In my hands for review today is the Vaporesso Luxe X kit!

I seem to find myself in a weird place where I’m finding great joy in ‘Sub-Categorising’ pod systems to help me assist the viewer/reader in understanding the type of pod system I’m reviewing.

There are a million different types of pod kits on the market, from super simple MTL disposable systems, to fully adjustable airflow and wattage kits with replaceable coils and capable of an MTL, RDL and DL draw.

We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vape Styles.

At first glance, the Vaporesso Luxe X appears to be hitting the ‘Advanced Pod User’ category with its 180 degree airflow adjustment, high power and large battery life.

But once you open the box and try it out – you realise the Vaporesso Luxe X is almost as simple as they come.

What Can We Expect From the Luxe X by Vaporesso?

The Vaporesso Luxe X is, in my opinion along the same lines as the Smok Nord and is similarly styled to Vaporesso’s own Luxe PM40, but with perhaps…less quirks.

The Luxe X offers a 1500mAh battery, USB-C charging, refillable pods, a 40W maximum output just like the PM40 and it also has a ‘clever’ 180 degree airflow adjustment system. More on that later.

So what exactly can we expect from this stripped down version of the Vaporesso PM40? Well aside from performance, the looks of this device are certainly quite unique, carrying on a trend from other manufacturers where you can see the chipset through the clear body.

This has fixed coil pods – meaning the pods are refillable but you dispose of them when the coil performance has deteriorated over time.

Inside the pod is the new Corex technology which consists of a Morph-Mesh coil structure with Cumulus Cotton wicking. Plus the SSS Leak Resistant technology will help prevent leaks.

There are 2 pod resistances available and you get both in the kit, 0.4ohm for DTL (Direct To Lung) vapers and 0.8ohm for MTL (Mouth To Lung) vapers.

There are 7 colours to choose from: Black, Silver, Grey, Blue, Green, Purple and Red.

I expect this device to just be a fun, day to day system. Let’s see.

So let’s crack on with the review and see what the Vaporesso Luxe X is all about.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Green variant of the Luxe X which is actually quite a dark, Army style Green which is nicely complimented by a Black plastic base which fades quite beautifully to clear to display the chipset.

The lower Black section of the device also hides 3 small, but bright LED indicators that glow when vaping and the rear of the pod shimmers in the sun with a metallic silver ‘LUXE X’ design.

Overall this LOOKS, like a pretty cool bit of kit. Very smart and modern with some nice techy touches to really make it a 2022 style of device.

The rounded rectangle fire button protrudes nicely from the device and has a nice click to it and at the base of the device is the USB-C port which offers a 1.5A charge rate for the 1500mAh battery inside.

The Luxe X Pods

Included in the kit are two pods of different resistances, a 0.4Ω mesh and a 0.8Ω mesh pod. Both pods have non-replaceable coils but they do have a 5ml capacity if you manage to get your hands on the non-TPD 2ml versions.

The pods themselves have a large ‘duck billed’ mouthpiece which I personally find quite comfortable and the bottom fill rubber plug is very well hidden but once found, isn’t too tricky to remove in order to fill.

The fill port itself is actually a fair size but still take your time to fill as there isn’t an additional breather hole to release air, when filling.

The way the airflow restriction is adjusted on the Luxe X pods is simply by flipping the pods 180° and reinstalling. So that does mean this has a limited airflow adjustment feature, but personally I feel the difference between the airflow restriction is too subtle to be noticed that much. More on airflow a little later on in the review.

It can be a little tricky to work out which way to flip the pod to get more, or less airflow. I’ve found lining up the larger airflow hole on the underside of the pod up with the wider hole on the device is the way to get more airflow.

Vaporesso Luxe X In the Hand

The Luxe X is in the same realms as the Nord 5 by Smok. A small, portable device but yet has a bit of girth and a solid feel to it.

In the hand, I’ve enjoyed the Luxe X as a thumb firer with my fingers wrapped around the device. Due to the curvature of the corners, it’s a fairly comfy device to hold and use.

Its 1500mAh battery doesn’t affect its weight either. It’s not exactly lightweight but it’s by no means heavy either. Even with a pod full of e-liquid.

