A great e cig device needs a tank to go with it. After the success of the Eleaf iStick, Eleaf followed up with the Melo. This is an entry level sub ohm tank to join the ever increasing sub ohm tanks hitting the shelves.

Can the Eleaf Melo compete with the likes of the Sub Tank Mini, Aspire Atlantis 2 or the similarly priced SMOK Vapor Chaser? Lets have a look.

Important Note. If you are new to Sub Ohm vaping please take a minute to check out this beginners guide to sub ohm vaping as well as our guide on the best batteries for sub ohm vaping. These tanks don’t run off any old e cig or battery.

The Melo comes in a nice yet simple little box and includes:

  • 2 X 0.5 Ohm coil heads

Melo Set Up

First impression of the Eleaf Melo are excellent. The tank itself is simply designed yet feels quality in the build. Looks wise the stainless steel body with ridged rings sitting either end of the glass tank definitely do it for me. One of the better looking tanks I’ve come across.Eleaf Melo Parts

The capacity is 3.5ml which for me is good and to fill this is the same as most tanks out there, a bottom filler. Simply unscrew the base, fill and replace.

The airflow control has been built well, fully open the Melo allows for five holes going down to three then one. It is possible to fine tune these so to speak by half covering the holes, this will give you the equivalent of two open holes. On vaping the airflow works well with a good noticeable difference between all the settings. Melo Tank Base

The only slight niggle for me would be the grip of the airflow ring. Due to the ridges being horizontal there isn’t really much to grip on to so your fingers can slip a little but there is just the right amount of resistance so as not to make this too much of an annoyance. Melo Coil head

The glass drip tip finished off the tank well in terms of looks, personally I’m not a huge fan of the glass though due to the visible condensation build up after vaping. This of course happens with all drip tips, I’m just not sure I want to see it 🙂

It’s not the biggest mouthpiece in terms of airflow, especially when compared to the huge Atlantis 2 and Smok VCT A1 but for me this isn’t an issue, it still allows for a great draw.

How Does The Eleaf Melo Perform?

The Eleaf Melo comes with two big 0.5 Ohm coil heads built with organic cotton. The juice flow holes are a touch smaller than other tanks but I didn’t see this noticeably affecting the performance in any way.Melo Coil

I plonked the Melo on top of my Eleaf iStick 30W and unsurprisingly it’s a perfect fit and looks fantastic. It measure 22.3mm so while not the standard 22mm it also looks a good fit on all of the below;

So back to the performance itself. First up was the 30W iStick. The Melo handled upto the max 30W with ease and the Generals Juices Lieutenant Limey juice I was using came across a treat, a lovely airy draw. At 30W the vapour was huge and the draw warm but not too much so to ruin the flavour.

I personally don’t tend to vape regularly in the late 20’s or 30W+ range and in this case the same applied. For my tastes 22W-24W was the sweet spot delivering just the right mix of heat and flavour.Eleaf melo Review

Adjusting the airflow gave a good range of tight and airy draws. Three open holes was my preferred setting sitting in the middle of not too airy/not too tight.

Overall – Final thoughts

I was impressed with the Eleaf Melo, for the price this is a fantastic tank with performance and looks to match.

Here are the takeaway points.

The Good:

  • Build quality is very good.
  • Performs well on a variety of box mods and looks the part matched with the iStick 30W.
  • Airflow control offers a good range of draws.
  • Flavour represented well and vapour volume excellent.

The Not So Good:

  • I like the look of the glass mouthpiece but I’m not a fan of the visible condensation build up
  • Not much grip on the airflow control so can be a touch slippy when trying to turn. Although this could just be my sweaty finger tips.

Final Eleaf Melo Review Verdict

Excellent – Highly Recommended.
