The Wismec Sinuous Ravage230 comes from a household name in the vaping community, their Reuleaux rage has long been a favourite among vapers and every new release is eagerly awaited. One never has to wait very long either, since these guys seem determined to release more gear than any other brand.

ravage 230 mainHaving released an epic list of mods under the RX title, it seems Sinuous is the next big series with which Wismec is making waves: smaller but equally high powered devices, the name actually makes sense! These are the ninjas while the RXs are more on the Sumo side barring the Wismec RX Mini.

Following the likes of the Sinuous V80 and Sinuous V200, I dare say that this latest release, the Sinuous Ravage230 is the sexiest of the bunch, with a spectacular 1.45” colour display and two tone design, along with that sweet little Gnome Evo tank.

Build Quality & Design

Ravage Mod

Well, I’m not 100% certain of this but the body of this very compact little dual 18650 mod seems to be zinc alloy for the black features and anodised aluminium for the coloured parts…I’m judging purely by feel and actually, i think I’m right.

ravage 230 open boxIt’s very pretty, even before you get to that insanely cool colour display: and it seems for all intents to be pretty much scratch resistant.

The design consists of black at the base and top which extends through the corners and into the vertical planes.

The narrow left place, when you’re facing the screen, is home to a massive and clicky fire bar…like the Smok Alien 220 only zinc alloy and with a much better feel (partly because I know all the paint won’t be scratching off within a week, Alien 220W owners will know what I mean).ravage 230 fire bar

Mines red, there’s also blue, black and grey, all with black sections as contrast. On the large vertical side without the screen, theres a Ravage230 branded into the black inset at the top.

At the bottom of the same side you’ll see a thin black tab of sorts, which, if you slide it out, opens the hinged battery door, complete with 6 small ventilation holes: 3 either side.

On top is a deep spring loaded 510 connection, set in an unadorned field of zinc alloy , I quite like the omission of a dedicated metallic seating, for aesthetics and convenience…up to a 28mm tank will look great on this device and won’t feel awkward at all. ravage 230 510 connection

Above the black fire bar, there’s a tiny black FUNCTION button…this is an extra button, whether it makes things easier or not, we’ll get to that later, hmm.

The screen colours are impactful as can be since there isn’t an extended black screen panel around it because when it lights up (to make it look bigger).

Below the screen are a pair of conjoined adjustment buttons, also pretty clickedy.

The fire button is spectacular but, pedantic about juice spills on circuitry, I gave it the good ‘ol breathing test to gauge the situation.

I had two reasons for this, one being my experience with Wismec’s Exoskeleton and the other being the state of my old Alien 220W’s circuitry when I opened it up the other day (I’m guessing that the gaps around the fire bar were to blame for the extensive corrosion)…I wanted to know whether this would be likely to happen here, amongst other things.

Well, if I can breath freely with my mouth plastered over the thing…sucking air from inside the mod, or through it, who knows..?

So…that shouldn’t be a problem if there’s a decent seal between the other side of the fire button and the board but, opening the battery door, I was seriously disappointed.

Wismec has provided, by means of insulation, two joined tubes of insulating film, so shabbily glued that they fell onto the floor the first time I opened the chamber.

ravage 230 insulationWarning: rant alert…

Peering in, I peered from the inside of the fire bar, across the chamber to the completely exposed board…there’s no fixed casing around the batteries.

Most brands, and Wismec in some cases too, would stick installation to the inside of  an extra barrier of permanent chamber walls. I’ve an issue with this, it’s a cost cutter that may compromise your safety and the lifespan of your board.

I stick my finger in to have a feel of the inside of the fire bar…at first I think its not as bad as I thought, it feels sealed but then I push my finger up to the top of the fire bar and breath a few moist breaths into it from outside…low and behold, when I remove my finger its still warm and moist from my breath. C’mon!

I’ve poured juice all over it to check but I can’t wait indefinitely for a negative result and who knows…maybe these accidents only occur when you spill instead of pour.

Of course, this is all excusable to someone who’s not seen the devastation of a board from corrosion or worse…let’s just hope the Gnome Evo tank is leak free.

The reason I’m mentioning this inspite of the fact that this device has short circuit protections and all, is that every single time I’ve removed batteries from this mod, the insulation has come out with them, this is bound to happen with most rewrapped 18650s, especially if you’ve got custom wraps which are thicker.

My fear is that you’ll forget to replace the insulation or not realise that it’s fallen out, as happened to me once with this mod…all within the first day of use mind you but I didn’t switch the mod on.

So…under that adjustment button is your micro USB port, also for upgrades…and as I’ve learned, it is absolutely essential if you buy an upgradeable mod, that you check regularly for upgrades but especially directly after purchase.

