Today I’m looking at a range of TPD compliant disposable e-cigs from Shenzhen based Elf Bar. They’re imported into the UK by KOV distribution based in Manchester.
Elf Bar believe there are more healthy ways to vape. In fact the word Elf is their keyword and represents healthier and better. Healthier in the harm free materials used during manufacture and better in terms of a natural, purer taste.
They’ve been keeping themselves very busy over the last three years manufacturing not only disposables but pod systems and pod kits as well. Still, the emphasis has been firmly placed on disposable vapes. Right now there are at least twenty four different disposable pod kits available through their website.
I think that’s what you call “Dedication” and Roy Castle would be proud!
The devices are super simple to use, basically inhale on the mouthpiece and the Auto Draw system will trigger the fire activation – easy peasy!
Let’s take a look at three devices Elf Bar produce right now.
What Can We Expect From the Elf Bar 600, T600 and CR500 Disposable Pods?
Elf Bar 600 Disposable Pod
This looks to be a more recent addition to the range. A 350, 800 and 1500 version have already been released. With a maximum e-liquid capacity of 4.8ml don’t expect the Elf Bar 1500 to be hitting vape shelves in the UK anytime soon.
The new Elf Bar 600 falls in line with TPD regulations with a 2ml capacity. It’s slim with a diameter of just 16mm and a height of 104mm. The internal battery capacity is 550mAh and – you guessed it, said to last anything up to 600 puffs.
Elf Bar state you’ll run dry of liquid before the battery fails.
I managed to find 27 flavours to pick from and these include fruit, beverage and mint. All of which look to be available in 20mg Nic Salt only.
It also doesn’t state what the liquid ratio is so I’m going to assume 50VG/50PG.
Elf Bar T600 Disposable Pod
It doesn’t take long to figure out what the “T” prefix stands for with these disposable pods. Elf Bar are striving for that natural, pure taste with the inclusion of two MTL cigarette filter style drip tips with each pod.
So the new vaper is going to feel very much at home with these.
I’m reviewing the TPD (2ml) version. It has a diameter of just 14mm with a height of 95mm. The nicotine strength appears to be fixed again at 20mg nicotine salt and the maximum battery capacity is 500mAh.
A non EU version is also available. The Elf Bar T800 holds 3ml e-liquid with nic salt strengths of either 20mg or 50mg. Since the battery capacity remains at 500mAh it’s difficult to know if the battery will fail before the juice runs dry.
The Elf Bar T600 comes in twelve popular flavours including Mango, Strawberry Kiwi and Blue Razz Lemonade.
Expect to vape anything up to 600 times with the T600 disposable.
Elf Bar CR500 Disposable Pod
There’s another change of design with the Elf Bar CR500. The external spherical packaging is a bit of a giveaway, really.
They look like mini milk bottles, for want of a better description. They even have a glossy finish that goes some way with replicating glass, I guess.
..Glassy. But Classy! lol. Maybe CR stands for Classy Release? Maybe I’m clutching at straws when I should be clutching these vapes!
The Elf Bar CR500 is limited to a TPD version holding the mandatory 2ml of 20mg nic salt e-liquid. The battery capacity is 400mAh and said to last anything up to 500 puffs.
It measures 95mm in height with a diameter of 18.7mm.
Expect a range of twelve different flavour profiles including Sour Apple, Banana Milk and Watermelon Lemon. Some are exclusive to the CR500.
How Do the Elf Bar 600, T600 and CR500 Disposable Pods Perform?
Ok, let’s look at three flavours from each of the disposables.
I’ll give my honest unbiased opinions remembering that taste is subjective. I’m looking for flavour replication, vapour production, auto draw sensitivity, portability and reliability throughout daily use.
Elf Bar 600 – Blue Razz Lemonade
Elf Bar Says:
“Featuring tangy sweet notes of fizzy lemonade that will tantalise your taste buds like no other. Perfectly balanced and infused with delicious blue raspberry flavours to create a refreshing vape experience”.
Tangy is the first word that springs to mind with a few initial vapes. It’s immediately followed by an absolute explosion of flavour on the exhale.
The very realest lemonade content is extremely refreshing and couples well with copious smatterings of sweetness.
Underpinning the full bodied fruit lies a cooling agent that’s proportionately delivered. It never outstays its welcome and really helps to lift this highly uplifting and buoyant vape.
The fizzy and tangy partnership sets the tone at the start of the exhale, making way for the fresh summer beverage. Somewhere further back a few raspberry notes filter through but in general get caught up in the overall sweetness of the vape.
It’s the clever combination of fruit with an icy cool blast that keeps Blue Razz Lemonade firmly planted in the mind. It’s without doubt an all day vape in my opinion.
