So today I’m going to taking a gander at the Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA!

A lot has happened this year over at Hellvape, the company has released some really solid gear, in particular they have extended its Dead Rabbit range.

Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA article header

Hellvape has been around since 2016, they are based in China and really need no introduction to the wider vaping community.

Hellvape is most famously known for its Dead Rabbit range of RDA and RTAs, they have a few regulated device like the Arez 120 and mechanical mods like the Trishul V2 mech and Trishul V2 semi mech.

What Can We Expect From the Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA?

Well, to be honest I wasn’t expecting the Hellvape Fat Rabbit to be quite so chubby!

Something to take in to account before buying is that this topper has a 28.4mm base – you’ll need to choose your mod carefully or risk an unsightly overhang.

Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA check hand

The Hellvape Fat Rabbit has dual airflow systems and a 5.5ml fill capacity, the deck is easy to build upon as it’s a postless design.

And as always with Hellvape they have included a descent amount of spares with the kit.

Hellvape has released 7 colours of the Fat Rabbit to choose from:

As always my thoughts and views are my own after a considerable testing period.

Design and Build Quality

The Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA or as I like to call it the chunky bunny is a real beast of a tank.

I only have one other RTA that matches up to it in size and that is the Oxva Arbiter and even that is slightly smaller in height.

Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA

As you can see by my photos I was sent the black version of the RTA.

The tank comes nicely displayed in a cardboard box with an over sleeve, the extras can be found under the foam tray and includes a cutting tool, coils, glass tube, cotton, O-rings, screws and driver.

The tank is substantially built, I would call it rugged as the design is good with an excellent standard of manufacture.

Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA check tank

Measuring in at 43.8mm tall this chunky bunny has a tank diameter of 28.4mm and weighs in empty at 90g.

The construction is 304 Stainless Steel, Pyrex glass and has an 810 Delrin mouthpiece.

Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA Overview

Breaking the Fat Rabbit down, it has 6 components including the mouthpiece.Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA 6 parts

Starting at the top the RTA has a chunky anti-condensation delrin 810 drip tip.Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA 810 drip tip

The top cap is a ¼ turn with knurling on the edges to aid in placement and removal, the cap has an embedded O-ring for seating the mouthpiece.Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA top cap knurling

On the reverse side of the cap you will see the connection bayonets as well as another embedded O-ring to help stop leaks from the fill port.Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA top cap reverse

Removing the top cap you will see two very large kidney shaped fill ports.Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA port fill

And on the reverse side has an O-ring for the glass to sit on, along with the chimney section which also has an O-ring seated above the threading.

Between the chimney and middle sections is a 5.5ml Pyrex glass tank, spare is in the box.

The middle section connects the chimney with threading and looking from the top has two intake slots for liquid.Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA middle section slots

Two side airflows consisting of 4 honeycomb air holes and operated by a raised pattern ring, also on the outside of this section is a lightly stamped “Fat Rabbit” and “Fat Rabbit logo”.Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA logo middle section

Looking into the reverse side of the middle section you will see the connection bayonets for the base and the revere sides of both, the side airflow and the intake slots, this part slips over the coils and acts as the coil cover.Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA inside middle section

Hellvape Fat Rabbit build deck

To remove the build deck from the tank, a simple ¼ turn and pull out system – personally I’m not fond of this, I’d much rather have seen conventional threading.

The build deck for this chubby beast is a postless design, it has 12 internal airflow holes and has 4 wire slots, so you’re able to mount either single or dual coils on this sucker.

The positive wire slots sit along with the airflow on a peek insulator, the two wicking slots at each end of the airflow have stainless steel posts in front of them this is to stop the cotton touching the airflow.

Each side of the build deck you will see 4 flat head screws for mounting the wire, and around the base of the deck you will find an O-ring that helps to eliminate leakage from the connection to the middle section.

The bottom airflow is a cyclops design, it stops once fully open/closed and is operated by a ring that has a raised pattern like the side airflow.

The bottom of the base is printed with the usual safety marks and the Hellvape logo, the connection threading is well turned and has a removable pin is for cleaning.

How Does the Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA Perform?

