The Aspire Atlantis Mega is the bigger brother to the Atlantis V2, the recent upgrade released by Aspire to great acclaim.

Boasting the improved Atlantis V2 coils, improved airflow and new adjustable airflow on the drip tip, the Atlantis V2 has proved to be a very popular tank, and received great reviews, such as our review here.

The Atlantis V2 is a fantastic tank, a massive improvement on the original, so I was really looking forward to seeing what its bigger brother could do!

Aspire Atlantis Mega Review

What’s In The Aspire Atlantis Mega Kit?

Like the Atlantis V2, the Atlantis Mega comes in an almost identical Perspex box containing the following-

  • 1x Atlantis Mega Tank with 1ohm coil installed
  • 1x replacement 0.3ohm coil

I was a bit disappointed that no replacement pyrex glass tank section was included, it’s not a deal breaker however, but handle the Atlantis Mega carefully! It is a shame Aspire does not include this as so many of their competitors include spare tank sections. No instruction manual is included, with a sub ohm tank this really needs to be sorted out Aspire!

Atlantis Mega Key Features

  • Stainless Steel Drip Tip with new airflow control
  • Reinforced Pyrex Glass Tank section
  • Takes 0.3, 0.5, 1 ohm and 0.15 ohm Ni200 Temperature Control Coils
  • Improved airflow control
  • 5ml capacity
  • Height 66mm
  • Width 30mm

Atlantis Mega Setup

Now, as mentioned in our Aspire Atlantis V2 review there is no instruction manual included with the Atlantis Mega, which really should be given that this is an advanced sub ohm tank, some new users may well struggle at first with this. Like the Atlantis V2, there is just a piece of card instructing the user to let the tank stand for 2 minutes after filling. Not good form Aspire.

The Atlantis Mega is good to go right out of the box, the 1 ohm coil is pre-installed, so you just need to fill up your tank by unscrewing the tank section carefully from the base, putting everything back together, selecting your desired wattage and off you go!

Now the pre-installed 1 ohm coil performs a lot differently to a lot of other coils at the same resistance, see below for how to get the best use out of it. I would recommend breaking the coil in at around 35W and then using it at around 45W, for reasons I will go into further below.

As with any sub ohm device please take a minute to read up on our beginners guide to sub ohm vaping, and you have the correct batteries and device that are capable of safely handling the Atlantis Mega coils.

Looks – This Atlantis Is Definitely Mega In Size

I have to honestly say the Atlantis Mega isn’t a looker at all for me. I do think this vape tank is pretty ugly.

Personally I do think Aspire have made a bit of a mistake making the width of the tank 30mm rather than making the width 22mm and elongating the length of the tank to accommodate more e juice. It is short, squat and fat, which is going to put people off.

Atlantis Mega and V2 size comparison

The airflow slots on the Atlantis V2 have been replaced by holes here, but otherwise it looks the same as the Atlantis V2 but very bloated!Aspire Atlantis V2 vs Mega

The Atlantis V2 looks far better in my opinion.

How Does The Aspire Atlantis Mega Perform?

The airflow slits that were present on the Atlantis V2 have been replaced by drilled airflow holes, the AFC ring is still as smooth as butter but I feel that you can fine tune your vape better now with the airflow holes, however at the smaller settings there seems to be a really annoying whistling present. With the airflow wide open, you are in cloud chasers heaven.Atlantis Sub Ohm Tank

Performance wise, this matches the Atlantis V2 exactly, brilliant flavour and clouds in one from this tank. The Aspire Atlantis Mega is compatible with the new 0.3, 0.5, 1 ohm and Vaporshark 0.15ohm Ni200 temperature controlled coils, as well as the old style Atlantis V1 coils if you still have any of those floating about.

Now, for the coil performance in more detail…

0.3OHM Coil

The 0.3ohm coil is the one the cloud chasers are going to dive into straight away. Capable of handling up to 80W with ease, and with improved juice flow holes for easier wicking of higher VG juice, these coils are really aimed at the cloud chaser.

Starting off at 50W almost isn’t even worth it, the e juice flavour and vapour production are very restricted. Cranking it up to 60W you start to get some strong flavour and decent cloud production, but it still feels like something is missing. At 70-75W, this seems perfect.

The flavour is excellent and you will be blowing some huge clouds! At 80W things get a little warm even with the drip tip airflow open, the flavour drops off a little but the clouds are absolutely massive.

