In this vape review I’m looking at both the Voopoo Drag X/S Pro kits, so two reviews for the price of one!

It’s not been the longest amount of time since we saw the Launch of the Drag X Plus Professional Edition, a single battery device with a 510 connection up top.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro review

Voopoo is, in general, known for its devices that house its own Pod-Tank and have no flat-top.

Its most popular products of this type have been the the Drag X and Drag S and also the Argus Pro and Argus Mini.

Its been a fair while since Harley reviewed the Drag X Pod Mod (May 2020) so I guess that’s a fair amount of time to leave it before releasing a newer version?

So what’s new?

What Can We Expect From the Voopoo Drag X/S Pro ?

The newer versions of the Drag X and Drag S now include the TPP-X Pod-Tank, an updated version of the TPP Pod-Tank with updated/upgraded filling system.

Both still use the same TPP Coils, however, there are a couple of variants of the TPP coil to get your hands on.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro tanks and coils

The Drag X Pro makes use of a single 21700 battery or 18650 battery if you make use of the battery adaptor and can fire up to 100 watts

The Drag S Pro makes use of an internal 3000mAh battery and can fire up to 80 watts.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro batteries

Depending on which kit you go for, you will get slightly differing coils to better match the power output and battery capacity of the device. But you can still use any of the available coils on either device.

Both devices also make use of Voopoo’s updated Gene 3.0 Chipset which includes their upgraded boost mode which should clear some of the ‘underpowered‘ comments from their previous releases as it offer an 8.4v boost.

Generally speaking though, the Gene chip’s have been a very good performing chipset throughout their versions.

So let’s crack on with the review and see what this kit is all about.

This kit was sent to me free of charge for the purpose of review.

Design and Build Quality

I received the Garda Blue version of the Voopoo Drag X pro and the Sahara Brown version of the Drag S Pro.

There are only minor differences between the two devices, the obvious one being either the use of an internal battery (Drag S Pro) or the larger device (Drag X Pro) making use of your own 21700/18650.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro TPP-X Pod Tank

The updated TPP-X Pod Tank still makes use of the TPP coils which personally, I am a big fan of.

The 810 drip tip is removable and replaceable however you will have to make sure your replacement 810 drip tip has its own O-Rings, as there are none inside the drip tip housing.

The filling method is something I don’t think I’ve seen before, a fairly sizeable push button is located towards the top of the tank, and with a little push and clockwise slide, it reveals a silicon cover which will open up the juice port.

filling the Voopoo Drag X/S Pro

The silicon cover itself can be a little tricky to open up for a handful of times, but after a while you find the knack.

Once filled, you just slide the cover anti-clockwise until it clicks the button back into the locked position.

I had my concerns over the sliding mechanism damaging the silicon bung, however during my time with these devices, I’ve not had any problems at all.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro fill port

If you’re lucky enough to get hold of the Non-TPD version, the tank holds a respectable 5.5ml which is plenty for me, however my guess is the TPD versions will have a rubber bung inside reducing the e-liquid capacity to 2.0ml. The clear section appears to be PCTG or some form of plastic as opposed to glass.

The TPP-X Pod Tank uses Push-Fit coils and once you’re all filled with e-liquid and coils installed, the Pod simply clonks into the device thanks to three large magnets.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro Devices

Both devices are very similar in size, there is only 1cm height difference between the two.

Visually, both devices are almost identical with the very familiar leather-ish feeling surround along with a large rounded fire button, left and right adjustment button and a new addition by the way of a sliding On/Off or Lock/Unlock slider below the adjustment buttons.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro reviewed

Of course, both products also have a Type-C USB port for charging and firmware upgrades which are located below all the buttons and offer a 2 amp charge rate.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro In the Hand

Regardless of which device you opt for, they are designed to be portable and comfortable devices.

Weight wise there is not much difference and with the Drag X Pro being only 10mm taller, its barely noticeable.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro

I’ve preferred the Drag X Pro and Drag S Pro as thumb firers leaving your fingers wrapped around the leathery feeling surround.

