The Vapelustion Witness pod mod is certainly an eye catcher design wise, but looks aren’t everything as we have come to know all to often.

So the key question in this vape review is of course, how does it perform?

vapelustion witness pod kit review

Vapelustion is a relatively new China based company most famous, I guess, for the Hannya 230w box mod that dropped last summer, and the Hannya Nano pod kit, neither of which we’ve reviewed here on Ecigclick.

As Michelle found out in her preview of the Vapelustion Witness, getting any info on the company or indeed the kit, is proving tricky.

The company website appears to be down and the Facebook page is filled with slick marketing and picture perfect product shots rather than any hardcore facts.

So the question is, and in the words of the late great Marvin Gaye…”…Can I Get A Witness..?

The answer is ‘kind of…‘ as in I haven’t seen it on sale in many of the regular vape websites including those from China…not even on pre-order.

As always as soon as I find somewhere, I’ll add the link!

What Can We Expect From the Vapelustion Witness Pod Kit

It might not look like it, but the Vapelustion Witness is indeed a pod mod – it doesn’t feel like a pod mod either – a very solid build.

It takes a single 18650 battery and maxes out at 80w.

That might seem like overkill as it only comes with mesh coils that max out at 30w.

However, the pod is compatible with the Voopoo PnP coils and the RBA head…more on that in a wee while.

It’s a pity there are no other coils or indeed a 510 adapter, but who knows they may be planned in the future.

The Coils Makes Sense…

The coils are made by Sense, and that company has a decent track record of making pretty good tanks including: the impressive Cyclone and of course the legend that is the Herakles 2 RTA

So they should know how to make a coil with bags of flavour…we shall see.

OK, I’m guessing the design is going to be a big factor in the success of this vape kit, so that aside, let’s take a look and see how the Vapelustion Witness performs…

For the record, this kit was sent to me free of charge direct from Vapelustion – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are my own and not swayed by freebies…

Inside the Box

It’s a very detailed and posh looking box!

Key Features

The Vapelustion Witness is a pod mod powered by a single 18650 battery maxing out at 80w.

The only coil so far, is the Sense 0.3ohm mesh – and is said to be compatible with the Voopoo PnP pods and coils.

vapelustion witness coils

Apparently the Voopoo Drag 510 adaptor can also be used – meaning you can build your own – however I don’t have one so haven’t been able to test this out.

There’s x2 user modes – Smart that sets your wattage automatically – and the RBA [a mode not a rebuildable!] allowing you to over-ride that and set your own.

There’s a really quite smart – and very clear – customizable colour screen that shows all the vape info you need.

vapelustion witness screen

Airflow comes from the rather oversized switch or sliding lever – a design feature that certainly makes the Vapelustion Witness pod mod stand out from the crowd.

vapelustion witness afc

There’s no 510 – instead the pods are held by a magnet – not sure if an adapter is planned to be released – see above.

pod connection

The pods have a 5ml capacity dropping to 2ml within areas covered by the TPD.

There’s fast C USB charging and two of the mesh coils inside the box – so let’s delve a little deeper.

Vapelustion Witness Design and Build Quality

I guess the design of the Vapelustion Witness pod kit is the unique selling point [USP] and you’re either going to love it or not.

Whilst I’m not that au fait with steam punk – I’m guessing there’s more than a hint of that ‘style‘ about it.

logo

For some reason I’m getting a Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas vibe…

Yeah I know, where’s my head at – but hey I can only say what I see – it really does remind me of a fantasy submarine lol.

Personally it’s not to my taste design wise – a little bit ‘fancy‘ for me – I’m more your bland boring no over designed box mod – in black – type bloke.

However I can see the appeal, and my little brother who likes this sort of thing absolutely loves it.

Like I said, the design is very Marmite – some will love it others wont…

I have spotted black renditions, and that one appeals to em more…however I received the copper – and on that, the black leatherette on the battery cover looks good – despite the rather large logo – and also helps grip what is a very shiny mod.

Speaking of logo – the word WIT is on the front – not sure why they’ve shortened it but hey it is what it is!

Clever Lever?

OK…on to that airflow lever…

Again you’re going to love it or hate it!

vapelustion witness airflow lever

I’m kind of torn, yes it adds to that steam punk look and yes it works very well indeed.

However it does protrude quite a way out and does catch in your pocket.

I doubt it will ever snap due to the good quality build – but it can become a bit of an annoyance.

Like I said, some of you will bloody love it…and it is good to see something a little different…let me know your thoughts 😉

I’ll cover how the airflow performs in a wee while.