Elf Bar 600 – Watermelon
Elf Bar Says:
“A watermelon flavour that features sweet notes of juicy watermelons with the kind of high quality flavour you would expect from an Elf Bar 600”.
A strong aroma wafts from the mouthpiece once the packaging is torn apart. That always bodes well for flavour intensity. Is that what we get?
Indeed it is! This is a very fresh, ripe and succulent tasting watermelon. Quite possibly the Crimson sweet variety and most commonly emulated in the land of all things vape.
The throat gets hit by an icy cold blast on the inhale. Just before exhale the bitter nature of the fruit takes hold before being replaced with sour back notes.
There’s a lot of sourness with Watermelon so be prepared. There’s also plenty of sweetness on the way out and acts to keep the experience refreshing and alive. It’s lip smackingly good!
Tasty and uplifting are words I’d use to describe Watermelon and it works as an ideal thirst quencher for the Summer months. The chilling throat blast will certainly help keep temperatures down.
It’s packed with flavour intensity from start to finish, but expect the coolant to stubbornly remain after the vape.
That may be a deal breaker for some but for I think it works.
Elf Bar 600 – Kiwi Passion Fruit Guava
Elf Bar Says:
“Capturing sweet and tangy notes of exotic kiwis paired with tantalising passion fruit highlights and tropical guava on the exhale to create a delicious tropical medley of flavours”.
If the flavour description is anything to go by, this one should be crammed full of tropical goodness. Is that the case?
Not exactly but it has a very good attempt at trying. The inhale is somewhat overplayed with its icy cool blast. It takes centre stage before the appearance of any flavour which is a disappointment to be honest.
Combined with the acidity of the fruit it becomes too obtrusive. As a consequence it feels as if the combination of fruits are crammed and mushed together on the eventual exhale.
Without doubt, the over riding fruit is Kiwi. The pineapple like qualities are very much on show as well as hints of sweet strawberry in the background.
The sweetness does tend to overwhelm, almost to the point of becoming sickly and even traceable during inhale.
There’s less tart and more tanginess on offer and the fragrance of the passionfruit chugs along throughout.
It’s ok but it’s more about the cooling blast and fixation for sweetness with Kiwi Passionfruit Guava.
Elf Bar T600 – Strawberry Cheesecake
Elf Bar Says:
“A creamy dessert blend capturing sweet summer strawberries that give a ripe highlight on the inhale. It’s followed by a delicately smooth and creamy cheesecake undertone to create a delicious vape exhale”.
As soon as the protective seal was broken on the disposable the smell of strawberry yoghurt hit my nostrils! A very good sign.
..and how does this flavour taste? This is quite possibly the best replication of a flavour description I’ve experienced. A realistic strawberry is drowned in a milky, creamy goodness that spills from the exhale.
It’s a very rich and textured vape too, something I personally don’t often find from a disposable pod. There’s a distinctive buttery texture driving through the centre of the exhale. It’s delightful and certainly representative of a cake base mix.
The sweetness adds further to the effect, first felt on the build up during inhale then permeating through the dairy notes. It finally settles on the tongue after the vape.
Yes, there’s plenty of cooling agent attached but in this case compliments the flavour intensity. This vape is neither wet nor dry – put simply? It’s pitched perfectly.
With strawberry Cheesecake everything just works. For once I’m lost for words! It’s far better to experience first hand just what’s on offer. – I’m gushing lol
Elf Bar T600 – Pineapple Peach Mango
Elf Bar Says:
“Deliciously tropical notes of juicy pineapple and soft peaches that have been perfectly fused together with mango to create a truly tantalising and unique vape experience”.
I was greeted by the aroma of pineapple when opening the packaging which led me to believe that’s all I was going to get. Thankfully that wasn’t the case because Pineapple, Peach and Mango does exactly what it says on the pod!
It’s a clever trio of tropical fruits where pineapple and peach unites with fresh mango. The three blend very well together and it’s hard to decide who’s the dominant one here.
An icy cold blast envelopes the inhale and elevated levels of sweetness swamp the exhale. Both intertwine with the intensity of the fruit and linger long after the vape has finished.
The fruit is juicy and ripe tasting and will no doubt act as a worthy Summer vaping companion. It’s an effective combination of flavour that may have achieved more were it not for the intrusion of cooling agent.
Despite that niggle, Pineapple Peach Mango is without doubt an all day vape. It never loses appeal and the flavour is great.
Elf Bar T600 – Strawberry Kiwi
Elf Bar Says:
“A wonderfully delicious blend of sweet and ripe strawberries perfectly balanced together with exotic kiwi for a tropical twist to create a fruity vape experience with a tangy aftertaste”.