Please read my article about the Exoskeleton to learn more about the worst case scenario if you don’t…I’m not saying that there’s anything wrong with this mod but I want to keep you informed.

Let’s keep vaping safe and cultivate a careful mindset, because too many incidents will result in harsher laws, think about it.

End of rant.

ravage 230 colour screenOKay so…clickedy click 5 times and man, does that screen steel the show, beautiful, almost 3 dimensional colour display with comprehensive info. It looks the Biz, it does the job and it’s one of the best non-touch screen displays around, visually…with all kinds pictoral flourishes which remind me of Mustang info gauges…I always wanted a Mustang.

There’s a real time digital clock and volts, watts, ohms, puffs, charge, all taking up less space than the decorative visuals, which results in easy reading and an instantly understandable layout. No squinting. I love this screen display.

Gnome EvoTankgnome evo exploded view

What a neat little tank: very squat, very minimalist and I love the zinc alloy base and top cap, both with simplistic  and visually complimentary knurling.

I think what makes this look unique is the fact that it’s so top cap heavy that it almost looks like an RDTA from afar…instant cool factor. The airflow cut outs on the airflow ring are scooped out of the bottom, instead of being holes through, which has allowed for a thinner base design.Wismec gnome evo tank

Follow the squat 4/2 ml tank up and reach a bottom top cap ring that’s 2 x that thickness; with the topmost cap, which slides open, above that and tapering to a colour coded 510 Delrin top, which must be removed to slide and fill.

Wow…that was one hell of a compound sentence.

The slide cap is solid and perfectly machined and the whole tank feels well put together and sturdy, with as few complications as possible.

It dismantles with ease and all the o-rings are just right.

I do wish that I didn’t have to remove the drip tip to open the cap though, it seems like something that could easily have been worked around or am I wrong?

Wait a minute! I see the drip tip serves as a lock, obviously a different lock would have interfered with the sleek, minimal vibes, okay so on the drip tip front…all is forgiven.

Fill is through a port in the metal lower-top-cap, not through a silicon gasket, the port is small but then so is the tank, luckily it’s elongated so you won’t get a vacuum spill.

Accessories

All the necessary spares are provided, as is a comprehensive manual…however, given that this mod has such a high wattage upper limit, I find it a shame that accessories include only two of the same, medium wattage coils and not a lower res option so that users can enjoy the full scope, all within the bounds of the kit.

I’m afraid I don’t have the WM02 or WM03 coil heads handy but I’d have liked to see the WM03, which has a higher wattage limit, included here.

How Does The Wismec Sinuous Ravage230 Perform?

Look, I handle a lot of vape mods on a daily basis but one thing they tend to have in common is the fact that 2 adjustment buttons and a fire button…or just a fire button, is the maximum.

Wismec Sinuous Ravage230 reviewThis function button, for me, seems a little unnecessary. I’ve yet to discover what extra function this button allows, which mods with the basic three are unable to achieve…it literally complicates the process, resulting in a less then intuitive badge from me for the interface controls.

Scrolling also isn’t perfect and tends to lag and then speed up so that you need to keep round robbin numerous times in order to catch your specific setting. Say no more.

I’ve given up on scrolling and now just click, click, click…since this ends up actually saving time. It took me about 4 minutes to set the date and time by scrolling and I decided that was enough of that.

ravage 230 blackSpeaking of time, I like the RTC mode which displays date and time in an eye catching digital format, I find it super handy.

TC all works great for SS and Ni and is, it appears, pretty much accurate.

The Ramp time is certainly not too shabby, I tested out the Smok Big Baby and even the massive Smok TFV12 Prince, both of which I recently reviewed. The test bore good results and a damn near instantaneous ramp but I must say…testing 60W on these coils on a few mods by comparison, the Ravage isn’t necessarily a powerhouse, it makes it but it doesn’t scream power.

I definitely enjoy the Gnome Evo tank…supreme airflow and in my humble opinion, just right.

I’m not used to a 510 drip tip anymore but it matches well with tis teeny tank and to great effect. I find minor condensation in the airflow slots when I’m vaping heavily but that’s normal: I’m pleased to announce that, at least for me, this is a leak free tank.ravage 230 base

How To Fill the Wismec Gnome EVO Tank

  • Remove the drip tip
  • Slide open the Gnome Evo top cap
  • Fill through the port
  • Replace all componentsravage 230 how to fill

How To Change the Coil

  • Simply unscrew the pyrex from the base of the tank
  • Unscrew coiled from its seating
  • Replace
  • Wet Fill
  • Vape

Stock Coil Performance

The WM01 single coil heads have a 0.4 Ohm resistance and while their range is held to be 40 -70 W, I have actually experienced a slight burned flavour above 60W: so try not to stay too long in the upper realms.

