The original MVP2 from Innokin has been a favourite of thousands of vapers for a couple of years and rightly so, it’s a great e cig that top the ‘Best APV’ poll in our E Cig Awards 2 years running.

With the boom in popularity of box mods and the excellent Eleaf iStick 20W Innokin were under the spotlight. Innokin MVP 20W

Vapers waited excitedly to see what innovative new design they would bring out to fight off the competition. Well…. That wait is over with two new MVP’s being released. The MVP 20W is the device we will be checking out today with the MVP 3 to follow shortly on it’s release.

Lets get stuck in. This product was purchased by myself for the purposes of this review.

In the box / Presentation

The MVP 20W comes in a compact perspex case with the following.

  • 1 X MVP 20W (2600 mAh)
  • 1 X EGO Adapter
  • Manual
  • USB Charging Cable

Battery/Body/Build

The look and feel of the MVP 20W is identical to the MVP 2 apart from one difference. Instead of the protruding EGO/510 thread connection they have a recessed spring loaded 510 connection with the EGO adapter separate. So little change there on a classic design that I for one really like. It is a really solid product that feels top quality.

Innokin MVP 20W ThreadingThe main changes come in the form of improved technology in the e cig.

So what improvements have Innokin made to the MVP?

The most obvious change is of course the increase in power output to 20W / 7.5V, changeable in 0.5 and 0.1 increments respectively. What else…. ermmm the branding, new chipset and the charging cable….

Innokin MVP 20W Review

Well that’s it really!

The 3 click on/off, is still there, the screen, puff count/ohm reader/voltage/wattage and round robin button function is the same (one of the only things I didn’t really like about the MVP2).

The yellow/green and red battery power indicator light on the firing button is there as are the safety features; cut off, short circuit/discharge protection and the ability to use the MVP to charge other devices such as mobile phones etc by changing the charging port to ‘output’ mode and using either the micro USB cable supplied or your own mobile phone cable. You can also use this as a pass through device and vape while it is on charge.

I’m sounding extremely brief with this review I know! The thing is it feels a little like deja vu as it is pretty much the MVP 2. That’s not to say it’s a bad device, I still think it’s a great product but just the same with the additional power.

It looks like a reaction from Innokin to release a product as a closer competitor to the Eleaf iStick 20W, which must have stolen a fair few sales from the MVP2.

There are a fair few differences between the two, the main is the size. The Eleaf form is a lot more compact as you can see from the image below.

MVP 20W Vs Mini iStick Vs Istick 20WMVP2 20W Features at a glance

Overall

Still one of the best quality box mods, the 20W increase will surely be a draw for many vapers.

Performance

Using this with the Aspire Nautilus Mini (1.8 Ohm Coil) I was getting great results with a sweet spot for my tastes (and Mountain Oak Mint chocolate 60%VG) around the 4.3V mark. Anything above the 5V mark was firing too hot and giving a burnt taste to my e-liquid.

On the wattage side of things I 12 Watts good with this particular e-liquid.

You may likely vape at different settings, it all comes down to personal taste as well as the type of e-liquid you are using and resistance of the atomiser.

iTaste MVP 20 W Digital Display

I personally prefer using wattage setting on most VV/VW devices purely due to the fact that the wattage setting adjusts automatically no matter the resistance of the atomiser you are using. Check this guide for a more in depth explanation volts and watts.

Unlike the Eleaf iStick 20W the MVP 2.0 allows you to go right upto 20W no matter the resistance of the coil attached. However, getting up around the 20W mark will only be useful if you are vaping with a coil around 1.0-1.2 Ohms.

There is no sub Ohm vaping with this device with a recommended minimum 1.0 ohm coil.

Overall – Performance is great for my needs, on a par with the MVP2, which as it is pretty much the same device not too surprising! Not one for sub ohm vapers.

Overall – Final Thoughts

This is still a fantastic e cig but it isn’t necessarily going to be for everyone.

Anyone who has owned or owns an MVP2 will be familiar with the quality and build, it’s the same. If you’re on the verge of either buying a new MVP2 then you may as well go for the 20W if the price is right, the extra power may well come in handy in the future.

If you are buying solely for the increase in power then that’s fine but it may be worth checking out the MVP 3 that is also recently released. This device will also have other improved features and may possibly fit better to your needs. It is likely to be priced higher though.

At the end of the day if I was looking at this as a brand new product on the market I would be very impressed by it.

Here are the good and not so good that I found:

The Good:

  • Excellent battery life at 2600 mAh.
  • Really solid box mod with top quality build.
  • Now upto 20W power output.
  • Simple to use.
  • 510 & EGO compatible, the latter by way of adapter.

The Not So Good:

  • The way that volts and Watts are selected on the digital screen are not the most user friendly

Final Innokin MVP 20W Review Verdict:

Excellent: Highly Recommended

  1. Overall a great device but if you are looking into getting any of the sub ohm tanks or want to build low ohm builds on an RDA then you may want to pass on this and pick up a MVP 3 or MVP 3 Pro.

  2. It’s so easy to use and my biggest worry was the item going flat! Well that’s not a problem for me, 4 days before the battery life started to fade and that was gradual . A few hours on charge and sorted. I highly recommend this aid, no cravings and tastes great! Smoke anywhere without offending anyone, even puff away while watching tv . Was pricey about £65 inc juice but it does what is says on the tin.
