Hot on the heels of the highly successful Vinci range of devices comes the Voopoo Navi Mod Pod.

Having reviewed the Vinci R Pod Mod I was impressed with the coils, battery life and airflow control system.

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Hand Check

This time around, there’s a three tier airflow design – a fixed one, an adjustable one and another that purports to assist in cooling the coil when chain vaping.

It’s very pleasing to know that the Navi is also compatible with all the coils in the Vinci series.- such as the Vinci XVinci R and the original Vinci.

Time to navigate our way through this review.

Please note! The views and opinions you are about to read are my own.

They are based on my own experiences of the device. They may differ from yours should you decide to take the plunge.

What Can We Expect From The Voopoo Navi Mod Pod?

It comes as a standard (non EU) version featuring a replaceable 3.8ml pod. There is of course a TPD compliant edition packaged with a 2ml pod but everything else included is the same in both boxes.

You get seven resin panel colour schemes to choose from which are Carbon Fibre, Glaze, Ink, Lattice Red, Lattice Blue, Mazarine and Silk Purple.

As well as supporting all the plug and play coils currently designed by Voopoo, there’s also the option of an RBA deck.

If you’re a keen DIY’er and have good eyesight (not putting my hand up!) there’s money to be clawed back.

Of course this wouldn’t quite be a Voopoo product without their amazing GENE chip – I’m a self confessed fan boy lol.

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Boxed

Featuring onboard AI, it’s able to intelligently match the coil to provide optimum flavour and cloud production.

The Navi is also capable of storing the users vaping habits for up to two weeks, which is recorded and readily available on the 0.96 inch colour screen.

Design And Build Quality

The Voopoo Navi actually feels quite heavy for such a small device, weighing in the region of 80g.

That’s not to say it doesn’t feel solidly built. While the edges have no beveling it still feels comfortable in the hand.

I received the Mazarine colour scheme and this along with the reverse panel design reminds me very much of my beloved Drag 157.

I really like what Voopoo have done with their screen display.

It’s bright, colourful and puts emphasis on the power output reading, full kudos on that one!

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Default Screen

The raised dish shaped fire button is reassuringly firm and responsive as is the menu function bar.

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Default Screen Display

The following information is available from the home screen.

  • Voopoo Logo
  • Current battery strength indicator
  • Power output (Watts)
  • Device lock/unlock status
  • Puff count
  • Last puff duration
  • Vape mode
  • Coil resistance
  • Voltage (only during the vape)

The USB port has been sensibly placed for ease of charging. Voopoo tell us that it takes no longer than 90 minutes to charge the 1500mah battery.

When Pod Meets Mod

There are two magnets on the underside of the pod, and these align with those inside the mod to provide a nice firm connection.

The pod is also fool prooffitting only one way, pods for dummies and all that jazz.

As a pleasant change I found it very easy to release the flap of the silicon bung. All too often with pods it’s an annoying chore, not so with the Navi.

The PCTG drip tip is moulded into the pod so no swapping or changing going on here.

It’s wide bore so kind of catering more towards the DTL vaper – the included coil ratings would also suggest this.

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Independent Airway
The positive and negative gold plated contact pins together with the male connector for the vortex style airflow port.

Inside the mod there’s a male connecting pin. This is the independent third airflow option that apparently also cools the coil by creating a vortex of air.

How To Install Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Coils

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Coil Placement
Coil placement. Also shown is the female connector for the vortex style airflow port along with the silicone stopper of the fill port.
  • Pull the pod out of the Navi mod
  • Push the coil up and into the pod opening, pressing down firmly
  • Push the pod back into the Navi mod using the magnetic contacts

This is plug and play, folks – it really doesn’t get any easier than this!

How To Fill The Voopoo Navi Mod Pod

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Filling

  • With the coil in place lift the silicone stopper from the base of pod
  • With the fill port exposed carefully administer e liquid into the pod
  • Push the silicone stopper firmly back into the pod
  • Insert the pod back into the mod section

NAVIgating The Screen Menu

  • Press the fire button rapidly five times to power on or power off
  • Rapidly press the fire button three times to enter vape modes
  • Hold the fire button and the left menu button to reset puff counter
  • Hold the fire button and the right menu button to lock / unlock the device
  • Rapidly press the fire button four times to change colour schemes
  • Press the left and right menu button to view 14 day puff history chart
  • Depress the fire, left and right menu buttons to enter clock mode

While in the puff counter history chart you can reset the count for individual days – just highlight the date and hold both left and right menu buttons.

Clock Mode
Hold the fire, Left and Right menu buttons simultaneously to enter the clock mode

There are two issues here.

First, the instruction manual asks you to carry out the same procedure for entering the puff history chart! I found out the correct method through pure chance alone.

Secondly, the clock can only be accessed by holding all three buttons, it doesn’t appear on the main interface.

That’s a crying shame because of all the useful additions mods have these days, a clock is the one!

