The Uwell Crown pod kit review, and the question is can they take the crown for best pod system, or have they gone even further and taken the pod-mod crown as well?
The ‘Crown’ series by Uwell is extremely well established and respected.
Their last Crown 4 kit was very highly rated by our very own Kevin Jeffrey, and I was fortunate enough to try out their Pod-Watch.
That’s right, the Uwell Amulet Pod Watch which I actually really enjoyed considering its a watch, you can vape.
Lets not forget the Uwell Caliburn Pod Kit which is extremely highly rated across the vaping review scene, including by the lovely Michelle who gave the Caliburn a strong 9/10.
What Can We Expect From the Uwell Crown Pod Kit?
This time Uwell has gone down what I’ve started to call the ‘generic’ pod style, and on the face of it this pod system really wont surprise you with its features.
Two pods are included in the kit. A 1.0Ω Pod for MTL, and a 0.6Ω Pod for DTL – both pods house 3.0ml of e-liquid.
But whats this on the side of each pod?? An airflow adjustment slider! Now we’re talking!
The Uwell Crown pod kit device itself has a respectable 1250mAh internal, rechargeable battery and includes the option of using the fire button or the automatic draw system.
So let’s crack on with the review 😉

Design and Build Quality
The Uwell Crown Pod comes in 4 colours.
The grey finish is pretty much a satin finish, its pretty much what Apple call ‘Space Grey’ – a little boring but fortunately they’ve spruced up the style by adding a strip of Royal looking wall paper on the front and back which shows up really nice in certain lights.
The Crown device is made from aluminium alloy and it feels fairly well built, but the base of the device is made from plastic, which I feel is perhaps the weak point to the Crown – and unfortunately that’s where the Micro USB charge port is.
The pods are a tinted plastic which can make it difficult to check your e-liquid level, but the pods do come out easily enough, which is also a slight weakness as its possible to flick the pods out without much force.
They also feature the ‘Pro-FOCS’ flavor technology which they say:
‘It provides vapers with the ultimate vaping experience by properly controlling the heating temperature, strictly managing the material quality, and completely restoring the e-juice flavor’
So what does that mean in Flatcap language? Well it sounds lovely doesn’t it, but it doesn’t really tell me a damn thing other than it heats the coil to the right temperature so you can vape from it. So nothing new in this technology right?
The mouthpiece up top is comfortable to vape on and the secret weapon of the Uwell Crown pod kit has to be the airflow adjustment slider on the side of each pod.
This not only makes the Uwell Crown pod kit an ideal starter kit, but it also puts itself up against the pod-mod style devices like the Smok RPM40 and VooPoo Vinci devices as it has a similar battery capacity, and in fact more options thanks to the airflow adjustment.
Uwell Crown Pod Kit In the Hand
The Uwell Crown Pod System is light and compact but the excellent battery capacity means its not the smallest pod system, but considering its uses its a fair size.
And when I say lightweight, I really do mean its very light! I even went to the extent of weighing it against other pod style systems I’ve reviewed for Ecigclick, here’s the results (Note – All systems currently contain a few ml of e-liquid)

So its the lightest, yet has one of the highest battery capacities – there you have it!
Uwell Crown Pod Kit – Pods/Cartridge
The 2 Pods in the kit are extremely similar apart from the internal base to the pod which will be red for the 0.6Ω pod, and black for the 1.0Ω pod.
Unfortunately the coils are non-replaceable meaning once the pod dies out and you get that burnt nasty flavour, you’ll have to throw away the entire pod and buy a new one before you can enjoy the device again.
Thankfully, considering how dark the pods are, Uwell has been kind enough to print the resistances, and wattage recommended on the bases of the pods. Very Handy.
They also rave on about the ‘transparent window’ to check your e-liquid level, but its so small that its almost not noticeable.
On the side of each pod is a lovely airflow adjustment slider which shows ‘Min’ and ‘Max’ levels and slides nice and smoothly.
At the top the mouthpiece is jet black and is removable, but its not the most convenient to remove. Using your thumb, you effectively force the top part off!
Once removed, there is a small hole for filling the pod, and an even smaller hole to allow air to escape whilst filling.
