The Aspire Cobble is one of the latest in a growing number of pod mods, many of which come from the Aspire stable.aspire cobble review

Aspire have released some excellent pod systems such as the Gusto Mini, Breeze, Spryte and the Nautilus AIO. So it has to be said, the Cobble has left me scratching my head as to why they wanted yet another pod. The only conclusion I can come to is that this is a more ‘fashion’ led type design that may suit a vaper that doesn’t want the same old plain vape device.

Who knows! I guess all that matters is really how it performs, which is what we are going to jump straight to.

Pod mods are, on a whole, designed for use with higher nicotine e-liquids or nicotine salt e-liquids. They are a mouth to lung style vape that is aimed at replicating that smoking experience.

Design and Build Quality

The Aspire Cobble comes in 5 finishes – Dark marble, Carbon Fiber, Mountain Mist, Wood grain and Zebra Stripe. I received the Dark Marble for the purposes of this review.Aspire Cobble Pod colours

Ok. Out of the box the first thing that hit me was the weight of this device, it’s seriously light weight, not only that but pretty small. This is great for vapers looking for a portable device that is easy to chuck in a pocket or bag.aspire cobble pod in jean pocket

The next thing that hit me was the all plastic finish. This isn’t unusual for pods but with the design finishes thrown in it does, for me, all come across as being a bit cheap feeling/looking when compared to other pod systems.

The round edges and smooth finish do give it a comfortable feeling in the hand though so can’t grumble on that front.cobble size compared note

The device itself is simple, both the main faces are nice and clean with opposite sides featuring small Aspire/Cobble branding.aspire cobble branding

There is no fire button, this is as simple as it gets, simply take a draw and the device will activate. There is a sensor in the mouthpiece that reacts well.cobble mod mouthpiece airflow

One side edge features the USB charge port and e-liquid viewing window (in the tank/cartridge itself) and the reverse side the LED battery indicator.cobble pod eliquid window

The indicator light is easy to understand and it can be seen when your vaping, good job really as it only activates when you take a draw, the only downside was I found myself going a bit cross eyed peering down at the light.

Battery Light Indicators

  • Green Light – 3.8V +
  • Blue Light – 3.5V – 3.8V
  • Red Light – 3.5V or less (needs charging)

Pod/Cartridge

The kit only comes with one cartridge, not a plus point for sure as when the coil dies the whole cartridge needs replacing, I’d like to see a spare in the kit even if it it adds a few £/$ to the price. aspire cobble pod cartridgeThe pod has a built in 1.4Ohm Nichrome BVC coil that is made for Mouth to Lung vaping and is recommended to be used with nic salts or free base e-liquid. Preferably ranging from 50PG/50VG – 60VG.

The pod connects with the battery by way of ‘slotting in’ and sites nice and secure.

aspire cobble pod and batteryAt first it seemed too secure as getting the pod out was a pain in the arse, I was trying to grip it with my nails in the gaps, wobble it from side to side. It eventually came off but not without a struggle.

I did finally find that the best way to remove the pod was to simply hold the Cobble in one hand and push the pod cartridge (on the window) with your thumb.

How Does the Aspire Cobble Perform?

Let’s take a quick look at how to fill the Cobble Pod.

    • Remove the pod from the body
    • Turn the pod upside down
    • Unplug the rubber bung and move to the side

aspire cobble cartridge fill port

  • Tilt the pod and fill.

how to fill cobble pod cartridgeI was using small 10ml e-liquid bottles to fill so the nozzle was small enough to fit in the fill hole. If you are using bottles with larger nozzles then you need to go slow as air pockets can build up in the pod causing e-liquid to pump right back out at you. A little care and attention and tilting should see you right though.

Flavour and Vapour

As you can see above this is nice and easy to use and setup. I tried out a couple of e-liquid flavours and PG/VG ratios, the first Apollo Watermelon 50PG/50VG and Twelve Monkeys Congo Cream 70VG. I used the 50/50 primarily for this review and filled with the 70VG purely to test if it could handle the higher VG e-liquid, which it did just fine, as long as you’re not taking mega long draws. I’d still recommend sticking with lower VG ratios or nic salts though.

I was pretty surprised with the flavour, I’d class it as ‘good’. The issue I had was the flavour starting dropping right off for me on the 4th fill. Still vapeable but would have liked to see a little more flavour life. I only received one pod so couldn’t check to see if it was just the pod. Did I mention I’d rather this came with a spare pod 🙂

Clouds aren’t something that I use pod mods for but you can certainly tell your vaping something so no problems on that front.

As for leaks and dry hits, nothing to report here in my time of use.

The draw is good for a mouth to lung. Hovering in the middle of not too loose or too tight. For the way I like my MTL vape it’s just right.

Battery Life

The 700 mAh battery life was good. Now keep in mind it all depends on how you vape, this will differ for everyone. For me personally I was getting through most of the day vaping moderately.

Pro’s

  • Good flavour
  • No leaks
  • Light weight and pocket friendly
  • Comfortable in the hand
  • Easy to use, even for those brand new to vaping
  • Vape whilst charging

Cons

  • Feels cheap in the hand (although this is why it’s so light weight so could be classed as an objective con)
  • Flavour dropped off after 4 fills (Only had one pod to test so no chance to try and repeat)

Final Review Verdict

The Aspire Cobble had me feeling kind of… Yeah this is an OK pod mod… It just didn’t get me too excited.

It has to be noted though that I prefer a bit more substance to my devices, something I can tell is there and feels quality. So you will need to decide yourself if a super lightweight device is a priority, if it is then the Cobble is a goodun as the battery life and flavour are good.

So would I buy the Aspire Cobble pod mod again if I lost the device? No not personally but I can see that it would suit many vapers looking for a simple, portable device

aspire-cobble-reviewWhile the performance was actually good overall the Aspire Cobble just didn't do it for me. I like a little more substance to my devices and this just felt a little on the cheap side.
