The Voopoo Vinci X pod mod is the super fast follow up to the previous two vape kits, so what, if anything – has changed or improved?

Update: Voopoo Vinci 3 review now live

Other questions I have rattling around in my head are, does size matter when choosing the right VooPoo Vinci kit for you?

voopoo vinci x in hand
At what point does a pod system, become a mod-system?

And of course, where is the line between a mod and tank setup, and a traditional AIO (all in one) kit?

I’m so confused right now!

But nonetheless, we’re now enjoying a plethora of pod mod style devices which quite honestly, I’m pleased to see.

I see them (if done right) as being capable of offering absolutely everything that a new and an experienced vaper is looking for – complete versatility and a complete vaping experience.

From a nice tight Mouth-To-Lung vape, to a hard hitting cloud chasing Direct to lung draw – whilst being both versatile and practical.

And Voopoo has certainly hit the ground running with their Vinci and Vinci R 1500mAh devices, although they didn’t quite hit the right spot in every category.

What Can We Expect From The Vinci X by VooPoo?

To start with, the VooPoo Vinci X is pretty much the same as the Vinci, and Vinci R with regards to its style and features.

The main differences are, the size, its slightly bigger, it takes an external 18650 battery and is capable of firing up to 70w as opposed to the original 40w of the Vinci and Vinci R.

Vinci X with the original Voopoo Vinci pod mod

Obviously bringing in a large external battery has increased the size of the device, and the coils that are supplied with the kit do differ slightly to the 40w versions.

Apart from that, this is pretty much the big brother to the originals.

The Voopoo Vinci X follows suit with the clear display, two airflow options and that super satisfying magnetic click when the pod is installed.

One feature that’s been taken away is the automatic draw feature that I quite like with a pod kit.

Not sure the reason why, and 3 clicks of the fire button doesn’t change the device between manual and auto mode…Hmmm?

So let’s crack on with the VooPoo Vinci X review and see what this kit is all about…

This kit was sent to me for the purpose of review.

All views and opinions are solely those of my own and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of others.

Design and Build Quality

I received the carbon fibre colour variation of the Voopoo Vinci X which is built just as well as its little brother.

Its a solidly built device with everything in the right places.

voopoo vinci x coulours

The fire button is placed perfectly and the wattage adjustment up and down buttons are small, but not too small that you accidentally press both at the same time – and they have a satisfying click to them.

voopoo vinci x profile

The display on the Voopoo Vinci X is large and clear, but a little dim at times, especially in brightly lit places or outdoors, but it’s still readable.

In comparison to the original Vinci, is it a little dimmer? Nope.

Just remove the screen protector and its exactly the same.

Below the adjustment buttons is the Micro USB port for charging and firmware upgrade, but as always, try and use a quality external battery charger when possible and if you have to charge your battery internally, I’d advise not to charge it overnight in this way.

There’s a lot of nightmare stories out there and I really don’t believe batteries like being charged within such a confined environment.

At the base of the Voopoo Vinci X is where you install the battery, 4 anti-clockwise spins of the battery door and off it comes.

Once your battery is installed (positive side up) – the battery cover tightens back up nicely and the threads are nice and smooth.

In the Hand

Shaped like a chunky pack of Chewits, its not exactly the most comfortable in the hand, the angles on the base of the device are almost too pointy and the paint finish along with the slightly holographic carbon fibre designed stickers are smooth and slippy.

voopoo vinci x battery door

The device itself doesn’t offer much grip.

voopoo vinci x review

But its still quite small considering its juice and battery capacity, so its shape doesn’t bother me too much and its still small enough to be called ‘Pocket Friendly

With an 18650 battery and a tank full of e-liquid, it does feel a little on the weighty side, but still nothing compared to other single battery mods with a tank on top.

So the portability box gets a tick as well

The Pod

pod mod review

The 5.5ml Pod that comes with the Voopoo Vinci X is no different to the Vinci and Vinci R Pods.

They measure the same and fit exactly the same.

pod mod coils

The pod itself clicks beautifully into the device thanks to the 4 magnets on the base, and with push-fit coils and nicely sized juice hole for filling, it’s a well thought out pod.

However, there is a little play/movement with the pod which I didn’t experience with the original Vinci’s!

voopoo vinci x base

Like its little brother, the Voopoo Vinci X offers 2 airflow options simply by rotating the pod 180 degrees.

