The Voopoo Vinci pod system… Oh great another Pod kit! No!

Fortunately not a generic Pod System this time.

And after my Smok RPM40 review, it was great to have to VooPoo Vinci come through the post. Not only does it share a similar style with the RPM40, but it also distinguishes itself as a ‘Pod Mod’ – Or ‘Mod Pod’ as it says on the box.

What’s important about this whole Pod Mod movement is that it puts a line in the sand with regards to Pod Systems.

You have the typical closed system pods, which you can’t refill or change the coils.

Then others that are refillable – But what Smok and VooPoo have done, is create a different sub-category and have labelled it ‘Pod Mod’

So what’s a Pod Mod? Well I think of it like a typical Sub-Ohm Tank with a regulated internal battery device. However the difference is purely based on the ‘Tank’ which effectively nestles into the device and isn’t connected via the usual 510 connector.

The beauty being you still keep the simple, small device you might be looking for, but with a bit more bang for your buck.

So what’s going to stop you from putting the Smok RPM40 in your basket, and click on the VooPoo Vinci instead? Is the Vinci a masterpiece in the world of pods?

What Can We Expect From The Vinci by VooPoo?

To start with the VooPoo Vinci comes in 2 forms, the Vinci, and the Vinci R. Both are pretty much the same design and house the same ‘Pods’ – however the Vinci includes adjustable wattage options, optional Draw-Activated or Fire Button draw and also a nice colour screen.

Whereas the Vinci-R has no screen, and only has low, medium and high output settings. So if you’re looking for simplicity – the Vinci-R may be a better option.

The Vinci and Vinci-R Kits include a  5.5ml ‘Tank’ which click in to the device with probably the most satisfying magnetic click I’ve ever experienced – And to top it off, it has a 1500mAh internal battery, 2 airflow options and a maximum 40w output.

So let’s Crack on with the VooPoo Vinci review and see what this Kit is all about…

This Kit was sent to me for the purpose of review. All views and opinions are solely those of my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of others.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Carbon Fibre colour variation of the Vinci, and it’s a stunning-yet-simple bit of kit.

It’s slightly bottom heavy, which is a good thing, even with the tank full with e-liquid meaning you’ll have no problems standing this on your desk.

And even though its physically larger than the Smok RPM40 device, it’s still very pocket friendly. Think of it as a packet of chewits in your pocket.

I really really like the look and finish of the Vinci. It’s not a major fingerprint magnet either.

Yes the Carbon Fibre panels are a little cheesy. But there are a load of designs and colours so i’m confident you will find your favourite.

With its curved edges and protruding but smooth fire and adjustment buttons, it’s a very sleek device indeed.

In the Hand

The Voopoo Vinci has a nice weight to it, substantial in weight due to the size of the internal battery, but also the finish is very nice and solid. No plastic here (Apart from the Pod of course)

The Vinci is a nice, comfortable mod to carry around and it feels very natural to hold and vape on.

The Pod

The kit only comes with the one Pod, it has a 5.5ml capacity and it is smoked, but not too dark so you can easily see the level of your e liquid.

The TPD version of course will be limited to 2ml capacity, but it appears as if it’s exactly the same size pod but with just some form of silicon bung installed, which may be removable? We’ll have to see.

I’ve already mentioned this, but the pod clicks into the mod beautifully and there is no chance of the pod falling out easily – even with a rigorous flick of the wrist.

Something Clever

There’s something extremely clever with this Pod that shouldn’t be missed.

The pod itself offers 2 airflow options, simply by rotating the pod 180 degrees into the device. This allows a looser, or tighter draw. Which will come i handy for those looking for a more restrictive vape on the 0.8Ω coil.

Push-Fit coils may not be your cup of tea, but this feature allows VooPoo to make use of the multiple coil options available.

The PNP VM1 0.3 Mesh Coil

My kit came with the 0.3Ω Single Mesh Coil – Recommended at 32-40w it’s a blatant Direct-To-Lung coil with a nice large bore and big airflow slots at the base. A nice open-net style mesh.

The PNP R-1 0.8

My kit came with the 0.8Ω coil which VooPoo state to be a ‘Half-DL’ coil. And that’s a fair way to explain it. Featuring Dual coils inside, and much smaller airflow inlet holes, the coil offers a tighter DTL draw. But by no means is this an MTL coil.

