The Uwell Caliburn Koko pod kit is yet another new pod system to hit the market.

It’s a cool, dinky looking little square shaped auto draw pod system and a follow up to an extremely popular pod mod.

uwell caliburn koko article headerShenzhen Uwell Technology is based in China and they pride themselves in going that extra mile when it comes to their products and customer service.

Uwell has had many well received kits like: the Nunchaku Starter Kit and Nunchaku RDA Kit, Nunchaku 2 as well as the Crown 4 Kit.

They’ve also released a few pod systems too – the very well received Caliburn pod mod, the Amulet ‘vape watch’ and the Yearn Pod System.

What Can We Expect From the Caliburn Koko Pod Kit?

The Caliburn Koko pod kit follows on from the hugely popular Uwell Caliburn pod mod, which our Michelle reviewed earlier this year.

Two standard refillable fix coil pods come with the kit as well as a metal lanyard / necklace.

It has an internal battery and can fire to an output maximum of 11 watts.

The device is an auto draw system in other words you suck for your vapour, so it’s really simple to operate with no buttons to press.

The Caliburn Koko pods are suited ideally for use with Nic Salt liquids, as well as CBD vape juice and conventional Nicotine based liquids up to 70vg!

Caliburn Koko Pod Kit Specs

Measuring in at 67mm tall and with the pod installed a width of 43mm and a thickness of just 12mm!

The weight of the complete device is 33g.

uwell caliburn koko view exploded

The Caliburn Koko Pod Kit is a perfect fit for any pocket or purse!

Or simply hang it around your neck with the included necklace.

The Caliburn Koko consists of two parts; the body of the device (battery) is made of aluminum alloy.

And the refillable 2ml pod is plastic.

The Koko has been designed well, it is a light and compact little chap with a good quality of manufacture.

Caliburn Koko Pod Kit Battery Overview

Looking into the top of the device where the pod sits, you will see 2 small gold plated springy contact points, 2 plastic covered magnets and a small protruding airflow valve.

The body of the device is decorated with KOKO Caliburn both front and back.

An LED light located on the side of the device is a quick glance battery state indicator, along with a small airflow hole.

BTW this device has a chipset called the Uwell Bein chip.

Caliburn Koko Pods

The kit comes with 2 plastic top fill pods, one of which is pre-installed into the device.

 Pod Overview

Both pods are 1.2Ω no indication has been made to what the wire of the coils are.

But as I have had no adverse reaction from them – I’m allergic to Ni80 coils – I will guess that they are made of either Kanthal or Stainless Steel.

Uwell say the coils will fire up to 11w.

The coils are sealed into each pod, this means when the coils reach the end of their natural lives, you will have to buy another complete pod for the kit.

The Pod is made of clear plastic with red plastic bases.

The black plastic mouth piece is removable, and removing it, reveals the 2 small fill ports to either side of the chamber.

The pods have a minimum liquid indicator mark on each side as well as the usual CE and Recyclable marks.

To remove the mouth piece, simply pull it up and away from the body of the pod.

uwell caliburn koko taking off mouth piece

BTW, the mouth piece feels quite comfortable on my lips.

The bottom of the pod has 2 magnets, 2 gold plated contact points and single airflow valve between them.

uwell caliburn koko pod bottom

The pods seem to be quite sturdy and will forgive some rough handling.

The manufacture and design quality of the pods are good!

Fairly strong magnets hold the pod into the body, although when putting the pod into the device you have to make sure it clicks into place to make contact.

Once in place the pod has small window for liquid level, as seen on the side over the airflow hole.

window liquid

This window does not match up to the minimum liquid indicator mark on the pod!

It goes below the minimum level so I would recommend taking the pod out every so often to check the liquid level.

How Does Uwell Caliburn Koko Pod Kit Perform?

For this example I have fill the Pod up with Banana Haze Large Salts by All Vape.

Quick Start Guide

When filling the pod with liquid I do recommend you use liquid bottle with thin tip or a syringe!

Filling the Pod

fill pod

  • Remove the mouth piece and fill through one of the 2 fill holes either side of the centre hole.
  • Squeeze your bottle until the pod is full with 2ml of liquid.
  • Replace the mouth piece.
  • Place the pod into the device pushing until it clicks.

uwell caliburn koko pod assemble

Leave the device alone for around 2 or 3 minutes before taking your first puff to allow the cotton to soak up liquid – this is called priming your coil.

Koko Battery Settings

Make sure the battery is fully charged before use!

usb charge

Battery Power Level

As the battery power level degrades the colour of the LED changes

indicator power

I don’t ever let the power run out completely, normally once the power drops to Red, I charge immediately!