With that said, I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the flavour on these coil heads, between 50 and 60W. In fact, 6o W on these coils, when tested, as I’m doing right now, on my Smoant Charon 218TS (which delivers a bit more kick than the ravage), these coils are fog machines of note and impressive for mid range coils. Still.

How To Operate the Menu System

  • 5 Clicks on fire on/of
  • 3 Clicks on fire to access menu
  • Power to select a menu option, adjustment buttons to scroll and function to exit
  • + and – at once locks fire
  • + and – while of will flip screen 180 degrees
  • Change wattage in VW with + or _, same with temp in TCR mode

As you see, function button is merely used to select at random times instead of the fire button, which seems to satisfy needs on most other mods with similar features… and that’s why it seems rather unnecessary and somewhat confusing.

How To Replace The batteries

  • Slide out and open the hinged chamber door
  • If the insulation is loose, use double sided tape or non toxic glue to stick it back in place
  • Enter batteries according to the markers on the door
  • Shutravage 230 battery chamber

Battery Life

As you can guess, the colour screen is something of a power drain when you don’t set the timeout short…when you keep the screen use to a minimum you’ll get up to 8 good hours of battery life, vaping around 60W, with dual Samsung 2500s.

What I Liked

I’m a big fan of the two tone look and surface design of the Wismec Ravage mod, plus the materials are scratch resistant and look beautiful.

The fire button, in spite of my speculation about future leaks and the juice-tight question, is flipping spectrangular. Well it is huge, rectangular and spectacular to…c’mon! Another plus is the button responsiveness all round, except for scroll timing.

Of course this colour screen is a knockout too. Last but not least I fancy the little Gnome Evo and these flavour-punching coils, even if I’d have liked a lower ohm inclusion. I even spent my last cash on a fancy resin 510 and fancy vape band because I’m getting so attached to the Gnome Evo…it’s here to stay, I’ll be investing in the range of WM coils for this when my next check comes in, for sure!

What I Dislike

This function button is, for me, merely a reason to waste an extra second trying to remember which is for what and half the time pressing wrong between fire and function and having to start over…why? I ask you, why?

Having compared the same few tanks, Gnome Evo included, on this and a handful of my favourite dual 18650 devices, I can say this isn’t a powerhouse per say but luckily the range is huge so no need to limit yourself if it feels as if the vape is a little less than true wattage.

Then, last but not least, you know my beef with this disposable style insulation and exposed circuitry on the battery chamber, combined with a fire button that’s not airtight, I’ve vented enough on that front.

Final Review Verdict

The Wismec Sinuous Ravage230 mod with it’s beautiful colour display and quality finishes is really special, perfect for a small hand or a high wattage vaper who likes a light weight mod that’s only barely bigger than the batteries that run it.

I love the screen of this mod and I think you will too, combined with the Gnome’s performance…a couple of good reasons to consider this one.

And..

Would I buy the Ravage230 if I lost/broke the device? If Wismec upgraded the battery chamber situation, I would but as it is, I’m afraid not…I would buy the tank though, in a heartbeat.

Pros

  • Awesome Gnome Evo tank
  • Great look and very compact design
  • Bright, colorful, beautiful screen display
  • All the functions you could ask for in a TC mod.

Cons

  • Screen drains battery
  • Batter chamber doesn’t have fixed insulation or walls
  • The inclusion of a function button complicates matters

wismec-sinuous-ravage230-reviewThe looks and screen on the Ravage are superb as is the tank but for me I feel let down by the insulation in the battery chamber.

  1. That side panel, where is fire bas is poorly made, its wobble, and its a loud wiggly when you shake your mod and its only after 3 days. One screw should also hold the side panel where is fire bar, but there is only some kind of foam – Brushed Silver version..

  2. Hello I just purchased a Ravage about a week ago and got it for the awesome price of $25 online. I also got the new gold and blue colorway they recently released back in April along with a gloss orange and gloss purple/rainbow colorway.

The gold plating is very shiny and well done. The anodized blue in the middle of the body looks nice as well. I love the color screen and since the update they released now the function button above the firebar is now much more intuitive then previously. I installed the “Red Panda” firmware on the mod which makes it almost DNA like.

It performs well, has great battery life and a very clicky fire bar. I do notice a slight lag in ramp up and firing speed if the screen has been off for awhile. The major con of the mod is that the fire bar very noticeably wiggles back and forth. Other than that this mod was a steal for the price I got it for and Im very happy I added it to my ever growing collection.

    • Hi, Tony…thank you so much for this feedback and also very glad to hear that you are enjoying the mod. I must say, this is also one of my favourites! While I didn’t experience this issue with the fire-bar, I know that on occasion, mods or batches can vary slightly. Hmmmm, gold and blue? That must be a looker!

  3. I’ve just got mine, really like it apart from my fire bar has some up and down movement which is really annoying!!
