Capitalizing on the roaring success of the SMOK TFV4 sub ohm tank comes the 22mm width version, the SMOK TFV4 Mini. The SMOK TFV4 has grown into one of the most versatile tanks available, yet it was a little on the large side, the SMOK TFV4 Mini promises to offer the same excellent performance but in a smaller package.SMOK TFV4 Mini Review

The SMOK TFV4 Mini near enough sports the same looks, but has a 22mm width to sit flush with the most popular mods and has a slimmed down 3.5ml capacity, but the same excellent top filling system is present along with the same huge airflow found on it’s bigger brother. As a bonus it is compatible with all available SMOK TFV4 coils!

The SMOK TFV4 is an excellent sub ohm tank and one of my all time favourites, does it’s little brother perform just as well?

TFV4 Build Quality and Looks

Now as you probably would have expected by the name, this is a ‘mini’ version of the best selling SMOK TFV4. The width has been slimmed down from 24.5mm to 22mm and the tank capacity has decreased to 3.5ml. Otherwise, it looks pretty much the same!

It’s a stainless steel and pyrex glass construction, with a swivel top cap for refilling juice and airflow at the base of the drip tip and the tank itself. Weight wise, it’s still a pretty weighty tank but does feel lighter in the hand than the TFV4 did.SMOK TFV4 Mini

Pre installed with the TFV4 Mini is the new TF-CLP2 Clapton Dual Core head, with a resistance of 0.35ohms this coil is designed to be run at 30-90w. You also have the TF-S6 Sextuplet Coil head included in the box as well as the TF-RCA re-buildable Clapton core and these are easy to swap in and out of the tank, however you are unable to do so with a full tank of juice.

You can disassemble the parts of the TFV4 Mini for cleaning.

Refilling the tank is done through the same swivel top cap system, however the fill port for refilling is slightly smaller this time around, and you won’t be able to fit larger bottle nozzles through the port.SMOK TFV4 Mini Top Fill

That being said, the Mini doesn’t seem to suffer from the same issue as the TFV4 did originally whereby the swivel cap could swing open quite easily, when closing the swivel cap off it tends to stay locked in place.

Another change to the design is that the wide bore drip tip now sports a stainless steel outer with a Pyrex inner, which works really well in keeping the drip tip cool when in use. The original drip tip could get quite hot, now with the new drip tip design I haven’t experienced any uncomfortable heat emanating from the drip tip.

The TFV4 Mini is rock solid in terms of build quality overall. The Pyrex Glass tank section has been reinforced and it, much like it’s predecessor, looks and feels like it means business!

How Does The SMOK TFV4 Mini Perform?

As per the full size TFV4, you have airflow located on the drip tip base and on the base of the tank itself. Drip tip airflow can be closed or opened up depending on whether you like a warm or cool vape, however I would highly recommend opening it right up when using this tank at over 80w otherwise the vape as well as the tank get red hot!

As per the original, with the airflow wide open this blows some absolutely insane clouds.

There are three coil heads included with the SMOK TFV4 Mini, lets have a look at how they perform-

TF-CLP2 Dual Clapton Coil Core (0.35Ω)

The flavour from this coil is truly something else, if you are a flavour junkie this is the coil for you! SMOK state that this coil can be used at 30-90w, however at under 40w this coil almost isn’t worth using.

At 40w you get a nice flavourful vape, with some fairly average coils, but nothing to shout home about. At 50w the flavour really starts to pick up as do the clouds. 65w was perfect for me- amazing, rich and warm flavour with some really decent clouds. At 70-90w the vape was too warm for me but the clouds were massive!

TF-S6 Sextuplet Coil Core (0.4Ω)

This coil is designed to be used at 30-100w, the TF S6 sports a hex coil configuration adding up to a monstrous 6 coils! The flavour from the Sextuplet coil is excellent, and the cloud production is massive.

You need to put a minimum of 50w through this to really benefit from it, optimum flavour and cloud production is found when you start going north of 70w with this coil head.

TF-RCA Rebuildable Clapton Coil Core

There are two pre built 0.5ohm Clapton Coils included with the spares package and it’s easy enough to install these. You simply unscrew the screws and trap down the coil legs underneath the screw heads, then wick with your preferred material, taking care to ensure the wick reaches the juice flow holes but doesn’t completely cover them up.

Flavour is good with the included pre built clapton coils and the cloud production is pretty decent, but I don’t think it’s on the same level as the excellent TF-CLP2 Dual Clapton Core. You don’t need to exclusively use clapton coils with this RBA deck, you can use different builds with this deck too.

With all the coils juice consumption was a bit of a problem, given the size of the massive juice channels and the power this tank runs at, I was refilling my tank on a regular basis so just be wary that this is one thirsty tank!

Final SMOK TFV4 Mini Review Verdict

If you already own the SMOK TFV4 and are happy with it, there is probably no point getting the TFV4 Mini as it performs in exactly the same way, however the smaller size of the TFV4 Mini is going to tempt users over who were originally put off by the size. This is truly an outstanding performer.

This tank can provide flavour with the best of them, and there are not many tanks that can put out the same amount of vapour as the TFV4 Mini tank can. It’s definitely a flavour and cloud chasers tank that is for sure!

The SMOK TFV4 tank was almost the perfect sub ohm tank, only its large size putting some users off, the smaller SMOK TFV4 Mini for me is the ultimate sub ohm tank. The huge wealth of coils available makes the appeal of this tank huge, and the ability to swap different styles of coil head in and out of the tank mean you can get real different experiences.

The Good

  • The top performing sub ohm tank around
  • Huge wealth of different TFV4 coil options – we have reviewed these separately!
  • Swivel top cap now seems to stay shut
  • Smaller size means it looks great on 22mm width mods
  • Can run this at massive power
  • Huge airflow
  • Great looks
  • RBA deck included within the package
  • Loads of spares included
  • Clapton and Sextuplet coil heads offer amazing flavour

The Not So Good

  • Still gets hot at high power, the tank itself can get very hot indeed
  • Drinks juice like no tomorrow!
  • Occasional leakage through airflow holes when filling
  • Silicone fill hole is a little on the small size and wider bottle nozzles won’t fit
  • Can’t change coils with juice in the tank

Vaping full time since 2012, started on cigalikes for a while then curiosity got the better of me and I moved onto an vape pens, a month or two later I was seeing people walking around with these interesting shiny tubes and I thought 'I gotta get one of those'. Before I knew it a trip down to my local B&M got me my first VW mod, an Innokin SVD, paired with an iClear 30, and I was hooked. Soon after that I was jumping to VW mods both box and tube shaped, before I then made the jump to rebuilding and thus sub ohming, with my first RDA and mech mod. These days I've come back to convenience and mainly use pods, disposables and the VOOPOO Drag H40. Most importantly I am still loving vaping!

smok-tfv4-mini-reviewThe SMOK TFV4 Mini, like it's big brother performs a treat. The numerous coil options will keep advanced vapers busy for months. Just be aware this tank DRINKS e-liquid like it's going out of fashion.
