What can we expect from the AP2 by Geekvape?

ap2 bannerWe have here a small pod kit, which is designed for multiple uses.

With two types of coils included, it’s supposed to be tailored to both mouth to lung style (breathe into mouth, then into lungs) as well as restricted direct to lung. We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

It looks like a great starting point for new vapers, as well as having enough for experienced vapers to enjoy. This is the second version of the AP, unfortunately I’ve not tried the original but I’m excited to try this one!

Compatible with the popular G Series coils, with a wide range of colour options this pod is likely to tick a few boxes.

Only one button to control the whole system, with a little light underneath to give indications.

A simple device that could be deemed a little limited for those looking for something a bit more. But, let’s take a closer look and find out.

Design and Build Quality

I have to say that I LOVE the shape and style of this vape kit. It’s small enough to fit in a pocket, but large enough that it sits in the hand comfortably without weighing too much.

There are 8 colours available in total, with 4 having a Camo faux leather panel and the other 4 having a colour to match the rest of the mod.

I received the beautiful Rainbow variation, and it looks super shiny, with a Black faux leather panel that brings everything together nicely. The rubber along each side means it’s comfortable to hold and I wasn’t too scared of dropping it.

The battery is 900mAh, which should be plenty to last a full day of vaping with the power that the kit provides.

When it does come time to charge, the Type-C port can be found at the base of the mod. For me, I find this a little restrictive as it means you have to do one of two things – either charge it with the pod on its side and risk leaking or take the pod off completely.

There are two ways to use the kit, you can either press the button and draw or use the draw only function.

Turning the kit off with a 5 button press means you can still use it as draw only, but you won’t accidentally fire it if it’s in your pocket or bag.

There are 3 different power options, which are super easy to change. All you have to do is press the power button three times quickly and cycle through to choose the colour you want:

  • Low – White light
  • Medium – Blue light
  • High – Green light

Airflow

The airflow is interesting, but I’ll get into that a little more later.

You can change from mouth to lung (MTL) to restricted direct to lung (RDTL) easily by swapping round the position of the pod. To do so, just take the pod off and turn it 180 degrees and slide it back into place.

It’s simple and easy to do. Which just adds to the appeal of the kit, you’ve got two vaping styles in one go. If you’re new to vaping, it means you can try both out with no issues!

Pod and Coils

The pods are made from a smoked plastic and come as standard with the TPD reduction of 2ml but are available in bigger sizes outside of the UK.

They are clear enough to see the liquid level, but you may have to remove the pod to get a clear view. It sits nicely at the top of the kit, held in place by strong magnets.

The kit comes with two different coils, a 0.8ohm and a 0.6ohm with the latter being preinstalled into the pod. You can’t change the wattage settings as the watts are automatically set when you install the coil, so there’s no need to worry about anything like that.

Quick Start Guide

How to fill the AP2

On the first fill, make sure to leave it for 10 minutes before using the kit otherwise you may accidentally burn the coil out. If this does happen though, don’t panic! It’s easily done, just means you’ll have to swap the coil for a new one.

It’s easy enough to fill the pod up, just follow these easy steps:

  • Remove pod.
  • Open bung on the side.
  • Place juice bottle nozzle through hole.
  • Gently fill.
  • Replace bung.
  • Pop pod back into kit.

How to change the coil

  • Remove pod.
  • Either using the coil tool included, or fingers, pull the coil from the bottom of the pod.
  • (Optional) Clean Pod.
  • Prime coil by adding a few drops of e-liquid onto the wicking holes of the coil.
  • Insert coil into pod.
  • Let sit for 10 minutes.

It’s not imperative to clean the pod in-between coil changes, this is completely down to your own preference. I tend to wash out with warm water, then shake out all the left over water.

How To Charge

Included in the kit is a charging wire, it’s always recommended to use the cable that’s included.

The charging port is at the bottom of the kit, so just plug it in and away you go!

Light Indicators

In the little black part below the button is a light that provides all the information needed for a smooth ride. They may be a little difficult to recall off by heart, but Geekvape have included them in the user guide.

