The VooPoo Drag Nano pod system is from a company that is mostly known for their Drag series.

Like every other manufacturer, it seems, Voopoo have delved into the Pod world in recent months. Including a quite bizarre fidget spinning pod system called the ROTA. But the fact I had to research their other pod systems leads me to believe that up to now, their Pod Systems just haven’t ticked all the right boxes.

What Can We Expect From The Drag Nano by Voopoo

So they’ve dipped their hand into their DRAG series bowl, mixed in a few Pod ingredients, including the use of their Gene chip and came out with the Drag Nano Pod Kit.

A draw-activated Pod system with more bling than any other pod kit I’ve laid my hands on. Whilst keeping the typical Drag style we’ve become accustomed to from the likes of the Drag 2 and Drag Mini.

With its polished chrome DRAG print on one side, fancy resin plate on the other, and a chromed out chain to match – Its fair to say VooPoo have pulled out all the stops to create possibly the most attractive Pod System you can get your hands on.

If you’re into that kinda thing. And oh boy I’ve loved photographing this thing.

So what’s so special about the Voopoo Drag Nano Pod Kit? Is it one of the best pod vapes available? Let’s Crack On and find out!

This Kit was sent to me for the purpose of review. All views and opinions are solely those of my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of others.

Design and Build Quality

Well it looks like a larger version of the old Playstation 1 memory cards, remember those?

And it feels the same, only with a more weighty feel, and super smooth and shiny!

I’m really impressed with the build quality of the battery section, but not the replacement pod, which I will talk about shortly.

The mod itself is a solid chunk of a mod, and is smooth on every surface, even the resin panel. It doesn’t weigh a lot, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t feel weighty for its size, which it does. I think it looks great!

Voopoo drag nano in hand resin 3The included chain feels fairly high quality and durable, thats if you fancy the idea of using it. Numbers are limited on the chain though, to 500,000 – So if it’s the chain you want then be sure to pick it up soon. However, 500k is quite a large number so you shouldn’t have much trouble picking one up

The Pod/Cartridge

My guess the pod is made from some sort of polycarbonate or similar, the pod holds just 1ml of e-liquid but that’s not really an issue as generally this kit barely uses and juice. On most days I only had to re-fill this once at the most!

Voopoo drag nano podThe pod clicks into the device with a satisfying click, and holds in nice and tight. Heck you can hang this device out of your mouth and vape without even holding it. So the pod itself does click in nicely, even if it does have a slight side-to-side wobble, once installed.

In all honesty though, the build quality, and design of the pod is pretty poor.

Also – baffled with exactly what the coil is, ceramic? Kanthal? Mesh? I’ve been unable to find any information on the coil itself, only that its a 1.8Ω coil.

Updated P1 Pod (August 2019)

Having originally reviewed this Pod System in June – VooPoo have released an updated Pod for the Drag Nano kit which they call the P1 Pod. It has a larger 1.6ml e-liquid capacity and a lower resistance coil at 1.5Ω.

The build quality is much improved as well as the filling port which now sit at the top of the pod, and has 2 filling slots allowing air to escape, and the pod itself is now transparent meaning you can actually see your e-liquid level.

In the Hand

This is no ergonomic pod system, its a lil’chunky rectangle at the end of the day, and thats what it feels like. But because of its size, it’s not going to bother you that much.

Voopoo drag nano in hand resin 2I actually quite like holding, and vaping on this device for feel alone. Because its so small yet weighty, its almost fun to vape on

How To Fill The Drag Nano Pod

Filling the pod sounds simple, ‘slide off the top-cap and fill into slot’ but in reality its an absolute pain in the backside. Even using 50VG/50PG Nic-Salts, the liquid just doesn’t seem to fill the pod easily.

Voopoo drag nano pod lid offIts mainly due to the air inside the pod which gets trapped and doesn’t escape. The slot itself is large enough that it’ll fit the typical 10ml bottle tops and leave enough room for air to escape – But it just doesn’t.Voopoo drag nano pod filling

NOTE – The updated P1 pods are miles easier to fill, with 2 filling slots right at the top of the pod, air can escape alot easier and the silicon bung keeps any liquid from leaking.

How Does the Voopoo Drag Nano Pod Mod Perform?

The VooPoo Drag Nano kit is primarily a Mouth-To-Lung (MTL) device, but you can get a very restrictive direct-to-lung (DTL) vape if you’ve got steel lungs.

Read more about mouth to lung and direct to lung vaping here.

How to Operate

Very simply, this is a draw-activated device, simply draw on the pod (once its installed into the device of course) and the automatic switch does the rest. No buttons to press. It does a lovely job of activating, you don’t have to pull too hard for the coil to fire up.

Voopoo drag nano resin panelUpon firing, the tiny LED indicator will illuminate Green, Blue or Red depending on your battery percentage.

Flavour

Quite simply, the flavour is muted, I spent most of my time with the Drag Nano vaping on some Pod Salt – Blackcurrant Menthol. Which I know to have a sweet blackcurrant and a lovely cooling hit. But in this device, I feel like I’ve wasted a fiver.