If you are kicking back and wanting to blow some huge clouds then this is what you want to have your wattage set to. You can still take these beyond 80W, but I found the flavour began to drop off beyond that. It is worth mentioning that the 0.3,0.5 and 1ohm coils are now wicked with 100% organic Japanese cotton . Flavour is hugely increased over the old V1 coils, and the clouds are massive thanks to the coils being in a dual parallel vertical set up.

I found the best results for flavour were found at 72.5W (to be precise!), with the airflow on the drip tip closed off as I like a warm vape, but you may find your sweet spot to be completely different. I would recommend playing around with the airflow and power settings to find your own sweet spot with these coils.

Aspire Atlantis Mega Coil Head

1 OHM Coil

The 1 ohm coil is the one that comes pre-installed with the Atlantis Mega tank. At first, I set the wattage on my mod to 15W to break the coil in and I was really disappointed by weak flavour and cloud production. Obviously, I needed to put a lot more power through it!

I increased the power to 25W and closed off a bit of the airflow, the flavour improved slightly but was still very muted, and vapour was negligible. I thought that these cannot really be that bad, so I had a quick search on the internet and the general consensus was that the 1 ohm coils needed to be used in the range of 40-50W. 40-50W, for a 1 ohm coil?!

I was shocked. I tentatively dialed the wattage up to 40W, took my first hit, and this was great.

Flavour had improved massively and I was blowing some great clouds. I took it right up to 55W before the vape started tasting a little burnt. I have settled at 45W with the 1ohm coil which for me provides the right mix of flavour and vapour that I am chasing. The 1ohm coil for me is preferable to the 0.3 ohm coil as I find the flavour much better.

A lot of people are going to disregard the 1 ohm coil and dive straight into the much vaunted 0.3 ohm coil, which is a shame as they would really be missing out on a great coil that has great flavour and cloud results.

Final Thoughts

The Atlantis Mega performs excellently well, both the 0.3ohm and 1ohm coils provide flavour and clouds in droves, the 5ml capacity means you have to refill less than the V2, you can really fine tune your vape with both the improved airflow control and the drip tip airflow control and like the Atlantis V2 this is a huge jump over the original Atlantis.

It’s a cloud chasers dream, this along with its little brother provide big clouds in line with the best sub ohm tanks available, and by adjusting the airflow on the drip tip you can enjoy a cool vape at high power, for those who do not like the warm vape provided at 60 watts and over.

But, could I recommend this over the Atlantis V2? To be honest, based on the 30mm width and the looks for me, I don’t think the Atlantis Mega warrants the extra money over the Atlantis V2. Yes the tank capacity has been increased but I would have preferred a longer rather than wider tank.

You can fine tune your vape with the airflow control better than on the Atlantis V2, but when you compare both with the airflow wide open they do have the same cloud and flavour production.

It does boast the same excellent cloud and flavour performance as the Atlantis V2 but there isn’t enough here to make it stand out from the V2 unfortunately, and the size of the thing really does let it down, which is unfortunate for such a great performing tank.

The Good

  • Same outstanding flavour and performance as the Atlantis V2
  • 5ml capacity
  • Can really fine tune your vape with the airflow control, which offers more options than the Atlantis V2 in my opinion.
  • Cooler vape at higher power with the drip tip airflow control

The Not So Good

  • 30mm width is going to put a lot of potential buyers off
  • Coils can get stuck in the chimney
  • No replacement glass
  • Not the best looking tank!
  • Still no RBA deck!

Vaping full time since 2012, started on cigalikes for a while then curiosity got the better of me and I moved onto an vape pens, a month or two later I was seeing people walking around with these interesting shiny tubes and I thought 'I gotta get one of those'. Before I knew it a trip down to my local B&M got me my first VW mod, an Innokin SVD, paired with an iClear 30, and I was hooked. Soon after that I was jumping to VW mods both box and tube shaped, before I then made the jump to rebuilding and thus sub ohming, with my first RDA and mech mod. These days I've come back to convenience and mainly use pods, disposables and the VOOPOO Drag H40. Most importantly I am still loving vaping!

aspire-atlantis-mega-reviewThe Atlantis Mega still has the great performance you would come to expect from Aspire but the size of this thing, for me, would result in this not being a 'go to' tank. The Aspire Atlantis 2 is more than enough and cheaper. But... For those that are looking for a bigger tank it may be worth a closer look.