Vapelustion Witness Pod Mod – Solidly Built

I have absolutely no complaints as far as build quality goes – this is a solid piece of kit.

It’s made from zinc alloy and is very weighty, feeling like you’ve got a good chunk of metal in your hand – drop this on your toe and you’ll know about it.

battery door

The pod magnets are strong, and are sucked in finishing off with a very satisfying click – there’s no movement at all either.

Strong battery door magnets too – and it sits flush with no rattle whatsoever. Those of you without fingernails might struggle to take it off as there’s no gap and it does take a bit of force to remove it.

So…an interesting design and a great build quality is all well and good – the million dollar question is of course – how does the Vapelustion Witness pod kit perform?

How Does the Vapelustion Witness Pod Mod Perform?

Only one coil to test and the pod is bottom fill BTW and as simple as it gets with no fuss.

Indeed the way to fill is very clever and that silicone stopper is going nowhere – very tight seal!

vapelustion witness filling

One thing I’ll stress before I go on and that is it’s VERY important you prime your coil HARD before vaping.

I left mine for only a couple of minutes and after that first puff, I could tell I was close to burning the coil out.

Trust me this coil really, and I mean really, needs time to soak up all the vape juice to its core…

Yeah – it burned on me ha!

0.3ohm Mesh Coil

For the taste test I’ve used two different types of e-liquid – a nic salt and a 70/30 VG/PG to see if the coil could handle thicker juice.

After managing to burn out my first coil I let both sit for a lot longer than a few minutes.

vapelustion witness coil

The nic salt wicked beautifully as you might expect, and my current go flavour to is the Pacha Mama Sorbet – and whilst the flavour was very good, it did feel a little sweeter than usual…no bad thing I guess.

I had no issues whatsoever with the thicker e-liquid with the Ohm Boy Cranberry, Apple & Raspberry wicking well and tasting pretty good too…man that juice is good!

So flavour wise the Vapelustion Witness pod kit comes out in the pretty good area – not bad at all and like many stock coils out there, 3 fills and it broke in bumping the flavour up a touch too.

I’ve had two coils on the go for a week now with each having x4 fills and both coils still look and taste fresh…

Vapelustion Witness Pod Mod Airflow Control

Step away from the look of the over sized lever, and the airflow control works very well indeed.

The lever controls x2 cyclops style slots on either side of the pod and it has a very smooth action.

Once in place it certainly stays there, except as I’ve touched on, when and if it catches on your pocket.

Wide open and this is a very airy vape with 10 being extremely airy this is way in the high 8’s low 9’s.

MTL Style Vape?

You can vape on the Vapelustion Witness with the AFC completely shut off and as you might expect it’s very tight.

Slightly open and you are getting a tight MTL vape of sorts, however I found it was very warm with a hint of the coil ready to burn out again…

It’s certainly a smooth vape – no matter how open or closed the AFC is – however it can be a little noisy…especially when the juice level is low.

I found my perfect setting at the auto setting at 27w with the airflow 2/3rds open.

I reckon this one’s more of a starter sub ohm kit or one for the regular sub ohm user looking for decent flavour – the ‘look’ and the simplicity.

Pros

  • x2 user modes
  • Funky design [see Cons ha!]
  • Good flavour
  • Good airflow
  • Easy to operate
  • Compatible with Voopoo PnP Pods and RBA

Cons

  • Design is subjective
  • Only a 0.3ohm coil at the the moment

Final Review Verdict

Design wise it’s not for me, however performance wise it’s very good indeed.

As far as not really liking the look of the Vapelustion Witness pod mod, I will say having seen the black version, that one suited me better.

I’m not really a fan of the over shiny copper, but as I’ve said many times, taste is subjective.

The over sized airflow control lever certainly adds to that steam punk look and works very well indeed – again not my style [remember I am old and boring!].

The Sense coils – once broken in – give good flavour and plenty of clouds – but be aware you really MUST let them soak all the juice up before vaping!

And it’s great the Vapelustion Witness is compatible with the Voopoo Drag 510 adapter and of course the PnP coils.

Like the design of the kit, as you can see from the photo, the box is very fancy too which I guess is a nice touch and the included instruction manual is very detailed.

So yeah it ticks a few of my boxes – especially as it gives good [not amazing] flavour – meaning it gets a kind of thumbs up from me…

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA... vapelustion-witness-pod-kit-reviewI marked low on design as it's not my style and that's why I doubt I'd replace it either...however performance wise it's not bad with decent flavour and good airflow control...it's not for me - but if you like the design the performance is pretty good :)
