It has been quite some time since Innokin released the Cool Fire 1 and Cool Fire 2 and strangely there was never a ‘number 3’?

Innokin Cool Fire 4 – Great Addition To The Cool Fire Range?

However odd their naming of products we have arrived at the Innokin Cool Fire 4, a compact box mod packed full of features.Innokin cool fire 4 and sub tank

The question is. Can the Cool Fire IV compete with some of the best box mods available in this competitive market?

Lets find out.

In The Box

The Cool Fire 4 comes in a small, tidy perspex case and contains the following:

  • Cool Fire 4
  • Micro USB Charging Cable
  • EGO Adapter
  • User Manual

Build and Looks of the Cool Fire 4

Taking the Innokin Cool Fire 4 out of the box and I have to say I ma immediately impressed. The form factor and finish is superb.

The box mod is available in 6 colours, I went safe and purchased the black.

The main body is made of stainless steel and has a kind of grained, wood effect kind of finish that may sound a little naff but Innokin have done a great job with this, it looks quality. Innokin Cool Fire 4 reviewed

The actual shape of the body is designed to fit well in the base of your palm and again with it curved form it achieves this effortlessly.

The ‘fatter’ part of the body allows you to sit a 22mm tank on top in a way that it sits in the bracket of the outer body material perfectly.

I reviewed this with the Innokin iSub Tank and it looks great sat on top.Innokin cool fire 4 with the iSub

The end, top and base of the mod is solid, smooth stainless steel.

The power button, screen, function buttons and micro USB port are housed on the side, the latter allowing you to charge the device while keeping it stood upright.

The base of the MOD has a recessed on/off switch doesn’t interfere with the aerodynamics of the device. On Off button cool fire 4

The only thing I can see as a down side is that there is very slight button rattle from the two small function buttons.

This can normally be a nuisance for me but this is (for my tastes) one of the best looking box mods I have reviewed to date and has the quality to match.

Due to this a little button rattle can be forgiven!

Size wise it’s on a par with the 50W iStick if you happen to have used this. For those that have had the MVP2, it’s about the same width and 1cm shorter.

Due to the curved design though it looks a lot smaller all round.cool fire 4 istick 50w side by side

Innokin really have thought this design through thoroughly. Excellent stuff.

How Does The Innokin Cool Fire 4 Perform?

I think we can gather that Innokin have nailed the looks and build quality but how about the performance.

Here are the specs of the MOD:

  • 86mm height
  • 2000 mAh Li-ion Battery
  • 6W – 40W – Adjusted in 0.5W increments
  • 3V – 7.5V – Adjusted in 0.1V increments
  • VRMS DC current
  • Output Current 12A
  • Max output current 14.5A
  • Tank resistance 0.3Ohm
  • Pass through (Vape While Charging)
  • 510 Spring loaded pin
  • On/Off switch
  • 15 Second Cut Off
  • Low volt warning
  • Overheat protection
  • Short circuit/Atomiser protection
  • Over discharge protection

Innokin have definitely packed in some features with the Cool Fire IV. I have been using the MOD now for a couple of weeks and the 2000 mAh battery has been getting me through a couple of days vaping before a charge is needed.

This is with the iSub with a 0.5ohm coil.

Depending on your setup this could last you less or indeed a lot more if you are just using the likes of the Aspire Nautilus Mini. So no issues on that front.

Selecting the various functions is very much a user friendly affair. The OLED screen is small but very clear and displays the following information:

  • Atomiser resistance
  • Voltage output
  • Wattage output
  • Battery power indicator
  • Pressing ‘Power’ button and ‘-‘ selects Watts
  • Pressing ‘Power’ button and ‘+’ selects Volts
  • Pressing both ‘+’ and ‘-‘ together shows number of puffs. Hold these for 3 seconds and the OLED screen flips.
  • And of course the ‘+’ ‘-‘ buttons scroll through the voltage/wattage settings

The functions all work seamlessly. The voltage/wattage selection display scrolls fast enough to get you to your desired setting quickly as well as using a ’round robin’ function so once it reached 40W it will go back to the beginning.

Go too far and you can of course go back the other way.Innokin Cool Fire 4 OLED Screen

If, as a vaper, you are stepping up from an EGO e cig to a variable wattage device for the first time this really is simple to get the hang of.

As mentioned I was using the Innokin iSub tank, it looks the part paired with the Cool Fire 4 and the performance was excellent. All 22mm tanks actually fit perfectly on this MOD.

