The Dovpo Blotto RTA is a collaboration with one of the most popular vape personalities on the scene.

If you don’t know who Sam Parsons AKA Vaping Bogan is, he’s an Aussie e-cig reviewer who personally I watch quite often. He’s a potty mouth for sure (Put politely) but he knows his stuff, he’s as honest and independent as they come and he has also enjoyed some success with a number of products his own.

Blotto RTA and boxThe Vandy Vape Bonza line including the Bonza RDA, a version 1.5 and the Bonza Mechanical Mods have all done quite well and he also had some input into the Vandy Vape Jackaroo Kit which I reviewed not too long ago and I was impressed.

This time around he’s teamed up with Dovpo to create a Rebuildable Tank Atomiser (RTA) and its clear to see he’s put his stamp on it… Literally!

What Can We Expect From the Dovpo Blotto RTA?

At a glance this is a big RTA, with bottom airflow and a large skull engraved onto the inner chamber its pretty cool if you ask me.

Dovpo Blotto RTA tank and brandingBeing bottom airflow always raises questions about the tanks resistivity to leaking and purely relies on how well you wick your build. So it’s fair to say I expect, if my wicking is not done right, that the Blotto RTA has every chance of leaking.

Apart from that, looking at the specification, and the 242 degree airflow on the deck – Im hoping for good things from this RTA. Will it be good enough to land a spot on our best RTA list? We shall see.

Let’s crack on and see how this performs!

Key Features

Let’s not beat around the bush, its all about the deck, and clearly with this deck, its about the airflow. Which comes in from everywhere.

Along with this multitude of little holes and ramps on either side of the coil placement for even more air, the deck seems fairly simple and can easily take a dual coil build, and probably more comfortably a single coil build.

Build deck without coilsFurther to this, the Blotto comes with 3, yes 3 tube options. Pre-Installed is the 2ml TPD straight glass tube, and you also get a 6ml capacity Glass Bubble, and an Ultem Bubble as well which can also take 6ml of e-liquid. Nicely done. However it just reminds me of a Lego Head!

glass optionsI wasn’t too sure about the Ultem bubble at first, until I put it on the RTA and immediately liked it. With the matchy matchy Drip-Tip it suits the tank beautifully. And fortunately its see-thru enough to keep an eye on your e-liquid level.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Black version of the Blotto RTA which comes with a matching Ultem/Black Drip-Tip. It certainly looks bigger than it is, with a 25mm diameter its a great size for most mods and in general everything fits nice and snug.blotto parts

Drip-Tip and Top-Cap

At the top is an 810 Drip-Tip which is slightly low-profile in comparison to most 810’s, but it has a nice wide bore and is very comfortable – Maybe a little too short for my liking but still nice.

The Drip-tip itself looks like it comes in 2 sections thanks to the black ring below the top Ultem part, but they don’t seem to be removable from each other.

drip tip | mouthpieceThe Top-Cap has some lovely ridges to it, making it easy to grip and twist off to fill the tank. It also has the inner large O-Ring on the top meaning you can use most 810 Drip-Tips.

On the underside of the Top-Cap is a large silicon ring to stop any top-leakage.top cap and top fill port

Inner Chamber

The chamber also combines the Top-Fill filling slots which are huge, and kidney shaped.

Theres a lovely conical shape to the inner chamber which usually points towards a nice smooth flavourful vape.Dovpo Blotto RTA review

Deck

Extremely hard to explain, images might be of some use for this section. Im basically calling this a Semi-Post-Less deck with bottom and side airflow thanks to the Airflow Posts.

Its almost similar in style to the Wotofo Recurve airflow design but mixed with other airflow styles. Like a hybrid!

Clearly the deck is capable of managing a dual coil build, with a single coil build being more preferable if you like loads of airflow.

side view of build deck without coilsAnd when it comes to a dual coil build, don’t expect to be throwing in anything too monstrous as you’ll simply run out of room and massI’vely reduce that room for air to flow.

The 4 clamps for the coils are nice and chunky and as yet I’ve had no problems. I wouldn’t suggest clamping the coils down too hard but that goes without saying with any deck where the screws can push back up against the top of each terminal.

