The SMOK Mico Kit is the latest pod creation to be released by Smok which, let’s face it, looks kinda familiar.SMOK Mico pod mod in handIt’s compact, square design is very reminiscent of the Mi Pod by Smoking Vapor. However, there are some differences which we’ll find out a little later on.

What can We Expect from the SMOK Mico Kit?

Powered by a 700 mah battery and featuring three different pods, it’s discreet and pocket friendly with an eye catching resin-esque design. I received the red version to try out but there are 7 other colour options to choose from.

I’ve been enjoying a throwback to mouth to lung (MTL) style vaping so will the Mico Kit join the other recent Smok successes or head straight for the shelf never to be vaped again?

Let’s find out!

This was sent to me by Smok for the purposes of this review – Thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are from my own testing of the device.

Key Features

Simplicity is probably the main key feature here. Fill, charge and vape, that’s it! Absolutely no messing about so the Mico Kit would be ideal for someone new to vaping.

It’s powered by an impressive 700mAh for a mod of its size and I’ve found I can get a good 4-5 hours of use from it before I’ve had to re-charge it. Even then, just about an hour and it’s back to green light and ready to go.mico pod by smok in hand

The pods are fillable with your own E-Liquid which is perfect and allows you to vape the flavours and nicotine strength you normally enjoy.

Filling the SMOK Mico POd tankI’ve been using 6mg Spearmint liquid in the regular coil and 3mg Strawberry Jam in the mesh coil as the mesh seems to work better for me with lower nicotine.

There’s also a couple of safety features including the surprisingly handy on/off switch which gives you peace of mind when sticking the Mico in your pocket. It also features an automatic cut off which kicks in if you’re ‘drawing’ on it for more than 8 seconds.

Last thing, which I suppose is a key feature for some, is the lanyard. Super easy to install and adjust and means the Mico kit is always at hand. It’s also a pretty decent quality lanyard and doesn’t look likely to fray and fall apart any time soon.

Design and Build Quality

First things first, yes the Smok Mico Kit does strongly resemble the Mi Pod. Similar shape, size and pod style means you automatically see that the two are alike.SMOK Mico pod in palm of hand

However, with the popularity of the Mi pod, you can’t really blame Smok for taking a leaf from Smoking Vapor’s book.

One thing I really love, that I think will really set this mod apart from the Mi, is the resin style design. All of the 7 colours are pretty eye catching and the colour coordinated zinc alloy housing really compliments the side panels.mico vape pod coloursThe mod itself is pretty sleek and stylish and feels like a dream in the hand. Although light, it’s not so light that it feels like it has no substance to it.

The mouthpiece on the pods themselves is also very comfortable to use.

The pods fit into the housing very easily and you can feel that there’s good tension on the little magnets holding it in place. I’ve certainly never had a pod come out of it’s own doing yet. The mouthpiece comes equipped with a little raised lip on either side which makes gripping the pod to remove and reinsert it really easy.

Another great design feature of the pods is that they state clearly which coil they house.

Smok have added a metal border around the base of the pod that has Smok on one side and either ‘Regular’ or ‘ Mesh’ on the other side making it super easy to know which is which.Mico mesh and regular coils

The resin panels have a high gloss finish and the metal housing (on my particular model) is in a beautiful metallic red which has again been been coated to make it super shiney.

The little E-Liquid viewing window definitely comes in handy for keeping an eye on when you need to top up and saves you pulling out the whole pod every time just to check.

The USB charge port is located on the base of the mod which is a little inconvenient as I’m always worried tanks on their side will leak but there’s been no leaking incidents yet.

Overall, I’m really impressed with both design and build quality on the Mico Pod. It looks good and feels great. But how does it vape?

How does the Smok Mico Kit Perform?

Filling the pods couldn’t be easier. You pop the rubber seal, turn it slightly, fill it up and away you go. How to fill the SMOK Mico podThat being said, if you’ve got particularly large fingers and short nails then you may need to employ the use of some tweezers just to get a grip on the end of the rubber stopper.

As to the actual vaping experience? I’m impressed.

1.0Ohm Regular Pod

SMOK MiCO regular pod tankI began using the regular 1.0 ohm pod with some Spearmint in 6mg (70PG/30VG) from VPZ UK, which is my go to for mouth to lung (MTL) vaping. Instantly I noticed it’s a much airier draw than what I’m used to but a couple of pulls in I found my rhythm and really started to enjoy it.

Flavour and clouds were about average, maybe slightly above average from other pod systems I’ve tried.

0.8Ohm Mesh Coil Pod

SMOK Mico Mesh Pod TankCurious, I decided to fill up the mesh 0.8 ohm coil with some 20mg nic salt liquid from the Primal Asalted range. Big mistake. Way too strong for me and a hell of a throat kick that left me coughing.

I pretty quickly emptied the pod and filled up with my go-to Strawberry Jam from The Vapours Dozen in 3mg strength (70VG/30PG) and after a few painful pulls to clear out the nic salts, I was pleasantly surprised with pretty decent flavour and a surprising amount of cloud production.

The mesh coil definitely produces a more warm and dense vaping experience.

I also had a go at direct to lung hitting this coil and it works for short pulls but I’d definitely say this is a MTL kit.

There is also a 1.4Ohm Ceramic coil pod available which we didn’t receive for review.

Draw Activated

One thing I will mention, you do need to ‘suck’ with a decent amount of force to activate the pod.

A couple of times I’ve been just a tad too gentle and the little LED hasn’t come on at all. That being said, you do get used to it pretty quickly and get into the habit of how to produce a nice vape experience.