What’s Auto and P All About Then?

Let’s start with Auto.

This refers to being able to vape automatically and the fire button is disabled.

AP mode allows you to vape in either auto draw mode and classic fire button mode.

Finally we have P mode, and this allows only the use of the fire button and auto draw is disabled.

Airflow Modes
Good screen visibility outdoors

All three vaping methods work a treat.

I had no issues with auto draw other than having to exert my puny lungs!

It actually out performs the Voopoo Vinci in my opinion.

Time Out!

It will take 10 seconds for the screen display to dim.

After a further 20 seconds the display will switch off. That’s still a little excessive to me for a 1500mah battery.

I would have rather have seen it turn off completely after 10 seconds. Maybe a Negative Neil?

Powering on and off is rapid and efficient. It’s that good ‘ole Gene chip working its magic.

How Does The Voopoo Navi Mod Pod Perform?

Coils
Left VM4 0.6ohm mesh coil. Right VM3 0.45ohm mesh coil.

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod 0.45ohm VM3 Coil

I started with this single vertical mesh plug and play coil which has a power rating of between 25-35W.

Maybe as expected you won’t be able to MTL with these coils, this can be attributed to their power ratings to an extent.

It’s also due to the fact that there’s just too much airflow regardless of setting.

After experimenting with the adjustable front airflow on the pod I found mid position to offer the best vaping experience.

 Preferred Adjustable Airflow

Running at 30W, Riot Squad Sweet Leaf (nicotine salt) was really able to shine.

There was plenty of rich, sweet blended tobacco on show and the flavour remained consistent with every toot.

For a thinner 50VG/50PG ratio I got a very good performance. The coil held up very well with no leaking from the base of the pod.

The strawberry was very lively and clean when vaping Vampire Vape Strawberry Kiwi (40VG/60PG) freebase nicotine, which provided just the right amount of throat hit to give a very satisfying vape.

The cloud production, although very much as standard for all current mod pods was still insane!

I achieved 200 puffs on the counter and eight hours continuous use from the battery before it ran out of steam. Flavour and cloud production only really suffered within the last half hour of use.

The pod was only refilled once and other than a very minimum amount of condensation (I’m being very picky) the inner mod remained leak free.

All good stuff.

Voopoo Navi Mod Pod 0.6ohm VM4 Coil

This vertical single mesh coil has a rating of between 20-28W.

I started off with a 50VG/50PG blend of Riot Squad Loaded Lemon Custard which contains a mix of freebase and nicotine salt.

The flavour produced from this coil actually shocked me. Plenty of rich lemon curd with an abundance of sweetness thrown in and remaining throughout the exhale.

I found my sweet spot to be at 25W and as before, adjustable airflow half open.

The vape was both cool and smooth but cloud production fell slightly short of the VM3 coil.

There also seemed to be something of a wetness, for want of a better word.

Certainly not spit back so maybe the wicking wasn’t quite keeping up with the demands of the coil using this thinner juice.

Leaking VM4 Coil

Minor leaking also occurred while using this liquid.

Moving on to a 70VG/30PG mix with Vampire Vape Rhubarb and Ginger, a short fill freebase nicotine juice.

The flavour experience was on par with the 0.45ohm coil.

With a strong prominent taste of ginger and the rhubarb blending in very well.

Again there was plenty of sweetness on the exhale and cloud production very good for a pod.

I also found less of that wetness to the vape. Maybe an indication that this coil is better suited to a higher VG level.

No leaking occurred while testing with this 70VG/30PG e liquid.

Pros

  • Extremely pocket friendly
  • Bright, easy to read colour screen
  • Very responsive fire button
  • Impressive flavour and cloud production from both coils
  • Great airflow when used DTL
  • Auto draw feature works well

Cons

  • Inability to MTL with this kit as purchased
  • Drip Tip is taller than necessary (subjective)
  • Instant firing can interfere with menu adjustments (subjective)
  • Not enough scope for adjusting the airflow
  • Manual incorrectly describes the use of clock feature
  • Leaking with thinner juice using VM4 coil

Final Review Verdict

The airflow structure on the Navi works efficiently enough. It didn’t take long to find my preferred restrictive mouth to lung style and the flavour and cloud offered by both coils was very good indeed.

You’ll get a very smooth, airy draw from the pod although I’m still not sure of the effectiveness of the third “vortex” airflow intake that runs inside the pod.

It doesn’t draw airflow independently so I can only conclude that it works in unison with the other fixed and adjustable options.

On the subject of the adjustable front airflow option…

Airflow

As stated it does work well but there’s just not enough scope for it to be that noticeable when vaping, so for this reason I could only set it to half restriction.

It’s maybe more of a gimmick than a functional part of the pod.

Fixed Airflow
Fixed airflow port on the Voopoo Navi. Using this alone will offer a very restrictive DTL vape.