Airflow

On either side at the bottom of the RTA is multiple airflow holes, which are fully adjustable and turn nice and smooth. And they do make a difference.

Blotto RTA airflowOf course you will notice much more airflow with a single coil build in the deck in comparison to a dual coil build which tends to take up most of the room inside the deck.

The Base

The base has a gold plated slightly protruding 510 pin which is removable and you have the usual images on the bottom including Vaping Bogans signature, logo and batch number.base and 510 pin

How Does The Dovpo Blotto RTA Perform?

Building on the Blotto RTA

Like I’ve said, this deck can happily handle a single or dual coil build.

During my time with the Blotto, I’ve mainly built a Dual coil build using some of Vandy Vapes Triple Fused Claptons, 0.3ohms and have a 3mm inner diameter. Almost the perfect size for this deck, you could push it to a 4mm ID but you’ll be struggling for room, and airflow for that matter.

If you’re a single coiler, I suggest a nice fat coil with 6-7 wraps. The build below came out at 0.45 and was very good. I just prefer the dual coil setup and the performance was a little better too.

Single coil build on blotto rtaThe Blotto does come with its own handy bottle opener come coil cutting tool, and works just fine.

Blotto Coil toolBut just incase you loose it whilst opening bottles down the boozer, a 4-4.5mm trim with your coily tool does the job perfect and allows the coil to sit exactly where you want them.

Using the coily toolSimply trim the 2 coils to length and screw down the first coil with the flat-head screws.

Blotto RTA building and coil alignment step 2Its probably a good idea at this point to check the coil length by aligning the coil into place before fitting the second coil

Aligning coil on Dovpo Blotto RTAOnce you’re happy with the coil position, move onto coil number 2.

Dual coil Dovpo Blotto RTA buildIf anything you want to keep the coils fairly close to the 2 airflow posts to allow for extra cooling, whilst also allowing that bottom fed air to flow right up to your mouth.

Side view of Blotto RTA buildOnce in place and positioned, pulse the coils to remove any hotspots and ensuring the coils are heating from the centre out.

Pulsing the Dovpo Blotto coilsAfter a gently pulse or two they may look a little like the image above, but with a gentle strum with some ceramic pliers you’ll notice the the centre of the coils will glow red first.

Full pulse of coilsOnce thats done, just double check the alignment of the coils. You want to make sure the coils aren’t touching anywhere, are centred and allowing that 242 degree airflow to work its magic.

With any RTA, wicking is the key. Too much cotton and it won’t be saturated enough after a few hits, too loose and you’ll flood the tank.

Ive put a good handful of builds in the Blotto RTA now and to be honest, unless you don’t go mad with the cotton, it works quite well either way.

Gently slide your cotton through both coils and don’t be afraid to leave too much cotton out of each side.

Wicking the Blotto RTA before trimmingWhen it comes to trimming to size, you can go a little under, or a little over. Its fairly forgiving I found. Trimming the cotton back beyond the base of the deck is fine, which does leave a little overhang in the juice-well slots.

I found using the base of the RTA as your trim line worked perfect and allowed enough cotton to fill the wicking ports, whilst not being packed in too tight.

diagram of where to cut cottonTrimmed down to size, it’s worth giving the cotton a little rake through to limit any compacted cotton causing you problems.

Cuttin the wicksGently tuck the cotton into the juice flow slots and saturate with the best vape juice you have to hand.

E Juice on the Blotto RTA coilsOnce you’re happy with the cotton placement, have a quick check to make sure its not stuffed in too tight or that gaps are apparent which could cause leaking.

Flavour and Clouds

For this review I started off vaping on Raspberry Milk by The Rochford Projects, but also gave my usual Darkstar’s Code-Red a try to see how the flavour compared to other RTA’s.

top view of build deckUsing a pair of 3mm ID 0.3ohm Vandy Vape coils, at 100w with the airflow all the way open, the flavour is immense!

Im not the biggest RTA fan out there, and thats purely down to the fact I can find the whole wicking lessons you have to go through with every RTA a little painstaking. So I generally stick to RDA’s.

