The Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C mod is an update to the Paranormal DNA250 mod that was released some time ago. The big difference in the latest version is the DNA250C chip with the Replay feature.

For those looking to buy the Paranormal, you might be finding it a struggle as is the way with LV mods, they don’t make enough and then stop making them.

If that’s the case check out our Lost Vape Centaurus review. This is the update and (at the time of writing) easier to get hold of.paranormal dna250c lost vape

This chip is, it’s fair to say, one of the most anticipated releases ever to hit vaping and has been the talk of the vape world since the first rumours surfaced – could this really simplify temperature control vaping?

Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C

In this review we’ll look at the mod itself and go into more detail on what exactly the new Replay function is all about.

No one can explain that better than the designers and here’s what they say:

Replay is a new feature introduced on the DNA 250C. Replay is intended to capture the flavour and satisfaction of the “perfect puff” and provide the same level of performance and consistency on all subsequent puffs.

The use of Nickel, Stainless, Titanium, or other material that increases in resistance when heated is required.

In addition, Replay will also prevent dry hits when used with wattage control.

OK all sounds simple enough and as the least technical reviewer among us lets see if this is indeed the temp control game changer many say it is and this makes it one of the best vape mods available!

The device was sent to me for the purpose of this review direct from Lost Vape – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own.

Incidentally the company helpfully added the Modefined Lyra sub ohm tank as it had a stainless steel coil installed in case I didn’t anything TC compatible.

I won’t be doing a review on that as it came un-boxed – however I actually rather enjoyed this one despite being stock coils 😉

OK let’s see how the RR…RR…R…Replay works.

Inside the Box

As you might expect from Lost Vape the presentation is indeed first rate coming in a solid hinged box and inside you’ll find:

DNA250C Replay and Key Features

OK given the actual mod is the same as the Lost Vape Paranormal released recently it’s the Replay feature that’s the unique selling point here.

So what exactly is it?

replay mode

In effect it allows you, the vaper, to find then save and Replay your perfect puff when using temp control compatible coils – including stock coils.

The new chip will also pick up a mix of metals in the coil – the full list is:

  • nickel 200, SS, Titanium individually
  • combinations of temp-sensing coils (Ti wrap with SS)
  • combinations of temp-sensing & non-sensing coils (eg. Kanthal wrap with Ti)

paranormal dna250c replay

OK despite the vast majority of advanced vapers including most of the big name reviewers not bothering with temperature control – in effect Replay simplifies the whole process making it accessible to all.

So what’s so special about temperature control?

Two main things – safety and flavour.

The safety side comes from the chip able to pick up a dry coil and shutting down to prevent dry hits and burning.

If you’re using TC in a stock coil and so long as you are within the right power settings for that particular coil you’re less likely to burn it out so increasing longevity a little.

As to TC improving flavour – what this means is by adjusting the temp rather than just the wattage technically you should find that sweet spot for the particular e-liquid you’re using.

I mean how many times have you tried a juice at say 50w and it’s a bit muted and at 60w it’s too much?

By fine tuning the temperature the experts say you can improve the flavour of your vape dramatically.

Until the Replay mode came along this meant quite a bit of tinkering within the menu system – which trust me on some devices can be a pain.

With Replay you simply pump the power up or down until you find the perfect setting – hit that button and it’s locked in!

Out Of the Box DNA250C and Replay Quick Start Guide

All of the device settings and menu style can be changed by using the Evolv/Escribe Software.

For more information check out our Evolve/Escribe/DNA guide.

And for once do read the user manual it’s an easy read and very informative!

paranormal dna250c battery sledge

OK as the title says this is a quick start guide as the device comes straight out of the box:

  • X2 18650 batteries into base
  • X5 clicks on
  • Use middle menu button to select features
  • Up and down button to scroll through options

How To Use the Replay Feature On The Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C

Replay will work in either temperature protection or wattage mode with compatible coil:

  • Select Replay profile on the device. Set the device to the desired power and boost level and operate it normally
  • Once you find the perfect puff – activate the feature to save the settings
  • The device will auto replay the puff every time when it is fired
  • Disable Replay to resume normal operation or find a new puff to save
  • The coil is not compatible if Replay cannot be enabled.

It really is as simple as that and with a few go’s you’ll be an expert 😉

Key Features

OK we’ve pretty much covered the main points with the Paranormal DNA250C but let’s touch on a couple of others.

First off you can of course use the device with any coil in simple power mode.

The Boost feature works extremely well and is ideal to add a bit more oomph to those larger coils that need a bit more power to get them glowing on the first fire.

watt boost

The device can also be used as an emergency power bank which works OK but obviously drains your batteries quite quickly so definitely only use if it is indeed an emergency situation!

As well as the board/display being customizable you can on some models switch out the panels – using the supplied sucker tool – to change the overall look of the device.

sucker

I say some as whilst there’s indeed a large choice of colour/design combos available only a certain few have this option so check before purchasing!

OK speaking of design…

Design and Build Quality

You’re either a lover of the Lost Vape look or you’re not it’s as simple as that!

Personally I love the look of the Therion series indeed my go to daily mod is the Therion DNA75c BF squonk mod.

The Paranormal definitely has a love hate relationship with the vape community – personally I love it.

I was fortunate enough to receive the Gun Metal with Pearl Fish design that came out of the box with the wood paneling.

