The chances are, if you’re a vaper, that you’ve heard of iJoy or used at least one of their huge range of products.

iJoy is one of vaping’s biggest names on the back of outstanding design, true innovation and regular releases. They’ve introduced 20700 batteries to the vaping world with their recent release of the Captain PD270…which is undoubtedly one of the finest mods I’ve ever owned.

I’m a big fan of this Shenzhen brand and I’m not the only one, almost any RDTA user will be familiar, to some extent, with the iJoy Limitless RDTA range, as well as with the original Combo RDTA, yet another innovation from this outstanding brand.

This first for RDTA’s was a high capacity RDTA with a range of 6 interchangeable build decks…truly versatile, it was hugely popular and it’s easy to understand why, but it had its problems, some worrisome 510 issues and a tendency to leak, which is my pet hate when it comes to RDTAs and the reason I’ve never been too big on them.

Build Quality & Design

Well, on opening up the top notch plastic Combo 2 box, I’m met with a lovely sight.

The 54mm high, 25mm wide Combo 2 RDTA is a thing of beauty. I have the black version (there’s black, rainbow, red and gunmetal) and the first difference I notice between this and the original combo is the gold colored base.

The original had the gold colored filling ring and plated decks but this one has a lot more gold to be seen and the colors just pop and together with the gold colored ULTEM goon style/wide bore drip tip, it’s just a knockout.

I remove it from it’s snug packaging to inspect and am instantly impressed by the perfect give on all the o-rings when I begin to dismantle it…all except the ULTEM tip, which might fool you into thinking it’s not removable, so tight is the fit.

The 25mm base features a good looking, easily adjustable 510 pin that can also be removed to swap out your IMC decks, which are interchangeable throughout Combo 1 and 2.

The base is really nonexistent as far as grip goes so when you’re screwing this in and out of your mod, you might have a tendency to grip the glass, don’t. Sometimes that Pyrex will turn all on its lonesome, rather take a hold on the shiny refill band to screw in and out.

The two big o-rings peeping through the glass at the base look great against the gold and also allow for both snug fit and easy removal, they’re very high quality o-rings, perfectly sized.

The 25mm diameter, combined with the 54mm height make this a great fit for your bigger mods, I’ve got in on the Captain PD270 and it’s a match made in Heaven.

The top cap, which in the iJoy Combo V2 is slightly extended and boasts that wide bore ULTEM tip, comes off wth perfect ease, superb o-rings, excellent machining and a great, solid stainless steel construction.

Now, the brand lists a rounded internal top cap as a feature but while I see some good space there, to cut down spit back, I see not much rounding, nevertheless.

The top cap has a stepped edge and is super easy to turn in order to adjust the massive cyclops style dual airflow slots on the barrel. Each airflow slot is 1,3 mm thick and a full 1,5 cm long. When your airflow is open and you’ve not fitted coils, you can look clear through the device. Adjustment resistance is perfect, you won’t need to juice these rings.

The barrel is emblazoned with that Combo RDTA coat of arms in white, which looks very stylish, if you ask me.

Now I pull off the barrel, also with the perfect amount of give, thanks to accurate machining and two big, black, top quality o-rings which cut through the bright gold, closing off that central fill ring to make you feel like you’ve won the lottery.

In between those two o-rings on one side you’ll see an ample juice fill slot, which, when the ring is fitted in place, sits on the one side in between where your wicking should hang, at least with this deck, which should help minimize mess.

There’s a little juice symbol on the always-visible band of the refill ring so that you always know where your port is.

This refilling ring unscrews with ease (great rings again), after which you can also easily remove the pyrex. Removing this ring will make wicking a breeze when it comes down to building.

The IMC 10 deck is pre-installed and is easy to remove with a loosening or unscrewing of the 510 pin, after which it just twists out so that you can fit any of the other build decks or one of the pre-made coils. The deck is shiny as hell in 24K gold plate.

You can swap out with any of the original 6 IMC decks or the 4 new ones, not to mention the two pre made coils, in 0.15 and 0.3 Ohm. Plus, you can fit an optional RDA base… it’s versatile.ijoy combo rdta 2 decks

All these IMC decks utilize a very intelligent wicking system, whereby there’s no need to wangle wicking through holes drilled in your deck.

