The Smok Nfix is a back to basic draw activation pod system that has variable wattage and a 0.69” OLED screen…

OK so it’s not really that basic but it certainly looks like a great place to start your cigarette free journey.

Smok Nfix Pod System

Through this review I’m not going to leave a stone unturned but first lets take a look at Smok as a brand.

Smok is without a doubt, one of the biggest names in the industry. Founded in 2010 they have been round since long before a lot of people even knew vaping was a thing, especially vaping as we know it today.

Smok has had great success with every type of vape. In regards to tanks the TFV line is and always has been sought after.

If you’d rather have a pen, Smok have a pretty big line of pen devices to suit both Direct To Lung vapers and Mouth To Lung vapers.

Maybe you’re more of a mod kinda person, and again Smok has a huge history with mods and kits.

You’d have a hard time finding a long term sub-ohm vaper, that hasn’t owned, or know somebody that has owned, a Priv or Mag mod.

Pod Mods are fairly new devices but Smok have even produced a few of those in the RPM range.

Last but not least, you guessed it, Smok has plenty of pods to choose from, the most notable for me is the Smok Nord, which is a very basic but brilliant pod system.

Having Very briefly introduced you to Smok, lets take a look at the Smok Nfix Pod.

What To Expect From The Smok Nfix Pod System?

I don’t think basic is the right word…maybe simple…

Yes I like that, it is a simple pod stick.

Smok Nfix Pod System bottom usbc port

Why does that matter? Because basic suggests it’s bog standard with no features other than a fire button and that isn’t the case. Let’s take a look at those features.

The Smok Nfix has variable wattage, ranging from 1w to 25w and it is powered from a 700mAh internal battery.

It does only have one button but it’s multifunctional and it has an elegant 0.69” OLED Screen.

The device is nice and potable, weighing in at just 32g and measuring at 10cm long, 2.1cm wide and 1.3cm thick.

It takes USB-C and Smok claims it can be fully charged in 60 minutes.

The pods are refillable but you cannot change the coils, because they are built into the replaceable pods.

Design and Build Quality

The Smok Nfix is available in 8 different colours:
Smok Nfix Pod System colours

The Nfix Device | Battery

With it’s chamfered edges the Smok Nfix looks good and feel good in hand.

Smok Nfix Pod System back

Along the front of the device there is a settings button, screen and the Smok logo, on the back there’s nothing, other than the Nfix logo. On either side is a small ~1.4mm airflow hole.

It should be noted that the button is merely a settings button and not a fire button.

The base of the devices are black with a USB-C Port in the center.

There isn’t really much more to be said about the device, everything is nicely lined up and symmetrical. The most important thing is that it looks and feels really well made.

The Smok Nfix Pod Connection

With a device like this, I think there is 2 key features that have to be right – the pod connection and of course the flavour.

Smok Nfix Pod System pod connection

The Smok Nfix uses magnetic connection points but that’s not all, on the pod there is 4 small lips that make the pod sit snug into the connection port.

Now usually I would say this is a terrible design because the little lips are sure to wear away, leaving you with very little in the way of a secure connection.

However that isn’t the case, we have to remember the pods do not have interchangeable coils, so the pod should be replaced long since the lips wear away.

Smok Nfix Pod System pod notches

The lips are in the shape of a ramp, so there’s no fiddling about with it trying to get it into the port and obviously it helps make the pod fit tighter.

I like it.

The Smok Nfix Pods

At the time of writing, there are two pods available for the system.

  • Nfix DC 0.8ohm MTL Pod (15-25w)
  • Nfix Meshed 0.8ohm pod (10-15w)

Only 2 DC Coils comes with the kit (no mesh) and both coils are PCTG (plastic).

Again, I would usually complain about both available coils being 0.8ohm, however they both serve a different variety of watt ranges, So I’m OK with that.

A large part of the pod is clear and above the device to form the mouth piece, allowing you to easily see the liquid level.

If you remove the pod from the device, half way down the pods translucent connection in a “min” line which is always nice to see.

The mouthpiece is smooth and Smok has done really well to find a shape that nice and naturally fits the lips. I should add, it looks bigger than it feels in my opinion.

Smok Nfix Screen

Like the rest of the device the 0.69” OLED screen is nice and simple, I think it suits the device quite nicely.

System screen

On the left you have your current power setting, in the middle is the resistance and voltage reading and on the right if the puff counter and battery indicator which displays the remaining battery as a percentage.

Smok Nfix Quick Start Guide

  • Filling the pod remove the pod from the system
  • Find and lift the black bung on the side of the pod
  • Fill the pod with e-liquid

When filling the pod for the first time, leave upright for 5 minutes to allow the liquid to soak into the coil.

Smok Nfix Operations

  • Power on/off: Press the button 5 times within 2 seconds – The Screen Displays the Smok Logo
  • Start Vaping: When the device has been turned on, start inhaling through the mouth piece.
  • Change Wattage Settings: click the button 3 times, when the wattage setting starts to flash press (or press and hold) the button, the setting will go up then loop back to 1w. After 3 seconds of no clicks, the settings will save and exit.

When Vaping (and for 0.5 seconds after) the device will display the timer interface.

How Does The Smok Nfix Perform?

The mesh coil pod doesn’t come with the kit so I’ve only used the Nfix DC 0.8ohm MTL Pod and I’m not going to lie, it’s pretty damn good.

Smok Nfix DC 0.8ohm MTL Pod

This pod/coil is designed to be used at 15-25W and as always I used it with the Got Salt Peachy Promise, which is a peach and passion fruit 50VG/50PG, Nicotine Salt.

pod

Let’s start way down low at 5W. I know what you’re thinking, “that’s not fair it’s not going to produce anything”.

