The Geekvape Obelisk 200 full kit review and this one is a dual 18650 battery set-up and as the name suggests, offerss more vaping power.

Geekvape is a manufacturer that, let’s face it – always create fairly decent mainstream products.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 review

They’re not in the higher end of products yet some of their kits can be a little on the pricey side.

But for the extra few quid, you generally get decent quality stuff that lasts well, especially from the Aegis line of products.

Not too long ago, Geekvape released the Obelisk 120 kit that the wonderful Kevin Jeffrey got the chance to test out.

A decent looking box-mod with an internal 3700mAh battery, 120w output and could be charged in -15 minutes thanks to a 65w charge!

Clearly however, someone at Geekvape HQ thought it be a good idea to make a variant of the Obelisk which can house two 18650 batteries instead.

What Can We Expect From the Geekvape Obelisk 200 Kit?

Hold on, what’s an Obelisk anyway??

An obelisk is a tall, four-sided, narrow tapering monument which ends in a pyramid-like shape or pyramidion at the top.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 kit

I have no idea how that relates to this kit but anyways, the GeekVape Obelisk 200 kit comes complete with the Obelisk Sub-Ohm tank, a 24mm tank which makes use of the new Z Series coils and thanks to the bubble glass, has a 5.5ml capacity.

Geekvape claim the Obelisk 200 device is the smallest 200w kit.

However I’m pretty sure I can pick out one of two different devices that are smaller? We’ll see.

The Obelisk 200 device features a CNC aluminium body with a maximum 200w output including a number of other power output modes.

The GeekVape Obelisk 200 device also has a nice looking screen and houses two 18650 batteries.

Geekvape Obelisk 200 Colours

The Geekvape Obelisk 200 kit comes in a small number of colours.

All of which come with a black Obelisk tank, unless you go for a silver kit which will come with the silver Obelisk tank.

Design and Build Quality

I received a sample package of the GeekVape Obelisk 200 kit which came with a matte black Obelisk sub-ohm tank and a black Obelisk 200 device.

The Obelisk Tank

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Drip Tip & Top Cap:

The 810 drip tip is about as bog standard as drip-tips come, but thankfully due to the internal O-Ring in the top-cap, you can happily use your own and I’ve had no problem with fitting my other 810 drip-tips.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 drip tip

Top Fill Port:

The Obelisk Tank has probably one of my favourite filling methods thanks to the top-cap’s style.

The ‘lift to slide‘ mechanism is really very good, lifting and sliding open the top cap is no problem, and refitting is as simple as just pushing to top-cap to the centre position, and it drops back into place.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 filling

I only have three minor gripes with this, firstly its impossible to know what part of the top-cap to push, and which way, however there is a little marker inside the top-cap so when you lift it up, you will see which was to push the cap.

Secondly the whole top-cap spins, not freely as such, but it does spin – And I hear people with beards have been known to get their facial hair caught in these kind of mechanisms.

So that’s about 90% of all vapers now moving onto another product!

GeekVape Obelisk 200 top cap

The last issues comes down to filling, unless you’re using a small e-liquid bottle with a small style tip, you may struggle at times to fill the tank.

It comes down to the fact the slide mechanism only slides out so far, so I found if using 100mm style chubby bottles, I’ve had to remove the drip-tip to get the tip into the fill port enough to not spill e-liquid all over the place… a little annoying

GeekVape Obelisk 200 the Base:

The base to the Obelisk Tank is also removable in order to fit or remove the coil.

The Obelisk Tank is a bottom airflow tank unlike Geekvape’s popular Z-Tank and the base had dual adjustable airflow which is a little on the stiff side to adjust, however there is a stopper and maximum open and fully closed and has a nice grip to it.

Tank – Overall:

Overall the Obelisk sub-ohm Tank is well constructed, with all the usual features you would hope for from Geekvape.

And for a 24mm Tank it actually doesn’t really look that small. The 5.5ml Capacity is definitely helpful.

The GeekVape Obelisk 200 Mod:

Geekvape has it plastered on their website that the Obelisk 200 is the smallest 200w dual battery device.

Well I’ve done a bit of digging around and found my Smok R-Kiss Kit which is clearly a smaller Dual 18650 device with a 200w output.

So just be aware of that, if you’re looking for a really small dual battery kit, don’t be put off by the Obelisk because its not large by any means, but its not ‘the smallest

GeekVape Obelisk 200 510 Connector:

The top of the GeekVape Obelisk 200 device has a brushed aluminium finish and you can fit up to a 24mm atomiser before you get any noticeable overhang, a 25mm fits, but due to the way the top of the device is shaped, it doesn’t exactly look right.

One thing I’m not a big fan of is the brass coloured screws on the top.

Maybe the final product will be different, but for me the three screws just look ugly. Especially the single screw near the face of the device, it stands out like a sore thumb.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 USB-C Port:

To the right hand side of the face of the device is a nicely positioned USB-C port for charging and firmware upgrades – I really like this position.