  • While vaping, Red = battery < 30%
  • While vaping, Blue = battery 30% – 70%
  • While vaping, Green = battery > 70%
  • Flashing red x5 = Low battery
  • Flashing red x3 = No pod detected
  • Flashing red x8 = Atomizer short
  • Constant red light, for 10s = Overheating

How Does the Geekvape Aegis Pod 2 perform?

For this review I decided to try out a new flavour by Yeti, called Dark Berries in 50/50 PG/VG and 10mg nicotine strength. It is delicious! Icy, but not too menthol and the berry flavour is great.

0.6Ω Coil

The flavour of the 0.6ohm coil is okay, a little bit above average for sure. Does it give the best flavour from a pod kit? No. Is it worst? Definitely not. It’s certainly a great place to start though! For me, I found the individual flavours from the liquid became a little muddled together.

A full tank of juice lasts around a half day if I were to only be vaping an average amount. There is a 2ml max to each of the pods, as they are TPD compliant. Depending on your power preference, the wattage will set to the following:

  • White = 15W
  • Blue = 16W
  • Green = 17W

0.8Ω Coil

This coil is designed to be the middle ground between mouth to lung and restricted direct to lung. The MTL airflow configuration didn’t really feel like a true MTL.

Changing round to the RDL gives a slightly nicer draw, but really it isn’t that noticeable and didn’t change much for the flavour for me. Out of 10, with 10 being super tight, I’d give the MTL draw a 2 in terms of tightness.

The watts will set automatically to these, depending on which colour you’re using:

  • White = 12W
  • Blue = 13W
  • Green = 14W

Flavour wise, you can expect a nice solid vape but nothing extra. As before with the 0.6, I couldn’t see much, if any, difference between the power levels and I kept it mainly on the blue. I found the coil wicked better with a 50/50 juice, rather than a higher 70/30.

1.2Ω Coil

There is another coil available, but it isn’t included in the kit. I would expect this one will be tighter than the 0.8 and hopefully give a better MTL draw.

Does the Aegis Pod 2 leak?

ap2 pod

I have yet to find any leaks from the pods at all, which is always a good sign. There was a little bit of condensation but that’s to be expected. Geekvape do put this down to a leak-proof mechanism inside the pod, which so far has proven to work.

Battery Life & Charging Time

With a 900mAh battery I would expect this to last me at least most of the day with my vaping style, so it does fall slightly shy of this. Charging is fast though, within the hour I’m back up to full power and able to get on with the day.

ap2 battery

Pros

  • Two styles in one
  • Shape and aesthetics
  • No leaking

Cons

  • No noticeable difference between power levels
  • Only slightly above average flavour
  • Charging port location
  • Limited airflow options

Final Review Verdict

Overall, a decent enough attempt, but a little lacking in some areas. A great place to start for newbies and a good option for those who want something easy to use. I’ll keep this around, as it’s great to keep in my rucksack for days out and I’m not worried about the weight or dropping it anywhere silly.

I think the coils could do with a little bit of work, a slight tweaking could potentially give better flavour. I’m not a fan of some of the colour variants, but that is obviously subjective and some of you may love them! For me, airflow is really important and not being able to change to my own specific tastes is a drawback.

My name is Aly, a mid-20’s (ish) reviewer of pods, mods and everything in between. I started my vaping journey back in 2017, and managed to combine two of my favourite things – vaping and writing. I love a good MTL pod for when I’m out and about, mainly zoo trips and theme parks, but for day to day use I’m partial to a decent sub-ohm/mod pairing. I love animals, gaming and random last-minute trips out that make me anxious because I’m a Super Planner.

  1. I have the AP2, I would love it but for the continuous challenge to keep condensation or some type of leak from shorting it out. I don’t even know why I keep buying them because it is a complete waste of money despite the ease of using when it actually does work.

  2. I love the ap2. I chose light flavors, and vape 70/30 blend. I wasn’t a heavy smoker,, so it works for me. I like that the pods don’t leak, and it’s not overly big and bulky in size. Coils are easy to change, and last me about 10 days. Charging takes about 90 minutes from being completely dead. I also like that I can draw on the vape without having to turn it on and off. I can set it for the draw strength I want, and click it off to draw on it without pushing the fire button. To change airflow, you just flip the pod around. Easy to use, carry, and store.