Filling the Uwell Crown Pods
To fill the pod with e-liquid you can either remove the pod from the device, or leave it in place.
I’ve found its easier to remove the mouthpiece when the pod is left installed onto the device, then:
- 1 – Fill with your desired e-liquid – I recommend Nic-Salts for the 1.0Ω Pod, and a 70/30 e-liquid for the 0.6Ω Pod
- 4 – Push-Fit the mouthpiece back in place
- 5 – Leave the pod to sit for around 5 minutes to allow full saturation of the coil – known as priming your coil
How Does the Uwell Crown Pod Kit Perform?
Right near the bottom of the Uwell Crown device is a tiny LED indicator that will change colour depending on your battery capacity.
There is now wattage adjustment settings to make, its purely there for battery capacity level. Which will be :
- Green – Battery over 60% Charged
- Blue – Battery between 30% and 60% charged
- Red – Battery below 30% charged
If the indicator flashes red 10 times, this indicates that the battery is pretty much dead and its time to charge.
The only other operation you have to remember is that 5 clicks of the fire button will turn the device on and off.
Uwell Crown Pod Kit – Flavour and Clouds
For the Uwell Crown pod kitI was vaping on King Kong Titano which is a 70vg/30pg Apple Pie in the 0.6Ω Pod, and DripHacks Congo Bongo 50/50 NicSalt in the 1.0Ω Pod.
Uwell Crown Pod Kit – 0.6Ω Pod
Vaping on the 0.6Ω Uwell Crown pod kit with the airflow all the way open, you can enjoy a restrictive Direct To Lung hit, with plenty of flavour and a nice cloud, also a nice amount of warmth.
Generally the flavour from this coil is very good, oddly enough its able to pick up the sweeter hints in the e-liquid which the Amulet Pod Watch done a good job of too!
Uwell Crown Pod Kit – 1.0Ω Pod
The 1.0Ω pod works best for me with the airflow at the minimum airflow setting. Its still not extremely tight, but its a very comfortable ‘lit cigarette like’ restriction.
Opening the airflow up to Max does make a difference, but not enough to call it a restrictive Direct Lung vape, its still very much a Mouth To Lung experience.
Regardless of airflow, the flavour is just as good as the 0.6Ω Pod, and although the vapour production is less, its still a decent amount and that gentle warmth again.
However you will notice that experience will drop off a little as you enter the 30% or less battery life.
Uwell Crown Pod Kit Battery Life
The 1250mAh capacity is more than enough battery life to last a full day, on the 0.6Ω coil I went well into my second day, with the 1.0Ω coil happily doing 2 days of vaping before needing to charge.
So overall its not going to worry you if you’re out for the day, and even the evening.
Its a shame the Uwell Crown Pod kit doesn’t have a USB Type-C port for a fast charge, but even with the Micro USB port it hasn’t taken any longer than 40 minutes to charge in my experience.
Pros:
- Excellent flavour from both Pods
- Airflow adjustment works well
- Super simple to use
- Well built
Cons:
- Removing Mouthpiece for filling is a bit naff
- Pods are very dark, even with ‘transparent window’
- Pods don’t fit tight into the device and can fall out
- Cannot replace the coils
Final Review Verdict
Overall I’m fairly impressed with the Uwell Crown pod kit.
It’s got more to it than the average pod system thanks to the airflow adjustment along with the 2 pods allowing both vape experiences, and also the battery capacity is decent to last a few days.
There’s a number of features that I look at when trying out a device, and for something to score highly, it needs to meet certain demands.
‘Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?’
I’ve no concerns over the durability of the Uwell Crown pod kit thanks to its build quality and battery capacity. Which even with batteries degrading over time you’ll still happily get a days battery life out of the kit.
Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?
Regardless of which pod you will use most often, the experience is very good. For a new Vaper the 1.0Ω Pod, with the airflow adjustment means you can finely tune the airflow just how you like it. The 0.6Ω pod does a good job for a Direct Lung hit, but there is that slight restriction to it – still nice though.
Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper, and an experienced one alike?
The Uwell Crown pod kit is literally the middle-man between the usual MTL pod system, and a sub-ohm starter kit, doing both jobs fairly well.
Its ideal for a starter and certainly has its uses for a Longer Term Vaper for sure.