Coil Life

As for coil life? I’ve been switching between both for a week now and neither have shown signs of decreased flavour or any hint of burning and believe me when I saw, other than charging, it’s rarely been out of my hand.

Battery life has exceeded expectations for me. I’ve been getting a solid 4-5 hours from full charge. Plus with it only taking about an hour to charge back up to full, you could easily use this for the whole day as your only mod. I’m still impressed that they’ve got a 700mAh battery into such a tiny little square.

I haven’t quite managed to experience the 8 second automatic cut off yet, I think that will take a vaper with much bigger lungs to truly test out.

Pros

  • Super simple to use
  • Gorgeous resin style design
  • Very lightweight
  • Refillable pods
  • Comes with 2 X pods
  • Choice of 3 pods
  • Pretty quick charge time
  • Decent flavour
  • Decent vapour production
  • No leaks
  • Good price

Cons

  • Filling could be fiddly for shorter nails
  • Not the tightest MTL vape
  • USB port is on the base
  • You do have to draw quite hard to activate the pod

Final Review Verdict

Although the Smok Mico Kit is another pod mod kit in an already saturated market, I think this will prove to be quite popular.

With decent flavour and vapour production you’re already onto a winner. Add into that the good battery life from such a small device and the beautiful, sleek (even though not entirely original) design and I think we might see the Mico pod rivalling the likes of the Nord, an earlier pod kit from Smok that got rave reviews.

If you’re looking for a little day to day MTL pod system then I’d highly recommend getting your hands on one of these. I’ve already planned to buy a couple of SMOK Mico kits for other people and one in another colour for myself!

Hey, I'm Simone, 30, from just outside Glasgow. I started vaping in 2016 after buying a little Aspire ETS tank and a Coolfire IV, never believing it would work but I've never smoked another cigarette since. Now I'm a like a magpie for a vape shiny and my family joke that I could be hired out as a smoke machine. My every day set up is the Loop RDA and the Paranormal DNA 250c. I'm also a big animal lover and massive fan of anything sci-fi 🙂

  1. There are two kinds one with a tuber hole in the center under pod these leak and break within a few day theres another with a pin in the center and they work fantastic only thing is I have to open the box to find out

  2. Hi, I had mine for about a month. Had a few problems but I got over them. I was using it one day, sat it down (upright) went back to it and it was sitting in a pool of eliquid. How does that even happen? Smok have been useless, finally sent them an angry email as i’ve been waiting 2 weeks to get anywhere with them. They said they dont have any in stock, but i can have the novo. Any thoughts?

  3. I had recently gotten myself a Mico and I was totally enjoying it on the first few drags with the mesh that comes with the kit, however after leaving it alone for abut half an hour, I was sucking in juice from the mouth piece, that was when I realised that my juice had leaked out from the bottom of the pod and I had to clean around the pod and the contact area where the juice had literally covered entirely! I filled it up again and this time had the pod sit on a piece of napkin and it was soaking in juice that leaked out all over again. Tried it on the regular pod as well and its the exact same issue. Has anyone encountered this and can advice?

  4. Yeah mine stopped working after 4 days. Light comes on says it ready then nothing. I bought it from the Smok online store. I think these are going to a big rage until they break. I am waiting on a replacement now from Smok. I did like it when it was working.

    • Such a shame yours has broken. Hopefully Smok replace it quickly for you and you can get back to enjoying it once again 🙂

  5. hai simone. how to get a good clean of the pod and mod? i need to suck very hard to get the light on. difrent from the 1st day i bougth it. please help me.

    • Maybe try using some cotton buds and gently dry and clean around all the contacts on the battery and on the pod itself. Hope that’s helpful

  6. This actually the best pod I have ever used compare to others that I have tried. To anyone who want a good decent pod, I would recommend this pod to everyone. The flavor and clouds are intense. I hope this helps. Thank you!

  7. Hello simone.Nice review!I wanted to ask,how long does the flavour in one full tank last?
Because i have the renova zero and the flavour finishes quickly.Hope you can reply my comment. Thankss!

    • Hey. Thanks for reading my review!
I enjoyed great flavour from the first fill up until my coil burnt out (which was two weeks plus). The mesh coil especially produces great lasting flavour. Hope that helps 🙂

  8. I have gone through 2 of these in 3 weeks. 5 days after purchasing the first one, it just stopped working. I registered the pod being in and the light said it was ready to go, but no vape came out. The vape shop I bought it at switched it out for a new one. I had it 11 days today and guess what happened?? Same thing. The lights register its on and working, but no vape comes out. It’s design and concept may be good, but when used it malfunctions and stops working. Having one do it may have just been a malfunction of that one unit. Having 2 do it in a short time is a design flaw. This needs to be fixed or there will be a lot of junk Micos.

    • Damn. I’m sorry to hear you’re having such a rough time with yours. Maybe it’s an issue with the contacts between the mod and the pod. Have you tried giving them both a good clean?

    • Yeah I’ve had both liquid types in both pods and they run just fine. I did find the nice salts a little too strong through the mesh coil though

  9. Nice review thanks Simone..I am looking for a good pod device. Will keep this in mind as I think it looks really good and seems to work well enough.

    • I would definitely consider the Mico if you’re looking for a pod kit. It’s still been in my pocket every day since it arrived!

  10. 👍👍👍👍👍. just a notice the inside the box section where is says mech coil is actually meant to be mesh coil incase anyone wasn’t sure.