The options are simple to explain – very airy or slightly restricted.

Your airflow experience may alter when using some of the higher resistance coils with a narrower coil bore, but with the 2 coils provided with the kit, I can’t feel much more resistance between each other.

And with this device offering up to 70 watts of power, I’m struggling to believe the Voopoo Vinci X is for a traditional Mouth-To-Lung Vaper.

How To Fill the VooPoo Vinci X Pod

pods

To fill the pod with e-liquid you firstly remove the pod from the battery part of the device, then:

  • Locate the silicon flappy part and gently peel it back
  • Hold your pod horizontally and fill with your desired e-liquid
  • Close the silicon cover ensuring its fully plugging the hole.
  • Fit the Pod back onto the device.

At this point, the Voopoo Vinci X will automatically detect the optimal wattage for the coil installed.

Which is very handy if you’re either new to vaping, or just unsure of what’s the best wattage for the installed coil.

However it is limited!

The 0.6Ω coil will only fire up to 28w, while the 0.3Ω coil will fire up to 40w.

This of course is to limit the chances of burning the coils out, but its a bit of a shame that you cant get a bit more poke out of the coils if that’s your preference.

But its idiot-proof that’s for sure.

priming coils

I strongly suggest giving the coils 5-10 minutes rest time to allow the coils to fully saturate in e-liquid.

You can prime your coils to save on waiting time by simply adding a few drops to the cotton a number of times.

But either way I’d still leave the coil to fully saturate for a while.

Voopoo Vinci X Display Functions

The Vinci X shares the same screen as the internal battery variants and has a nice clear screen which is approx 0.8in tall and about half an inch wide.

voopoo vinci x screen

The display shows the battery life, wattage, puff count, puff time and coil and voltage numbers.

There are also a couple of button sequences to keep in mind

  • 5 Clicks of the Fire Button = On – Off
  • 3 Clicks of the Fire Button = Adjusts Between Auto, Manual – Both Draw Options
  • Press and hold Fire – Button = Resets Puff Counter
  • Press and Hold + – Button – View Puff Information
  •  + and – buttons adjust wattage from 5w-40w in 1w increments

Auto-coil detection is also a very handy feature with this device.

Generally I’ve kept to the recommended automatic wattage set by the device.

Very clever and actually works.

How Does the VooPoo Vinci X Perform?

During my testing I’ve been vaping on VapePunx Range of e-liquids from The Vapery.

Mostly Pango which is a 70/30 3mg Pineapple and Mango mix.

Voopoo Vinci X – Flavour and Clouds

The 0.3Ω PnP-VM1 Coil

Recommended between 32 and 40w, but automatically set to 35w the 0.3Ω coil puts out pretty decent cloud, and very good flavour for what is essentially an oversized pod kit.

pods coils

I generally used the 0.3Ω coil with the airflow on the wide open setting, at the maximum 40watts.

0.3ohm coil

I feel however, the coil could do with at least another 5 watts to get a slightly warmer vape as its a little on the cool side.

pod mod coils voopoo

The 0.6Ω PnP-VM4 Coil

Recommended between 20 and 28w, the vape experience is extremely similar to that of the 0.3Ω coil. The cloud is not as dense but the flavour is comparable.

0.6ohm pod coil

The device automatically sets itself to 24 watts but even at 30w with the airflow on the tighter side, its a slightly warm vape with enough flavour there.

coils in pods

Breaking-in Time

I’ve found these coils take a while to come into their own.

Right off the bat the flavour is good, but they certainly improve with a bit of time.

So keep that in mind when you take your first vape.

Voopoo Vinci X Airflow

Airflow wise, I will again copy and paste my thoughts from the original Vinci as my thoughts have really not changed.

“With the provided coils, the Vinci doesn’t provide the nice tight draw we all look for from a Mouth-To-Lung Vape.

However, you still have multiple airflow options depending on the rotation of the Pod, and the coil installed and they do make a difference to the restriction.

But not a massive difference.

Its a fairly quiet airflow though, it doesn’t whistle at you or wake the neighbours up, but its smooth and without restriction.”

Voopoo Vinci X Battery Life

The beauty of having an external battery is you needn’t worry about having to recharge the device if you have a spare battery to hand.

Once the battery is dead, just pop it out and install a freshly charged one.

As always your battery life will depend on your vaping habit, however I’m pleased to see the Voopoo Vinci X comes with coils which recommend quite low wattage’s.

