Despite much of the USA’s medical establishment still saying e-cigarettes and the coronavirus are linked in a harmful way, the FDA has just made a spectacular 180!

Though still not as clear as many of us might have liked – as you’ll soon see.

E-cigarettes and the Coronavirus FDA backs down

The Surgeon General and the Food and Drugs administration had been saying for weeks that vapers were at far greater risk of complications if contracting the COVID-19 virus.

However despite admitting it was wrong, the FDA made it clear that in it’s eyes vaping was still bad for health saying:

E-cigarette use can expose the lungs to toxic chemicals, but whether those exposures increase the risk of COVID-19 is not known…

Not sure where they get that from – let’s hope there’s another U Turn coming very soon to clear that misnomer up!

Rather than making the announcement via their website or even a press release, the statement was sent via email to the Bloomberg news organization – yeah the one owned by self appointed anti-vaping czar Michael Bloomberg.

Pretty sure that made him choke on his coffee…

It was only a couple of weeks ago the FDA released this little tidbit – eagerly snapped up by the main – oops I meant shamestream media:

People with underlying health issues, such as heart or lung problems, may have increased risk for serious complications from Covid-19.

This includes people who smoke and/or vape tobacco or nicotine-containing products.

E-cigarettes can damage lung cells.

The anti-vaping National Institute on Drug Abuse had also cranked up the fear factor that e-cigarettes and the coronavirus were linked in someway.

A recent blog post warned vapers were at ‘serious threat‘ from COVID-19 complications – lumping them in with opioid addicts and other addictions adding:

Vaping, like smoking, may also harm lung health. Whether it can lead to COPD is still unknown, but emerging evidence suggests that exposure to aerosols from e-cigarettes harms the cells of the lung and diminishes the ability to respond to infection.

In one NIH-supported study, for instance, influenza virus-infected mice exposed to these aerosols had enhanced tissue damage and inflammation.

There’s those vaping mice again – poor little sods…

FDA Deserves No Applause For This U-Turn

Hopefully – and if the mainstream media bothers to report this news far and wide, the FDA’s tepid retraction of the blatantly false ‘dangerous link‘ between e-cigarettes and the coronavirus, might go someway to allay the fears of vapers around the world.

God knows we’re bombarded by such anti-vaping fake and false scaremongering on a daily level – or what I like to call bullshit

However Gregory Conley, president of the American Vaping Association, wasn’t celebrating and had some harsh words for the FDA:

The FDA deserves no applause for eventually arriving at the right public stance, which is that there is no evidence linking the use of nicotine vaping products to COVID-19 infection or severity.

It was wholly irresponsible for the FDA to add fuel to the fire several weeks ago by commenting on a subject they now admit they know nothing about.

Absolutely, and very similar to that ridiculous and downright fake announcement Gottlieb made about ‘possible’ links to vaping and seizures…he even got Cher’s endorsement on that fake factoid lol.

BTW, I cleared up that ridiculous fake vape news in the article: Collapsed Lungs and Seizures – Is Vaping REALLY To Blame?

Matt Culley, YouTube vape reviewer and member of Consumer Advocates for Smoke-Free Alternatives Association [CASAA] was also not ready to congratulate the FDA saying:

I’m glad the FDA has decided to walk back on their statement, unlike many others in public health that are using a pandemic to further their unscientific war on vaping.

Unfortunately, like we saw last year with EVALI misinformation, the damage is already done, and this will hurt tobacco harm reduction efforts in the long term.

Indeed.

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA... I'm a former journalist and now a writer and sometimes author... I'm ex Army - adore dogs and never happier than hiking over the hills or with a good book on a beach.
