In for review is the brand new Voopoo ARGUS P1 pod kit.

Voopoo Argus P1 pod kit hand checkToday I’m taking a look at the latest member of the ever expanding Voopoo ARGUS range of devices. It’s quite possibly the smallest pod kit I’ve ever gotten my hands on!

The ARGUS range has undergone something of a transformation since its birth. We’ve had starter pod kits such as the ARGUS Pod and ARGUS Air. For the intermediary vaper, Voopoo responded with the ARGOS PRO and ARGUS X.

The range then crossed vaping boundaries with the likes of the ARGUS GT2 and ARGUS XT. These were powerful, full on sub ohm vaping kits using glass tanks instead of PCTG pods.

..It almost feels like Voopoo have done a swift 180 before the bubble bursts.

That’s because this latest pod kit is far removed from the design and build of anything else in the range. It also symbolises a return to the beginning for the ARGUS series.

This is not showing on the official Voopoo website as yet so this is a very early review as it has not been officially released!

What Can We Expect From the Voopoo ARGUS P1 Pod Kit?

As a first for the ARGUS range we get a very futuristic, mechanical design. Half metal, half transparent, the device demonstrates a sturdy and sophisticated look. Both materials feature gentle bevelling to ensure maximum comfort when held.

As well as the GENE AI 1.2 chip being on show through the transparent side, a total of four LED’s are visible. More on these later.

The GENE AI 1.2 chip is capable of adjusting power by sensing each puff automatically. Since the device relies entirely on auto draw the chip automatically detects draw strength and calculates an appropriate wattage to suit.

Voopoo Argus P1 pod kit boxed imageThe Pod is equipped with Voopoo’s ITO atomization technology to bring an enhanced MTL vaping experience. We tell you what MTL means in our Guide To Vape Styles.

We get PD fast type C charging capability which makes it possible to recharge a spent battery within 18 minutes.

..I’ll obviously be testing that.

An adjustable slider has been incorporated into the side of the device. This should provide a degree of airflow flexibility when switching between either of the two included pods.

The Voopoo ARGUS P1 is brand new. At the time of writing details were filtering through. Some things may have been overlooked such as colour schemes (I’ve got the Gunmetal version in) but I’ll try to be as thorough as possible when testing the device.

Voopoo ARGUS P1 Pod Kit – Design and Build Quality

Battery Section

When viewed without the pod attached, the battery section isn’t far off being cubed in shape. It’s very lightweight and yet looks capable of withstanding a few knocks. It has the durability factor.

The contouring or softening around the edges, front and rear panels are very well designed. This makes it very comfortable to hold.

An adjustable airflow slider is incorporated into the side. Airflow settings do look limited but it appears easy enough to use. Underneath this we have the type C charging port.

It’s always a bonus being able to charge a device in a vertical position.

A gold plated lanyard clip is built into the top corner of the battery. It’s pretty cool being able to see where it terminates through that transparent window.

Four LED’s are also visible inside the battery section. This really does add to that futuristic design claim.

Pod Section

Even the pod has a futuristic design, following the curves and contours of the battery section. As a result, the mouthpiece is extremely comfortable.

Contouring on the Argus P1 pod

It attaches to the battery section via two relatively strong magnets. Let’s put it this way – it passed the drop test despite being less recessed than many others.

Another bonus is that all the e-juice is visible through the perfectly clear PCTG window.

The fill tab is easy enough to open (even for someone lacking finger nails!). Just remember to pull on the end that’s indicated by an arrow.

Fill tab on the Voopoo Argus P1 pod kit

I’d have to say the actual pod opening is only really suited to needle type bottle nozzles. That’s because the pod lacks an air release valve.

The ARGUS P1 pod uses the patented Voopoo ITO technology. Its role is to increase the atomization area inside the coil while increasing heat up time.

A three level leak proof structure is also in place. This includes an air tight silicone ring, air tight silicone seal and a four hole leak proof structure.

