The Uwell Aeglos pod kit review and it appears the company reckons this one is going to become legendary!

As you open the Uwell website [at the time of writing], you are greeted with a very Lord of the Rings inspired banner that says ‘Uwell Aeglos, One Pod To Rule Them All‘…

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit abnner

Aeglos is the spear of Gil-galad in The Lord of the Rings (books and film); it essentially means snow-point or icicle, although I don’t think the definition has much relevance to the device.

Founded in 2015 Uwell has got some pretty awesome devices and technology under their belt.

It claims to have made the first ‘Plug-Push‘ coils, the first ‘self-cleaning technology‘, the first 80W regulated tube mod, that’s a lot of innovation…

The Uwell catalogue currently consists of 12 pod systems, 8 mods and 6 atomisers, and are probably most known for the Uwell Crown V tank, Amulet Watch/pod, the hugely popular Caliburn pod kits, and the Valyrian tanks.

What Can We Expect From The Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit?

The Uwell Aeglos pod system is refreshing at the minute because everything else that is coming out seems to be based on the same style, a leather patch and a pod that looks like a tank.

However Uwell has stayed clear of following the trend and brought out a ‘standard‘ pod system… but this is Uwell, so it’s not that standard there a few features that are different.

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit

First of all the airflow adjustment is rotating disk underneath the pod and the pod connection is completely different to anything I’ve ever seen before.

Obviously if the pod connection is different so is the bottom of the pod, but the top of the pod isn’t conventional either, as the mouth piece lifts off to access the top fill hole.

The mod it’s self has adjustable power from 5w to 60w, a 1,500mAh battery and 2A USB-C charging.

Without further ado, let’s see if the Uwell Aeglos pod kit really does ‘rule them all

Design & Build Quality

The Uwell Aeglos comes in 5 different colours, as you can see I received the black version:

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit colours

The Uwell Aeglos Mod – Battery Section

The Uwell Aeglos mod section has a rounded square base and I like it.

It has the shame feel of a tube mod but because it’s more square, it seems to fit the hand a bit better.

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit

The aluminium alloy body feels awesome with it’s matte finish, leaving it nice and smooth but not slippy.

In regards to the visual design, it’s quite plain (not complaining), even the branding is minimalistic, with only the Aeglos logo under the buttons on the front of the device.

I should add the Aeglos logo is that type of ‘silver’ that has a rainbow affect when the light hits it at an angle.

There isn’t much more to talk about in regards to the mod, Uwell has kept it nice and simple.

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit Buttons

The Aeglos has 3 buttons, all of which are square with rounded corners.

The fire button is towards the top of the mod, measuring at 8 x 8mm.

Although it is relatively small, it’s still easy to find and press. There’s a slight rattle when you press the button but doesn’t rattle when you shake the mod, so I don’t class that as a rattly button.

The ‘+’ and ‘-‘ down buttons are joint in the middle and together they measure at 10.5 x 4.5mm. These don’t rattle at all and are nice and easy to use.

The Uwell Aeglos Screen

Compared to a lot of systems these days the Aeglos’ screen looks a bit boring because it’s only in black and white.

Although, it’s great to having something that looks cool, I’m sure you will agree the functionality is far more important.

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit screen

Because Uwell hasn’t wasted screen space by trying to make it look fancy, the information on the screen is nice and easy to see.

Up in the top left is the power setting and in the right is the battery indicator, which displays as a battery bar, without a percentage.

Just below those is the current wattage setting, then the voltage, coil resistance and timer, with the puff counter, right at the bottom.

Uwell Aeglos Pod Connection

Here’s something new and a bit strange…

The pod is held in by 2 rather large ledges and notches.

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit adjustable airflow

I’m quite surprised that Uwell has chosen this type of connection because a lot of people are often wary that they will break or become less secure over time.

But you don’t have to remove the pod to fill it up. You only have to remove it to change the coil or adjust the airflow.

So you won’t be removing it all that often and the ledges are pretty huge and it holds on super tight.

Having said that, I does take a bit of practice to remove the mouth piece without accidentally removing the pod.

This Style of connection is unavoidable when you take a look inside at the airflow… which we will look at after we’ve looked at the pod.

Uwell Aeglos Pod

Apart from the connection the pod is pretty typical of a square pod.

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit pod

A lot of the Liquid capacity is under the mouthpiece section so the capacity looks a lot smaller than it is.

Uwell Aeglos Airflow

The Airflow adjustment on the Aeglos is located in the pod port on the mod.

It is formed by a disk with 2 notches pointing up which act as handles. To adjust the airflow you have to remove the pod and rotate the disk.

Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit airflow

Instead of restricting the airflow holes all together, the outer holes stay the same and there is a hole under the disk that opens or closes.

This is all well and good, I do like it… However that means it’s harder to see the current airflow setting.

To check you have to hold the device up to the light and check if you can see all the way thought the airflow hole, take off the pod or suck on it, obviously.

When the Airflow if fully open it is fairly free, very free for a 60W pod system.

With the airflow fully closed, I can’t say it isn’t restrictive but I was able to pull a restrictive DTL draw (RDL).

Uwell Aeglos Mouth Piece Fill Port

I’ve seen this once or twice but it’s not really that common.

The mouth piece comes off from the pod to expose the fill hole.

Pod Kit pod fill

In the middle is the ‘chimney’ then on one side is the fill hole which has an anti leak seal, which is great at preventing the liquid coming back out while you’re filling.

On the other side is a small hole to let the air out.

I do love that style because it makes filling super easy and stress free.

The top of the mouth piece is quite big measuring at 23.5 x 8.5mm, despite it being quite big, it fits the month surprisingly well.

The hole in the middle of the mouthpiece is 7.5 x 6mm.

