On the back of the success of the Profile RDA, we now have the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA.Profile unity RTA Close up

Wotofo has decided to re-collaborate with #MrJustRight1 and added The Vapor Chronicles to the team as well as bringing OFRF along to the party for their nexMesh strips which generally have heralded more praise than the self-branded Wotofo mesh strips. Quite a collaboration!

Can the sequel be as good as the original? Lets See…

This Kit was sent to me for the purpose of review from Wotofo.com, thankyou. All views and opinions are solely those of my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of others..

Unique Features

Forget the bubble glass, the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA can bump up its capacity to 5ml without losing its slender looks by way of a taller glass tube and glass extender, once it’s all put together you don’t even notice the joining piece.Colour options profile unity

The build deck is what makes this RTA so unique, they’re not ‘Posts’ as such, but clamps, and the 2 clamps help hold that beautifully formed mesh in place. But of course you can always use a regular coil buikd if that’s more your cup of tea.

Design and Build Quality

Everything fits and feels very nice and snug, be warned the threading may feel a little stiff at first, but once you’ve spilt juice everywhere (and you will) the Profile Unity RTA goes together beautifully and over time those threads are a dream to work with.wotofo profile Unity Complete Tank

The paint quality is good and if dropped, I’m confident it would do more damage to my foot, than my foot would do to the RTA.

Exploded view of the profile unity rtaThere are quite a lot of parts to this RTA, especially once you include the glass extender, but all the tolerances are excellent and the O-Rings fit nice and snug.Wotofo Profile unity rta Exploded view

With a mesh strip installed, the cotton is fed from under the mesh and gently pushed up onto the mesh by way of a clever spring-loaded cotton support system.

How Does the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA Perform?

To find out how well the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA performs, its first time to read the manual, which does an excellent job of showing the best way to wick this RTA. I haven’t mentioned this until now, but if you get this wicking wrong, it’s not just a minor issue… It’s a disaster!

Here’s a step by step guide on how to set this RTA up correctly in what I call ‘Mesh Mode’

Step 1 – Form the nexMESH

So once you’ve taken the RTA apart, the first thing to do is form a strip of the nexMESH using the provided forming tool, make sure to form the strip over the wider part of the tool, not the skinnier end.Forming the Nexmesh

Be sure to try and form the strip straight which will leave you with a nice uniformed strip.

It’s not too difficult to form the strip at an angle and end up with a slight kink in the mesh.

Step 2 – Clamp the Mesh in Place

Now simply pop each end of the mesh into the clamps and screw the mesh in place.Fitting the Nexmesh on the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA

Give the mesh one very quick pulse on your desired Mod to burn off any residue and to ensure the mesh strip is reading the correct resistance and isn’t damaged.

Step 3 – Wicking

Now that the easy part is done, it’s time for the wicking, the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA comes with 2 cotton strips, which are big 6mm beefy strips, but I strongly suggest you pick up an extra pack of cotton when you buy this RTA.. Just in case.

But fitting the cotton into place is simple enough, you may want to use a small tool to hold the spring loaded support down, which helps with sliding the cotton through. How to wick the profile unity rta step 1

Once your cotton is in place, it’s time for a major haircut, be sure to have a glance at the manual. What you’re aiming for is what I call ‘Angel Wings’ wicking.wicking tips for wotofo profile unity rta

As you can see from the images, the lower sections of the cotton are formed down into the juice wells, whilst the top sections are either trimmed or gentle tweezed into place to form your 2 wings.

How to Wick the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA step 2Be sure not to pack too much cotton into the juice wells, you want enough cotton there to stop the juice from flooding the build deck, but not too much that it creates a dam which can cause a blockage.

Wicking the Profile Unity RTA - step 3This will take you down a very dry, burnt path. Just be sure that you can slide a small screwdriver through the juice well rim, without having to force it too much.wotofo profile unity rta build gap

Painting Those Wicks

Before soaking what feels like 10ml into the cotton, I strongly suggest you attempt to place the deck into the tank section and see if it goes together nicely without damaging or moving the cotton too much – Be sure to remove the build deck from whatever mod or stand you’ve been building on, as it won’t thread with the tank section whilst on the mod…

Which is a bit of a pain.