So you should be able to easily enjoy a days life out of 1 18650 battery – or at least I have during my testing.

battery sled pod mod

I believe an RBA Deck is available for the Vinci, which will most likely mean you’ll be able to further exploit the option of using the full 70 watts.

I’ve no experience with the RBA deck and am yet to try it, but my gut instinct would be to install a single 3mm 26×32 gauge Clapton Wire, 5 wraps – which will come out at around 0.35Ω and at 60-70 watts you’ll get a bloody decent vape out of it.

Any Other Business

A big issue with the Vinci and Vinci R was the extremely leaky pod.

After a few hours use, the base of the pod would leak all over the contacts.
in this photo:

VooPoo-Vinci-leaking

Fortunately – there is no such leaking with this pod, and these coils!

So perhaps I had a dodgy one, or maybe an improvement has been made to the O-Rings on the coils, or the pod size itself?

Pros

  • Well built
  • External Battery is a winner
  • Battery for days with included coils
  • Idiot-Proof Wattage Setting

Cons

  • Still not able to offer MTL
  • Slight play/wobble in the pod
  • Display is a bit dim
  • Unable to take wattage higher than recommended.

Final Verdict

So is there really any point in picking the Vinci X up, over the original Vinci models?

Well first off, the coils supplied wont allow you to make the most of that monstrous 70 watts of power, but it will allow you to enjoy a lot more battery life along with the option of swapping batteries out.

Which for the experienced vaper with a stash of 18650’s – I’m pretty sure they’ll be pleased about that.

voopoo vinci x pod mod

Everything else is identical to the original versions, apart from removing the auto switch, and increasing the overall size.

There are just three huge words that stop the Vinci line from being a complete powerhouse…Fully Adjustable Airflow.

Re-think the Airflow VooPoo, and you’re on to an absolute winner.

There’s a number of features that I look at when trying out a device, and for something to score highly, it needs to meet certain demands.

Would this device be long lasting and still work 3, 6 or even 12 months from now?

The Voopoo Vinci X is extremely well made, its typical Voopoo build quality.

And with the added bonus of removable batteries, the Vinci X will absolutely be a long term device as long as you look after it.

Does this device deliver the flavour, vapour and general experience I require, in order to be enjoyed?

The Voopoo Vinci X delivers everything the original Vinci and Vinci R did, but with the added bonus of that extra battery life and a size which might suit some people more so than the smaller versions.

If you’re a DTL vaper, the experience is pretty much spot on.

I could be cheeky and ask for MORE flavour to better compete with some of the best Sub-Ohm Tanks.

So perhaps the Vinci X could be even better?

Is this device versatile to suit a new vaper, and an experienced one a like?

I’m afraid I’ll have to just copy and paste what I said in my original VooPoo Vinci review I wrote earlier in the year!

“Not exactly. Most new vapers start on a mouth to lung vape. This isn’t going to satisfy.

For vapers into Direct-To-Lung vaping that just want a small pocket mod that will almost deliver the flavour and experience of your favourite Sub-Ohm tank and dual battery mod, then the VooPoo Vinci Mod will be right up your street.”

Did you buy the VooPoo Vinci X kit?

Or have you given it a try?

Flat Cap Vaper Reivews
FlatCap Vaper

Hey Folks. Im Gaz, The Flat-cap Vaper. I’m 35, married with 3 kids and I just love Flatcap's and Vaping! I started my e-cigarette journey in 2014 when I entered my local vape shop and got so well looked after, I ditched my 10 year habit of 15 roll-ups a day within 48hrs. Following on from this, my Vaping journey began. I started a Youtube Channel at the beginning of 2019 and so far has had over 500,000+ views. I quickly upgraded my device and that’s when my geeky side took over and I began to experiment with making my own liquid, building my own coils and even my own mods! As a trained electrician I suppose ohms, wattage and voltage runs through my veins so Vaping has become my hobby and a passion that I want to share with everyone.

voopoo-vinci-x-reviewGains a point in design for external battery in my book. But loses a couple at the same time. The wobbly pod and limiting wattage may or may not be a con to you. I like that its limited, but also feel the 0.3ohm coil could do with a tad more power through it. Like the smaller versions, its primarily a DTL vape kit, with no real option for a decent MTL vape. Fit an airflow adjustment and job done! The complete AIO kit will be born.