The fire button is nicely rounded with a form on indentation meaning its comfortable to fire.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro – How To Fill the TPP-X Pod-Tank

Here’s how to fill the TPP-X pod with e-liquid:

  • Push in the open button at the top of the tank
  • Slide the ring clock-wise until it reveals the rubber bung
  • Lift the rubber tab
  • Fill with your desired e-liquid and allow to soak for 5 minutes
  • Re-fit the rubber tab and install into the device.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro Display Functions

Both the Voopoo Drag X Pro and S Pro have exactly the same screens and chipset, the only difference is the power output which is limited to 80 watts on the internal battery Drag S Pro version, and 100 watts on the external battery Drag X Pro version.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro buttons

Quick Start Guide

Here’s how to operate the device:

  • Device On/Off – 5 Clicks Fire Button
  • Lock/Unlock Device – Press & Hold Fire and Up Button
  • Puff Reset – Press & Hold Fire & Down Button
  • Change between Smart Mode & RBA – 3 Clicks Fire Button

When changing between Smart and RBA modes, you will also notice a small square with either A (Automatic Draw) or P (Manual Draw) or in fact A&P.

Changing this will of course change how you can vape, either via the automatic draw system, or manually using the Fire button. Or both!

How Does the Voopoo Drag X Pro & Drag S Pro Perform?

So this may take a short while to run through, but bare with me!

For all the coils listed below, I used Code Red by Darkstar. Its a 80VG 20PG e-liquid and I really wanted to see how the flavour and performance may differ between the different coils.

Voopoo Drag X Pro – Flavour and Clouds DM2 0.2Ω Coil

Recommended between 40-60 watts but best at 50-55 watts.

I’ve had this mostly at the Max 55 watts, sometimes even creeping to 60 watts and generally this a decent performing coil.

Not the best, but with the airflow quarter closed its a comfortable slightly warm vape with excellent vapour production and more than acceptable flavour.

Voopoo Drag X Pro – Flavour and Clouds DM3 0.15Ω Coil

Recommended between 85 and 95 watts but rated between 80 and 100 watts.

This coil makes use of what Voopoo call their ‘Dual In One’ Technology.

In simple terms, a tradition coil has two ends, a Positive and a Negative. With the DM3 and DM1 coils, the mesh is made with Two positive ends and One Negative end.

How does this affect performance?

Well I can tell you its a bleeding good coil!

At 75 watts, below the recommended I really enjoy this coil, excellent vapour production and some of the best flavour I’ve ever had, not just best from a sub ohm tank, but in general some of the best flavour I’ve had, from this e-liquid in anything…and that’s saying something!

One flaw to this coil – The power output required doesn’t do much good to your battery life, but the flavour is worth it.

With regards to airflow, this created a airy direct lung vape, which improves slightly if you close the airflow a little, but I’ve enjoyed the airflow wide open in general.

Voopoo Drag S Pro – Flavour and Clouds DM1 0.15Ω Coil

So this coil is extremely similar to the DM3 coil as its the same Dual In One style, and the flavour is very close to the DM3, but just not quite as good.

Recommended between 65-70 watts but with a rating of 60-80 watts, everything else is very similar, the slight warmth, the vapour production and the airflow.

But the flavour just doesn’t quite match the DM3. However – that doesn’t mean its a poor coil, its still very good, just not the same in every way.

Voopoo Drag S Pro – Flavour and Clouds DM4 0.3Ω Coil

Recommended at 35 watts but rated between 32 and 40 watts.

I found my sweet spot at 40 watts. This is a slightly more restrictive vape than any of the others, and the flavour for me just doesn’t match any of the other coils.

Its still a very good coil, but for a standard mesh coil, it performs like most of the mainstream standard mesh coils, with a slight restriction.

Voopoo Drag S Pro – Airflow

The adjustable airflow slider on the top of the devices has a nice feel and knurl to it making it easy to adjust and although the ring has no stopper.

It’s smooth enough to adjust and stays pretty much in the position you set it to.

With regards to noise, regardless of which coil you use, the noise across the range is fairly quiet.

Maybe a little noisy when wide open but their is no wishy washy sound, no whistle or turbulence.

The airflow actually feels fairly smooth but there is a very slight ruskyness to it.

What does ‘ruskyness‘ mean? I don’t know, its a made up word, but you can just feel a very slight rough feel in the airflow.

Voopoo Drag X/S Pro – Auto-Draw System.

With both devices, you have the ability to rest your thumbs or fingers and rely on the Auto-Draw system.

These kind of systems are generally used more for MTL systems and pod kits rather than larger, more powerful Direct Lung devices.