I’m greeted with a highly refreshing taste with Strawberry Kiwi. A tangy tartness builds on the inhale and combines with an ice cool blast to the rear of the throat.
The strawberry punches through first with an abundance of sweetness that lasts the course of the vape. There’s a degree of sharpness on the way out but doesn’t hinder the flavour. If anything it improves the intensity of the vape.
It’s not the most authentic strawberry but will certainly be accessible and recognisable to any new vaper.
The Kiwi is included by way of a single back note. The tone and texture of the exhale isn’t what I would associate with the fruit but the merest reference of pineapple is a contributing factor, no doubt.
Strawberry Kiwi is another ideal vape for the Summer months and that cooling blast will help you keep your cool!
Elf Bar CR500 – Berry Peach
Elf Bar Says:
“Featuring a fruity blend that captures sweet yet delicate peach flavour notes paired with a medley of berries to create a fantastic vape experience”.
There’s quite a well crafted trio of ripe berries with Berry Peach of which raspberry and strawberry dominate. Blackcurrant brings added sweetness to the vape and for once, peach gets a starring role.
The peach helps to soften and nourish the inhale although it’s in no way juicy or sweet. That becomes more evident with its mildly abrasive texture during the exhale.
A cooling blast hits the throat but never over powers. This allows the fruitiness of the flavour to develop more. A bitterness and sharpness accompanies the berries to create added flavour intensity.
With a multitude of fruits on offer, Berry Peach makes for an all day seasonal vape.
Elf Bar CR500 – Sour Apple
Elf Bar Says:
“Some of the best apple flavour featuring a fantastic single fruit blend that perfectly captures the crisp green apple notes with tangy highlights to create a tantalising vape experience”.
It’s very rare that I come across an authentic tasting apple vape but that’s what I’ve got here. It’s packed with flavour from the absorbing sweetness of the inhale, through to the sourness of the fruit on the way out.
It lasts the course well too. There’s little to no tapering of flavour as the exhale finishes. It’s not a taste that loiters or lingers around the palate either, which may be pleasing news to some.
A cold blast accompanies every inhale and never interferes with the flavour. I honestly can’t think of many better chilled summer vapes, since this one is so faithful to its description.
This is your typical Granny Smith apple variety complete with a distinctive sour bite. It works an absolute treat and the Elf Bar CR500 disposable puts some generic profiles to shame with Sour Apple.
At its heart this is generic but it’s done so very, very well.
Elf Bar CR500 – Banana Milk
Elf Bar Says:
“A deliciously creamy blend that perfectly captures the tropical banana flavours paired with a creamy cold milk to create a smooth and tasty vape experience like no other”.
Wow! I was expecting a foam, sweetie version of banana with Banana Milk but instead it’s an authentic, ripe tasting variety instead. It builds with its sweetness on the inhale and unleashes itself on the way out.
It’s incredibly accessible and works a treat. The cooling agent doesn’t interfere but helps to lift the flavour. To attenuate it, if you like.
It also works in presenting a chilling mouth full of milky goodness. This is what helps to make Banana Milk so mouth watering and refreshing. There’s a perfect combination of fruit with an ice cold beverage to wash everything down.
Banana Milk has great tone and texture which adds another dimension overall to what is already a great tasting vape.
This is without doubt an all day vape – but that is only my opinion, of course!
Elf Bar 600, T600 and CR500 Final Review Verdict
The main theme with this range of three in the Elf Bar catalogue has got to be ice, sweetness and fruity flavour. They’re designed to be instantly accessible for the new, casual vaper that’s not concerned by any complexities to their vapes.
There’s not much to suggest they fail the description test either. They do stumble a bit when adding more than a couple of flavour concentrates. On a few occasions the cooling agent is overloaded and the sweetness approaches dangerously intrusive levels.
Yet in general they all do a mighty fine job.
You’re probably wondering if they last for the designated number of puffs? I’m afraid my concentration levels were firmly fixed on the flavours during the days of testing them.
I’m a forgetful sod, too!
Admittedly not tested with every single one, the flavours held for the duration of the batteries capacity. Dry hits were inevitable as the juice evaporated. Meanwhile the Elf Bar battery life kept chugging along.
The CR500 trio came out on top for me. They represented the best in fruit authenticity, complexity as well as flavour intensity.
For sheer comfort (and controversially, a reminder of cigarette butts) the T600 won for the replaceable foam tips.
Although the Elf Bar 600 came third by a few points, it still delivered flavour on a very consistent level.
Every disposable was as pocket friendly as they come, felt very comfortable while discreetly vaping and vapour production was non obtrusive to others.
I would boldly state that the Elf Bar flavours in the range I’ve tested are among the best disposable pod systems on the market today.