  1. Ya I also have to HEAVILY disagree. This mod leaks, and the coils last significantly shorter than other coils I’ve used. The plastic flip to fill the tank is cheap and breaks easily causing even more aggressive leaking and painstaking frustration when filling the tank. If you fill the tank to full the coil doesnt pull properly and burns and finally to clean the actual tank is arduous and takes a long time to dry as you cant take it apart. Compared to the magnificent DRAG series the Vinci X is absolutely appalling and should be recalled and destroyed, all evidence of it’s existence should be buried in a deep dark corner never to see the light of day.
Ask me how I really feel.

  2. Same as mine Vinci X leaks so bad also vaperesso target pm 80 leaks bad and it finally gave up so binned it may try the Lux pm 40 if that leaks giving up vaping.

  3. I totally disagree with this good review. This pod is constantly leaking. Search the web for see the scale of the problem. Additionally, voopoo avoid the warranty with this issue saying it is replaceable part. But it doesn’t work even when I change the tank and coil 3 times in last month.
    Strongly not recommend.

  4. I can’t complain about mine after 3 months. I have 3 tanks to change and stuck with the VM4 coils, at 20-22W it’s the best experience with this device for me. They last about a month. Nice enough flavour, sufficient clouds, battery and liquid saving – perfect for going out and not worrying about size and supplies.
It does leak a bit though, not much, but I have to clean base every other day. Why it has a clock setting when you insert a new battery if you can never see the time anywhere is beyond me.

  5. I own a Vinci X. Have had it under 3 months. The magnets that hold the tank on to the mod pop out. Your vape won’t work if you lose them or they are not aligned correctly. You also, if you glue them back, have to pay attention to north and south ends of the magnet, insure the magnets fit properly into the recessed holes they sit in etc. All this to say it’s a pain to own one if you start having this problem. It’s just not durable. There are posts on the internet about these magnets. I’d not buy another Voopoo due to this trouble.

  6. New, not so new vaper here.
Tried using box mods in the past as an alternative to cigarettes but found i was not satisfied with freebase nicotine.
With nic salts making an apearance i thought about giving it another shot.
Used an aspire avp and a breeze for about a month on 20 mg nic salts then the lack of battery and want for more flavour led me to
Pick up this mod 4 days ago.

That’s the .5 coil just burned out using
10 mg nic salts at 20 wats averaging 400 puffs a day.
No leaks on mine so far and finding the airflow better than the avp and breeze which both required carefull placement of an elastic band over part of the airflow to find a decent resistance.
So far I’m finding it to be an exelent device and will hopefully be able to move onto using my old smock v8 tank with the adapter and some low nicotine juice to get the most out of the power available at some point in the future

    • Well done James! Sounds like you’re going a similar route to hw i started off, with a sma kit to start with and slowly progressing as your needs and requirements from your ecig change.

I would hope you will get more than 4 days life out of a coil though, make sure its well primed with e-liquid before vaping and break in slowly, using lower wattage’s at first and building it up. Im sure you’re possibly doing that already?

Always feel free to contact myself or any of the ecigclick team if you ever need advice. And with regards to going back to your Smok tank at some point, I’d recommend looking at some of the other decent Sub-Ohm tanks available for a much better vape than the Smok Tanks, and definitely more reliability.

      • Thank you for the advice will be checking out other tanks to try out rather than the old smok.
Fresh coil is still going strong so not sure what happened with the first one.
Putting it down to chain vaping after dropping the nic level down

  7. Honestly they should call this thing poopoo, coil life most what i got 2 days and total of 280 puffs, battery lasted about 230 pufs at 25w on 0.3 mesh coil and around 180 at recommended 35w( battery is brand new sony vtc5) juice Jam donut( so sweet but not overly) Leaking leaking and more leaking at the bottom( have 3 pods , and 3 different coils tried including rba), need to carry towel what makes this pod “keep at home”.

Piece of poop to be honest, and complete waist of money, nothing even close what they state on box.

  8. hats a real shame you’ve had leaking issues. Mine hasnt been a problem. There is clearly something inherently wrong with the coil placement and tolerances then. Maybe i was just lucky with mine.

  9. In my experience it’s not accurate to say that leaking issues have been resolved. The leaky pods accompanied by the woefully-thin rubber tank stopper that closes over the fill port (which is prone to breaking) have pushed this device to the back of my shelf. A shame, since other aspects of the Vinci X are well-thought-out.
