Uwell Crown – One Of the Best Sub Ohm Tanks For Flavour?

This review will take a look at the Uwell Crown, the first release from Chinese manufacturers Uwell, and it’s already made a really big impression already due to reports of how well it performs, and up until recently stock was very hard to come by.

The unique Stainless Steel coil heads may be a big reason for this, as these reportedly offer amazing flavour results and can withstand high wattage use.uwell crown review

An RBA deck as well as Ni200 coils are also available with the Uwell Crown, and Uwell really look to be capturing the market with the wealth of options available. Top and bottom filling is present, as well as huge airflow and a 4ml capacity, you know this means business! They also haven’t compromised on the construction, with food grade stainless steel used as well as quartz glass for the tank section.

On paper, that’s a really impressive looking tank, so lets have a look at how well it performs…

In The Box

Uwell have gone all out here, with one of the most comprehensive packages around for a clearomiser. Inside the package you will get-

  • 1x Uwell Crown tank
  • 1x 0.5ohm stainless steel coil, rated for 30-80w and pre-installed
  • 1x 0.25ohm stainless steel coil, rated for 20-120w
  • 1x 0.15ohm Ni200 temperature control coil
  • 1x replacement tank section
  • 1x replacement o-rings
  • 1x instruction manual

An RBA deck is available separately for the Uwell Crown, which at the time of writing my review I did not have my hands on, and 1.2ohm stainless steel coil heads are also available if you prefer to mouth to lung vape. What you get with the retail package is a really comprehensive and impressive kit, Uwell have really covered all the bases here.uwell crown packaging

Build Quality & Looks

The Uwell Crown is constructed of food grade stainless steel with a quartz glass tank section, and it feels very solidly constructed, I’ve dropped it a couple of times and it’s survived the fall! It’s 510 threaded too, which means it is compatible with all the popular mods.

Uwell have included a wide bore drip tip, as this tank is designed to throw some big clouds, and the wide bore drip tip comes in handy for this! You can of course swap the drip tip out for one of your own.uwell crown sub ohm tank

An impressive feature of the Uwell Crown is that the tank completely comes apart for cleaning. You can take the whole tank apart and give it a thorough clean, which keeps your flavour fresh! Also, if you manage to break the glass tank section, you can swap a new one in quickly.

You have a replacement included in the box so if this does happen, you have an immediate backup at least without needing to pay out for a new section. It’s also top and bottom filled, the top cap unscrews allowing you to fill from the top, which is my preferred method, you can also unscrew the tank from the base and fill from the bottom. Another bonus of this is that you can also swap coils in and out without losing a tankful of juice!

Airflow

The Uwell Crown is designed for high power usage and the airflow present is huge in order to allow the tank to perform at high power. It’s fully adjustable, and the airflow control is a dream to use, with buttery smooth threading.

It’s among the airiest tanks around, and this tank is for the serious cloud chaser, however you can mouth to lung hit with the airflow closed down and the 1.2ohm coil (available separately). Wide open, you are going to be blowing dripper level clouds, that compete with just about anything that has been released to date!

How Does The Uwell Crown Perform?

There’s a multitude of different coil options available for the Uwell Crown, inside the package you will have a pre-installed 0.5ohm coil, a spare 0.25ohm coil and a 0.15ohm coil for use with temperature controlled devices.

There’s also a 1.2ohm coil available for mouth to lung vapers, and an RBA coil head available separately should you wish to build your own coils.

With the exception of the 0.15ohm Ni200 coil, the coil heads for the Crown are made from food grade stainless steel, in order to provide better flavour and cloud production than traditional Kanthal coil heads can offer.uwell crown parts

Lifespan is also supposed to be far better with Stainless Steel over kanthal- I can definitely vouch for this as a month into using the Crown the only coil that has given up on me is the Ni200 coil! The 0.5ohm and 0.25ohm coils are still going very well.

The 0.5ohm coil is the one that is pre-installed with the Uwell Crown and the first one you are likely to use. It is rated for use between 30-80w, however I personally believe that you need to be using this tank at upwards of 60w to get the best out of it. At 60-75w, the flavour is better than any clearomiser I have experienced, and the clouds are outrageous.

It’s also really clean tasting too, providing a flavourful vape like no other. At 80w the tank gets really hot, and there’s no noticeable improvement in flavour or clouds, so my recommendation is to use it in the 60-75w range.

The 0.25ohm coil performs in much the same way as the 0.5ohm coil in the same power ranges, however taking this above 80w provides you with better flavour and bigger clouds. At 100w it’s pretty much insane, you will be fogging a room out in no time at all, however be warned that it will get hot! I haven’t come across much that can match the Uwell Crown at this sort of power.

One of the only disappointments I have had with the Crown is when using the Ni200 coils in temperature control. The cloud production is still very good, however the flavour is muted compared to the stainless steel coils no matter what power I am putting through it. I haven’t been impressed with the flavour at all when using these coils, and much prefer the stainless steel coils over the Ni200 coils.

Cloud production from this tank in general is absolutely incredible, from all three of the coils that I have tried, it really puts a lot of other atomisers to shame! Thick and huge clouds are produced by this tank so if clouds are your thing, the Crown won’t let you down.

Final Uwell Crown Review Verdict

What a truly outstanding, all rounder the Uwell Crown is. Putting the disappointing experience from the Ni200 coils to one side, the Uwell Crown is a tank that has it all, and one both mouth to lung and lung hitters will be delighted with.

The performance is arguably the best around from any clearomiser available, both on the flavour and cloud front, coil lifespan is exceptional and the price is superb as well as the build quality. Re-builders won’t be disappointed, as an RBA deck (available separately) allows you to build your own coils for use with the tank.

You won’t be disappointed with the Uwell Crown, if you purchase one of these you are buying one of the absolute best tanks there has ever been!

Vaping full time since 2012, started on cigalikes for a while then curiosity got the better of me and I moved onto an vape pens, a month or two later I was seeing people walking around with these interesting shiny tubes and I thought 'I gotta get one of those'. Before I knew it a trip down to my local B&M got me my first VW mod, an Innokin SVD, paired with an iClear 30, and I was hooked. Soon after that I was jumping to VW mods both box and tube shaped, before I then made the jump to rebuilding and thus sub ohming, with my first RDA and mech mod. These days I've come back to convenience and mainly use pods, disposables and the VOOPOO Drag H40. Most importantly I am still loving vaping!

uwell-crown-reviewThe performance in terms of flavour from the Uwell Crown tank is up there with the best. The only let down was using the NI200 coils but this of course is only for those using temp control mods.

  1. Hello
Im not sure if this will get answered but what is the best mix to use in this tank. I normally use 20/80 PG/VG but a lot of tanks burn the coils with that. I would change my mix to 30/70 PG/VG if needed. This is a great review thank you.

  2. Other tanks come and go but my UWELL Crown Tank is the best of the best. I am never disappointed in this tank. The RBA coil is very decent. My personal favorite coil is the .5 stainless steel coil used in TC mode.

  3. Although it has been out for a while now, it is still my favorite performer. They set the bar high right out of the gate.

  4. I just got my Uwell Crown a couple of days ago the only coil I’ve tried so far is the .25 stainless steel but the taste is immaculate. I love it even more than my TVF4. It doesn’t have as many coil options but as far as the SS coils go it doesn’t need to. Its not near as heavy either. Its actually rather simplistic and at the same very well crafted. I think it’s my new premier tank.