In other words the coils are factory sealed inside the pod. It’s disposable.

It’s worth bearing in mind the pod is compatible with the original ARGUS pod kit.

The Voopoo ARGUS P1 pod kit comes complete with two pods. One is designed for a restrictive lung hit (0.7ohm) and the other for a MTL vape (1.2ohm).

Quick Start Guide – How To Fill the Pod

  • Remove the pod from the battery section
  • Locate the arrow on the fill tab and carefully lift to expose the fill port
  • Push the bottle nozzle into the fill port and gently squeeze e-liquid into the pod chamber
  • Filling the pod on the Voopoo Argus P1 pod kitReplace the fill tab ensuring a good seal
  • Drop the pod back into the battery section

Let the e-liquid soak into the cotton for around five minutes before vaping.

Voopoo Argus P1 Operation

The LED’s display the battery charge remaining.

  • 76 – 100% Four white LEDs
  • 51 – 75% Three white LEDs
  • 25 – 50% Two white LEDs
  • 1 -25% One Red LED

There are the usual array of safety protections. The LEDs respond according to the status:

  • Low battery: LED flashes red ten times
  • Short circuit: LED flashes red twice
  • Time Out: LED flashes red eight times
  • Over heat: LED flashes red fifteen times

While charging, the relevant number of LEDs will light up in accordance to current battery strength. All four LEDs remain lit once charging is complete.

They also respond when the pod is attached or removed.

How Does The Voopoo Argus P1 Pod Kit Perform?

ARGUS 1.2ohm Pod

I began by testing the 1.2ohm pod. I used Monster Vape Labs Killer Lemon Tart to test for flavour and cloud production. It’s a 50VG/50PG juice ratio perfectly suited for this coil.

Voopoo Argus P1 1.2ohm pod

With the airflow slider set to wide open the MTL vape is far too loose. As an effect, the flavour properties are diminished and vapour isn’t trapped inside the mouth the way it should be.

It was possible to get a heavily restricted direct lung pull but that wasn’t an ideal arrangement either.

All it took was a 50% restriction of the airflow slider to find what I was looking for. This time I could comfortably inhale for a few seconds before experiencing a finely tuned MTL vape.

The flavour is extremely satisfying. I got plenty of sweetness from the Lemon. The bakery elements are fantastically reproduced.

There’s even a moderate level of warmth generated by the coil. That’s something I wasn’t really expecting.

The inhale is completely turbulence free. This has to be one of the quietest vapes I’ve used for a long, long time. Full kudos to Voopoo on that!

You can close the airflow slider completely and still vape. For me, personally that’s too tight for a natural MTL draw.

ARGUS 0.7ohm Pod

Digby’s Custard Cream was used to test this one. It’s a 65VG/35PG juice ratio with 3mg freebase nicotine included. The chances are the pod is capable of anything up to 70VG/30PG but I don’t suggest anything thicker in volume.

0.7ohm pod of the Voopoo Argus P1 pod kitWith the airflow slider wide open the pod does produce a restricted direct lung vape. There’s no doubting that. There’s also no doubting the flavour quality. It’s incredible!

The juice ratio used allows for long pulls and no dry hits which was very pleasing. Cloud production also performed beyond what I was expecting. Plenty of volume on the way out.

Again, zero turbulence from this extremely quiet pod. The inhale is very smooth. I would have liked a little more warmth though. To really set off the biscuit notes of the profile.

As things stand, the dairy elements of the custard are on point. Rich, tasty and lasting for the duration of the vape.

The airflow slider shows its dynamic nature when altered. Closing it by 75% will allow a decent MTL vape. Admittedly it’s not quite up to the experience of the 1.2ohm pod but the option is there should you wish to dabble yourself.

Battery Performance and Recharging

I managed just over six and a half hours use from a single charge. During this time I was alternating between pods. For an 800mAh integrated battery I’d say that’s about average.

