In for review is the Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit.

Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kit hand check picVaptio are one of those manufacturers I’ve constantly heard about for years, yet I’ve never owned one of their products. To be honest the only release I’m even vaguely familiar with is the Vaptio Wall Crawler single 18650 Mod and the top filling Leno tank.

Vaptio were established in Seattle, US way back in 2014. They’re known for offering top quality vape hardware, kits, mods, pods and the like.

They dedicate themselves to changing the vaping world by constantly bringing innovation and better options to the end user.

Pod kits are now ten a penny and it feels like practically everything that can be innovated has, well, been innovated..

Does the Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kit offer anything I haven’t already seen?

What Can We Expect From The Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit?

The Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kit falls unsurprisingly into their ‘kit’ category alongside the likes of the Prod 2, Cosmo Nebula and Spark.

It features an ergonomic coherent design, powerful flavour performance, a compact and lightweight feel and uses a precise airflow slider to fine tune either a Mouth To Lung (MTL) or Direct To Lung (DTL) vape.

We tell you what these terms mean in our Guide To Vaping Styles.

The pod cap can be removed to expose the pod. These caps are interchangeable with the five colour schemes currently available. That means a total of 49 unique colour variations to meet the demands of even the fussiest vaper.

As a kit you can purchase the device in five colour schemes. These are Avocado Green (under review), Pastel Blue, Blush Pink, Cloud White and Charcoal Grey.

There are actually two sealed pods available. The 0.7ohm mesh pod comes with the kit and a 1.2ohm regular wire pod can be purchased separately. This gives the user the option of two vaping styles and these are enhanced by the adjustable airflow slider on the base of the removable pod.

What’s more, the battery automatically detects which pod has been installed. To make things even clearer the pod fill stoppers are colour coded to avoid making a mistake. That’s always a nice touch – fair play, Vaptio!

Power adjustment is limited to a few clicks of the fire button allowing for a soft, normal or strong output.

Fast type C USB charging is included and it’s said to take just under an hour to revive a tired, worn out battery.

What's in the box of the Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kitI’m always a bit miffed at the exclusion of a type C charging cable. It shouldn’t be assumed everyone already has these lying around. A brand new user most certainly won’t.

Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit – Design And Build Quality

Pod Cap and Pod

Let’s start with the pod cap. It’s a new one on me and one I quite like because it allow the kit to retain all of its elegance and aesthetics while hiding what is, a rather average looking pod.

The pastel colours of the cap and battery section complement each other and the uninterrupted elliptical shape means it’s comfortable in the hand.

Removing the pod cap of the Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kitThe non removable plastic mouthpiece pokes through the top of the cap and two oblong viewing windows are incorporated on either side.

It seems natural to assume the pod to follow the same form factor as the cap but it doesn’t. Instead it sits against a raised support plinth which is probably designed to ensure the contents don’t exceed the stated 2ml capacity.

Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit with pod cap removedThe pod attaches to the battery section via two strong magnets. I checked these and they’re rock solid. I couldn’t shake the pod free. Good stuff!

Consequently the pod looks smaller than others on the market but the build quality, at least looks on par. The silicone fill tab is one of the best I’ve seen for a long time – It’s incredibly easy to open and close even with my bitten down nails!

Fill tab on Vaptio Avocado Baby podThe pod is made of a toughened PCTG plastic that’s fully transparent so viewing remaining juice levels is a doddle.

On the underside there’s an airflow slider to take care of restrictive lung (RDL) vaping. It can be closed off for when a mouth to lung vape (MTL) is called on.

Battery Section

It’s really not much heavier than the pod and cap combined. It has a grippy, tactile feel when held and isn’t likely to slip from the hand during use.

There’s no sign of product branding or logo. Could that be a sign of manufacturer confidence? Personally it makes a refreshing change and again, adds to aesthetic appeal.

A recessed type C USB charging port is situated on the underside and there’s also three small venting holes for the 1100mAh integrated battery. Well done, Vaptio.

Underneath the fire button there are four LED’s – although you can barely make them out when not in use. It seems like Vaptio have gone all out with design quality, not to mention originality.

How To Fill The Pod

  • Remove the pod cap
  • Pull the pod out of the battery section
  • Locate the fill tab on the side of the pod and lift one end out

  • Drop the pod back into the battery section using the magnets to secure
  • Replace the pod cap

Leave the e-juice to soak into the cotton for around five minutes before vaping.

Operation

The fire button takes care of the business side and the LED’s display the results. Let’s take a closer look.

  • Press the fire button five times rapidly to turn the device on or off.
  • Press the fire button three times to display the current power setting.
  • Pressing the fire button three times again to round robin the power level from low, medium or high.
  • Once the desired power setting is selected wait two seconds and the current setting is saved.

How Does The Vaptio Avocado baby Pod Kit Perform?

You’ll get the 0.7ohm mesh pod with the kit. For this reason I set the adjustable slider to wide open to see what kind of a draw I actually got.

IVG Vanilla Biscuit was used to test the coil which is a 70VG/30PG blend. I’d applied 3mg of freebase nicotine to the juice.

We tell you more about the different types of e-liquid in the guides below…

The power setting was also set to its maximum capability of 18.5W or three Green LED’s.

Without doubt this is a semi restrictive direct lung vape but what impressed me was the sheer cloud volume. I wasn’t expecting that much and it was a pleasant surprise.