Battery Protections

The Uwell Bein chip has multiple protection functions to provide a safe stable and reliable vape these include:

  • Low power
  • Short circuit
  • Over vape indication

Flavour and Vapour Production

With a full charge I’ve got to say the flavour and vapour production was quite good for an auto draw device.

I’ve said it before I’m not a fan of direct to lung vaping.

As for auto draw devices I’ve never really found one that floats my boat until now!

The draw with the Caliburn Koko is almost instantaneous!

test toot

The airflow is on the more, tighter side than I am used to but smooth and the hit I got from my Banana Haze Nic Salt E-liquid tickled the back of my throat quite nicely.

Battery Life

I didn’t use any other device while testing this kit so I could get a good idea of how long the charge lasted.

It actually lasted me nearly 5 hours of constant use.

I was a little dismayed to find it has exactly the same size battery in it as the original Caliburn does!

stealthy mod

Don’t get me wrong, 520mAh is great for a mouth to lung device.

However and in this case I would have liked Uwell update the battery with bit more power say up to 600mAh.

The drop in power as the battery runs down is very noticeable from about half charge.

Caliburn Koko Pod Kit Pods

The pods that come with the Uwell Caliburn Koko kit are cross compatible with the original Caliburn mod and vice versa.

The only differences between them are the original Caliburn pods are 1.4Ω with black bases and the ones that come with this kit are 1.2Ω with red bases.

uwell caliburn koko diff ohm pods

I am surprised that both pods come with fixed coils rather than replaceable coils to my mind it’s such a waste of materials, not to mention money!

toot test

Pros

  • Kit Quality is good
  • Kit Design is good
  • Manufacture is good
  • Good Colour selection
  • Easy to use
  • Coil life is good
  • Good flavour
  • Fair vapour production
  • Fairly cheap retail price
  • Refillable pods

Cons

  • Battery life is OK could be better
  • Fixed coils
  • No indication of what material the coils are made of

Final Review Verdict

Not a bad looking kit, and it functions as advertised.

Good flavour and OK vapour production and the throat kick I received with this device was wicked with Nic Salt E-liquid!

The auto draw is the smoothest I have used so far, and the mod is small and pocket friendly.

I’m a little disappointed Uwell didn’t upgrade the battery, but let’s face it nearly 5 hours vape time with a single charge is pretty darn good for a small device.

Would I recommend the Uwell Caliburn Koko Pod Kit?

For those looking for a stealthy small device or those just giving up smoking “Yes”

Would I buy this kit again due loss or damage?

I wouldn’t rush out  to buy one myself to replace this one so in that regard “NO”

Hi my name is Kevin, I started vaping back in 2009 mainly because my little boy at 3 years old was starting to copy the way daddy smoked a cigarette! Over the years I have gained a good amount of experience with different types of vaping hardware but I'm just a normal guy who enjoys sharing my experiences. This is why I started my Youtube vape review channel in 2014. To date the channel has had over 500,000 views. Being disabled, vaping has given me a gateway to meeting people from all different walks of life, many of those I would not have met under other circumstances. The way I look at my reviews is, if I can convince just one person to give up the stinky’s my job is done. I class myself as a tinkerer as I like to take things apart to see how they work and put them back together, yes that includes e-cigarette mods! One day I would like to be able to design my own mod. I am a dedicated father, and husband to my sweetheart of nearly 30 years! Family to me comes before anything else.

uwell-caliburn-koko-pod-kit-reviewDecent flavour and like most pod kits, it's dead simple to use. Could just do with a bit more battery power.

  1. Good review but don’t agree with the wanting to change the coil out. I am so over nic freebase all over my fingers I was looking for a pod system that I could use and not get all sticky and sometimes a little sick. This and the original are like a mod met a Juul and all the benefits and tons of flavors to choose from. My local vape shop was always running out of the Caliburn so this should be another winner.

    • I have not experienced any leaking with this pod at all, the liquid you can see in the connection point is due to normal vape exhaust, which happens with every mod pod or not, the pods that come with this kit are basically the same pods that come with the original Caliburn and by what I have read there has never been an issue of leaking – thank for your comment.

  2. I was so gutted when I saw this has the same battery size as the Caliburn as to me the caliburn battery is the achilles heel.
When the blue light comes on (battery down to around half charge) the vape is a lot weaker so in reality you end up charging it before the red light. I have 2 caliburns and feel like I am always charging them. However for me the flavour does make them worth it!
Might pick up some of the 1.2ohm pods and see how they go in the Cali!
