Thanks To Vaping She’s Now A Rebel With A Passionate Cause!
She’s incredibly artistic, sassy, sexy and hails from South Africa…it is, of course, Laura-ann Burgess one of the most enthusiastic vapers you’re ever likely to meet.
This is the third interview in our meet the EcigClick team, and definitely the most colourful – and not just the hair lol – this young lady rocks and then some!
We chat about her early years when it’s fair to say, she was a bit of a handful, a mix of a little minx and a rebel all wrapped up in one lol.
Wait for it…she started smoking at 7-years-old!!! Beats me by a couple of years!
We find out about her true passion for vaping, and why her hard-hitting 100% honest reviews come from the debt she says she owes to all things vape…it literally saved her life and now she’s totally dedicated to helping others make the switch.
Sorry boys, she’s taken herself off the dating scene for a while to concentrate on her career as a freelance copywriter, vape reviewer and her other passion [apart from Blue her dog, come love of her life] as an incredible sculptress…trust me those sculptures are quite simply amazing.
She is a young woman going places for sure and has artistic talent oozing out of every pore…as I once said…oh to be 30-years younger and 3,000 miles closer lol…
OK, the scene is set…so let’s find out what makes our Laura-ann tick…and why she has plans in place to become a vaping outlaw…
First up a little about yourself – how old are you – are you married – single – looking – kids?
Well, hellooooo!!! I’m a 36 year old South African, born in Namibia.
I love dogs (particularly my husband/dog, who is called Blue), cats, aliens, tattoos, sculpting, vaping, my job and aubergines.
I am extremely single and recently decided that I would actually like to stay that way, I’m very focused on my work and the art that I do and just don’t feel the urge, to be fair…plus, I’m already betrothed to my Australian Cattle Dog, BLUE.
No motherly instincts here, except where my fur babies and plants are concerned.
I am officially always covered in dog hairs, so I pretty much can’t leave the house.
What’s your current job?
I’m happily self-employed as a freelance copywriter and editor, I work from home over the Upwork platform and I have the freedom to be strange!
I love my job!!!
When did you start smoking and how long did you smoke?
OMG, I smoked my first fag at the age of 7 (rebellious much?) and started smoking in the house when I was 12, since my mother couldn’t stop me from doing my thang!!
I think I started vaping 6 years ago, I’ve got no sense of time!!!
So that is basically 18 years of full-blown smoking.
Really shitty indeed.
When and why did you decide to quit and was vaping your first choice?
D’you know what…it was really a matter of health for me, I felt guilty as I could feel the terrible state my lungs were in.
I couldn’t run or swim 10 metres without wheezing and I felt like my insides were charred to oblivion… and I tried very hard to quit but I just got too agitated when I went without my smokes…vaping made it possible for me.
The first time I ever vaped was about a year before I quit smoking but it was such a shitty product that it put me right off vaping…it was a little locally made cigalike.
Then, a year later I read about sub-ohm tanks and decided to try again…it actually came as a surprise, as once I got my first sub-ohm tank I never looked back and never craved smellies again.
What was your first vape kit and nic strength juice?
I had the Smoktech Alien 220W with the Baby Beast Tank, I vaped a 3mg juice.
How long did you MTL before moving to DTL?
I never MTLed….not until I started doing it for reviews.
What was the first rebuildable you used and did you find building easy?
It’s a bit hard to remember for sure but I think it was either the Tsunami RDA, the original one.
I found it easy and seriously enjoyed it but the first buildable that really rocked my world was the iJoy combo RDTA, one of my all-time favourites.
How did you get into reviewing and why?
An absolute passion and love for vaping, for saving my health and my life.
In the context of vaping got into electronics and learned things I just didn’t grasp before.
I’m ever grateful to vaping for the positive impact it has had on my life and any way that I can ensure that others have a positive vaping experience is the least I can do.
Vaping saves lives.
What’s the worst and best item you’ve reviewed?
The worst item I’ve ever reviewed was the Wismec Exoskeleton, because that bastard exploded on my desk.
I have many favourites!!!!
The best item…I loved the Smoant Charon TS to absolute bits, literally…since it’s unfortunately no longer in usable order, it got driven over.
Another favourite is the Ohm Boy rage Squonker. I’m currently reviewing the Bulk RDTA by Oumier, which may be a strong contender for the win.
Otherwise, among my favourites, the iJoy Combo RDTA and the Geekvape Loop V1.2.
What would you really like to review and why?
I would have loved to review the Vaporesso Luxe Kit…I met someone who had it and was blown away by its look, feel and vape quality and would just love to put it through the motions properly.
I’d also like to try the Orchid IQS Pod, as well as the Squid Industries Double Barrel V3 coz they both look bloody slick!
What’s your go-to vape set-up right now?
Currently the Sigelei top1 and the Oumier Bulk.
What are your thoughts on the UK vape review scene?
The UK has embraced vaping in a way that is honest, positive and inspiring.
With the backing of your government, the industry in UK can grow as it should be growing elsewhere, saving the lives of smokers as it does.
I believe reviews are incredibly important, in an industry where faulty products can be very hazardous and people need to know what they’re spending their cash on, since vapes can be quite pricey.
Any plans to start reviewing on YouTube – if not why not?
I’ve made a few video reviews in my time but it is a lot more work and far more time consuming than viewers generally imagine and between written reviews and my job, it’s just difficult to fit in a focused video review campaign…as much as I would like to.
What’s the future for vaping in general?
I believe the future in the UK is bright but I can’t say the same for places like the US where tobacco mongrels hold so much sway and propaganda and sensationalism is still terribly rife.
All I know is that people who make the change to vaping never look back as far as their health and quality of life is concerned…so, if vaping ever becomes illegal, I’m going to be a total outlaw.
Where can people find you on social media?
You can follow my excessive hair colour changes, sculpting, doggy and vape life on Instagram.
Anything else you’d like to add!
I’ve experienced a lot of negativity toward my vaping habit lately, with people in public settings smugly blowing smoking in my face and telling me that my vape clouds are offensive and smell gay.
All I’ve got to say is, ignorance is not bliss when yr 6 feet under.
Stick to your guns, vapers and do what’s right for your health and your loved ones.
On behalf of myself and Jonny I’d like to thank Laura-ann so much for taking part in this interview.
I wasn’t joking when I said she’s a natural born rebel in the truest sense of the word – she really does rock!
Whilst I read all the reviews – obviously lol – I do look out for Laura-ann’s she has a wicked turn of phrase and a wonderful writing style…
So thanks again LA I really enjoyed that one…and absolutely loving your Instagram Page
…I was going to say apart from the strategically placed bubbles…but I won’t…oooo slap my wrist 😛
Stay tuned – we’ll have another meet the EcigClick team interview very soon!