Fortunately however I cracked the Blotto wicking technique fairly quickly and Ive been enjoying a leak-free, full flavour vape for days now.

With regards to vapour production – this is a monster cloud chucker. Maybe a little too much at times, so dropping the power down to 90w at times was just the ticket.

The airflow is super smooth and there isn’t any turbulence or whistle. Of course the smaller the build the more air you will get, but with the build I have in, its ever so slightly restrictI’ve which suits me perfectly.

Overall the Dovpo Blotto RTA performs amazingly, in-fact I would go as far as to say this is my favourite RTA I’ve ever had the opportunity to review and test.

Its absolutely brilliant, especially if you love big clouds and full flavour – Which most of us do of course.

Jackaroo mod with Blotto RTAMy only minor niggle would be that the glass, or Ultem is prone to spinning as its purely clamped down by the O-Rings. Its not a big deal really but if for whatever reason you want to check the build, but don’t want to empty the tank.

The Glass (Or Ultem) isn’t fixed to the top/bottom in any form apart from compression, so the moment you unscrew the base from the chamber theres every possibility your e-liquid will leak out of the glass/Ultem.

Pros

  • A big solid RTA
  • Easy to build on
  • Immense cloud production
  • Smooth and silky airflow
  • Top Notch Flavour
  • Looks great even with Ultem tube

Cons

  • Bottom airflow prone to leaks if wicking incorrect
  • Unable to check deck easily with e-liquid still in tank
  • Glass/Ultem can spin round even when tightened.
  • Doesn’t come with any pre-made coils

Final Review Verdict

From top to bottom this is a well thought out RTA with only minor niggles, which may not bother you but are worth mentioning.

The deck is unique but similar to others, but that multiple-directional airflow configuration allows for a lovely smooth vape even at high wattages, with the only restriction to that airflow being the size of build you throw in.

The build deck is easy enough to build on as long as you use a coil cutting tool, and the wicking is fairly forgiving regardless of cutting the wicks a little too long or a little too short.

Everything else about this RTA is simple, from filling to maintenance I really haven’t come across anything I’m not keen on.

I can count the RTA’s I own on 2 hands, so I’m not the most experienced, but all I can say is that I throughly enjoy building on, and vaping on the Blotto RTA and this has become my new ‘Benchmark’ RTA.

Great Job Dovpo and great Job Vaping Bogan.

dovpo-blotto-rta-reviewMy favourite RTA of the year. In fact ever! What this RTA does really well is replicate the experience you get from a decent RDA, but with a tank included. Which lets face it, is what we want from any RTA. Theres only a few minor gripes which I'm really not fussed about so if you're after a new RTA for big clouds and great flavour, the Blotto RTA is absolutely a great option.

  1. im looking at getting an rta and currently looking at this or zeus x rta. which would you recommend out of the two?

  2. I have had mine since Sept. My fave rta-like you I’m not a huge RTA fan.

I do hate the bubble glass and I use the straight glass. I had a pair of 3 mm coils on it and the airflow was so restricted I switched out to a pair of 2.5 aliens and the airflow is so much better.

I really don’t like having to empty the juice to check the build but I can pretty much tell when the flavor starts to get gunky and it’s time to change my cotton and clean my coils so it works out.

I only have about 6 rtas and this is the my one I like. I don’t even like rba coils on subohms. Honestly, my fave is squonking but this tank is great.

The only thing I cannot attest to is the bubble glass as I will never use it. I take the bubble glass off of every tank that comes with it. I just am not a bubble glass fan.

Also, it is an intimidating build deck but it truly super easy once you cut your coil legs. I’ve yet to try a single build but I’m happy with what’s there at the moment.

Great review from you and I have been vaping since 2015 and I wish I would have started reviewing. Have a great day.

  3. I bought one after reading your review like it a lot, the only thing I’m not so crazy about is the amount of condensation that accumulate at the bottom it drives me mental that’s why I’m always hesitant to buy bottom airflow . Personally I think they should invert it and put that beautiful airflow on the top . Nothing worse than wet mods and tank bottoms in my opinion