For new VW users just be sure to start your setting low and work your way up until you get to your preferred setting.

For me I found the 20W-25W mark produced great flavour/vapour with Vaporfi Grandma’s Apple Pie.Innokin cool fire 4 in hand

If you are just using sub ohm tanks the 40W range will be more than enough for your needs.

For those using RDA’s with lower resistance builds then it’s likely that 40W might not be enough depending on your build but if you fall into that bracket you already new that 🙂

Final Thoughts

Still recommended.. This mod has stood the test of time!

It takes a bit to get me excited about new box mods due to the fact a lot of brands don’t seem to create anything different, they just regurgitate what seems to be selling well and while they may create a good product you can’t help but just feel… Well…. merghhh.

Not so with the Innokin Cool Fire 4. This for me (along with the MVP3) is one of the best box mods to date for vapers that don’t require big power.

It really does look and feel fantastic.

Lets round it up:

Pro’s

  • Looks fantastic and feels fantastic in the hand. Top quality build.
  • Excellent 2000 mAh battery life
  • Simple to use
  • Clear OLED screen
  • Can be used as a pass through (Vape whilst charging)
  • 510 and EGO compatible
  • Use coils down to 0.3Ohm
  • Portable, can easily be used out and about

Cons

  • The only tiny thing is the slight button rattle from the +/- buttons. And that’s being picky.

Can’t recommend this highly enough!

innokin-cool-fire-4-reviewThe Coolfire 4 from Innokin is a great vape mod that I have found myself using on a regular basis. Would recommend if you are looking for a stylish device under 40W.

  1. there terrible had mine for a few months and the mod has given up the ghost already only get a clicking noise from mod tried with several innokin coils no wonder there warranty period is terrible and they wont honour it

  2. Hi great info and coms …. I’ve been using the cool fire IV for 7 weeks, should say here I haven’t had a ciggie since I started! I recently started DL and I’m thinking about having different tanks I see above the isub is recommended can the cleito and baby beast be used with this mod too ? Excuse me if this is a silly question and thank you.

    • Hey Dora,

Well done on making the switch! Always nice to hear!

The tanks you mention will work depending on the coils you use. As an example I still use the Aspire Cleito tank regularly with 0.4Ohm coils and vape around 30W. I do, however, like a cooler vape. I have just put this on my (now very old) Cool Fire 4 and 35W is good for me on this.

The Baby Beast does have coils that will work within your 40W max but keep in mind if you want a warmer vape then the CF4 mod may not have the power to give you that, it may feel underpowered.

Also, the coils that the Baby tank come with as standard – V8 Baby Q2 Core (0.2ohm Dual Coils) / 1 x V8 Baby X4 Core (0.15ohm Quad Coils) – won’t work full stop with the CF4 as the mod can only fire down to 0.3Ohm.

Just another thing to keep in mind! 🙂

So basically, you preferably need coils that are 0.4Ohm and up and that are recommended for use around 30W

May have confused things even more there, hopefully you get it, but any other questions please ask! 🙂

  3. Hi Jonny,
Quick update – bought an Innokin T20 tank – fantastic. Good for MTL and DTL – getting the hang of this.
Smoked only a few fags per day for the past week – prefer to vape now. Bought 88Vape Toffee Sauce and the standard 88Vape 1.6mg tobacco – it’s great mixed together. Cheers, Rob

    • That’s great news Rob! Just make sure you keep a nice stock of coils and don’t do what I do and wait until you’ve got 5ml of juice left before ordering more 🙂 and you’ll be right!

  4. Hi Johnny,
Thanks for the reply. Yes came with the iSub Tank. I’ll test out some other PG / VG mixes.
As I’m new to this, tried normal E-cigs to quit smoking, is it possible to use a mouth to lung setup with the Innokin Cool Fire 4 rather than straight to lung as it is at present. I think this may improve the experience overall.
Let me know your thoughts and any recommendations if this setup is possible. Great site by the way – the reason I bought an Innokin Cool Fire 4 – fantastic and honest reviews.
    Cheers, Rob

    • Hey Rob,

Thanks for the comments! Much appreciated!

Yeah sure you can use MTL tanks such as the Nautilus 2, Jacvapour S22 and so on no problem.

Just needs wattage to be reduced in line with the coil resistance you are using. A plus point to this is you will also get longer battery life from your mod as well.

Of course any questions about MTL tanks ask away.