It doesn’t appear like an RBA coil will be available, which would be a shame because that’s something I’m very interested in with the Smok RPM40

How To Fill the VooPoo Vinci Pod

To fill the pod with e-liquid you firstly remove the pod from the battery part of the device, then:

  1. Locate the silicon flappy part and gently peel it back
  2. Hold your pod horizontally and fill with your desired e-liquid
  3. Close the silicon cover ensuring its fully plugging the hole.
  4. Fit the Pod back onto the device.

At this point, the Vinci will automatically detect the optimal wattage for the coil installed. Which is very handy if you’re either new to vaping, or just unsure of what’s the best wattage for the installed coil

I strongly suggest giving the coils 5-10 minutes rest time to allow the coils to fully saturate in e-liquid.

You can prime your coils to save on waiting time by simply adding a few drops to the cotton a number of times. But either way I’d still leave the coil to fully saturate for a while.

Display & Functions

The Vinci has a nice clear screen which is approx 0.8in tall and about half an inch wide.

However it is a little dim. Especially in comparison to the Smok RPM40.

The display shows the usual battery life, wattage, puff count, puff time and coil and voltage numbers.

There are also a couple of button sequences to keep in mind

  1. 5 Clicks of the Fire Button = On & Off
  2. 3 Clicks of the Fire Button = Adjusts Between Auto, Manual & Both Draw Options
  3. Press and hold Fire & + Button = Locks/Unlocks all buttons (Will still fire when draw-activated)
  4. Press and hold Fire & – Button = Resets Puff Counter
  5. Press and Hold + & – Button – View Puff Information
  6.  + and – buttons adjust wattage from 5w-40w in 1w increments

Auto-coil detection is also a very handy feature with this device, and generally i’ve kept to the recommended automatic wattage set by the device. Very clever and actually works.

How Does the VooPoo Vinci Perform?

During my testing, I was mostly vaping on Low mg nicotine strength e-liquids due to the fairly unrestricted airflow on offer from the 2 coils that came with the Vinci.

Meaning I was quite happy vaping on Darkstar’s – Code Red.

Also I’ve based my opinions on using the most comfortable airflow option for me, which with both coils has been with the more open draw, as opposed to the tighter draw on offer by rotating the pod 180 degrees.

Flavour & Cloud

0.3Ω Mesh Coil

I’ve said pretty good things about VooPoo products before, especially when it comes to their coils. And the VM1 coil is no different.

The flavour is very good and the cloud this thing produces is very close to a 25mm Sub-Ohm Tank. Very impressive and very enjoyable.

 0.8Ω Coil

Apart from a slightly tighter air restriction, the flavour and clouds are very similar to the 0.3Ω coil, maybe not quite as dense a cloud, but still full of flavour and a satisfying vape.

Airflow

With the provided coils, the Vinci doesn’t provide the nice tight draw we all look for from a Mouth-To-Lung Vape.

However, you still have multiple airflow options depending on the rotation of the Pod, and the coil installed and they do make a difference to the restriction.

There’s no whistle or turbulence and it’s not very loud. Even when using the mesh coil with the airflow in the OPEN position.

Battery Life

Battery life always depends on the resistance of the coil, and the wattage you have the device set to.

Simply put – regardless of whether you use the 0.3Ω or 0.8Ω coil, this device will last a good day, even vaping at 40w.

Of course if you chain vape this thing – the battery will need a charge during the day. But for your typical day to day usage, the 1500mAh is more than capable of lasting a good day.

If you end up going for a higher resistance coil you’ll obviously enjoy an extended battery life. Maybe hitting the 3-day mark with any luck.

With regards to charging – from fully dead to fully charged, VooPoo state it takes 1.5hrs to charge.

I’ve charged the device 6 times and every time its taken different times. With the longest taking 1hr 52mins, and shortest taking 1hr 20mins.

Every time it was charged on a 1Amp charge. So let’s just meet in the middle and say their 1.5hr charge time is about right.

Any Other Business

With all the positives of this device, I’ve been annoyed to find the build-up of e-liquid which appears under the pod, and inside the top of the device after just a day.

Even with a thorough clean, the same thing has happened almost every day. I’m not sure if the O-Rings on the coils are not tight enough, or if it’s just a build up of condensation. But either way it’s there.

Pros:

  • Good flavour from both coils
  • Very Good Battery Life
  • Feels well made and high quality
  • A mini Cloud chucker
  • Nice Display
  • Airflow options are limited but available

Cons:

  • Display a little dim
  • Doesn’t come wit a legit MTL coil
  • Only 1 Pod with the kit
  • Amount of leaking/Condensation is a concern

Final Verdict

I’ve tried really really hard no to compare this to the Smok RPM40 Kit, which effectively is the same thing. But if you’re looking into picking up the VooPoo Vinci, or Vinci-R – Im pretty sure you’ve checked out the Smok RPM40 Too.