What I did notice was that while auto drawing the LED’s always illuminate to 4 bars. So it’s not an indication of current battery strength. To figure that out you’ll need to remove the pod and re insert it.

I’m thinking that’s something to be sorted for the official release. It’s important to remember I received an early sample version.

It took 25 minutes to recharge a flat battery. That’s still very impressive even if not quite what Voopoo claim under PD fast charging. I have no complaints.

The ARGUS P1 doesn’t support pass through charging either but when you’re up and vaping within half an hour does it really matter?

Pros

  • Fantastic flavour from both coils
  • Flawless auto draw
  • Leak free design of the pods
  • Ability to charge in an upright position
  • Light weight and pocket friendly
  • An effective airflow slider
  • Fast PD USB charging capabilities

Cons

  • Couldn’t figure out how to secure the lanyard! (most certainly subjective)

 Final Review Verdict

As you can see there’s really nothing to find fault with. Even then, I’m just being really picky and possibly a little silly! lol

The airflow slider works an absolute treat. Ok – there’s not really much versatility but it proves its metal with the MTL pod. One slight adjustment. One perfect mouth to lung vape!

These pods rate among the quietest I’ve vaped for a long time. Yet the coils produce enough clout to give excellent flavour. Voopoo have come up with a very efficient airflow system, leaving nothing to chance.

Filling the pods was much less hassle than I anticipated. It was a leak free experience despite the absence of an air release valve. Of course, being sealed there was also no worry of any day to day leakage. The pods remained bone dry throughout the test period.

The Voopoo Argus P1 pod kit is one I could wholeheartedly recommend to any vaper. Why do I say this? It performs – simple as that and it performs really well. No messing, no fussing and with an auto draw that flawlessly responds to even the weakest of inhales.

The subtle flavour nuances pull through. So that will appeal to more fussy vapers like myself. The ability to just pick up and vape will also appeal to the new or casual vaper.

Voopoo return with a cracking new pod kit that’s portable, pocket friendly and as easy to use as it gets. Try it for flavour. You’ll see what I mean.

  1. dude anyone help me , My argus p1 is very well kept i have never dropped it but i placed it in my drawer for 1 days and when came back and tried to hit it , it didn’t so then i took out the pod and shook it but only thing it does is just blink all the blue light bars once whenever i try to inhale , can anyone diagnose it ?

    • Give the pod and mod contacts a good clean. If this doesn’t work try a new pod.

If the fault persists I would take the device back to where you bought it as it might be faulty.

  2. I love this vape, except it keeps leaking juice through the airflow slider? No clue why, but it’s very annoying, can’t get it to stop and I’m afraid of it getting into the charging port. 😒

    • Is the fill port firmly closed? I have used the same pods on the Argus G and you have to push the port fully closed- it does take a bit of pushing!

If not fully closed you may get leaking from there?

  3. Mine keeps flashing 8 times with the red light. I believe that means time out?? But does that mean I need to stop as the device needs a break?

    • Nope it just means you are taking long vapes – sadly just looking at the instruction manual and it doesn’t say the maximum time you can vape in one go. Some devices it is either 8 or 10 second vapes. If you are inhaling longer than that the fire will stop.

You can use it again straight after, it just means it is cutting out the fire to prevent device overheating or accidental activation.

  4. Whilst vaping the lights show the power your using it confused me too, to get the battery level remove and put the pod back in. If you do a slight draw it will light up 1/2 medium draw 2/3 what id call a normal draw 3/4 not clear in instructions i felt.

  5. just bought this device today and its really satisfying no doubt ! using 1.2 Ohm and using 30mg liquid , flavour really coming up. Nice work

  6. To secure the lanyard to the gold-plated loop of the Argus P1, push the short, thin loop of string at the end of the lanyard (near the Voopoo logo) partway through the gold loop of the Argus P1, then push the other end of the lanyard through the thinner end you initially started with, Then pull it completely through the smaller loop of the lanyard, which will now be wrapped around the gold loop on the Argus P1… Hope that’s clear ?.