I found myself constantly using the trusty auto draw option for convenience. It also prevented me from blocking the fixed airflow port with my finger while using the fire button.

That either seems to be an inherent issue with pod based systems or just the natural tendency of my finger to get in the way lol!

Power And Other Paraphernalia

Power flows the instant the fire button is hit, extremely responsive to the point of firing even when dabbling with the screen options!

That’s an inherent issue with the Gene chip and not confined to the Navi.

Tip! Put the device into auto mode to prevent this from happening.

Take care when filling. Although the pod is transparent one third of it can’t be seen. It’s a bit deceptive so be sure not to overfill – like I did lol!

There’s also a reservoir built into the pod which drastically reduces the chance of dry hits before refilling.

The drip tip stands a little taller than I would have liked having knocked my teeth a few times on it lol – seems I’m neither short sighted or long sighted these days..

For what it’s worth, the battery charging time came in at 80 mins over various tests.

When push comes to shove you’re not going to find many gripes with the Voopoo Navi and I took great pleasure from using the auto draw feature because it’s so damn effective.

The smooth draw combined with awesome flavour and cloud production puts it up there with the likes of the Aspire Mulus and SMOK Fetch kit in my opinion.

Who Would I Recommend The Voopoo Navi Mod Pod To?

Everyone other than the virgin vaper.

It’s such a shame MTL doesn’t work on this mod pod kit.

I say kit because there is a 1.0ohm compatible coil (PnP R2) rated 10-15W that I haven’t tried. If that works then I would retract the above to.. well, recommended to everyone!

The coils themselves were still providing good flavour after five days of testing. I would imagine their lifespan to be within the region of a week before replacing.

Fitting coils and filling the pod is a walk in the park. Workable silicone stoppers are still a rare breed when it comes to open based systems like this.

The menu functions are simple and not convoluted. I particularly like the way Voopoo have drawn attention to the power output reading.

The puff history chart is a useful addition to anyone wishing to monitor their vaping patterns. Maybe more so to those looking to decrease the amount they vape.

The intermediate to advanced vaper will appreciate the flavour and cloud production offered by the two mesh coils, not forgetting the efficiency and power of that Gene chip.

It’s extremely pocket friendly, if maybe a tad heavier than I would have liked.

You simply cannot beat it for stealth using the totally reliable auto draw feature.

To Conclude

The Voopoo Navi is a little work horse of a mod pod!

There is a clear difference between auto draw and using the pneumatic mode, exposing the reliability and power of the Gene chip.

I also really appreciate how the chip is able to read the installed coil, you’ll never overstep the maximum power rating – very nice touch indeed.

It almost makes up for the lack of that onscreen clock.

As vapers we are always looking for new and innovative features.

Having a Voopoo Navi Mod Pod that only fired within minimum as well as maximum coil parameters would just be the icing on the cake!

voopoo-navi-mod-pod-reviewTo say there's a lack of innovation with pod style systems is one thing. This hasn't stopped Voopoo from creating a superbly designed Mod Pod that combines reliability with portability while offering superb flavour and cloud production from their PnP range of mesh coils.

  2. Hi, I have recently purchased the VooPoo Navi, and was going through your review for instructions on how to switch to clock mode (thank you for that, could not figure it out since manual is incorrect).

I also tried to change the colour scheme as you suggested (can be changed from yellow to blue). I noticed that when I changed it to blue “RBA” was displayed on the screen and this allowed me to increase the W from 28W(witht he yellow screen display) to 40W (with the blue screen display). Could you explain what RBA means pls? And how is it possible to increse the W to 40W when the max W on the other function says 28W.

    Thank you

  3. Hi, Lauralee.

Great to read that you’ve found a device that’s so suitable for your needs. Even more impressed that you didn’t let those leaking issues of the Mico steer you back into smoking.
It’s very easy in the early days to find an excuse to return so full kudos to you.
Plug and play coils are certainly the way forwards, aren’t they?
The only issue I have with the pods themselves are the silicone stoppers – and on occasion where they’re placed.
I do agree about the clock feature. Bit of a shame but with a device this good I think it can be overlooked.

Thanks for taking the time to read our reviews and keep up the excellent work.

    Neil

  4. What a great review on the Voopoo *Navi*. I Recently stopped smoking and got decided to try vaping. the Smok mico pod kit. (4 in total that week they were on clearance, so purchased some for my sister and her fiancé) well they all leaked and broke in less than a week. Decided to get the Navi. Never used a coil in my life 😬… was easily blown away at how easy it was to use. I came here hoping I could figure out how to get the clock interface to show on main screen and was saddened that wasn’t a given option 😭. Either way after the heartbreak from the mico Smok systems … the Navi has been an amazing relief. And joy to use. I’m using the same juice as I was in the Smok mico and couldn’t believe the flavour I was getting from the Navi and not the mico 😯.
Thanks for the review on this product. Really helped me deal with feathers that weren’t in the manual 😁
