Turbo Vape Pod Mod Review – Nic Salt Pod Mod!

The Turbo Vape Pod Mod is a Nicotine Salt pod mod created by Turbo Vape who were founded in 2003.

The packaging is very plain and I have little clue about the device or pods!

So this is a Pod Mod vape which is the name given to low power devices designed for usually Mouth To Lung (MTL) vapers. For details of vaping styles – MTL and DTL read our guide!

Pod mods have a low power output so can afford to have a small capacity battery hence their small stealthy profile.

This is a “closed pod” system – which basically means – you cannot refill the pod or change the coil head – you simply swap the pod for a new one.

In general I am not a fan of closed pod systems, so much waste, more expensive to buy pods than it is to just buy your own e-liquid and also you have a restriction on what flavours and strengths of pod are available.

So far according to Turbo Vape website there are 7 flavours of pod available:

• Menthol
• Tobacco
• Pineapple
• Strawberry
• Flue cured tobacco
• Apple
• Watermelon

The strength of the nicotine in the pod varies between 7-16mg – the strength is printed on the pod. However it says on the Turbo Vape website these are Nicotine Salt e-liquid pods – which gives a far stronger hit than standard nicotine e-liquid. Read my guide to Nicotine Salts for more info.

I received the Strawberry, Tobacco and the Flue Cured Tobacco pods to review.

The pods have a 2ml capacity and a ceramic coil.

So how will this little fella vape – let’s get on and try it!

Build Quality & Design

This is small, thin and very cute!

A flat style design, the centre of each side has a rubberised easy to grip coating.

The pods come with a plug in the mouthpiece end so make sure to remove that.

If you tip the mod upside down you can see the liquid level if you hold the pod up to the light.

No buttons or adjustments or screens, simply inhale and it will fire into action!

There is an indicator light which lights up when you inhale.

No rattles or wobbles and the pod sits in the battery securely without being a nightmare to remove.

A tiny little device which is super easy to hide inside your hand and very pocket friendly.

Instructions are very basic, mainly in Chinese with short English translations below.

How Does the Turbo Vape Pod Mod Perform?

Basic operation

• This is an auto fire device – no buttons or adjustments – simply inhale on the mouthpiece!

How To Charge The Battery

• Plug the included USB cable into the mod.
• Plug the other end into a USB outlet.
• The light will illuminate whilst charging – it will flash and extinguish when fully charged.

How To Change The Pod

When the closed pods run out of liquid or the coil fails you cannot fill or change the coil. It is time for a new pod.

This is super simple.

• Pull out the pod – this has a magnetic type connection once the magnet has released this pulls out really easily.
• Prepare the new pod – remove the top mouthpiece plug, the coloured shield and the rubber round sticker from the base.
• Slide the new pod into the battery – no wrong way around it can go in both ways.

Flavour & Cloud Production

This uses closed pods – so you can only use the flavours/strengths from the manufacturer.

Sadly the pods do not say the coil resistance or VG/PG proportions – so I can only judge on how it vapes!

Plus remember these are Nicotine Salt pods – so too much chain vaping might give you the vaping voms!

This is quite a warm vape too I can feel the heat on my tongue when inhaling a large inhale! That surprised me a bit!

Flue Cured Tobacco 7mg Flavour Pod

This is a very musty tasting tobacco flavour. Almost a chocolatey tinge to it too. There is a slight menthol hit from somewhere – not a minty taste but a cold hit on my tongue!

The throat hit is good and the vapour is as expected from a small low power MTL device.

Not the worst tobacco I have ever tasted – but not the best either.

Tobacco 16mg Flavour Pod

This flavour is much better than the Flue Cured Tobacco above.

This is a lot less “musty”.

Not bad at all for a tobacco e-liquid flavour – which is something I generally dislike.

Even though this has a higher nicotine strength this is not at all harsh on the throat.

I just have to go a bit steady as the nic salts is powerful stuff!

Strawberry 7mg Flavour Pod

The Strawberry pod has the red protective cap – in case you can’t read the writing on it very well – the print on mine was quite blurry.

I usually vape fruity/sweet e-liquid so this was more to my taste than the tobacco pods.

This isn’t a strong strawberry flavour but definitely fruity and that menthol tinge is back again.

Even with it being nic salts it is not harsh on the throat at all.

However the more I vape with this pod it does get slightly worse! There is still that musty back taste – I thought initially it was because I had just used the Tobacco pod – but several days later I can still taste it.

It is ok but not great. I need to do a review of the battery life but I am struggling to vape on this regularly enough!

Battery Life

I do put myself through it for you! The taste of these pods and the nic salts can make me a bit nauseous from repeated vaping – so I have tried my very best to give you a guide for the battery life.

At regular vaping – sort of a vape every couple of mins – I got 3.5 hours from this before the battery died. I couldn’t vape this solidly – I had to do a few “bouts” of vaping and add the total time together!

I didn’t notice any battery level indication – which is a bit annoying too. The LED lights up when you vape and when charging. The LED just flashes when it conks out.

Pros

• Very small and cute
• So simple to use
• Easy to install pod
• Worked perfectly and well built
• Great throat hit without being harsh
• Strong flavour

Cons

• Instructions very very basic
• Nothing on the pods to indicate resistance or PG/VG ratios?
• Device and pods are quite expensive
• Flavours could be better – not the nicest!
• No battery capacity indicator – the LED only flashes when the battery dies

Final Review Verdict

The Turbo Vape is a well made little pod, size is perfect and the ease of use is 10/10!

The throat hit and taste were much better than I was expecting this feels like it is quite powerful for a tiny MTL device. The ceramic coils might be aiding the taste at such low power and the nic salts are giving the throat hit.

Vapour was as expected – not incredible but not poor either.

I think some work is needed to explain to users more of the details of the device – the pods and their contents in particular – for instance if you have a PG allergy – I have zero clue what the PG percentage is. I haven’t a clue of the coil resistance either.

As for the “Replace if lost or damaged” rating, I have rated this low – simply due to the expense. The pods are expensive. You will have to replace the pod as soon as it is empty, no refilling. Vape 2ml of e-liquid and the pod is sent to the bin. So the pods need to be cheaper for me to keep using this. Which is a shame as it is a great vape.