In the hand, the Luxe X feels solid with a really good feel, even though the outer shell is of plastic construction, it’s a well-built feeling device and I’m sure it could survive a drop or two.

Quick Start Guide

How To Fill the Luxe X Pod.

Here’s how to fill the pod with e-liquid:

  • Remove the pod from the device
  • Lift the rubber bung via the small flap
  • Fill with your desired e-liquid
  • Re-fit the rubber bung
  • Leave the pod to sit for 5 minutes to allow the e-liquid to saturate the coil

Vaporesso Luxe X Functions

Unfortunately the Luxe X only really has the two functions to remember.

5 clicks on, 5 clicks off. Press to fire.

Although Vaporesso’s smart chipset will automatically detect the resistance of your coil and set the wattage accordingly, it would have been nice to have some adjustment.

It’s also the style of kit that would certainly benefit from an Automatic Draw system, however that’s another feature that Vaporesso didn’t include so the only way to vape the Luxe X is to press the fire button. Bit of a shame.

How Does the Vaporesso Luxe X Perform?

Like I mentioned at the start of this review, I really expected this device to be a diverse, multi-use Pod system with some advanced features. However after my initial airflow tests, it was clear this is pretty much a DL/RDL device or if you like a really, REALLY loose MTL draw, then perhaps the 0.8Ω might be your ticket.

If any of these terms are over your head – have a read of our handy guides below!

Nonetheless, I filled both pods with Braw & Blasda’s, Baked & Shaked Lemon Bake Shake (That’s a mouthful) and spent a full week trying out both pods. At work, in the evenings, wherever possible. And here are my findings.

Vaporesso Luxe X – 0.4Ω Pod

The 0.4Ω mesh pod performs great! But let me rephrase.

If you enjoy a slightly restrictive direct lung vape – The Luxe X is a great option for a Pod System. With the pod set in the more open airflow setting, wattage set automatically by the device – the flavour, general vape experience and vapour production is very impressive.

I do however feel the 0.4Ω pod would benefit from a little bump up in wattage to pull out a little bit more warmth and less of a long pull required.

Nonetheless – the flavour is one of the best I’ve tried from a device this size and this style.

Flipping the pod over to the more restrictive airflow, makes very little difference. A slight bit more restriction but not very noticeable, in fact I spent a lot of time flipping the pod around trying to figure out which side was more or less restrictive.

Vaporesso Luxe X – 0.8Ω Pod

With the 0.8Ω pod installed, I instantly assumed it was designed for an MTL experience. How wrong was I.

Although the restriction is certainly tighter than the 0.4Ω pod, it’s just not restrictive enough to be a true, or even loose MTL vape.

Sure you can just about get away with an MTL vape when the pod is set at the tighter airflow option, but for me, and possibly for you it’s just not tight enough to be enjoyed.

Put it this way, if you can direct lung an MTL-based pod without pulling air in through the sides of your mouth, it’s not an MTL pod.

So onto using this pod as an RDL (Restrictive Direct Lung) and it’s certainly more enjoyable. With the pod set at the more open airflow option, it delivers a fairly tight direct lung draw, with impressive flavour and vapour production for a 0.8Ω mesh coil.

Airflow

Overall the airflow is smooth and comfortable to vape on and the noise isn’t really noticeable. However the airflow in general just doesn’t offer enough options, nor does the actual airflow experience change very much depending on which way you flip the pod. It makes a difference, but only very little.

Battery Life & Charging

When a device has a 1000mAh battery capacity or higher, you really hope to enjoy at least a 1 Amp charge with a USB-C port. Vaporesso have gone a little step higher than that and the device apparently features a 1.5A charge rate.

However during my testing I maxed out at 1 amps – Not sure what’s going on there Vaporesso?

Either way it’s actually a fairly quick charger, getting from basically dead, to three full bars of battery in a little over an hour.

During charging the LED indicators wave and glow until fully charged.

The odd thing about this device is how the performance, or power as such drops quite dramatically, and it’s not when you’re down to one LED indicator. I’ve found a number of times where the device will still display 2 LED indicators, but the power output is noticeably lacking.

