In for review is the Wismec Reuleaux RX G vape mod.rxg mod banner

If you’re a seasoned vaper then it’s most likely you have either heard of or have owned a Wismec Reuleaux device in the past few years. Personally I haven’t! But I know one or two people who still use their Reuleaux mods every day.

There have been a few variants of the Reuleaux device over the years but Wismec have been quiet for a while, until now!

The new RX G variant is by no means similar to any of their previous Reuleaux releases, but it certainly has a few interesting or perhaps eye brow raising features.

Let’s crack on and try out the Wismec Reuleaux RX G device!

What Can We Expect From The Wismec Reuleaux RX G?

At a glance, the RX G screams nothing but crazy angles and looks like it was designed in the year 2121 not 2021.

The RX G is a compact single 18650 mod which can fire up to a serious 100 watts, it has an unusual spring loaded trigger style fire button along with multiple LED lights which glow when firing.

I received the Beast variant of the RX G which includes a gorilla style design and some funky angular mirrored panels.

There are 3 colours to choose from: Mecha, Cyberspace and Beast.

Design and Build Quality

The RX G won’t be everyone’s cup of tea. Its footprint is quite small but its looks are certainly unusual.rxg mod components

In The Hand

The RX G device is a fairly comfortable device to hold and use day to day. Mainly enjoyed as a thumb firer with your fingers wrapped around the tubular shaped end of the device.

There is no leather or plastic protection which can usually contribute to the grip of a device, but instead the criss-cross framework and unusual angles help with grip.

The device itself has a nice weight to it, feels solid in the hand and as long as you’re not unfortunate enough to drop the device so it lands somewhere on the fire trigger, I’m pretty sure this device will last very well and even cope with the odd drop.

510 connector

The top of the device is slightly raised from the device, meaning anything over 25mm will over-hang. However for this style of device that should be plenty for your favourite tank or RDA.

The 510 pin itself is spring mounted and has a fairly long throw to it.

Buttons

The trigger style spring loaded fire button is actually pretty cool and sits separate to the device, holding on by a top-mounted lever.

Slightly lower than the fire trigger/button is a locking switch with a nice amount of knurl to click between locked and unlocked. Locking this switch will stop any of the buttons from operating.

Looking a little closer, the locking switch makes a tiny slider sit behind the fire button, meaning you can’t press it and fire the device. Clever, and also feels like quite a solid locking method.

Hidden to one side of the device is effectively what you would call your Up and down buttons.rxg controls

The single reflective/mirrored panel is flush with the device but just large enough to press with your thumb. Ideally I would have preferred if this panel was slightly raised from the device, but it still works fine once you figure it out.

Display

The 0.96 colour display is fairly bright, but not super bright, however it’s quite a clear screen considering there is quite a bit of information on the front screen.

Scrolling through the menus is also clear and bright enough to navigate, even in bright outdoor conditions.

Below the display is the USB-C port for charging and firmware upgrades. Wismec claim the device can charge at a 2 amp rating.

Base

The battery door is a simple push and slide to lock style and locks the battery nicely into place. There is also a small amount of battery venting should the worst happen.

Installing and removing the battery is easy enough, however a few times (depending on the battery wrap width) the whole battery tube has also came out, with the battery still inside the tube!

Something I didn’t even notice until I used a certain brand of battery. So yeah – the battery tube is removable and replaceable I suppose. But no, unfortunately removing the battery tube doesn’t mean you could use a larger 20700 or 21700 battery.

Externals

There’s quite a bit to mention with the overall externals of the RX G device.

Let’s start with the LED’s. On either side of the device there are the ‘Wismec’ brand and ‘RXG’ which are both hidden behind mirrored panels, until your fire the device. Of course you can change the colour of the text in the menu options but they actually glow very brightly when firing and really stand out.

The battery tube also has an.. Interesting design. Of course the different colour variants of the device will have a different design. However the black variant comes, with a Smoking Gorilla design.

Don’t get me wrong, I love stuff that lights up with bright LED’s, I love LED’s and lighting stuff up. Hey I’m an electrician! And I actually think this is quite a clever feature on the RX G.

But a Smoking Gorilla! Really? And this Gorilla isn’t just smoking a regular sized cigarette. No! He’s smoking a Giant one!

Rant over – Once you get past the madness of the LED’s and all the crazy angles along with the mirrored panels, it’s actually a very cool looking device. The Red and Amber coloured one for example looks like something out of an Iron Man movie!

