Smoking Related Cancers Eliminated vaping news

EU Cancer Plan MUST Use E-cigarettes

Smoking related cancers could be eliminated within a generation if the European Union embraced e-cigarettes and vaping.

The European Commision held a recent meeting to discuss the Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and almost 20% of the attendees called for harm reduction strategies for both alcohol and tobacco.

However, it was 1 in 6 members that called for reduced-risk nicotine products to be front and centre when it comes to drawing up the fight cancer campaign.

Seems a little low to me – but at least some are pushing for the safer alternatives to smoking such as SNUS and of course vaping.

In an article written for the New Europe website, Francis P. Crawley, the Executive Director of the Good Clinical Practice Alliance – Europe (GCPA), said:

Tobacco harm reduction presents an immediate and effective response to the smoking population.

The use of reduced-risk products, like e-cigarettes, can potentially eliminate smoking-induced cancer in Europe within a generation.

Increasingly we see smokers, European citizens, themselves making this life-saving choice to move away from cigarettes toward vaping and similar products with far fewer toxins, far fewer health risks.

Commissioner Kyriakiades’ Beating Cancer Plan needs to be inclusive.

It cannot, indeed it must not abandon these European citizens and their choices in pursuit of a healthier lifestyle.

Wise words, however the EU is currently looking to tighten up the regulations surrounding the TPD, with some countries such as Denmark planning a total flavour ban.

Let’s hope advocacy groups such as the NNA and ETHRA can make some impact because like it or lump it, vaping is under threat in even Europe.

Dramatic Drop In Teen Vapers

There’s close to 2 million less teen vapers in the USA according to new research.

However, and despite the dramatic fall in numbers, anti-vape groups still believe a countrywide flavour ban is needed.

vaping and teens

If I’m honest, they want vaping eradicated from America not just heavily legislated with ban orders.

Anyway, the stats come from the 2020 National Youth Tobacco Survey.

It shows that 20% of high school kids say they have tried an e-cigarette just once in the last 30 days.

Whilst among middle school aged kids, the figure is 5%.

This is a change from last year of 27.5% and 10.5% respectively – a HUGE decrease.

Rachel Rosen, the study’s author, a psychology undergraduate, is still not happy:

…I continue to believe that flavors should be banned from vape products and disposable e-cigarettes, and I plan to keep pushing for that action at the federal level.

Talk about putting a negative spin on things lol.

So much for the so called ‘vape epidemic‘ that we’ve known for quite some time was bogus and in turn led to the current shit show that is the state of the vape in America.

Chicago Bans Flavours

Sad news for vapers in the city of Chicago as the council voted for a complete e-liquid flavour ban.

It goes without saying flavoured lit tobacco, including menthol, will remain on sale.

The ban order passed by a 46-4 vote and opponents said it was disaster for the city’s already under pressure retailers…

I’d be just a concerned at the cost to the health of the city – but hey that’s just me…

Mayor Lori Lightfoot was, as you might expect, pleased at the ban:

This is a serious health care issue.

Some have said, ‘Why are we dealing with this now in the middle of a pandemic when we’ve got so many other issues?’

We’re dealing with this now because it’s necessary.

Complete bollocks of course.

If ‘they’ really cared about the health of the residents, surely they’d be targeting lit tobacco..?

Once again a case of ‘nothing to see here…move along…

Florida Flavour Ban Blocked

Some great news for vapers in Florida as the Governor blocks a vape bill that would have banned flavours.

The controversial bill would have also raised the age to legally buy e-cigarettes to 21.

Governor Ron DeSantis, a Republican, vetoed the legislation saying:

This legislation would almost assuredly lead more people to resume smoking cigarettes, and it would drive others to the hazardous black market.

The latter consequence is especially significant because the much-publicized cases of lung injury associated with vaping in recent years have been traced to illegal, or black market, vape cartridges containing THC, not to the types of legal vaping products that this bill would abolish.

Now isn’t that refreshing to hear in a country becoming more and more anti-vape!

Bill SB 810 was backed by some heavy hitters including the state’s attorney general Ashley Moody, as well as the American Lung Associating and the American Cancer Society.

Moody told the media she was disappointed in the Governors action adding:

The United States and Florida surgeons general have declared vaping to be an epidemic.

As the attorney general and a mother, I will continue to advocate for legislation and in our courts to protect Florida’s children.

However, Gregory Conley, Gregory Conley, president of the American Vaping Association, was delighted:

When legislators voted for this bill, few had any idea that they were actually voting to shut down small businesses in their districts.

This would have been disastrous not only for the 5,000-plus vapor-related jobs in Florida, but for the 800,000-plus adult vapers in Florida as well.

At last some good news coming out of America – let’s hope there’s more real soon.

I have simpler vape tastes these days - I never leave home without a Caliburn G, a Vaporesso Luxe 40 or Innokin EQ FLTR and a CBD vape pen or bottle of CBD drops in my rucksack...or indeed an Aspire Nautilus Prime X in my pocket... At home I'll be using various mods topped with the GeekVape Zeus X RTA or the Signature Mods Mono SQ topped with the Augvape BTFC RDA... I'm a former journalist and now a writer and sometimes author... I'm ex Army - adore dogs and never happier than hiking over the hills or with a good book on a beach.