Does the Vaporesso Luxe X Leak?

During my time testing the Luxe X, neither pod has leaked in any way and only the smallest amount of condensation was found inside the pod housing. So overall I’m pretty confident leaking isn’t going to be an issue with the Vaporesso Luxe X.

Pros

  • Really good DL/RDL vape experience
  • Looks pretty cool
  • Very simple to use
  • Great flavour on the 0.4Ω
  • Solid look and well built.

Cons

  • No auto-draw system
  • Airflow adjustment offers very little options
  • Power output can be iffy
  • True charge-rate unknown

Final Review Verdict

So after all my excitement, all the ‘Ooohh this looks smart, and Ohhhh flipping the pod changes the airflow’

After all that – I’m left with what I’ve called this review, A One Trick Pony.

Don’t get me wrong, the one trick it does well, a decent DL vape is a really good flavour filled vape and a decent cloud. But everything else is a little lacklustre.

I completely understand that a lot of folks want a super simple system that just works. And the Luxe X does work. very well in fact. But that’s only if you’re looking for a slightly restrictive DL vape experience.

Anything other than that, I’d look elsewhere.

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

I’ve no concerns over the life-span of the Vaporesso Luxe X. Like all other rechargeable systems with non-replaceable batteries, eventually the device’s battery will start to degrade and not last as long. But the build quality alone leaves me with enough confidence to believe the Luxe X will certainly last a solid 12 months plus.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

This question is interesting with the Luxe X, because the fact is – the Luxe X vapes really great. A wonderful cloudy vape with the 0.4Ω pod installed, regardless of the airflow setting. Aside from that, it’s a little confused.

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper and an experienced one alike?

The Vaporesso Luxe X would be ideal for something who is perhaps into MTL pod systems but fancies trying Direct Lung vaping just for every now and then. Or perhaps for the daily dog walk. I’m not quite sure this device is any good for a DL vaper who chugs like a train as the battery probably won’t last as well as you’d hope, nor is the airflow actually loose enough for a nice airy draw.

However I feel the flavour the Luxe X delivers will win a lot of people over.

Have you bought the Vaporesso Luxe X kit?

Or have you given it a try?

Flat Cap Vaper Reivews
FlatCap Vaper

Hey Folks. Im Gaz, The Flat-cap Vaper. I’m 35, married with 3 kids and I just love Flatcap's and Vaping! I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 500,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

vaporesso-luxe-x-reviewIf all you're looking for is a pocket rocket to last half an hour the Luxe X is a great option. A wonderfully flavour-filled vape with the 0.4Ω pod but just doesn't have enough functionality or diversity to suit more types of vapers.

  1. I’ve been using the Luxe x on and off for a few months now ( I bought it as a back up, I drop my mods so often I go through them like crazy… I know its my own fault) anyway. I really want to like it.. The weight, feel in my hand and hit is perfect for me… however after 2 days it Always tastes burnt ( yes, I let it sit between 5 to 10 minutes before I take a hit) ( and I never let the juice get to low) and I’ve been using it with the larger open airflow like he suggested above. I don’t understand why mine keeps doing this. The shop keeps giving me the .8 pod. I keep telling them my issue with it and they insist this is a great unit. So here I am months later giving it another shot because my other mod broke again…lol. There was a new employee in the vape shop today and suggested I try the .4 pod. I am praying that it don’t taste like burnt cotton after 2 days. If anyone has any suggestions or has had a similar experience please let me know or I’m going to go broke replacing the pod every other day.

  2. This device was great with no issues whatsoever, until I had to replace pod. Now I’m not so sure. Constantly leaks regardless what or how I fill it etc. Bought pods from different reputable stores not going to waste any more money on this. I have now gone back to my old one which has never let me down.

  3. Basically, this is an RDL device. That’s exactly what I was looking for, highly portable, flavorful, with some nice, (not huge), cloud performance. Simple to use without messing with sub-ohm tanks and coils and weighty box mods on the move. BTW, Vaporesso has since released a 0.6 ohm pod, sorta between the .4 and .8 pods. I think the Luxe X is a great device. Nice review.
