The summer of starter kits continues and the new GeekVape Z50 is designed for both MTL and RDTL vaping styles.

This is one of those kits that hopes to deliver a tight vape and by switching the coil and fiddling with the airflow a looser cloudier style.

geekvape z50 review

Many try to pull this off and as to if the GeekVape Z50 manages it – we shall see.

GeekVape is one of the big boys in the world of vaping and it’s very rare any of its products aren’t well received.

The super-tough GeekVape series of Legend mods have become just that – legendary, whilst the Zeus range of tanks and rebuildables are also much loved performers.

As you can see the GeekVape Z50 vape kit is a pretty little thing and comes topped with the equally small Nano Z tank.

What Can We Expect From the GeekVape Z50 Kit?

Adaptability is the key here, and the Nano Z tank is compatible with all the GeekVape series B coils and there’s x2 in the box.

Both are mesh and you get the 0.3ohm for restricted sub ohm vaping and the 0.6ohm coil for a tighter MTL vape.

airflow

Airflow comes from the top – as are the fill ports – so apart from great flavour I’m expecting a leak free vape.

OK, the GeekVape Z50 kit was sent to me direct from Vape Club – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are not swayed by freebies.

GeekVape Z50 Key Features

The first thing to note is just how small the GeekVape Z50 kit is – it’s a tiny little thing.

Obviously with the Z Nano tank it’s a little longer, but still a real stealthy little vape kit.

geekvape z50 mod review

GeekVape says this is the smallest 2000mAH mod on the market, ideal for slipping into your pocket or bag and with long battery life.

It might be small, but the designers really have loaded it with looking features and it powers from 5 to 50w.

There’s a choice of modes: including Power – Bypass – Temp Control and TCR.

Let’s a have a quick look at getting the GeekVape Z50 working:

Quick Start Guide

  • x5 clicks of the fire button on and off
  • x3 click of the fire button enters menu
  • Use up and down buttons to scroll through options
  • Plus and minus button locks in your choice
  • Fill tank from the top
  • Replace coil from the bottom
  • Hold all 3 buttons to enter stealth mode
  • Hold plus and minus together to switch screen mode

Design and Build Quality

Despite being small this one’s beautifully put together.

Can’t seem to find what the mod is made from, but it’s certainly solid so I’m guessing stainless steel.

geekvape z50 colours

The screen is your typical GeekVape style and is reasonably clear, and the buttons have a very good throw to them.

The Z Nano tank looks like a baby Zeus and the moving parts all screw back and forward nicely with little or no crunching.

Filling is an absolute doddle – simply remove the top cap to find two generous fill ports.

There’s x4 colour combos to choose from: Black – Gun Metal – Rainbow and the Silver I received.

Each one has a different inlay and does look very fancy indeed, especially with the GeekVape logo and ridges on the opposite side.

logos

Maybe the rear side logo and lines are a little busy but no biggie.

One thing is for sure, it fits nicely in the hand and is a very comfortable kit to vape on.

How Does the GeekVape Z50 Perform?

The GeekVape Z50 comes with x2 coils, the 0.3 Ohm [pre-installed] and the 0.6ohm.

The Z Nano tank offers both MTL and a restricted DTL vape so let’s take a look at each of them in action.

For the taste test I used the IVG Frozen Cherries nic salt in the 0.6ohm coil and the regular 70/30 VG/PG with the 0.6ohm coil.

GeekVape Z50 0.30ohm Coil

This is mesh and best between 30 and 38w.

I began at 30w and immediately bumped it up to 35w as I felt it was a rather weak vape.

coil swap

Very impressive clouds, however the flavour was a little muted.

Indeed it took 2 fills before I began to get better flavour – quite common with stock coils in my experience.

Once that coil bedded in the flavour definitely popped and with 10 being super tasty this one’s an easy 8.

As for the airflow – closed to almost shut and it’s still quite airy and wide open there’s just too much air going in.

GeekVape says this offers a restricted lung hit, but personally I think it’s very loose.

GeekVape Z50 0.6ohm Coil

Again made from mesh and this one is best between 15 and 25w.

I began at 17w and used the included MTL drip tip.

06 coil

With the airflow closed right off the vape was tighter, but still a rather loose MTL vape.

If 10 is super-tight then I’d put this one at around a 7 – pretty airy.

Flavourwise I found this one to be the tastiest coil and once bedded in was getting high 8’s.

Note: the Nano Z tank is compatible with all of the Series B coils – I only have the ones in the box.

Pros

  • Compact and stealthy
  • Great build quality
  • Smart design
  • x2 coils in the box
  • Good flavour
  • Great clouds
  • LONG battery life
  • Fast charging
  • Easy filling
  • Easy coil swap
  • Plenty of menu options
  • Leak free!

Cons

None really, though with the 0.30hm coil you will be filling a lot…that’s not GeekVape’s fault blame stupid the TPD limit.

Final Review Verdict

Whilst the GeekVape Z50 isn’t a kit I’d be rushing out to buy, it’s perfect for the intermediate vaper.

I’m thinking of newish vapers that have been using pod kits and are looking for a gentle first full kit set-up.

It’s pretty much foolproof to use and will indeed grow with the vaper.

Start off with the MTL coil and move to sub ohm and you will find your preferred vaping style.

Saying that, it’s not the tightest draw out there and may be a little loose for some.

However, once settle in both coils give good flavour and bags of clouds.

It’s certainly pretty to look at and lovely to hold, and like most GeekVape products, the Z50 is built very indeed.

New vapers looking for something away from pod kits will be happy let’s put it that way.

So what do you think about this one?

Is it ideal for newbies?

Is it one you’ll be buying?

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA... I'm a former journalist and now a writer and sometimes author... I'm ex Army - adore dogs and never happier than hiking over the hills or with a good book on a beach.

  1. I bought the rainbow Z50 and it more than serves the purpose for me. I 100% agree for the intermediate vaper, finding the right setting for you can be a bit tricky. I had to change the o-rings on the tank after 1 and a half months of heavy use, which was easy albeit paying attention to which ring goes where. I give it a 9/10