One minor observation, and this may just be me but there is also a white printed ‘Wismec’ and ‘RXG’ design printed on either side of the device, but the RXG print, looks to me like it’s printed upside down? Let me know what you think?

Basic Operation

There are a few options on the RX G so here’s the basics:

  • Device On/Off – 5 clicks of Fire Button
  • Down button – Wattage Down
  • Up button – Wattage Up
  • Fire button three clicks – Locks adjustment buttons. Will Still fire.
  • Press & Hold up/down Button – Enters Menu

How Does The Wismex Reuleaux RX G Mod Perform?

I’ve used the Reuleaux RX G device with a number of different atomisers to get an idea of who this device is suited to. And to be perfectly honest I’m still a little perplexed. I’ll try and explain why.

Looking at the specification, without seeing the device, you would probably assume this is ideal for either some form of MTL setup, or perhaps a higher resistance Sub-Ohm coil. Mainly due to the fact this is a single 18650 device.

However, and this is a big however. When you see the device, I’m pretty sure the majority of seasoned MTL vapers will probably go back to their Aspire device to better match their respectable image.

So with this device lighting up brighter than an 18 years old Peugeot 206, it would be assumed the device is better suited to a younger vaper. However the majority of younger vapers are more likely to be vaping on tank and rebuildables that require high power. With the RX G being an 18650 device, even with its high 100w output, I’m not quite sure the RX G will cut the mustard.

Now I don’t consider myself a ‘respectable MTL Vaper’ nor do I consider myself a ‘Younger vaper’ and fortunately for me. I found a happy medium.

Sticking a 24mm or 25mm RDA with a single coil, that comfortably vapes at around 60-70 watts I found I got a good balance of battery life and decent power output.

I have a bit of a problem with any single 18650 device which offers 100 watts. It’s just not practical, nor is it likely to fire at 100 watts for very long, if at all.

Nonetheless, when it comes to power output, the RX G does a decent job and to me doesn’t seem under-powered, in fact it keeps up very well.

Can the Wismec Reuleaux RX G Be Practical?

The RX G is practical enough for someone who requires low power and something which is fairly pocket friendly. Perhaps also for someone who requires LED’s to be seen in the dark? Because the LED’s are pretty darn bright on this device!

Should you require excellent battery life that can easily last a full day, then you may have to consider what power output you require before picking this device up.

Pros

  • Funky looks make this device stand out
  • LED’s aren’t for everyone. But I like it!
  • Display and functions are simple and clear
  • Power output is good
  • Can house a 25mm atomiser before over hang

Cons

  • Unusual style not for everyone
  • Single 18650 with 100W output is a no for me
  • A Smoking Gorilla! Really!?

What Could Be Improved?

I’m really torn with the RX G, for a number of reasons. I suppose it’s a little like when you have a favourite movie, and then the sequel is a complete flop.

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think the RX G is a flop.

But it’s just not as good as the previous Reuleaux devices. I really think it could have been named something completely different and then it wouldn’t have been linked to its predecessors.

Personally, if the RX G was a Dual 18650 or single 21700 device, I would probably have rated this a lot higher and certainly added it into my regular daily rotation. But the fact this is a single 18650 just puts me off.

Final Review Verdict

Overall I actually struggle not to like the RX G device.

More because it appeals to my techy geek 18 year old self with its flashy LED’s and cool angles. The trigger style fire button is also a pretty cool look.

There are obviously some items I feel could be improved, ideally this should be a 21700 device and certainly ditch the smoking Ape. But apart from that it’s actually a well-made, funky bit of kit!

I guess it’s the fact this this device is just DIFFERENT that makes me like it. Different isn’t always bad, but sometimes different is just pointless.

The RX G isn’t a pointless device, it’s just different.

Hey Folks. Im Gaz, The Flat-cap Vaper. I’m 35, married with 3 kids and I just love Flatcap's and Vaping! I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 500,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

wismec-reuleaux-rx-g-mod-reviewThe Wismec RX-G surprisingly to even me, scores quite highly across the board. Its simple, if you don't like the look of this mad mod, you won't buy it. But if you like this design, I'm pretty confident you'll enjoy it more in the flesh than you may do in photos. A Dual battery model or a 21700 would however make this so much better for me personally. Bring it on Wismec!