      Cheers

      Jonny

  5. Just bought one and received it today. Everything is great apart from the popping and crackling.
Does anyone know the correct settings – tried all the recommended and still getting the wake up noises.
Using a 100% PG mix – could that have something to do with it. Any recommendations very welcome.

    • Hey Rob, did you get the kit with the iSub tank?

Immediate thoughts, as you mentioned, is the 100%PG juice. You should get better results from a ratio around the 60VG/40PG range (if you have a sub ohm tank). 100PG is thin for these bigger coils and can soak through the cotton to the coils a little too quick.

Crackling and popping isn’t unusual but is a problem if your getting spit back. It’s juice sitting on the actual coil, when you fire the device the immediate temp increase can cause the eliquid to pop/crackle.

If it’s spitting a quick poke of rolled up tissue or Q tip down the mouthpiece into the center of the coil can mop up the excess. In fact, no harm in trying this anyway to clear some of the excess juice of the actual coil.

We have a troubleshooting e cig tank guide here if you haven’t seen it already.

Let me know what tank you have and what coil (resistance/Ohm) you are using Rob.

      Cheers

      Jonny

  6. I have just purchased this product and it seems to be just what it says on the tin and works fine. The only thing I have noticed is that it uses a lot of fluids I am filling the tank twice a day which seems a lot. Has anyone else had this experience?

    • Hi Sharon,

What tank is it you are using and what is the capacity? If using a sub ohm tank they do drink the ejuice quicker due to the higher wattage required to heat the coils.

Also, do you vape a lot?

I can go through 2-2.5 tanks a day with my Aspire Cleito tank vaping a touch over what I’d call moderately. Although this is more of an e-juice drinker than the iSub (if that’s what you have).

      In short it’s not unusual.

      Cheers

      Jonny

  7. i own many(15+) box mods and to be honest if i have to go out all day i dont take this mod , but for an evening out , going shopping or any outing less than 6 hours , i always take this mod as it is small enough to put in my pocket , it feels great in my hand , easy to use , and it looks class .

  8. The features are great, being little effort to operate. I love the size and battery life. Smooth hit every time. Gives a fulfilling sensation to negate the desire to use tobacco. I like the simple design, easy to read display. Ergonomic design and weight makes it such an easy pick up.

  9. looks very nice, has TC and changeable Batteries… thats what i want from a good Mod 🙂
stopped smoking with a ego-C and now i vape more for fun, so i want good Devices.

  10. My physician told me to stop smoking. I have drastically cut back to a point where I can quit completely with the help of vaping. It’s the only way.

  11. What can I say that hasn’t been said already? Superb ergonomic design, unmatched ease of use, and a beautiful looking mod. Flavour and vapour production is stellar. Can’t fault the Cool Fire IV at all, though if you’re looking for high wattages you might want to look at the Plus model.

  12. Fantastic mod. This was my first venture into vaping, and it’s been a revelation for me. I never bought into the whole vaping thing until I tried this, now I wouldn’t use anything else.
I loved it so much, I’ve bought myself a second coolfore 4 so I’ve always got one in use and one charged and ready to go should the battery run out.
I’d recommend changing the tank to an ISub S. It’s a top filler and saves having to dismantle the tank when needing a refill.
Overall I couldn’t recommend this enough, don’t think about it, get one, change the tank and I guarantee you won’t be disappointed

  13. i have the cool fire 4 plus version and absolutely love it, great price and simple to use. fantastic flavor and vapor production

  14. Before I got this ecig I was smoking 10-15 fags a day at I seemed to smoke more at work but since iv got this ecig iv not bought any fags since iv not smoked any fags since tbh I don’t eaven think about having a fag no more the ecig is enough to make you feel like you have had a fag it’s a really good thing to have when ever I feel like I want a fag I have a couple of puffs on ecig thn I don’t eaven think about it anymore

  15. I bought this as a replacement to the Eleaf I stuck 50w. Which lasted a while 8 days before the USB charger port broke because I dared to push a charger in it…. Wreckless masters that I am!

It’s build quality is far superior to the eleaf and the charge lasts just as long despite the power difference of the batteries.

    Excellent

  16. Used to ‘sneak’ about 10 cigs daily until I changed to the CF4 with Nautilus Mini. No longer, I’m totally vaping and saving a fortune!

  17. I bought this as a friend of mine had one, i have smoked for 40yrs, i cannot believe that i have given up smoking so far whilst using the cool fire.
My cool fire 4 came with a isub tank, i did not like that tank as it was like sucking on a exhaust pipe, so i chaned to a iclear 30 now i’m a happy bunny..