It means you dot have to lay the device down to charge it and the Obelisk 200 also features a 2A charge rate.

However, I actually picked up a 2.9A charge rate which is probably one of the fastest devices I’ve ever had the chance to review. Maybe not Obelisk 120 speeds, but still very good.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Front of the Device

The front of the GeekVape Obelisk 200 features a tidy 0.96″ colour display.

The usual fire button up top which is nicely raised from the face and has a nice click to it and two fairly sized adjustment (Left/Right) buttons which also click really nicely..

If you want more info on the Display, menu and functions – keep reading on!

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Battery Door

I cant remember using a battery door quite like this before.

The battery door is what we shall call a ‘Slide & Lift‘ style which also has a magnetic base meaning its supposed to click back nicely into place.

A short slide will unlock the battery door and a gentle lift will remove it completely.

Re-fitting the battery door takes a few times to get used to. There are two small notches in the middle of the battery door on either side that require lining up with the device. And with a little gentle force, it will slide back into place.

I haven’t had any battery wobble using this style of battery door, my only concern is the fact you have to slide the battery contacts across the batteries, which may, over time wear down or damage your battery wraps.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Externals:

The Obelisk 200 device is CNC machined and is a fairly good looking device, certainly very modern looking thanks to its sharp angles with satin and polished finishes.

On either side of the device is a polished panel which really suits the device, however they are finger print magnets and there is a nice angular curve to the back.

Th Obelisk 200 device doesn’t have any of these IP ratings so don’t expect it to be shockproof or water proof but that doesn’t take away from the actual finish and look of the device.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Mod – Overall:

The Obelisk 200 Mod is a good looker for sure.

Its smart curves, contrasts in black finishes and clever battery door certainly look and feel high quality.

Where’s my Sharpie!

The only tiny minor flaw, is the brass screws on the top of the device that for some reason, really wind me up!

GeekVape Obelisk 200 In The Hand

Once the Obelisk Tank is fitted to the Obelisk 200 kit, the device has a nice weight and feel to it, its certainly small (But not the smallest) dual battery kit and it feels especially comfortable as a thumb firer with your fingers wrapped around the curved edges at the back.

As a finger firer, its a little too small for my hands but its still fairly comfortable.

How To Fill The Tank

Thanks to the internal silicon grommet, its difficult to sill e-liquid everywhere, but one thing to keep in mind – If you use e-liquid bottles with large tips, you may struggle to squeeze the bottle top into the fill port.

Here’s how to fill the Obelisk tank:

  • Lift the top-cap
  • Slide away making point of the slide marker
  • Fil with your desired e-liquid
  • Push the top-cap back into place
  • Leave the e-liquid to saturate the coil for a few minutes.

The Coils

Geekvape has a few different types of coils.

The M Series, Supermesh, B-Series, PO-Series, G-Series and finally the Z-Series coils which are designed for the Obelisk and Z Sub-Ohm Tank.

The two coils that are supplied in the kit are both of mesh construction and have slightly different styles.

The 0.2Ω mesh coil is recommended between 70-80 watts and the 0.4Ω coil is recommended between 60-80 watts.

How Does the Geekvape Obelisk 200 Kit Perform?

Basic operation

Front screen shows:

  • Battery level of both Batteries
  • Power Output mode
  • Set Power
  • Coil resistance
  • Current Output
  • Voltage
  • Puff Count (4-Digits)

The Menu

The Obelisk 200 device doesn’t have a ‘Menu’ as such.

However, there are still a number of button functions to keep in mind.

  • 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
  • 3 clicks of the fire button will allow you to scroll the power output modes
  • Left Button will lower power output
  • Right button will raise power output
  • Press & Hole Left/Right buttons will lock the adjustment buttons (Will still fire)
  • Press & Hold Fire/Left will dim the display
  • Press & Hold Fire/Right button will brighten the display.

Additionally, there are no Power Plus modes or anything like that.

A lot of devices have a boost mode now which will push a slightly higher wattage through the coil for the first second or so. But with the Obelisk 200 device, Power Mode will simply apply the set wattage and no more.

Flavour & Clouds

For the duration of my testing, I was vaping on Code Red as always, by Darkstar. A Max VG fruity e-liquid that is, and has been my Go-To e-liquid for over 5 years now. How sad am I!

The 0.2Ω Z-Coil Coil (70-80w)

As much as manufacturers recommendations on coils are usually pretty good, in this case, I’ve genuinely found 60 watts being my preferred wattage for this tank.

The Z-Tank uses the same coils and I found after a while, 75 watts was my preferred wattage with this coil, but with the Obelisk tank, It really feels and tastes better at 60 watts.

Don’t get me wrong, it performs absolutely fine at 70-80 watts, maybe its the e-liquid I’m using or that I prefer a Luke-warm vape as opposed to warm/hot.