Lost Vape paranormal dna250c reviewThankfully [lol] Lost Vape has added carbon fibre panels and these are easily removed using the included ‘sucker’.

I have to say now it’s set up in that all black against the gun metal – design wise I love it – very classy indeed.

However that kind of amber come tortoise shell edging to the 510 pin is almost a bit too much…more on that in a moment.

tortoise shell

Build wise you really can’t fault this – it’s quality all the way – mostly.

The battery door is spring loaded and has a wonderful action to it with absolutely no rattle whatsoever.

It’s a solid built mod in the hand with just one tiny niggle – the replacement panels.

On mine the wood panels fit snugly with no movement – however the carbon fibre have a slight and I mean slight movement but enough to ‘click and move’ when first picked up.

This could be down to the magnets or I’m just unlucky because this is a retail ready version.

That aside I really do like the contoured and almost spongy texture of the front of the mod – it’s very comfortable in the hand.

OK so I think it looks great – feels great how does it vape?

How Does the Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C Mod Perform?

As an out and out wattage device what can I say, other than just like all the other DNA chips I’ve used this one is as good.paranormal dna250c carbon fibre pearl fish

I don’t have any fancy machines to test if this is putting out say 55w – but based on experience and up against shall we say an inferior chip – you can tell the difference!

I used the boost feature a couple of times and again no issues whatsoever with a super-fast ramp up.

The Replay feature is an absolute doddle to use – after a few go’s – and I think I’ve eked another couple of flavour levels out of my go to e-liquid [Lemon Refresh by Chicken Shop].

However, on trying an e-liquid I feel is a little muted in taste I felt it jumped enough notches for me to notice.

One issue I do have is the 510 and specifically what I can get to sit flush.

Reload RTA not quite flush
Reload RTA not quite flush

I have tried most of the RDA’s and RTA’s I have – 22mm up to 25mm – and whilst there’s no overhang as such none of them sit absolutely flush due, I’m guessing, to that curved ridge around the front of the device maybe?

slight gap with bonza rda
teeny weeny gap with Vandy Vape Bonza RDA

That aside – look this is a Lost Vape device with one of the most respected/tested chips inside and that’s really all you need to know!

Pros

  • Replay feature
  • Boost
  • Evolv software
  • Good battery life
  • 200w
  • Very smart design
  • High quality build materials

Cons

  • Slight carbon fibre replacement panel movement
  • Not all atties sit flush

Final Review Verdict

As I said earlier the design of the Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250C mod is not to everyone’s liking – personally I think it’s both elegant and manly – something I fail at achieving lol.

It’s a shame Lost Vape and the team at DNA didn’t release a brand new mod to showcase the new chip and Replay feature but it is what it is and new devices are apparently incoming.

For those of us not into temperature control this is of course an easy as it gets introduction to TC and I’m pretty sure that whilst I’m not a convert per se I was impressed by the bump in flavour I’m getting.

And of course it goes without saying the removal of dry hits is a big bonus given even with RTAs whilst working I can forget to re-fill – it’s an age thing don’t mock lol.

So yes the Replay works and works very well indeed – TC purists might scoff but for us mere mortals it is a nice simple feature that can improve our vape experience and that can only be a good thing.

Now the million dollar question – would I go out and buy the Lost Vape Paranormal DNA250c?

I actually love the design and like the fact you can switch effortlessly to Temperature Control and Power modes and have surprisingly enough even as a ‘no frills vapers’ found myself using Replay a lot.

It’s pricey but then you are paying for quality inside and out so yes I’d definitely pull the purchase trigger on this one.

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA... I'm a former journalist and now a writer and sometimes author... I'm ex Army - adore dogs and never happier than hiking over the hills or with a good book on a beach.

  1. Thanks Neil for your great review of this Paranormal. I’ve been vaping for about 4 years now using the Kangertech Subox mini with Subtanks mini RTAs which I rebuild myself and it’s definitely time to move up to something better as the Subox feels like it’s from the stone age! My question though is about the tanks/attys I should get based on the fact that I don’t mind building my own coils but I am looking for an easier way to do it than what I’ve been doing with the Subtanks mini. Any pointers or hints would be much appreciated. Thanks

    • Hey thanks for your kind words mate – much appreciated I usually only get complaints haha.

OK as to tanks it’s as always down to personal taste – for stock coils I like the Innokin Scion 2 especially with the Plexus coil – it’s cheap ‘n cheerful and does the job well with the minimum of fuss!
Apparently the Horizon Falcon is another great sub ohm stock coil tank.

As for RTA’s I regularly use the Reload and Solomon Kaees version One [not the new one] both easy to coil and wick and great flavour.

The Coilmaster Elfy was another little gem and I’ve heard good things about the Bravo and the Kylin Mini.

      Hope that helps

      Cheers!

      • Thanks for your quick and helpful reply. I will definitely look into your suggested brand/models before ordering this Paranormal DNA250 mod since I’ve read many positive reviews about it. Looking forward to try it out 😉

        Cheers!

  2. atty’s aren’t supposed to sit flush. inspect the 510. The torx screws are recessed in, the 510 plate is then raised. Clearly this is done deliberately. This prevents attys scratching the device and thusly accommodates any size. Compare it to the Therion’s all-flat plate, I used my 75C religiously – it’s very noticeable and clearly a design difference, not a flaw.
