course produces the opposite, not as much power output results in less heat to the coils which in turn results in less vapour production and on most e-liquids I have tried less flavour.

Overall – All good here, the VV/VW functions are easy to use once you get the hang of it and the vapour/flavour produced was also very good.

Overall – Or For those that Skip to the end!

There is good reason why the iTaste MVP2 was voted best APV by hundreds of vapers in our Ecigclick Awards 2013.

I found the Innokin iTaste MVP 2 to be a fantastic electronic cigarette. The build quality is very good, the battery life superb with the 2600 mAh battery and vapour volume / flavour produced certainly did the trick for me.

There were limited negative points for me, the only thing would be the slight rattle from the ‘P’ and ‘U’ buttons but this is really just picking at things and doesn’t in anyway take away from the function or feel of the MVP 2. Certainly one of the best e cigarettes of it’s kind in the UK at the moment.
