The Wotofo Profile RDA 1.5 has me thinking if it ain’t broke don’t fix it – or has the upgraded version managed to improve on perfection?

Well this update is something I wasn’t expecting – but I’m also not surprised!

Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA

I personally think Wotofo has been very hit and miss of late.

The Dyadic Dual 18650 Squonk mod was a bit of a let down considering it was designed by Tony B, but I still made use of it for this review.

Then the STNG MTL RDA was a hit in my eyes and ideal for a Mouth-To-Lung vaper looking to make use of an RDA.

The original Profile RDA by Wotofo and designed by #Mr.JustRight1 was, and still is a top RDA.

And it led to the creation of the Profile Unity RTA, along with a number of manufacturers rushing around like busy worker bees, trying to replicate the design without being a blatant copy.

Why?

Clever Ceramic Block

Because the Profile was revolutionary and solved a huge issue with using mesh in a Rebuild-able Dripping Atomiser

Dry Hits!

The spring-loaded ceramic block allowed the cotton to stay pressed against the whole surface area of the mesh strip meaning it limited the chances of getting a dry hit.

juiced dripper

Trust me, a dry hit on mesh is like inhaling Satan!

I was fortunate enough to try the Titanium edition of the Profile RDA.

Exactly the same as the original, but made out of Titanium, as a commemorative edition to celebrate the success of the Profile.

So let’s crack on and see what the Profile 1.5 RDA by Wotofo is all about.

So whats been improved, or changed from the original?

Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA deck

Original on left – V1.5 on right.

From the outside the only clear difference is the airflow holes, which in the original version, featured 19 small holes on either side in a honeycomb style.

This time round, the Profile 1.5 features 2 distinct rows of 5 larger holes on each side and a lot more adjustable, allowing you to make use of any amount of lower airflow holes, and for even more airflow, you an open up the top row of holes.

However you cant have the top section airflow open, and the lower set closed.

Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA

Barrel removed from the Profile 1.5 and in essence, nothing has drastically changed.

However the deck itself is bigger, and it does have a deeper juice-well.

The clamps have been widened, 1.4 times wider apparently and the ceramic block has changed from a centre curve, to a ridged platform – which Wotofo claim helps with better juice distribution when squonking.

Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA wider deck

And personally, seeing as its more of a flat platform, I believe this may help with pressing the cotton firmer onto the mesh strip.

Design and Build Quality

The Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA Drip Tips

The usual thick 810 drip tip is used with the Profile v1.5, and to be honest, I’m not a fan.

Wotofo claim the thicker drip tip helps with flavour but I genuinely taste no improvement over a standard 810.

drip tips

But the kit does come with 2 drip-tips, the second 810 in the bag is much lower in height, and also has a beveled top end, which is comfortable but it feels a little too short leaving your lips touching the top-cap.

The Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA Barrel

As previously mentioned, the airflow style allows for more adjust ability.

Your airflow options allow for full adjustment of the bottom airflow only, or you can add the second top row for even more airflow.

profile 1.5 barrel

Unfortunately you cant have just the top row open – which I think is a bit of a shame, especially for those heavy squonkers.

The Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA Deck

The style follows the original blueprint, but with the v1.5, its a larger diameter deck, deeper juice well and the clamp style itself is wider meaning the Mesh strips you install are wider.

Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA deck size

Along with that, the ceramic block is now flat and ridged.

The Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA Base

At the base is the usual gumph – I wish they’d added a serial number – it’s always nice to know.

Or is that just me?

Tolerances

Once you’re using the RDA regularly, the tolerances are perfect. Everything adjusts beautifully.

When you first start using it, you may feel the airflow adjustment is tight, but once e-liquid and heat has worked its magic, you’ll experience no problems.

The nexMESH Strips

If you haven’t heard, Wotofo now own OFRF which means they’ve inherited the nexMESH strips which became extremely popular with Profile RDA owners.

Of course Wotofo have now put their spin on things and created 3 different styles which are supposedly designed for different vaping styles and give the user a differing experience.

We’ll see about that…

mesh rda

The new nexMESH strips, unfortunately, are not compatible with the original Profile RDA, or the Profile Unity RTA as the strips are 1.4 times wider.

A shame but I suppose its a way to get people to pick up the Profile 1.5.

Hmmm…

How Does The Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA Perform?

Build Tutorial

If you’re familiar with the original Profile, in essence building on the new version is exactly the same.

You can also build using a traditional round wire coil, however the Profile v1.5 really is meant for Mesh Strips, and in my experience, its almost pointless putting a traditional coil in this RDA, unless you get desperate.

Mesh Build

  • Loosen off the 2 Phillips head screws on either side of the deck
  • Using the Mesh forming tool, gently bend the mesh strip around the THICKER end of the mesh forming tool.
  • Gently place the Mesh between the 2 clamps, and tighten down the screws, ensuring the strip is not pressed flat, and also ensuring its level and even.