The inhale is smooth and turbulence free and the vape is relatively quiet.

As for flavour? That impressed me too. The 0.7ohm mesh coil provides some warmth on this setting which allowed the dairy notes of the e-juice to taste stronger. The Vanilla pulled through nicely and creamy notes were produced mid way through the vape.

The flavour was concentrated and longer inhales gave me the chance to savour all the subtle nuances the e-juice has to offer.

This kind of airflow restriction is where I’m at because it falls somewhere in between two styles of vaping. Mouth to lung and semi restrictive direct lung.

Using The Precise Airflow Control Slider

Yeah, that didn’t work for me. It’s too small and there’s just not enough scope for worthwhile airflow adjustment. The restriction felt the same as when fully open so I didn’t fiddle around for very long.

Power Settings

Just a quick note on these. You’ll need to constantly hit the fire button three times to make any change to power output. Remember when making an adjustment the last saved setting appears first.

Also, make sure the LED dims before attempting to vape. You’ll get a misfire otherwise.

Normal power setting on the Vaptio Avocado baby pod kit
Normal power setting provides a cooler vape.

There’s a distinct difference to power when dropping from high to normal and it takes a longer inhale to pull any warmth from the coil. That pretty much demonstrated the effectiveness of the setting.

Flavour and cloud production doesn’t suffer too much but it does feel like the coil is struggling more to produce the same creamy, dairy sub notes of the e-liquid.

In terms of cloud production there wasn’t too much difference between this and the lowest power setting to be honest. As much as this impressed me, flavour was definitely starting to falter on the lowest power setting. It was losing all its vibrant characteristics and beginning to taste a little flat.

This might be the setting to use in an emergency. When the battery is reaching its last 25% of charge and any wall socket is miles away..

A Note On Airflow

As much as I love the aesthetics and the pod cap, the device left me scratching my head.

How was airflow entering?

The only thing I could figure was that it was entering via the two viewing windows and travelling down between the plinth and pod.

Rite of airflow passage on Vaptio Avocado baby pod kit
Does the gap between the plinth and the pod provide the answer to my airflow woes?

I used masking tape to block the viewing windows but that didn’t make much difference. I even taped the seam between pod cap and battery as well as any gap where the mouthpiece passes through the pod cap.

Nada!

I can’t see anyone using the precise airflow slider for anything other than closing it fully for a MTL vape. The adjustability is limited to an extremely small single pin hole and although it’s workable doesn’t produce enough of a difference.

When it’s in the wide open position it provides a restriction I enjoy, plenty of saturated flavour and more cloud production than expected so I’m more than happy to leave well enough alone..

Battery Performance

I managed 8 hours continuous use from the 1100mAh integrated battery. When power fell to a single green LED I monitored the remaining uptime. Vaptio tell us at this point there’s 25% battery life remaining and since I got 2 hours use that claim is bob on! Good stuff..

When the battery needs recharging a single LED will flash five times to prevent further vaping.

During use I vaped around 4.5ml of e-juice and the pod was refilled twice. The strongest power output was used too so the 0.7ohm mesh coil isn’t exactly a juice guzzler.

It took exactly one hour to charge the battery from flat so that’s a bit longer than Vaptio state. No biggie as that’s the norm for type C charging anyway.

One thing to be aware of when charging. The 4 LED’s remain lit once fully charged. It would’ve been useful if they just turned off.

Pros

  • Excellent aesthetics and ergonomically designed
  • Extremely light weight and pocket friendly
  • Easy to view remaining juice levels through pod cap windows
  • Strong magnetic contacts (including pod cap)
  • Great flavour and even better vapour production using the 0.7ohm mesh pod
  • No leaking from the sealed pod

Cons

  • 1.2ohm regular wire MTL pod not included with the kit
  • No USB charging cable supplied
  • No auto draw option (subjective)
  • Precise airflow slider isn’t that precise

Vaptio Avocado Baby Pod Kit – Final Review Verdict

I must admit I love the idea of the pod cap. It may have been done before but for me at least, represents innovation. As a consequence, the Vaptio Avocado baby looks the biz in terms of aesthetics and ergonomics.

Even the LED’s are invisible when not in use. Its small details like this that turn a good looking device into a great looking device. That’s exactly how I feel about the Vaptio Avocado Baby.

I had no issues vaping using the most open airflow setting as I got the semi restrictive lung hit I know and love. The flavour was consistently good and cloud production was fantastic.

The precise airflow adjustment on the base of the pod is the only blot on my vaping landscape. It’s also a shame that the 1.20hm regular wire pod isn’t included because there’d be a reason to use the slider then. To close it off for a MTL experience.

When all’s said and done, the Vaptio Avocado Baby is the sleekest, sexiest pod kit I’ve used this year. Not only based on appearance but functionality, performance and ergonomics.

It won’t disappoint.

vaptio-avocado-baby-reviewThe Vaptio Avocado Baby pod kit is a stunning looking device. It's been designed with elegance in mind and it shows. Replaceable and interchangeable pod caps hide an average looking pod while the LED's are never obtrusive. The build quality alone shows it's had quite some thought put into it. Flavour and cloud production is very good although the precise airflow slider wasn't really of use to me. It'll be more relevant when using the 1.2ohm regular wire pod.
