The Vapefly Wormhole RDA is manufactured and designed by a relatively new company to the vape scene who were EST 2017.Vapefly Wormhole RDA VC

They have been banging out some really interesting products just lately Galaxies MTL RDA, Mesh Plus RDTA/RDA and we had the pleasure not long ago in reviewing the Horus RTA and the Galaxies MTL RTA.

We are pleased to be given the opportunity to take a detailed look at the Wormhole RDA by Vapefly, possibly named as a nod to Professor Stephen Hawking RIP and his theories on wormholes.

Will it impress us or should a wormhole open up and swallow it? Let find out……..

This RDA was sent to us for the purpose of this review. As always my views are my own.

Design and Build Quality

My first impressions opening the box was OMG that thing is ugly!Vapefly Wormhole RDA tray

There is a lot going on with this RDA that it’s hard to know where to start.

I will mention that the overall build quality is good, much in keeping with the quality we have come to expect from Vapefly.

Made from Aluminium, Stainless Steel and PMMA this RDA is all about airflow, and there is a lot of it! The overall height is 28mm with a diameter of 24mm, the RDA is clean with no visible machine oil.Vapefly Wormhole RDA standing

Base/Build Deck

Made of stainless steel, the bottom of the base has the normal branding and markings.Vapefly Wormhole RDA deck info The 510 threading is well turned and the 510 pin sits out about 1mm, and is replaceable by the squonk pin in the box.

The two posts and are capable of holding either dual or single coils, the positive post sits on a peek insulator. The wire holes are large clamp style and the clamps plates are gold plated as are the screws.

Between the two posts is a removable inner airflow plate made of gold plated SS, the one installed is for dual coils and the spare in the box is for single coils. Removing this you will see a large AF hole.Vapefly Wormhole RDA int af cover onVapefly Wormhole RDA int clamp off

The liquid well on the Wormhole RDA is very, very deep! I estimate if used for squonking at least 5 or 6ml of liquid would fill the juice well.Vapefly Wormhole RDA liquid well

Barrel/Airflow

Made from Aluminium, looking from the bottom of the barrel, the shape is round but with 4 flattened side sections around the barrel.Vapefly Wormhole RDA bottom barrel 3 that house the bottom airflow (AF) each of these under the AF have dots,1 dot for single coil.Vapefly Wormhole RDA single bot AF2 dots for dual coils.Vapefly Wormhole RDA dual bot AFMoving up you have a ledge and more AF which I will call the top AF, 2 sets for dual coils.Vapefly Wormhole RDA AF single AF poss1 set for a single coil.Vapefly Wormhole RDA AF dual in possA little further up you will notice an O ring for the top cap to sit over.

Top Cap/Airflow Control Ring/810 Ring

The top cap (mine came to me damaged a crack on the side) is made of a frosted PMMA.Vapefly Wormhole RDA TC crackThe AFC is handled by cut outs to either side of the cap, moving the cap will restrict or open the top AF.Vapefly Wormhole RDA af poss topInside the top cap has a ridge that sits around the top of the barrel, on the top part of the top cap you have a SS ring that fits inside the top cap this holds your 810 drip tip the ring has an embedded O ring.

Drip Tip

The wide bore drip tip is made of frosted PMMA which is approximately 16 mm outer diameter with an internal bore of 9mm, a 510 DT can be used with the adapter.Vapefly Wormhole RDA TC bits

A quick guide to coiling

  • Remove the base from the main structure.
  • Unscrew the clamp screws.
  • Insert your coils and screw down.Vapefly Wormhole RDA coils
  • Re place the internal AF clamp plate to reflect your choice of coil/s.
  • Heat and position your coil/s, add your cotton and tuck down into the base.Vapefly Wormhole RDA cotton/coils
  • Prep your coils and cotton with e-liquid.Vapefly Wormhole RDA prep
  • Position the barrel so that the bottom AF reflects your style of vape.

Tip, if you install dual coils the post clamps share the wire, it can be a little fiddly to install dual coils, I recommend cutting them to size before installation.

How Does The Vapefly Wormhole RDA Perform?