The idea actually works fairly well and after a few hours I was comfortable using these without physically pressing the fire button, however the Drag S Pro’s Auto-Draw system didn’t seem as sensitive as the Drag X Pro meaning I found I had to draw extremely hard to get it to Auto-Fire.

Battery Life & Charging

The 3000mAh battery is certainly large enough to last all day in the Drag S Pro however that really will depend what wattage you have the device set at, and how much you vape.

Personally with the DM1 coil requiring the 60-80 watts, it hasn’t lasted me a full day throughout the days I have been testing it, but if I’m honest, I vape a lot.

Does the Voopoo Drag X/S Pro Pod Mod Leak?

If I can give you any advice – remove the TPP-X Pod-Tank from the device if you plan on not using the device for the next 24-48 hours, because they do leak.

If you’re using this device every day, just keep an eye on the base of the tank and the inside top of the device as they can get a bit… damp.

Some of this is caused by condensation from when you vape, but some may be down to a very slight leak from the coils…I’m not too sure.

Pros

  • Excellent flavour across all coils
  • Easy to use
  • Bright clear display
  • Decent coil longevity
  • Build quality is decent.

Cons

  • Leaky coils still
  • Battery door on Drag X Pro is fairly weak
  • Auto-Draw system on Drag S Pro wasn’t very sensitive
  • The Drag S Pro has decent battery life, but could always be larger

Final Review Verdict

I think its fair to say, regardless of the minor negative’s I found with the Drag X Pro, Drag S Pro and the new TPP-X Pod Tank, I think they’ve pretty much done all they can with this series.

For such a small device it packs a fair punch and has all the simplicity of use and portability that people who use these kind of devices is looking for.

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

With regular care and cleaning of the device I’m pretty confident the Drag X Pro and Drag S Pro will make it into 2022.

If you plan on using the 3000mAh Drag S Pro version, then perhaps you’ll have to think about the fact at some point, that battery will fail and you’ll have to purchase another.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

One of the best tanks for flavour.

The ‘Dual In One’ coils are my favourite,  but not leaps and bounds above the rest, but generally all coils perform great.

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper, and an experienced one alike?

Considering the coils are designed for Direct Lung vaping and produce a fair amount of vapour, this is more for someone who has perhaps been vaping a while, or for an experienced vaper who just needs a spare kit for out and about.

Regardless – These kits are worth considering.

Have you bought the Voopoo Drag X Pro or Drag S Pro kit?

Or have you given it a try?

Flat Cap Vaper Reivews
FlatCap Vaper

Hey Folks. Im Gaz, The Flat-cap Vaper. I’m 35, married with 3 kids and I just love Flatcap's and Vaping! I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 500,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

voopoo-drag-x-pro-drag-s-pro-reviewAll in all, both these devices are very well put together. Lets be fair, Voopoo have had enough practice to get it right. And they're almost there. But I kind of hope they close this book now and move onto something new. But keep the TPP coils please.

  1. I have bought 2 different models, the drag S and the drag X. The drag x kept on turning itself off after every vape and, the drag X kept firing all by itself.
Although the battery life was good I would never buy another one.

  2. On my second drag x pro, same problem. Quite simply, this thing is dangerous!! Ok, when it works, the vape experience is good but after 1 or 2 months it starts firing up on its own, pours out boiling hot juice. Just not fit for purpose. Buy at your peril. These devices should be taken off the market, or at least redesign the coil, oh, and the innovative fill flap lasts about 2 months ss well before the rubber tab snaps off. Poor quality.. A shame, because when it works, its good

  3. Hey I also have my let downs with this I first purchased the drag x and it was great than I seen the top coil and had to try so now I own 2diff drag xpros and no matter what I do what juice, coil, wattage I get a mouth full of spit back or juice and it really upsets me major let down so now looking for a new vape think I’m done with voopoo unless someone has some advice that will help for now I went back to the pnp x tank but defeats the whole purpose of the pro.

  4. I’m Anthony and been vaping for 7years now. I’ve owned alot of different set-ups over the years and just over a week ago I purchased a drag x pro. After trying all the different TPP coil this has to be the worst one I’ve owned to date. I love the look and feel of it but no matter what I try (different coils, juice, vaping style) it just leaks non stop. The TPP DM3 coil is better but I think I’ve spent more time cleaning it then vaping with it. For my first try with VOOPOO this has definitely put me off trying any of there other products