The wicking ports are essentially cutouts on the sides of your deck and it’s your refilling ring that seals them off, if you catch my drift. It’s a pleasure when it comes time to combing out your wicks and laying them down. It’s clever and easy to use and I wish that all RDTAs had it.

The IMC 10 deck features what’s been termed the snag clamp system. I don’t really get the name but I suppose it’s catchy. The deck is basically identical to the popular Druga RDA deck from Augvape and features dual posts with open, single slots on each which are sealed off by fully removable thumb screws.

The upside of this is the fact that you hardly need to use your tools, it’s a pleasure for beginners and the massive slots accommodate some pretty heavy duty and exotic coils.

Those who loved the Druga will love this and those who didn’t at least have the option of swapping out for any of 10 other IMC build decks.

The build and design quality looks superb, I can’t wait to get a build on this thing and there is a good looking couple of fused Claptons in the pack, I’m looking forward to discovering their resistance, as that’s a detail that doesn’t figure on the packaging.

I guess it depends on how you build, hehe.

Accessories

I’m very happy with the provision of both a flat head and Phillips screw driver, as well as an extra 510 pin and that single coil plug which is easy to fit onto your deck for a nice big-ass single birds nest if you like.

I would have liked to see the inclusion of another deck option here, plus…most certainly an RDA base. It would have been generous but all round, this is such a great RDTA, I’m not even bothered about accessories.

Oh, also…the cotton could have been better, if you like to pull off your flatties… the cotton will prove to little unless you combine strips but hello, nitpicking alert. I mean, really.

How Does The iJoy Combo 2 RDTA Perform?

Let me just say that I’ve never been good friends with RDTAs, not because I don’t like building but because I cannot abide leaking, my brain completely short circuits when I have a leaky device and in a house full of cats and dogs, I don’t like a tank that’s likely to leak when you turn it on it’s side.iJoy Combo RDTA 2 on mod

Praise the Lord, this is one of the cleanest RDTAs around, I have left it full to the brim and lying on its side for hours, upside down, you name it…not one leak.

In my opinion, the design is flawless and the Combo 2 RDTA can safely join the ranks of the iJoy Limitless Plus as a hassle free, leak free pleasure to fill and refill and vape to your satisfaction.

Of course, you’ll need to give it a nice full wick that’s neither too long or too short to achieve this as, chances are, there’s a shabby wicker out there who’ll manage to get it to leak, no offense meant…vaping is a learning process.

The airflow on this RDTA is out of this world, if you want the perfect, warm and restricted lung hit go for half airflow and to get totally hit in the face with airflow, open those cyclops eyes up full, wow.

RDTAs are almost always flavor hitters but with this airflow, it’s next level. I don’t use a huge amount flavor concentrate in my very high VG, DIY e-liquid mixes but when I get the true complexity of my flavors coming through, like I do here, then I know I’ve struck gold.

This device, with the included IMC 3 coils or the IMC 10 and included fused captions, is an outstanding vape with flavor and cloud through the roof and airflow to die for…not to mention sheer ease of build, top notch give on all the o-rings and absolutely no leaking.

Hands down, this is one of my favorite tanks in a very long time and definitely my favorite RDTA.

How To Fill The iJoy Combo RDTA 2

Simply pull off that central barrel just above the gold refilling band and stick your nozzle or dropper into the slot above the Drip symbol while the tank is on its side.
Fill to capacity because this tank doesn’t leak.

How To Change the Coil-head/Build Deck

  • Remove the barrel where the logo is to reveal the build deck.
  • Unscrew the gold refill ring.
  • Remove the Pyrex.
  • Loosen the 510 pin at the base with a flat head screwdriver (that’s counter-clockwise.)
  • Now you’ll see the deck or coil head just twists out of the central shaft.
  • Fit your desired head or deck.
  • Replace the 510 pin, screwing in properly.
  • Replace all parts.

Stock Coil Performance

The IMC Coil 3 is a triple horizontal coil head with heavy wicking. It has a 0.15 Ohm resistance and offers a powerful vape in the 60-100W range. I found the sweet spot to be right at 85W and neither the flavor nor the airflow can compare to the self build system, it’s still one hell of a coil head though.

