Vaping Heart Attack Claim Refuted…Again!

The link between vaping and an increased risk of heart attacks is yet again PROVEN to be false thanks to a new scientific study.

In simple terms, vaping does not mean a greater risk of heart attacks.

This particular false/fake claim seems to have been around for an absolute age and once again has been proven to be down to extremely ‘bad science‘.

Of course that hasn’t stopped the media fear mongering following the release of the original study linking vaping and heart attacks.

That ‘study‘ was authored by ‘disgraced‘ anti-vaping scientist Professor Stanton Glantz.

Apart from ‘dodgy‘ science, it was Glantz that once tweeted:

Using e-cigs increases exposure to toxic chemicals for most users; they would be better off just smoking…

Wait…what?!?

It was his outrageous claims that led to very many politicians, and health organizations becoming as anti-vape as they now are.

That particular study was withdrawn back in February 2020 after numerous scientists in the know uncovered a raft of ‘factual inaccuracies‘.

In a nutshell it was found among those ‘tested‘ many had a previous history of heart attacks BEFORE vaping arrived on the scene!!!

Yes…really!

This new study – co authored by prolific pro vaping doctor Michael Siegel MD, should hopefully put the matter to bed.

Though one doubts it…

The detailed study concludes:

There is no reliable evidence that e-cigarette use is associated with ever having had a myocardial infarction among never smokers.
Contrary to concerns that the harms associated with e-cigarettes are only now emerging after more years of possible product use, the only evidence of time-dependent variation in the association between e-cigarette use and myocardial infarction ran counter to this possibility.
The scientific community must insist that researchers engage in accurate public communication of peer-reviewed findings.

As to if the ‘scientific community‘ will follow this example one doubts given there seems to be a bottomless pit of cash for biased anti-vape studies.

NICE To Hear From Vapers

You only have a couple of days left to help shape the UK healthcare position on vaping and e-cigarettes.

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence [NICE] needs the vaping industry and organizations to take part in the national healthcare consultation.

The results could improve the way e-cigarettes are used in stop smoking clinics and could have a huge impact on the way the UK health profession views vaping.

NICE is the UK watchdog for all things medical and advises the NHS – among other organizations – on best health practices.

Back in 2018 NICE stated that e-cigarettes were substantially safer than smoking and since then has produced guidelines on best vaping practices for the medical profession.

John Dunne, director general of the UK Vaping Industry Association [UKVIA] said:

The last 12 months has seen a groundswell of support coming from the health sector for the use of vaping devices alongside other NRTs to help reduce smoking prevalence in the UK.

This draft guidance from NICE carries enormous significance and chimes perfectly with the UKVIA’s own work offering help and advice to healthcare workers in cessation services and other areas on the correct use of vaping devices to give the smoker being helped the best possible chance of quitting their habits.

As an organisation focused on tobacco harm reduction through vaping we urge everybody, whether an individual, a business or not for profit, to take part in this consultation and play your part in getting vaping the recognition within healthcare that it deserves.

Drop In USA Lung Cancer Rates

Lung cancer rates in the USA has seen a massive decline despite other forms of the disease on the rise.

The Annual Report To the Nation on the state of cancer in the US is produced by the American Cancer Society, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Cancer Institute, and the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries.

The American Cancer Society is about as anti-vaping as you can get BTW.

The report says:

Cancer death rates in the United States continue to decline overall and for many cancer types, with the decline accelerated for lung cancer and melanoma.

For several other major cancers, however, death rates continue to increase or previous declines in rates have slowed or ceased.

I’m no scientist but there’s around 480,000 deaths from smoking related diseases recorded each year in America.

Maybe, just maybe, and despite the all out war on vaping in the country, the accelerated fall in lung cancer in particular, may be down to smokers making the healthier switch.

Just a thought…

Vermont Vape Shops Fined

A trio of vape shops in Vermont USA have been fined for selling vape gear on the internet.

It’s been illegal to sell any vaping products on the web for delivery to vapers living in the state since July 2019.

The three shops are the latest to fall foul of the law receiving ‘civil penalties‘ of $165,000 – back in 2020 and 2021, 10 other stores were fined $307,500!

Good money if you can get it I suppose.

Attorney General T.J. Donovan told the media:

Online sales of vaping products are illegal.

I am pleased that these websites will no longer be shipping products to Vermont.

WOW…the Governor is ‘pleased‘ life changing and life saving products will no longer reach his citizens…

Speaking of money, and for the record, Vermont registers around 1,000 deaths from smoking related diseases each year at a cost of $348 million in medical expenses.

That’s A LOT of medical bills going into the coffers of Big Pharma…

I wrote about the ETHRA Nicotine Users Survey back in early June and there’s now a 5 minute video showing the top 10 results.

37,000 people took part in the survey with some fascinating answers.

Introducing the video ETHRA says:

Between 12th October to 31 December 2020, more than 37,000 persons responded to ETHRA’s online EU Nicotine Users Survey.

ETHRA partners designed the questionnaire, translated it into 16 languages and analysed the data, all on a voluntary basis.

Topics included smoking and the desire to quit, use of safer nicotine products and barriers to switching caused by European and national regulations.
