SMY have teamed up with popular YouTube reviewer DJSLB Vapes to release the SMY SDNA75.

This is a small unit featuring one of the newest and most advanced chip-sets on the market, the Evolv DNA75. SMY have packed this into a Zinc Alloy body packing plenty of style and form factor too, not to mention a feature rich device that can be finely customized!SMY SDNA75 mod review

One of the most interesting features with the DNA75 chip-set is that it features Escribe software, which made it’s debut with the DNA200 chip.

Escribe software allows you to customize the temperature control settings of your chip through your home computer, and also allows for you to configure and modify many different settings present within the chip.

The SMY SDNA75 is one of the first widely available DNA75 units to hit the market, so let’s see what it has to offer!

Design and Build Quality

The SMY SDNA75 is one of the most robustly constructed devices I have come across.SMY SDNA75 mod reviewed

It is constructed of solid Zinc Alloy, and there are a number of different colored finishes available for it too. Buy SMY SDNA75 Mod

In hand, the gun handle style fits in the palm of the hand perfectly and even with a battery inserted, it doesn’t feel heavy.SMY SDNA75 mod in hand

The SDNA75 has a real quality, premium finish, and it has been pretty scratch resistant so far with everyday usage. It’s not too big and not too small either, and width wise it is perfect for 22mm width atomizers, with no overhang present.SMY SDNA75 aspire cleito tank

There is a copper spring loaded 510 connector which allows for a flush fit for your atomizer, however there were a couple of instances where I used an atomizer with a short pin and there seemed to be a bit of a wobble.

This was a rare instance however, as pretty much everything I tried on there fit flush.SMY SDNA75 TC thread

The SMY SDNA75 takes a single 18650 battery (not included), and the battery compartment is accessed by removing a magnetic battery door panel.

The magnets are strong and hold the door firmly in place, and you need to insert your 18650 battery positive side down. There is a battery ribbon in place as the contacts can provide a bit of a tight fit.SMY SDNA75 18650 Battery slot

Please do ensure you use a high drain battery capable of handling a minimum of 25A continuous! USB charging is supported via the USB port at the front of the mod.

On the front face of the mod there is a large polymer firing button, that also features a back-lit LED, and a polymer plus and minus button.SMY SDNA75 mod OLED Display

Underneath the power button is a large OLED screen that displays information clearly. As standard this will display the power output, resistance, battery life in percentage, a battery life bar and voltage output when firing.SMY SDNA75 box Mod

The great thing about the Escribe software being included is that you can customize the information displayed on the OLED screen, as well as the boot up screen too!

To do this, simply plug your device into your home computer using the supplied USB cable.

How Does The SMY SDNA75 Perform?

The SMY SDNA75 offers a large wattage range of 1-75w, and it is able to fire resistances down to 0.08ohms in both temperature control and wattage mode, making it perfect for the most popular sub ohm tanks out there.SMY SDNA75 evolv chipset

Out of the box, it offers temperature control support for Ni200, Titanium and Stainless Steel, and the temperature control presets are customized by DJSLB Vapes himself, you can access these by carrying out the following:

  • First locking the unit with three clicks of the power button
  • Then pressing the plus or minus buttons continuously to cycle through the preset settings.

Escribe

Escribe SDNA SoftwareThese preset settings can be customized via Escribe, to take advantage of this you simply hook up your SMY SDNA75 to your home computer with the supplied USB cable, download the latest version of Escribe, and a whole world of customization is opened up to you.

You can change the preheat setting when in temperature control mode for instance, adjusting the slider from 1-200w to adjust how slowly or quickly your coils ramp up in temperature control mode.

You have the ability to adjust and load your own favorite preset settings onto your mod, ready to access on the move.

There is also the ability to customize the information present on the screen of the unit, as well as the start up and boot screens!

There really is an awful lot you can do with this excellent chip. Although, you don’t need to use Escribe if you wish to use the mod out of the box, as it is set up for you and ready to go.

Battery Life

The SMY SDNA75 requires a single high drain 18650 battery to use, which does quite limit battery life. The DNA75 chip is quite power hungry, and I did find that I needed to change my batteries at least twice a day when using this unit heavily.SMY SDNA75 tc Vape Mod

Battery life at 50w and over is severely limited, which means this isn’t ideal for out and about usage if you vape at that kind of wattage regularly.

What I liked

The gun handle shape is ideal when it comes to form factor, and this mod is so comfortable in hand. It’s lighter than I expected it to be as well, and with the buttons easily reachable and easy to operate, I rate this mod as having one of the best form factors out there. It really is a pleasure to hold.

The DNA75 chip is outstanding. It’s powerful, accurate, and packed with features too. The Escribe software enables you to customize your mod to your own taste, and have a unit that really suits your own personal style.

Optimized settings are already pre-loaded onto the device, and these were customized by DJSLB Vapes himself.

This means that you don’t have to configure the unit beforehand through Escribe, you can simply chuck a battery in it and an atty on top, and enjoy it straight out of the box.

The magnetic battery door is excellent. This gives quick and easy access to the battery compartment, and means you can swap batteries quickly and easily. The magnets are super strong too, and hold the door to the device faultlessly.

What I Didn’t Like

The SMY SDNA75 is a single 18650 battery unit, which does limit the battery life quite considerably. When you use this heavily, you will find yourself needing to swap batteries a couple of times throughout the day or make use of the USB charging port.

I found the 510 connector to be a little on the wobbly side with a couple of atomizers I tried on it. These atomizers did have a short connector pin on them but I could physically wobble the atomizer around. There was no issue with the resistance or performance however, it just made me feel a little uneasy!

It is a pretty expensive unit, compared to a lot of other single 18650 battery TC capable 75w mods. You are paying for quality however and one of the best chips out there, so personally I would be more than happy to pay the RRP on this mod!

Final SMY SDNA75 Review Verdict

For a single battery 18650 unit, the SMY SDNA75 is one of the best options out there. It’s a rock solid device that sits perfectly in the palm of your hand, and it’s one of the most comfortable devices I’ve ever had the pleasure of holding.

Aesthetically, it’s superb, and the DNA75 chip is one of the very best out there, giving you almost endless customization opportunities.

I’m seriously impressed with this unit and it has fast become one of my favorite devices of all time.

It may be a little on the pricey side but you are paying for top quality here, the build quality is second to none and this device is sure to last you long into the future!

Vaping full time since 2012, started on cigalikes for a while then curiosity got the better of me and I moved onto an vape pens, a month or two later I was seeing people walking around with these interesting shiny tubes and I thought 'I gotta get one of those'. Before I knew it a trip down to my local B&M got me my first VW mod, an Innokin SVD, paired with an iClear 30, and I was hooked. Soon after that I was jumping to VW mods both box and tube shaped, before I then made the jump to rebuilding and thus sub ohming, with my first RDA and mech mod. These days I've come back to convenience and mainly use pods, disposables and the VOOPOO Drag H40. Most importantly I am still loving vaping!