I find the wicking a bit raw, so you might benefit from a slight comb out which will aid your absorption a bit.

Also, if you have a really itty bitty screw driver you can undo the base of that pre-made coil head and swap that wicking out altogether, which should go a long way to improving your flavor, especially if you have a cotton brand that you’re partial to.

The pre-made coil is all round a great vape for when I run out of coils to use on the huge selection of build decks but hey, that might never happen. Still, the pre-built coils on this RDTA vape better than a good number of popular sub-ohm tank coil heads.

The IMC 10 deck with the included fused captions, which read at 0.17 initially and later settled at 0.2 Ohms, is a vaping dream. I found my special spot for these between 90 and 110 W on a half open airflow for a warm, restricted lung hit. Yum. Massive cloud, killer flavor. Thank you very much.

Ease of build

Before I harp on about the IMC 10 deck, this RDTA itself, with any IMC deck, makes building easy, the wicking port design is perfect and super easy to wick. Also the 25 mm diameter is ample and spacious.

As for IMC 10 and the clamp snag business…some don’t like it because the little metal bits astride the terminal slots have a tendency (at least they did on Augvape’s Druga) to get wonky, bend or snap off all together over time, if you’re rough with them or if you try to squeeze in to much coil action.

I never experienced this myself and for me, I only have praise for this deck as I think it’s a great design for beginners to the RDTA and building world, hassle free as it is with massive slots and huge thumb screws.

What I Liked

I LOVE the aesthetics with the gold detail. I LOVE the versatility and massive selection of optional decks, sold separately, as well as prebuilt coil heads and the RBA base, which should have been included.

I like the ease of build on IMC 10 and the wicking port design. I like how easy it is to swap out decks and the perfect tension on all the o-rings. I LOVE the airflow, open and smooth as can be. I LOVE the lack of spit back and leaking. I just thoroughly enjoy using the iJoy Combo RDTA 2!

What I Dislike

I’d have liked to see another deck in the pack and an RBA base. The ULTEM drip tip sits very, very tight. Is it really necessary to find fault? Nah! I’m thoroughly impressed by the Combo 2 RDTA.

Final Review Verdict

What a top notch RDTA for beginners and serious vapers alike.

A near endless variety of deck styles and options with ample space and ease of use on the included deck. The airflow and flavor is a smooth knockout and the perfect tension on all the o-rings make dismantling, cleaning, building, filling all so easy.

I’m delighted with how mess free this RDTA is and with the fact that I’ve not spilled a drop of juice. The size, fit and looks are also an absolute killer. I highly recommend it, wishing I could add more stars to the 5.

Would I buy the iJoy Combo RDTA 2 if I lost it? I think I’ll be buying a rainbow one too, maybe even a red one…before I have chance to lose it.

Pros

  • Selection of decks and coil heads means versatility through the roof
  • Airflow smooth and through the roof, easy to adjust
  • Exceptional design, wicking and filling system is leak-proof
  • Very, very good looking RDTA
  • Easy to dismantle, with quality seals and o-rings

Cons

    Nope.
Except maybe an RBA base and extra deck in the pack.

  1. Great review, easy to read and also a pleasure. I have the original rdta’s and the combo. the combo II is on its way. I like them all and my favorites by far. Use them daily and with the large capacity easy filling i enjoy them when a day out. Also changing a wick is easy, no emptying the tank and esay to dry burn it. Every time you fill it up you can see the wicks are still good or not.
All my atty’s are rdta’s like the avocado 24 and never leaked. Bought the the great Ammit from geekvape and its leaking like hell.
    Indeed these are great rdta’s.

  2. After reading your review I just had to get this tank and I’m so pleased I did! It’s everything you said it would be. Thank you for your excellent and honest review.

    • Awesome, Clint! I’m thrilled that you enjoyed the review and even more thrilled that you feel the same about your Combo2. The best part is, there’s so much you can do with it, it’ll be keeping you company for a long while yet!

  3. Poli! I’m thrilled to hear you loved the review and the Combo 2! I’ve hardly been able to put mine down, every time I pick up another tank for a bit of variety I start missing that massive airflow and beautiful flavor. Keep reading our reviews and KEEP VAPING!
