Given I’ve rekindled my love for hiking I need a vape that is flavoursome, hassle free, leak-proof and lightweight, so does the new OVVIO X2 pod kit tick some or all of those boxes?

We shall of course find out in this pod kit review.

OVVIO is a pretty much brand new company based in Dongguan, China.

The OVVIO X2 pod kit is the second release, the first being the original OVVIO X.Ovvio

The company’s website is very smart indeed and filled with snippets from its mission statement that almost takes on mantras…

We are open to the world trying to evolve with every new experience.

And even…

We offer you a new tomorrow…and…We dare to be different

As to if the OVVIO X2 pod kit is ‘any different‘ to all the others out there, we shall of course be finding out.

What Can We Expect From the OVVIO X2 Pod Kit?

The key difference is the coil and wicking technology being used.

In this case it’s the μKERA™ technology – which as you’ll see in a wee while, is very similar to the FEELM ceramic system.

ukera ceramic pods

They say this system is:

Using more reliable and biocompatible precious metal material.

To create refined porous wicking with dust-free experience.

All sounds interesting enough.

The pods have a 1.1ohm resistance, are sealed, have a 1.5ml capacity and are filled with nic salts and there’s x6 flavours.

Power wise the battery is internal and 350mAH, the device is draw activated and comes in a choice of x3 colours.

OK, I was sent x2 batteries and x3 packets of pods direct from OVVIO – thank you – and as always my thoughts and opinions are not swayed by freebies.

OVVIO is Italian for ‘obvious…’

So let’s see if this is an obvious choice for new and established vapers.

Key Features

Key here is the coil and wicking.

The OVVIO X2 pod kit is using ceramic, but not just any old ceramic.μKERA

It’s using μKERA™ technology that it says is:

…a ceramic based micro vaporization technology, OVVIO X2 has been able to deliver more consistent vaping performance than other traditional coils.

A true taste from every single drop of your e-liquid without any taints of unpleasant dry burnt.

Sounds very similar to the FEELM Inside – something I took a look at almost to the day last year.

Of course we shall be looking at if the claims are true and if I can dig out one of my FEELM based pods I’ll do a quick comparison.

As for the rest of the features…

The OVVIO X2 pod kit has a small 350mAH internal battery and the 1.5ml pods are sealed.

There’s a choice of 6 flavoured pods: Tobacco, Mint, Mango, Grapefruit, Blueberry, and Mint Tobacco.

ovvio x2 pod kit review flavour pods

I did read somewhere there were 10 flavours…but I reckon that’s for the original OVVIO X pod kit and not sure if they are compatible.

OK, there’s no fire button so this is a draw device and the TYPE-C Cable means it should be a fast charger.

There’s an LED light – shaped like an X – on the device showing the battery capacity:

  • White = 50 to 100%
  • Yellow = 25 to 49%
  • Red = 0 to 25%

Not much point doing a Quick Start Guide as all you need to do is make sure the battery is charged – remove all the wrapping and silicone bungs from the pods – snap them in and vape!

Easy.

Build and Design Quality

No issues with the build whatsoever – very nicely done and light but solid in the hand.

The pods snap in nicely and there’s no movement or rattle and there’s quite strong magnets in there too.

in hand

Design wise it might be a pod kit – but it really is a bit of a looker – especially the red version that has an almost metallic finish – nice to the touch too.

Branding is kept to a minimum as well, with the company name one side and as I mentioned the cut out X which also doubles as the LED battery indicator on the other.

In fact – it really is a classy looking piece of kit if I’m honest, so let’s see if it vapes as well as it looks.

How Does the OVVIO X2 Pod Kit Perform

I’ve had this on the go for over a week now and taken it out on my daily walks/hikes – 3 hours plus and around 8 miles plus – depending on my knees and back lol!

This type of pod kit really is ideal for slipping into your rucksack or pocket and takes up little or no space or weight.

ovvio x2 pod kit pod

Even on a particularly hot day here in the UK, and inside my backpack there was absolutely no leaking whatsoever – bonus!

Performance wise I really don’t have any issues whatsoever – the draw is maybe a tad loose for dedicated MTL vapers.

loose mtl pod

But again covering one of the airflow holes with finger thumb or tape really does tighten things up.

It’s quite a cool vape as you might expect – however it’s actually very refreshing especially with the flavours I was sent – I’ll touch on those in a moment.

Cloudy For Salt Nic Pods

What I will say is they are Nicotine Salts and to that end there’s barely any throat hit, but there is a choice of strength – 20mg or a whopping 50mg – I was sent the former.

There is a surprising amount of vapour coming from these little guys too.