Voopoo drag nano chain hangingI get a slight hint of blackcurrant, and no cooling hit. A bit of a shame considering I was expecting so much from this kit, and in comparison to the Voopoo Drag Baby Trio kit which I recently reviewed, this has certainly let me down.

Clouds

Its a nice little cloud when vaping MTL, definitely more vapour production than you get from most Pod systems, and when sucking with all your might to get a direct lung hit, the vapour production is of course improved, but not impressive

Updated P1 Pod Performance

Thanks to the updated pod, with a larger e-liquid capacity, better filling system and transparent in colour, the flavour is much improved. Still not the best on the market but its miles better to the original and the vapour production is alot better also.

Airflow

I wasn’t exactly sure where the airflow came from at first. There are no visible holes on the device, apart from the LED indicator, and the USB charging port at the base. And thats exactly where the airflow comes from.

You do get a nice, fairly tight Mouth-To-Lung vape from this kit, maybe a little loose for me – But still enjoyable.Voopoo drag nano Gene chip

Battery Life

750mAh is more than enough to take care of the 1.8Ω Coil for 2 whole days. I’d even go as far as to say you could manage a third day if you’re quite a light vaper.

Voopoo drag nano chargingWith a 1-hour charge time, its not exactly too painstaking if your battery dies whilst out and about. A quick 10minute boost via the laptop and your back to it!

Pros:

  • The device itself is excellently constructed
  • The battery life is top-notch
  • The styling and feel of the device is very smart
  • Super-Fast charge time
  • Re-fillable pod is always a Pro in my books.

Cons:

  • Very muted flavour
  • The Pod is painful to fill
  • The coil is Non-Replacable (Could be a pro for those that want fuss free vaping)
  • The pod feels and looks cheaply made
  • The device is a bit if a finger-print magnet
  • Airflow not adjustable

Final Verdict

I really expected more from the Drag Nano pod kit than what I actually experienced. To say I’m unimpressed is a massive understatement.

If they can make some changes to the pod including a better coil, which is also replaceable and create a better designed pod to make filling easier, and maybe made the airflow adjustable – this device would be a cracker.

There’s a number of features that I look at when trying out a device, and for something to score highly, it needs to meet certain demands.

‘Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?’

The sheer construction of the device, for how small it is, is awesome. It’s a solid device that if dropped, will land flat, not bounce, and break your nicely tiled bathroom. Add the 750mAh battery to that, and you’ve got a device which is built to last.

The pod however, looks, feels and performs like a dodgy aftermarket part you picked up for your car from Halfords – Like putting a Tesco’s own Air filter in a Ferrari. (The P1 updated pod however is to a much higher standard)

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

Nope – End of story.

But with the updated P1 pod’s – you can certainly enjoy the Drag Nano more than before, it delivers a closer experience to smoking that the original and flavour is now to at least the standard I expect from a pod system.

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper, and an experienced one alike?

If the issues I’ve raised were to be ironed out then this kit would be a perfect. If you’re into your shiny devices, this will snuggle in nicely next to your big mechanical tube mods and resin panelled 200w box mods.

So if you’re new to vaping, this product, as it is right now – Will not deliver the flavour, vapour and throat hit experience that you are most likely looking for from a Pod System,

Voopoo drag nano chain 1The Drag Nano has a lot of work to do with the pods for me to pick it up again.

FlatCap Vaper

Hey Folks. Im Gaz, The Flat-cap Vaper. I’m 35, married with 3 kids and I just love Flatcap's and Vaping! I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 500,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

voopoo-drag-nano-reviewFor something which performs so badly, I'd still replace it if lost or stolen you ask? The truth is, I really, really like this device, I love the style of it. Resin on one side, and the shiny DRAG design on the other. It's a beautiful little thing. The Drag Nano kit with the updated P1 pod is the way to go.

  1. mine does not charge at all
ive changed it with an other cable it still doesnt work its brand new and there is no sign of a green or red light

  2. I have just bought myself one of these as I had tried my friends and loved it. They are getting several days out of the battery and only topping up liquid once or twice a day!
I have Apollo tobacco e-liquid in mine and I am loving it already! It has to be one of the cutest vape devices I have seen in a long time and really well made.
The vape isn’t quite as good as my Smok Nord but still better than some pod mods I have reviewed lately so I am quite impressed to be honest! But I am using 20mg Nic Salts in a brand which does pack in the flavour so that might be why it is performing well for me.
Also there is a new pod on the horizon the P1 which has a lower resistance coil and the top part looks bigger so am not sure if they have re-designed the fill method (I hope so as that is the only bit I don’t like about the kit – it really is fiddly to fill)

  3. I’ve just bought the VooPoo Drag Nano (before reading this review) as an emergency device, because I accidently left my regular travelling device (a JustFog Mini) at home. All I can say is, this has been a complete waste of money, at twice what I paid for the JustFog Mini. There has been no sign of a throat hit, whatsoever, and way too airy for my liking. So a complete meh! experience, and it will be heading to the nearest recycle bin pretty sharpish. Lesson learned. Don’t forget your device in future, and never purchase a device without at least reading some reviews.