If it feels like you’re forcing the deck onto the tank section, give the cotton a further trim, but hopefully it feels good, in which case its time to juice up the cotton and you can should take this opportunity to further form the vape cotton into the juice-well.paint wicks on profile unity rta

Once complete, you can screw the whole thing together and fill the tank up with whichever liquid you desire, which is simple enough even though the 2 large filing slots are pretty narrow…How to fill the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA

Be sure to keep your eyes on the airflow slots at this point.. If the juice wells aren’t correctly covered with cotton, the e-liquid will quite literally pour out of the slots until the tank is empty.

If all goes well, you’ll end up with a mesh RTA which will quite comfortably wick no matter what you throw at it… But unfortunately, it’s still unpredictable. But I’ll touch more on that subject in a while.

Flavour & Vapour

I tried both the Wotofo branded 6mm cotton, and also my favoured Cotton Bacon which works extremely well with this RTA, and I was impressed with the flavour, however it didn’t take my breath away.

But the vapour from this RTA is like nothing else (apart from a Mechanical Mod with 8.4v running through it).

The vapour is thick, dense and at 65w with the airflow open on 4 out of the 5 holes, it delivers an instant (thanks to the mesh) an ever so slightly warm vape which is a joy. The 810 drip tip in my opinion is a little too thick, and I quickly swapped it out for one of my wider bore drip tips. But it does the job nonetheless.

Even when wicked correctly, there is still some doubt, which makes this RTA uncomfortable. Let me explain….

During my time with the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA, I’ve built and re-wicked 15 times in 10 days – why? Because if I stopped at my 4th build, I wouldn’t be doing this review. And in an attempt to get the wicking correctly 3 times in a row, I had to do a total of 12 builds, before I started my run of perfection.

Now it may just be me, but it’s been a tricky thing to get right, the wicking has to be spot on. If you’ve wicked this incorrectly, your tank either drops all its liquid through the airflow slots or you’re welcomed with the harshest of dry hits you could imagine.

Disassembling the tank to adjust your wicking is a painful, messy procedure and unfortunately it’s inevitable that you’re going to have to do this a few times if you’re not an expert in the wicking department.

Even now, after 15 builds, I still feel doubt in my mind with every vape. Which is just such a shame because the RTA does perform brilliantly, and the flavour is very good. It just takes a lot of effort to get there

Pros

  • Mesh strips fire instantly
  • Deep, thick vapour
  • Good flavour
  • Large simple build deck
  • Excellent airflow

Cons

  • Wicking

Final Review Verdict

I can’t deny that when done right, the Wotofo Profile Unity RTA is an excellent tank.

The mesh fires in an instant, and the flavour and vapour production is top notch thanks to the smooth airflow and OFRF nexMESH strips.

But with all the time and effort you have to put into wicking, unfortunately the pay-off at the end just isn’t that good. With a number of other highly anticipated RTA’s entering the market, I’m afraid I’d rather spend my hard earned cash on one of the competitors than this.

However, I am still going to pick up the RDA version of the Profile, as I believe the original, will be much better than the sequel.

Hey Folks. Im Gaz, The Flat-cap Vaper. I’m 35, married with 3 kids and I just love Flatcap's and Vaping! I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 500,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

wotofo-profile-unity-rta-reviewIf you’re after a build deck designed for Mesh strips.. I strongly suggest picking up the Wotofo Profile RDA and giving it a good shot, before you delve into the tank version. It really is a painful RTA to wick in ‘Mesh Mode’ and at least with the RDA it’s a little more forgiving and easier to adjust should you get the wicking wrong.

  1. I got this the other day and nailed the wicking first time and I am useless at wicking rtas which is why I have always gone back to my sub ohm tanks. You just have to have the wick nice and fluffy and make sure you cover the upper juice feed holes as well as the main wick slots, as there are two more juice feed holes on both sides. I am getting the best flavour I have ever had out of this than I ever got out of my 30+ sub ohm tanks and rtas.
    10/10 for me this one.