Well if that’s what you’re thinking, you’re wrong! Okay, there isn’t a huge deal of anything but from a 2.3 second puff you get a little cloud and you can actually taste the flavour at the back of your throat, although it’s obviously not ‘very prominent’ but it’s still surprising.

10W is still well under the recommended wattage but here you get a vapour production not much smaller than the smoke from a cigarette and a relatively prominent taste at the back of the throat.

15W is the bottom of the recommended power range and it’s here where the coil really starts to come to life. You get a cigarette like amount of vapour and the flavour is definitely prominent.

I’m going to skip 20W because frankly there is only a certain amount of way you can say how good something is.

At full power, 25w gives you everything you could expect from a MTL vape pod kit. The flavour is brilliantly prominent and the vapour production feels so nice and thick it hugs your mouth and throat, although there is only a cigarette like amount of vapour.

Smok Nfix High VG

So lets get tough on this little beauty. I tested the pod with Strawberry Mango Crush by Juccier, mixed at 70VG/30PG and with zero nicotine.

I wasn’t sure how the pod/coil would handle the thicker juice, because although the coil is pretty small the wicking hole looks pretty big.

But sure enough I filled the pod up with the thicker juice twice and it didn’t seem to struggle once, even when I had 20/30 consecutive puffs. Although I should point out that I only used it at 25W.

I would recommend using predominantly 50/50 juices with the pods though, as it is almost certain the high VG liquids will shorten the lifespan of the pods, especially if they are used solely with High VG Liquids.

Smok Nfix Pod Life

I’ve been using this same pod for 9 days and it’s showing absolutely no sign of giving up just yet, even though it has has both 70/30 and 50/50 juice in it.

Again I would still recommend, to use 50/50 juice in this pod to prolong pod life.

Smok Nfix Battery Life

I think the battery is the only downfall for this device, a little more capacity would go along way.

Having said that, although a 700mAh battery can sound pretty small, you have to remember that it only uses a small amount of power. Let’s take a look.

charging via usb-c

At 25w you would get 185 x 2 second puffs which is a puff every other minute for 6 hours.

On the other hand at 15w, which is the min recommended wattage for the pod I got, but the max recommended wattage for the other pod, you would get 300 x 2 second puffs, which is a puff every other minute for 10 hours.

Similarly a 0.68A rating is pretty low to today’s standard but it does still mean you can get a full charge in about 1 hour.

So, it’s not great but for such a small simple device, I don’t think it’s necessarily bad either.

There is a feature I do really like, when you plug the device into charge, it estimates how many minutes are remaining until the device is fully charged.

One charge didn’t last me a full day…to be honest I used it prominently at 25w and it did last me about 5-7 hours.

Smok Nfix Does It Leak?

New pods have a tendency to get condensation build up in the pod connection.

Although the pod hasn’t leaked as such, I have noticed a small build up of condensation.

I would like to stress how small the condensation build up was, after all the time of use towards the end of my time using the device I noticed a very small bit of liquid between to two connections inside the port.

When I say very small, it wasn’t even a small drop, it was literally a patch of wetness.

Pros

  • Great Flavour
  • Easy To Use
  • Slim and Light
  • Variable Wattage
  • 1 hour charge
  • USB-C
  • Good For Both 50/50 and High VG

Cons

  • Only 700mAh Battery

Final Review Verdict

It’s simply great.

In my eyes the only thing that lets this device down is the battery capacity.

That being said I’d still recommend the Smok Nfix as a device for anybody that is looking for a simple vape starter kit, providing you’re not frequently away from power sockets for more than 9 hours at a time. But let’s face it, that’s a very small minority of people, in the day and age we live in where most cars, buses and trains have charger supplies.

It’s fairly small in size, small in weight and very generous on flavour.

Having interchangeable pod (rather than coils) makes it less hassle for somebody that just wants to vape with minimal faffing about.

Again the ONLY fall back about this device from a MTL pod perspective is the battery.

smok-nfix-reviewAs I said from pretty much the beginning, there is only one thing that brings the system down and that is the battery capacity.

  1. Why do the 0.8 ohm mtl pods have holes in the bottom? They don’t leak? Looks like I can see right through them..

  2. While I like the overall design of this unit I find it an absolute bugger to load the juice in it. Half the time more drools down the sides than I get into it. Once these pods are done I’ll be grabbing something else, unless I can find some tips on loading the bloody thing.

  3. Great review! I have both the nfix stick and the Mate and the Mate has become my daily carry since it has a bigger battery and is still really small! Both great devices, though, super simple!

  4. At 25w you would get 185 x 2 second puffs which is a puff every other minute for 6 hours??? <— POST CLAIM

I've been vaping Juice Head for well over a week at 20 watts and have over 1000, 2 second hits and it's still going just as good as the day I filled it up. Tastes just as good as it did on day 1.

  5. I have been vaping for about 5 years and decided to give this a try. At first I was very happy so happy I tossed the receipt away thinking this is the one. Not even 2 weeks it wouldn’t let me draw anything so I looked around online for troubleshooters and I seen where if I tape the holes off it would work well only momentarily. I am totally disgusted with it. Brand new, never been dropped and because I didn’t have the receipt I couldn’t return it. I just wanted it replaced and they said not without a receipt, I will stick it out with my Suorin Edge that I have had for over 1 year now. NFix is JUNK!

    • Solid review. I agree with most of it although I am perfectly happy using it on 5-8W. 25W is way overkill for me snd I’ve been vaping 6 years now.

  6. can i use 50 mg salt nic in this device because I’ve used 50 mg in crown pod it was way too strong for me I’ve been using in Caliburn it works perfectly