For this review I am using 24g homemade dual Kanthal coils at 0.2Ω and Double Drip Caramel Apple Cake, on my Asmodus Lustro 200w.Vapefly Wormhole RDA lustro liquid

Airflow options

The Wormhole RDA has lots of options for AF that can be used in different configurations.

  • Inner AF with the supplied clamps can be used in either single or dual mode.

You can leave off the internal AF clamp plate in dual mode if you wish, but Vapefly recommend you replace the screw or you will get a bad taste! “I didn’t”.

  • Outer Bottom AF.

Can be used in either single or dual mode and adjusted to suit, just align the dots or turn it off completely for a tighter draw.

  • Top AF

Can be used in either single or dual mode in conjunction with the BAF adjusted to suit or turned off, the top AF holes are all off set.Vapefly Wormhole RDA firing

Personally speaking I prefer have the bottom AF open full in dual mode and the top AF set to 2 of the available slots, for me it give a good balance between flavour and vapour.

With a single coil installed and the AF set accordingly I felt that it was just a little too tight a draw for me, but that is personal preference!

Closing off the bottom AF in either mode resulted in a very tight draw for me.

45w

Bottom airflow set as dual fully open and the top open with 2 slots, gives a nice warm vape with intense flavour and plenty of vapour.

60w

AF set as above, insane vapour production and very warm vapour; the flavour wasn’t as good but still palatable for me.

90w

AF again set as above, the vapour was very hot and the vapour production was too much for my micro lungs to handle LOL, the flavour was basically none existent.

Chain Vaping

At 60w for 8 good toots, AF set as above and the Wormhole from cold! I found that the RDA got incredibly hot and didn’t cool very fast.

Juice well

The juice well on this sucker is simply huge; a large amount of e-liquid can be splurged with no fear of dry hits! If you use the included squonk pin be careful how much you squeeze your bottle, in my tests I almost emptied the 7ml bottle it takes a long time depending on the viscosity of your liquid to empty back to the bottle.Vapefly Wormhole RDA on mod

Clamps and screws

The clamp screws are made of gold plated SS and will damage very easily hence you have spares in the box, if you unscrew the clamp screws all the way the screw will come out as will the clamp, it can be a little bugger to get them screwed back together.

Pros

  • Build quality is very good
  • Huge juice well
  • Lots of AF if you like an airy draw
  • Very good flavour at lower watts
  • Insane amount of vapour at higher watts

Cons

  • My top cap was damaged
  • Design is ugly (subjective)
  • AF could be confusing to new users
  • Not suited to squonking (my opinion)
  • None existent flavour at higher watts
  • Gets very hot 60w+

Final Review Verdict

The Vapefly Wormhole RDA is very well built somewhat ugly, although the top cap on mine has a crack it didn’t seem to affect the vape I got from the RDA; I’m convinced the crack is likely to be just one of those things!

There is a lot going on with the Wormhole RDA in fact there is so much going on that it looks too busy. After using the RDA for a full week I have come to the conclusion that I like to vape it at medium to low watts, although if you want a lot of vapour at higher watts with little or no flavour this might be the RDA for you!

I have no doubt it will be a big hit with cloud chasers as the vapour production is insane.

Would I buy the Vapefly Wormhole RDA should I lose or damage this one? It’s really not my style, so no!

Hi my name is Kevin, I started vaping back in 2009 mainly because my little boy at 3 years old was starting to copy the way daddy smoked a cigarette! Over the years I have gained a good amount of experience with different types of vaping hardware but I'm just a normal guy who enjoys sharing my experiences. This is why I started my Youtube vape review channel in 2014. To date the channel has had over 500,000 views. Being disabled, vaping has given me a gateway to meeting people from all different walks of life, many of those I would not have met under other circumstances. The way I look at my reviews is, if I can convince just one person to give up the stinky’s my job is done. I class myself as a tinkerer as I like to take things apart to see how they work and put them back together, yes that includes e-cigarette mods! One day I would like to be able to design my own mod. I am a dedicated father, and husband to my sweetheart of nearly 30 years! Family to me comes before anything else.

vapefly-wormhole-rda-review-airflow-options-galoreA lot going on and somewhat suffering in the looks department but for the cloud chasers out there it certainly delivers.