Using The Uwell Aeglos Pod Kit

Changing the Aeglos Coils

Pod Kit coil

  • Remove the pod by pulling it directly up
  • Holding the pod upside down, pull the coil out
  • Install the new coil
  • Fill and leave for 10 minutes to allow the coil to soak.

Be aware the coil is pretty hard to grab.

Filling the Uwell Aeglos Pod

  • With the pod on the mod, remove the mouth piece by pushing it towards the front of back of the mod, holding the base of the pod for extra support.
  • Fill through sealed fill hole
  • Reapply the mouth piece by pushing downwards
  • Fill and wait for the coil to soak

Adjusting The Airflow

  • Remove the pod from the mod
  • Rotate the airflow ring to your preference
  • Reapply pod

Uwell Aeglos Operations

  • Power On/Off = Fire button 5 times within 2 seconds
  • Lock/Unlock all buttons = hold fire and ‘-‘ for 1 second
  • Lock/Unlock ‘-‘ and ‘+’ buttons = hold fire and ‘+’ for 1 second
  • Wattage adjustment = Press ‘+’ or ‘-‘, hold to go fast, loops around from 60w to 5w and visa versa
  • Clear puff counter = press and hold ‘+’ and ‘-‘ for 2 seconds

How Does The Uwell Aeglos Perform

UN2 Meshed-H 0.23ohm Aeglos Coil

This coil is designed to be used Direct To Lung at 40-45W, which is rather specific…

I mostly used it with 10mg Got Salt Peachy Promise (50VG/50PG), but I did use it with 70vg/30pg liquids and it performed about the same but with a bit thicker clouds.

UN2 Meshed-H 0.23ohm Coil

So let’s start way down. At 30w we get a very small flavour production (but the flavour is present) and a small cloud.

40W provides a small to medium sized cloud with a decent but not an overall impressive flavour.

At the top, 45w, provides a fulfilling flavour which doesn’t flood the mouth, but let’s be fair it is only 45w. It also give a medium sized cloud.

Now the interesting part, I spent a full day using this coil at 60w.

It performed OK but it really isn’t worth burning out your coil or draining your battery faster.

The coil coped with it perfectly fine but the flavour wasn’t any better, if anything it was lessened a little bit.

0.8ohm Aeglos Coil

The 0.8ohm Aeglos coil is designed to be used Mouth To Lung, with the recommended wattage of 20-23w. So it’s pretty specific again. I used it with the Got Salt Peachy Promise.

Way down at 15w you get a fair amount of vapour and a hint of flavour, it’s ample to be fair.

0.8ohm Coil

At 20w it’s pretty impressive. It give out a great MTL flavour which is nice and prominent.

The vapour production is similar to the smoke from a cigarette, if not a little more.

Up to 23w and not much has changed, as expected the vapour and flavour is upped slight, but it’s not a drastic difference.

Over the top to 30w and oh my goodness, although the flavour taste slightly burnt it practically floods the mouth, and the vapour is plentiful.

The interesting thing, is with the airflow fully open you can easy use this coil at 30W DTL and the flavour is actually really good.

Uwell Aeglos Battery and Charging

The Uwell Aeglos has a 1,500mAh battery, which usually lasted me most of the day using the 0.8ohm coil but with the 0.23ohm coil it struggled to last.

Lets take a look at what you can expect.

bottom and usbc charger

  • At 23w, you can expect a 2 second puff every other minute for about 14 hours.
  • At 45w, you can expect a 2 second puff every other minute for about 7 hours.

The Uwell website claims the battery take an hour to charge, but it has a 2A charge rating, which suggests it can fully charge in 45 minutes.

So I plugged it in and kept a close eye on it and it took 1 hour and 10 minutes to fully charge from dead.

I think we can let Uwell off with that.

Uwell Aeglos Self Cleaning System & Leak

Uwell says the self cleaning technology can:

an absorb e-liquid in the condensation holder through regular usage and vaporize it, no need to worry about leakage and keep the device clean.

So to me that suggests, the self cleaning technology is a system where it reduces leakage, and reuses any potential condensation…

I have no idea how we are supposed to check if that working but I can happily say I haven’t witnessed any leakage from the system.

After 3 days of using it the out edge of the pod base has some liquid on it, but I dried it off and it hasn’t come back since.

Pros

  • Great MTL Vaping
  • Good For DTL Vaping
  • No Leaking
  • Fast Charging
  • Easy to use.

Cons

  • Pod connection uses ledges
  • Hard to grab coils

Final Review Verdict

I often say the problem with AIO systems is they are usually MTL systems that can do DTL… To emphasise on that, I mean they can usually do both but perform better at MTL than DTL.

That’s the case here too, but don’t get it twisted, I’m not saying it isn’t good at DTL because it is but at the end of the day it’s only a 45W DTL system (limited by the coils not by the mod).

Even with higher power coils, the mod is only limited to 60, so it’s never going to be a full on sub-ohm kit.

It’s quite important we mention that, because [in my opinion] if you’re looking for a higher wattage sub-ohm pod, you need to be looking for a pod mod not a simple pod system like this.

Uwell said they tried to take the Aeglos back to the simple pods we were using not too long ago and they have done really well at that.

It provides a great MTL experience, a good DTL experience, it’s simple and easy to use.

I’m sure the battery could be a bit bigger, but it’s ample for MTL.

The biggest downside for this system has to be the pod system connection, I know a lot of people don’t trust that type of system and I completely understand why.

uwell-aeglos-pod-kit-reviewLoss of points for the hard to grip coil and the connection. I took points of for display and functions because it is ultra basic, so lack functions, but left points on because in this case it isn't such a bad thing, when simplicity is the aim. Took points off from ease of use because of the removal of coils...