Something a ‘disgruntled‘ woman of a certain age in Lycra exercising in the park made obvious by glowering at me whilst wafting her arms about as if being attacked by a swarm of murder hornets…

Guess I ruined her Zen yoga moment…or something…

BTW I don’t sit in the park to watch ladies in Lycra – it’s a stop off after my walk…honest officer

Anyway I digress…

I’m getting about a squeak under 4 hours vape time using it as my standalone, and I’ve found no dip in flavour or performance when the battery starts to die.

So I guess we need to see if the μKERA™ technology really does deliver on its promise.

OVVIO X2 Pod Kit – Flavours

I was sent x3 packets of pods each with 4 inside: Mint, Mint Tobacco and Mango.

OK, let’s try each one.

OVVIO X2 Pod Kit – Mint

ovvio x2 pod kit review mint

A really lovely refreshing smell from this one.

Think Wrigley’s spearmint chewing gum with less sweetener and more of a natural mint odour.

A very refreshing vape with a crisp cool taste and not at all an icy blast.

The more I vaped on this – the more my mouth refreshed and I really wanted roast lamb with mint sauce…

A very authentic natural mint flavoured e-liquid – I like it!

OVVIO X2 Pod Kit – Mint Tobacco

ovvio x2 pod kit review mint tobacco

On opening up the box I was met by the unmistakable aroma of a now banned menthol lit cigarette – before it’s lit obviously 😉

Not a lot of mint on the inhale, instead you get a lovely rich almost chocolate tobacco note that lingers for a millisecond, before the tip of your tongue tells you this is a mint based flavour.

The exhale brings more cooling mint, but still that quite lovely tobacco holds on creating a really lovely smooth tasty tobacco vape.

Again this one is ultra-smooth with barely a throat hit – but this one felt a thicker vape if that makes sense.

This one has been my go too vape – morning – walking and last thing at night.

Bloody lovely.

OVVIO X2 Pod Kit – Mango

ovvio x2 pod kit review mango

Once again a lovely smell coming from the box and the promise of juicy ripe mango.

Now, there’s no mention of mint or menthol on the box – but that’s what I’m getting!

I’m getting a real tingle on the tip of my tongue with this one too.

Plus the mango is, dare I say, a little washed out compared to the previous two flavours.

It’s a nice flavour – but that cooling effect takes quite a bit of the mango away.

I know a lot of new vapers really don’t like over-powering e-liquids – so this might be an ideal flavour for the absolute beginners.

Nice enough – but for me needed a bit more mango!

Pros

  • Competitively priced battery and pods
  • Stylish design
  • Simple to use
  • Fast charging
  • Leak free

Cons

  • No pods in the kit!
  • Sealed pods
  • Mango was a little weak
  • Battery life a little short

Final Review Verdict

I’m quite impressed by the OVVIO X2 Pod Kit in both looks and overall performance.

Saying that there’s a couple of ‘constructive niggles‘.

Number one is not putting a couple of pods in with the battery. Buying separately is a bit of hassle or am I nit picking?

Then there’s the battery life – at a push I reckon 3.5 to 4 hours used often is the best I’ve got. I got caught on a hill the first time I took it out – luckily I had the other fully charged battery with me – charges fast though, from flat to full in 40 minutes.

Not sure why, but as you saw, the Mango flavour is a little wishy-washy, still a decent flavour, but for my tired taste-buds could do with a touch more oomph.

On the bright side, the OVVIO X2 Pod Kit really is a good looking little set-up and I love the red – that metallic finish is very smart indeed.

μKERA™ Technology

I couldn’t find any of my FEELM pods – typical – so is this μKERA™ technology something or nothing?

To be absolutely honest it’s hard to say.

To really know I’d need to use an e-liquid I know well.

What I can say, is it’s definitely a smooth vape – if a little on the cool side – and it really does pump out the clouds.

It definitely holds onto its flavour even when the battery is about to go dead, and yeah the last drop of juice tastes as good as the first.

At around 350 puffs per pod [I lost count] that’s pretty good performance and value for money.

So maybe there is something in it 😉

I’d certainly recommend the OVVIO X2 Pod Kit – just a real pity there wasn’t a pod kit with pods.

Other than that, they’re staying in my rucksack for sure.

Have you used the OVVIO X2 pod kit or even the original?

Are you considering buying it?

If so do let me know in the comments below – especially what you thought or think about this μKERA™ technology 🙂

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA... I'm a former journalist and now a writer and sometimes author... I'm ex Army - adore dogs and never happier than hiking over the hills or with a good book on a beach.