Wicking the Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA

The kit comes with 3 6mm cotton ‘Shoe-lace’ style strips.

The very thick strips make it simple to wick, however if you’re stuck, 3 strips of Firebolt 3mm or something similar will do the job – Just a tip.

Once your cotton is in place, use the same style of cotton trimming used on the original profile, with the cotton cut at an angle it means you’re allowing juice to flow better, especially when squonking.

wicking rda

  • Tuck the cotton into the juice wells, then go to work saturating the cotton. I fully recommend saturating the cotton before you start to rely on squonking.

dripping juice rda

Squonking

Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA squonk

The Profile is made for squonking, the squonk pin is pre-installed but you do get a standard 510 pin in the packaging. B

Squonking is a very trustworthy way to ensure the e-liquid is saturating the cotton right in the middle, as apposed to dripping on top of the mesh and only covering the top of the cotton.

Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA Flavour and Clouds

During my testing, I’ve been vaping on my all day, every day e-liquid – Code Red by Darkstar.

Why?

As previously mentioned, I’m a huge fan of the Profile RDA and I use it extremely often, along with Code Red.

So I felt this e-liquid would be the best option to truly see how the V1.5 performs compared to the original Profile, and to see if there really is much difference?

nexMESH Chill 0.15Ω Flavour

Covering the least amount of surface area, and looking extremely similar to the original Wotofo Mesh strips, if not the same.

The flavour from the Chill Mesh is the same as what I have experienced with the original 0.18Ω Wotofo Strips at 55w.

Average to good.

Not mind blowing, but a decent vape.

flavour rda
At 65w with the airflow set to bottom row fully open, top row closed, you get a ever so slightly restrictive, slightly warm vape.

nexMESH Turbo 0.13Ω Flavour

The Turbo Mesh is much more like the OFRF 0.13Ω Strips that really made a difference to the original Profile.

Covering more surface area, the flavour you get from the Turbo Mesh is excellent.

mesh good flavour rda

At 65w, with the airflow set to top row half open, bottom row fully open.

You experience a luke warm vape, dense cloud and all the nuances of the flavour.

An excellent vape.

nexMESH Extreme 0.16Ω Flavour

The Extreme Mesh is a style of mesh strip I haven’t seen before.

Its an extremely tightly knit mesh that you struggle to see any gaps between.

When forming the strip using the forming tool, it almost springs back slightly – like it has a memory!

mesh rda strip

Vaping at 75w with the airflow half open on top and fully open at the bottom.

The flavour is comparable to the Turbo Mesh, but ever so slightly better.

The vape is also slightly warmer which is spot on for me.

Wotofo Profile 1.5 RDA Clouds

Regardless of which strip best suits you, the vapour production from the Profile V1.5 is insane.

A thick dense cloud that can fill a room in minutes.

rda components

I’d say the clouds from the Extreme Mesh is slightly thicker but its hard to gauge.

But then I was vaping the Extreme Mesh at a higher wattage to really put it through its paces and bring out even more flavour, if possible.

Pros

  • Excellent flavour with Turbo or Extreme Mesh
  • Simple to Build on
  • A cloud chucker
  • Less chance of dry hit than Original Profile

Cons

  • Not the easiest to wick
  • Drip-Tip too thick for me
  • Not a warm vape (May be a con to some)
  • No option for top airflow only

Final Review Verdict

So is the Profile RDA v1.5 better than the original?

Yes and No!

The improvements are so minor, I really wouldn’t rush out tomorrow to pick up the v1.5, if you already own the original Profile.

Longer term, I would imagine you may have no option, manufacturing of the original profile may stop, if it hasn’t already, and the same applies to the mesh strips – so you may not have an option.

The improvements are minimal, but noticeable.

The deeper juice well allows for more time between dripping/squonking, but you have a larger mesh area to saturate so you’ll actually notice more of a drain in your e-liquid consumption.

The ceramic block style may be better for juice distribution when squonking but I really haven’t noticed much difference.

As experienced I am with wicking the original Profile RDA, I have had the odd slightly burnt taste at times.

This was usually repaired by either re-wicking, or just altering the cotton slightly to better cover the complete area of the Mesh Strip.

With the v1.5, I haven’t had to make that adjustment, not once.

So that’s an improvement than I’m pleased to see it works.

The real improvement for me, is with the Extreme Mesh Strip.

It’s managed to improve the flavour even more so than the OFRF strips did with the original profile, with a slightly warmer vape, which may be a bonus for some.

I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 500,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

wotofo-profile-1-5-rda-reviewNot an upgrade, just an update. The Profile RDA v1.5 is simply that, its an updated version that doesn't necessarily do anything miles better than the original Profile. But all the changes do make a slight difference. The real winner is the new Extreme Mesh Strip.