So let me briefly try and explain the differences between the two, and which one i prefer.

Both kits produce very good flavour, and excellent vapour production, so regardless of which one you choose, they both perform very well. Battery capacities are the same and the coils available for either kit are too wide to list.

What it really boils down to is personal preference, the Smok RPM40 RBA coil will be available soon, so that may be enough to tempt you. Add to that the 2-Pod options meaning you can make the most of the Nord, or RPM coils.

But then VooPoo coils in my experience are very good, and the Vinci has a slightly better feel and build quality to it. The display however, is dimmer than the RPM40 but it is a little larger.

The mouthpiece on the Vinci is also more comfortable and the airflow options will suit more people.

So it’s a difficult one, and like I’ve said, it really boils down to personal preference.

Personally – regardless of the improved build quality and larger size of the Vinci – I would go for the Smok purely down to the RBA Coil option that is soon to be released.

But if you’re not into rebuildables, the VooPoo Vinci would definitely be my choice.

There’s a number of features that I look at when trying out a device, and for something to score highly, it needs to meet certain demands.

‘Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?’

Absolutely. With its high build quality, very good battery capacity and long lasting coils this will happily take you into 2020.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

A very enjoyable vape, regardless of which coil you use. And a surprising cloud chucker.

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper, and an experienced one alike?

Not exactly. Most new vapers start on a mouth to lung vape. This isn’t going to satisfy.

For vapers into Direct-To-Lung vaping that just want a small pocket mod that will almost deliver the flavour and experience of your favourite Sub-Ohm tank and Dual Battery Mod then the VooPoo Vinci Mod will be right up your street.

Flat Cap Vaper Reivews
FlatCap Vaper

Hey Folks. Im Gaz, The Flat-cap Vaper. I’m 35, married with 3 kids and I just love Flatcap's and Vaping! I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 500,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

voopoo-vinci-reviewPod Mods are becoming a thing. Are they worthwhile? I think so. I think they bridge a gap between Traditional Pod Systems, and Sub-Ohm Kits. They may well be the next step after your starter kit. And their performance means they may just be the only device a vaper will need, once they have done their time with their starter kit. The VooPoo Vinci is an excellent option for those looking for that next step, but also a daily pocket friendly device for the long term vaper.

  1. The Vinci has the RBA available now! Knowing that would you say the Vinci is better than the RPM40? I believe with the current chipset it has a far superior vaping experience. I get way more flavor vs my RPM40 and the Vinci is handsome, it looks a million times better than the RPM40. For me the auto mode is key. Being so small these devices easily fit into pockets and lets be realistic, they can fire easily in your pockets. I’ve burned out coils on my RPM40 because of it. All of my experience between the two comes from working conditions. The RPM40 wattage becomes unlocked because the buttons push to easily. If I don’t check I’m vaping 40 watts when I’m on a 1ohm coil, yuck. The Vinci locks and the buttons are harder to unlock the device. On top of that the Gene.AI chip prevents overpowering so if it did happen it won’t go past a voltage that will burn. Y’all the Vinci is far superior in every way and the Smok coils just don’t have the same taste, which also fades super fast. The RPM40 is like buying a Toyota Corolla, it’s a good vehicle that gets from a to b (I own one). The Vinci is like upgrading to a Lexus, it’s just vastly superior in quality.

  2. Concerning te ‘leaking’, did you tried to push the coil till you hear a click?
I got this leaking with 3 of my Vinci, then i found the solution.
Best way is to lubricate a new coil at the base O-rings and then firmly press till you hear or feel the clicking sound.
Sins then non of them leaks again.
Hope it could help someone 😉

  3. when i rotate the pod to voopoo sticker it spit back and my mouth is filled by juice.but when i rotate to the juice dripping side,it dosent spit back.and on that side i didnt get the auto mode even it is on.plz.can anyone tell me what is the solution?or it is for the coil?i am using 0.8 mtl coil and a 35mg 50/50 salt nic.thanks.

    • You are using the wrong coil. Use the 1.0 coil. Set the power to 10 or 8 watts. You will enjoy a good MTL with salt nic. The 0.8 is a bad coil and Voopoo don’t use it in their newer Vinci X