Today I will be using the Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA on my Lost Vape Grus!

And because of my allergy to Ni80, I will be using my own DIY coils for this review.

Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA mod lquid

The E-liquid I will be using is Dinky Donuts – Coconut Donut.

Quick Start Guide Building the Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA

I prefer a dual build so today I used 22g KA1 on a 3.5mm bit which came out to 0.16Ω!

  • I cut my coil tails at 6mm using my original Coily Tool and dropped them into the wire slots.cut coily tool
  • Heat and scrape each coil to get rid of any hot spots!hot coils
  • Insert cotton and lightly fluffed it.
  • Tuck the cottontails into the wick slots, making sure not to over stuff as this will strangle the liquid getting to the coil/s.
  • Dampen the cotton and reassemble the build deck into the tank.prep coils
  • Remove the top cap and fill with e-liquid.filling
  • Screw the Fat Rabbit RTA on to your chosen mod and enjoy!in use 2

Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA in Use

I would suggest you use a mod that accepts a larger tank diameter or you will find that the 28.4mm base will overhang the mod – nothing worse than an overhanging tank LOL.

Building on the Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA is a breeze, the only thing I found a learning curve was the wicking – too much cotton and the tank gets strangled too little and it floods like heck!

Talking about leaking I have found if I lay the RTA down on its side for too long it does leak a bit through the side airflow.

in use

I’ve got to say I really, really like the dual airflow on this one, it’s almost silent I don’t think I have ever had such a quiet RTA, and on top that each airflow setting down from full open, brings on a more and more intense flavour, with a rich cloud production to match.

puff

I normally vape this setup around 55 to 60w with the side airflow open with 2 hole and the bottom AF open a ¼.

During my tests I took the RTA to the full 100w of my Lost Vape Grus, with these 0.16Ω coils the vapour was warm it wasn’t overly hot for my micro lungs.full

Chain vaping the Fat Rabbit was wonderful for me at 50w I soon filled my small office! I did notice that the tank does get warm while chain vaping it but it soon cooled down!

Personally wouldn’t put this tank on a hybrid mod, the pin does stick out a little but not enough for me to safely recommend it!

Pros

  • Very good quality
  • Design is good
  • Excellent vapour production
  • Intense flavour production
  • Dual airflow (almost silent)
  • Easy to build on
  • Cheap as chips

Cons

No major concerns with the Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA, everything works as described!

However I’m personally not fond of the bayoneted pull out deck, I would much rather have seen conventional threading so I’ll knock points off for that!

Final Review Verdict

I didn’t think I was going to like this RTA!

I am glad to be proven wrong, I am very rarely impressed with flavour or vapour production from most tanks, unless they are RDA’s, as 9 times out of 10 one is better than the other, but never both together!

The dual airflow allows you to dial your sweet spot giving some of the best flavour I have ever received from an RTA or any tank come to that, one thing I really like is how quiet airflow is.

Building on this deck is very easy, but wicking like most RTA’s you need to play to get it right or suffer from leaks or liquid strangling.

Would I recommend the Hellvape Fat Rabbit RTA?

“Yes” no other words need saying apart from well done Hellvape what a great topper!

Would I buy this tank again due loss or damage?

“Yes” for sheer flavour and cloud production alone!

So…

Thinking of buying one or two?

Hi my name is Kevin, I started vaping back in 2009 mainly because my little boy at 3 years old was starting to copy the way daddy smoked a cigarette! Over the years I have gained a good amount of experience with different types of vaping hardware but I'm just a normal guy who enjoys sharing my experiences. This is why I started my Youtube vape review channel in 2014. To date the channel has had over 500,000 views. Being disabled, vaping has given me a gateway to meeting people from all different walks of life, many of those I would not have met under other circumstances. The way I look at my reviews is, if I can convince just one person to give up the stinky’s my job is done. I class myself as a tinkerer as I like to take things apart to see how they work and put them back together, yes that includes e-cigarette mods! One day I would like to be able to design my own mod. I am a dedicated father, and husband to my sweetheart of nearly 30 years! Family to me comes before anything else.
