SMOKtech, very well known for the absolute cloud machines such as the TFV8 and the latest TFV12, have manufactured the SMOK Spirals tank which actually goes against the grain compared to their more infamous tanks.SMOK Spirals tank review

With the Spirals tank SMOK are concentrating on providing a more restricted draw with intense flavour instead of an airy lung hit with massive clouds!

The Spirals tank is one that shapes up to hold big appeal to the flavour chasers, let’s have a look at how it performs.

Build Quality

It may be small, but the SMOK Spirals tank feels really well made. It is manufactured from stainless steel and has a reinforced glass tank section, with the SMOK logo engraved on the top cap, which also has small heat fins present and a removable delrin drip tip.Spiral tank on mod

It’s available in five different cool looking finishes as well, for my tastes it’s a good looking little tank.Colour options for Spiral tank

The SMOK Spirals is a short tank, only 48mm in height with a 22mm width, and it features a 2ml capacity designed to be compliant with European TPD regulations.

How To Refill The SMOK Spirals Tank

This tank is a top-fill:

  1. Grip the heat fins and unscrew the top cap/mouthpiece to reveal the filling port.
  2. Refill with e-liquid in one of the slots avoiding getting juice in the centre tube
  3. Screw the mouthpiece/top cap back into place

Leave for 5 minutes to allow the coils to soak up the juiceHow to fill the smok spirals tankAll very easy. The tank has been machined very well, and you can easily strip it down should you wish to clean it.Spiral tank parts

Airflow

At the base of the SMOK Spirals tank there are four airflow slots, which can be adjusted through rotating the airflow control ring.

When the SMOK Spirals tank is placed on a mod, I have found that it can be pretty difficult to adjust the airflow setting, as the airflow control ring is quite stiff.Spirals 2ml tank on vape mod

Nevertheless, there are airflow options here for mouth to lung hits right through to a slightly restricted lung hit when the airflow is opened up to its maximum.

RBA coil

Handily you do get an RBA coil head included with the SMOK Spirals tank, rather than having to pay extra to purchase separately.RBA for SMOK Spirals sub ohm tank

It is a single coil RBA head, that has an airflow hole at the bottom of the deck, and two screws in front of this.

It’s a beginner friendly rebuildable deck, and offers a very good option for people to build coils with.

It’s been pre fitted with a Clapton coil, which had a final resistance of 0.53ohm when I checked it on my ohms reader.

I’d highly advise checking the coil out before you use it, as the coil in mine was actually touching the posts, which can cause a short circuit in use.

I did adjust it before use by unscrewing the post screws and re-positioning the coil to ensure it was safe to use.

How Does The SMOK Spirals Tank Perform?

Out of the three coils that you get included with the Spirals tank, I’ve got to say that the RBA coil head was definitely my favourite.Stock coils for Spiral tank

I got the best flavour from this coil head, with a vape that bursts with flavour. For me it was head and shoulders above the two included pre made coil heads.

If you pick one of these tanks up, I’d dive straight into the RBA coil head!

The pre made coil heads do still offer a decent vape too.

0.6Ohm Coil Head

The 0.6ohm coil head can be used for mouth to lung vaping at 16-18W, or you can have a restricted lung hit up to the recommended 35W.

0.3Ohm Coil Head

The 0.3ohm coil head has an airier vape, with a very warm and pretty loose vape in the 40-45W region.

The coils do get through juice quite quickly as well, which exposes the limitations of the 2ml tank capacity. Not a fault of the tank but this is the law regarding tanks now.

If you don’t reside in the EU then the SMOK Spirals Plus is available. The Plus doubles the capacity to 4ml.

What I liked

I was taken aback by how good the flavour was from this tank, especially with the RBA coil head.

This is the best SMOK tanks I have tried when it comes to flavour, and one of the better sub ohm tanks out there for it.

Build quality is really solid. Although the Spirals tank is small, it feels like it is able to handle day to day abuse, and it has survived a couple of heavy falls out of my pocket.

Handily, if you manage to drop it and break the glass tank, a spare is included.

What I Didn’t Like

The airflow control ring is a little too tight when the SMOK Spirals tank is on a mod. I found it fairly difficult to adjust the airflow without having to remove the tank first.

Even though the Spirals tank uses much less power than some of SMOK’s previous efforts, it still gets through juice pretty quickly!

It does only have a 2ml capacity so if you are using this heavily you will need to refill often.

Final Review Verdict

The SMOK Spirals tank is a very impressive sub ohm tank, that caters more for flavour chasers than cloud chasers.

If you are looking for a tank that chucks big clouds- then you may want to look elsewhere as the SMOK Spirals tank has a more restrictive hit, that results in some intense flavour.

It’s definitely able to produce some of the best flavour I have experienced yet from a SMOK tank.

Alongside the great flavour it produces, you have a small, low profile tank that is very well constructed, and for me it looks great too.

Arguably this has become my favourite tank that SMOK have released to date.

Pros

  • Best flavour yet from a SMOK tank
  • Well constructed tank
  • Hasn’t leaked a drop yet
  • Rebuildable coil offers a top notch vape
  • Doesn’t get overly hot
  • Great looker

Cons

  • Seasoned SMOK fanboys won’t be happy with the restricted airflow
  • Still drinks juice like SMOK tanks are infamous for
  • AFC ring can be a little on the tight side

Vaping full time since 2012, started on cigalikes for a while then curiosity got the better of me and I moved onto an vape pens, a month or two later I was seeing people walking around with these interesting shiny tubes and I thought 'I gotta get one of those'. Before I knew it a trip down to my local B&M got me my first VW mod, an Innokin SVD, paired with an iClear 30, and I was hooked. Soon after that I was jumping to VW mods both box and tube shaped, before I then made the jump to rebuilding and thus sub ohming, with my first RDA and mech mod. These days I've come back to convenience and mainly use pods, disposables and the VOOPOO Drag H40. Most importantly I am still loving vaping!

  1. Maybe worthy of note, that quite a few vapers are having issues when building on the RBA deck, due to the fact that the screws are not catching the wire, especially if it is Kanthal or SS316L, if its Clapton then fine, but it would be interesting to find out which kanthal wire size does fit so the screws can grip it, I have tried 24 and I have got to go bigger, so looks like a 23 or 22. If smok had flat screws then this would not be an issue.

  2. I was wondering if the smok spiral coils are compatible with the tfv8 baby coils. Would be interesting if they fit, this would mean they also fit in at least the joyetech procore Aries, eleaf ello and vaporesso nrg tank.