Maybe that’s something to do with the Obelisk tank being a bottom airflow tank?

Regardless of all that, the flavour is very good with this coil. I found the coil took a fair while to bed in, but once it does, its a joy to vape on.

Vapour production is also very nice and at the 60 watts, you enjoy a luke-warm vape. Its a competitive coil for sure.

The 0.4Ω Z-Series Coil (60-70w)

The same rules apply when it comes to the recommended wattage with the 0.4Ω coil. After a lot of playing around, 55 watts was my preferred wattage.

I was surprised by the performance of this mesh coil, at 55 watts with the airflow wide open, the luke warm vape is full of flavour and plenty of vapour production.

If I was going to be using the Obelisk Tank long term, day to day, I think I would be picking up more of the 0.4Ω coils, purely down to the fact the battery consumption is slightly less, but you still get a very decent vape.

Dropping the airflow down to half way delivers a nice restriction and still very enjoyable, just not to my preferred.

I’ve been more than impressed with this coil, especially considering its a slightly higher resistance than most of the high power, low resistance mesh coils we see from sub-ohm tanks nowadays.

Airflow

On the subject of noise – The Obelisk sub-ohm tank is about as ‘Noisy’ as the majority of tanks. With the airflow wide open it doesn’t create any whistle or turbulence but its not exactly quiet, but its by no means loud. So its acceptable.

Across the airflow range, the noise factor isn’t too bad and its a fairly smooth vape across the board.

With regards to adjusting the airflow ring, its very much on the stiff side, so stiff in fact that there have been a few times I’ve accidentally unscrewed the tank slightly, just from trying to open the airflow up. A little annoying but hardly an issue that’s going to put me off using/buying this tank.

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Battery Life

I’ve noticed nothing unusual about the battery life with the Obelisk 200 kit, at 65-watts with two 18650 batteries I’ve enjoyed a days worth of life, which is approximately 400 puffs in my case more than acceptable.

Pros

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Mod

  • Nice feel and look
  • Bright clear display
  • Nice clicky buttons
  • Fast charge port and nicely positioned
  • Fairly small and pocket friendly

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Tank

  • Decent flavour from both coils
  • Smooth airflow
  • Great Fill method
  • Good capacity
  • Subtly branded

Cons

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Mod

  • Brass screw heads up top
  • Will only take 24mm before overhang
  • Battery door may be a little fiddly

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Tank

  • Stiff Airflow adjustment
  • Fill-port only good for small bottle tips.

What could be improved?

Mod

  • Make the screw heads black
  • Dual 21700 may suit some better
  • I like the battery door, but also don’t like it.

Tank

  • Work out how to slide top-cap further so a larger bottle tip can be used
  • Slightly looser airflow adjustment

GeekVape Obelisk 200 Final Review Verdict

So why pick up the GeekVape Obelisk 200 Kit?

Well only you can tell yourself why, all I can do is tell you what’s good, what’s not and perhaps what you need to consider.

If you’re looking for a modern looking device with all the usual features and a reliable well built sub-ohm tank, then I cant really fault the Obelisk 200 kit.

If you’re perhaps a little more clumsy or treat your devices like dirt, then maybe consider something a little more hard wearing like the Geekvape Aegis Legend 2 for example.

Of course, if using external batteries isn’t your thing, the Obelisk 120 device may be worth a shot, unfortunately I haven’t tested that one, however I’ve considered buying it a few times.

So the 3 big questions I ask when testing a product are:

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

The Obelisk 200 kit is for sure, Geekvape quality. And by that I mean this is no Rolls Royce, but its certainly in the BMW/Audi/Mercedes category. S expect a good quality product which will last very well.

Does the GeekVape Obelisk 200 deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

I’ve been more impressed with the Z-Series coils in the Obelisk Tank than I was in the Z Tank. Weird right?

Well I think the difference is two things.

Firstly the airflow is from the bottom, and not the top like on the Z-Tank, and also the Obelisk Sub-Ohm tank is a smaller tank meaning the coil is positioned closer to your mouth.

Either way the flavour and general vape experience is very good – one of the best IMO.

Is the Geekvape Obelisk 200 Kit versatile enough to suit a new and experienced vapers?

Obviously I wouldn’t dish this kit out to a newly converted smoker. But for someone looking for a kit to replace their beaten up sub-ohm kit, the Obelisk 200 kit is a very good option.

Have you bought this set-up?

Or have you tried it?

geekvape-obelisk-200-kit-reviewI can see the Obelisk kit being one of those kits that's available for a long while. The tank is reliable and enjoyable with decent Z-Series coils, and the Obelisk 200 device is smart, comfortable and portable. No real complaints with this kit. Only minor observations and some tiny practical barriers.

  1. Just bought the obelisk 200 and so far so good. It’s well priced and delivers plenty of power. I played with the settings a little bit and found the perfect setting. Plenty of power, big clouds and tons of flavor. I would highly recommend this to anyone.
