The original Axiom sub ohm tank received it’s fair to say a low key set of reviews with our own Mike Murphy giving it a relatively low 4 out of 5.Innokin Axiom Mini review

Having not used the original Axiom – anything that involves building decks goes over my head – to receive the latest Innokin Axiom Mini and see it didn’t involve any need for the little blue screwdriver I relaxed a little lol.

So is the Axiom Mini a giant step forward for this tank?

Let’s take a look.

In the Box

Took me a wee while to figure out the box was a lift up top with a magnetic catch – I really do get dumber as I get older lol – but once open everything is neatly packed away.

And well done Innokin for adding a spare coil – just one but that’s a step in the right direction compared to some tanks I’ve seen recently!

OK there’s a spare glass tank and a ton of spare ‘O rings’ which as I shall cover later because it might be Innokin telling us something 😉

Key Features

The key features on the Axiom mini are the bottom fed triple airflow – the dual horizontal coils and its ultra-compact design and profile.Innokin axiom mini box

It’s a max 2ml top fill keeping it in line with the TPD regulations with the pyramid style stubby drip tip [removable] making it look a lot like the Smok’ Brit tank.

Design and Build Quality

I’ve said it often enough Innokin design and build superb vape tanks and mods however the Axiom Mini sub ohm tank has for me one HUGE issue regarding overall design and build.

First up on arrival the tank was as you might expect fully assembled. Innokin axiom mini on mod

As a reviewer and buyer I always take a new tank apart not only to take photos for these reviews – but also to clean it out – prime the coil and basically to see what fits where and to check for issues.Innokin axiom mini parts

Taking the Innokin Axiom Mini apart and I noticed as I removed the tiny glass tank an ‘O ring’ popped out.

Assuming it had come loose from the base I tried to re-attach without any luck and lots of trying.

In actual fact the O ring is supposed to be at the base of the glass – now don’t ask me how this is done because for the life of me I can’t see how the bloody thing stays put inside the glass!

Checking the spares I found 6 matching O rings and a couple of smaller ones.

Now I’ve never seen that amount of spare O rings of one size in a tank before- which leaves me to wonder as I mentioned at the start – if Innokin know this and thought they’d chuck a few more in to see if more is better.

For the record it isn’t and trust me I’ve tried everything – even getting my nimble fingered 8-year-old grandson to have a go [it was his day off cleaning chimneys].

Another issue in the build – and I’ve seen this with other ‘mini tanks’ is the turning the airflow system valve.

The intake is right at the base and right next to the battery.

I’ve been using the tank for 5 days now and still the valve is extremely – read ridiculously tight to turn.

Not only that but unless you push the rest of the tank anti-clockwise the Axiom Mini unscrews from the base.

Add to that the issue I’m having with wandering O rings and using it has become a real messy – sticky pain in the a**.

As to the design itself it’s a sweet looking tank!

How Does Innokin Axiom Mini sub ohm Tank Perform?

After giving up on the glass tank O ring I chanced my luck to at least get this review out and balanced the glass on the other O ring on the base.Innokin axiom mini on cool fire tc100

Adding a little downward pressure meant I could keep it steady as I filled.

The pressure from screwing in the top-cap kept it pretty much leak free though I haven’t been comfortable vaping on it if I’m honest as I keep waiting for the inevitable leak down my shirt lol.How to fill Innokin axiom mini

A word of advice – DO prime these coils beforehand because they are thick with cotton and really do take an absolute age to soak in.

Indeed after filling to the max the coils soon guzzled up at least another 1ml!

I actually left it for 30 minutes whilst I grabbed a baby’s bib lol.

OK I have to say that on firing for the first time the crackle was fierce which told me this thing would kick out the clouds and oh boy did it!

The 0.5ohm stock coil literally snarls when it kicks in and at just 30 watts the flavour and clouds were awesome!

However – and not surprising given the sheer amount of cotton packed around the dual horizontal coils – this thirsty little beast dries up your juice like blotting paper.Innokin axiom mini coil head

I managed about a dozen decent 6 second inhales before needing to fill again!

I took the coil from 20watts to 40watts at 5watt increments and to be honest there was little if any difference in both flavour and clouds – it’s a monster!

What I Like

I can’t fault the Innokin Axiom Mini for cloud production and an amazing flavour profile – it’s right up there with the Brit Mini tank.

What I Don’t Like

If, as I believe, that O ring is meant for the glass tank then one word – WHY???

I defy anyone to fit it without resorting to swearing – face palms and head onto desk planting.

This is a cool fun little tank that holds its flavour and positively turns a decent sized room into a Victorian fog – why oh why put the O ring there and spoil all the fun???

NOTE: if there is a simple way to put the O ring back then someone please let me know ☺

Final Review Verdict

You know what I’m going to say!

I really like the flavour and the clouds off the Innokin Axiom Mini but the whole thing has been spoiled for me by that wandering nomadic [like where does it live???] O ring.

If I’d bought this I’d be extremely disappointed with the design because performance wise this is top notch.

I also have to say that thanks to the TPD regulations. 2ml is nowhere near enough capacity for these coils which I have to say are awesome!

Pros

  • Great Flavour
  • Great Clouds
  • Top Fill
  • Triple Airflow
  • Awesome coils

Cons

  • Wandering O ring
  • Juice guzzler

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA... I'm a former journalist and now a writer and sometimes author... I'm ex Army - adore dogs and never happier than hiking over the hills or with a good book on a beach.

axiom-mini-sub-ohm-tank-reviewGreat coils spoiled by an un-friendly tank and a very annoying O ring.

  1. Thanks for that 🙂 I guess I should have taken/added a photo of the proper filling procedure – however due to the issue I had with the tank O ring I decided to show the way I had to fill in case this is an issue and others had the same trouble 🙂

  2. That tank is a top fill. There is a thin cap where the drip tip is that unscrews. There should be three large holes for adding juice. No one to take the whole top section off to fill the tank
