The Geekvape Aegis pod mod review, and this is the first IP67 rated type C charging device in the industry – as in waterproof.

Those aren’t my own claims – I was just reading from the rear of the box.

I received the Gun Metal version for the purposes of review.

We already know how fast things move in the industry when it comes to pod systems and their design. Recently we reviewed the Smok Alike pod kit, and it also offers the same IP67 standard of waterproofing.

Geekvape made big waves not long back the release of the Aegis Boost Pod Kit. I know many happy owners, most of which are relatively new to the whole vape scene.

So it’s great to see them taking a step back with this vaping category and offering portability as much as all the “proofing” that seems to be currently trending.

What Can We Expect From The Geekvape Aegis Pod Mod?

As well as an IP67 rating the Geekvape Aegis Pod is shock proof with improved toughness.

Its slimline design is purpose made to fit into any trouser pocket. A new modular G coil system is future proof with any of their products featuring power output between 5 -20W.

Made from plastic, silicone, leather and zinc alloy outer shielding the pod will absorb impact. Stated as being anti fracturing and deforming the device is able to evenly distribute stress.

The device throws out a continuous 18W of power, and there’s no fiddling about with output settings and the pod uses fixed airflow.

So what you vape is what you get.

Design and Build Quality

Geekvape Aegis Pod Mod – the Pod

As with most currently on the market, the Geekvape Aegis pod mod is made from a toughened PCTG material.

Although tinted, it’s still very easy to view e liquid levels.

Geekvape Aegis Pod Translucence

This pod differs from many in the omission of magnets when attaching to the battery section.

Instead it clips to the sides of the battery, which makes it slightly more difficult to remove – it does snap nicely into place though with absolutely no movement.
Geekvape Aegis Pod Air Intake Channel

There are a series of slots on one side of the pod at the base, acting as airflow intake, and they make for an airy MTL vape or a restrictive direct lung hit.

Geekvape Aegis Pod Silicone Stopper

The silicone stopper is on the underside of the pod, and I’m happy to inform that it’s very workable. The opening should allow for most bottle nozzle sizes.

Geekvape Aegis Pod Mod – the Battery

The main body of the battery is comprised of colour sprayed zinc alloy.

The trademark Geekvape stitched leather runs through the centre both front and back.

The now familiar stitched leather of Geekvape

The sides of this 18mm pod appear to be a silicon or rubber material along with a healthy dose of branding. It certainly increases the level of comfort when handling.

Surrounded by more zinc alloy, the raised and responsive fire button is situated on the upper portion of the battery. This allows the thumb to rest in a natural position, perfect for vaping.

Geekvape Aegis Pod Battery Contacts
Gold plated contacts inside the battery section. Clips on either side of the battery secure the pod in place.

Finally, the Type C USB port sits out of the way on the bottom. Geekvape has included a small card that warns against charging when wet.

USB Type C Port
Geekvape include a “Please do not charge the device when it’s wet!” card.

I’m a little bit lost as to why they opted against a silicone plug given its IP67 rating.

There isn’t the option of pass-through charging [using whilst charging] but given this is fast type C that’s no biggie.

Geekvape Aegis Pod Mod – Battery Functions

Press the fire button five times to activate the device. Do the same when turning off to preserve battery life.

Press the fire button to vape. The device will automatically time out after ten seconds of continuous vaping – (Denoted by the LED flashing red ten times).

The Geekvape Aegis Pod battery has a number of protective features.

  • High temperature cut out. If the device temperature exceeds 80 degrees Celsius the LED will flash red twice and cease functioning
  • Low battery prompt. If the battery voltage drops below 3.2V the LED will flash red five times
  • No Pod. Attempting to use the battery without the pod results in the LED flashing red three times
  • Short circuit prompt. The red LED will flash eight times
  • Sleep function. The device will enter sleep mode after ten seconds of inactivity
  • Connect pod prompt. The LED will flash in accordance to remaining battery strength

How Does The Geekvape Aegis Pod Mod Perform?

Before we get down to the nitty – gritty let’s get the coil installed and filled with e liquid.

Geekvape Aegis Pod Mod – Installing A Coil

We are provided with the usual plug and play coils.

Simply push it up inside the base of the pod. Three rubber O rings on the coil ensure a snug fit inside the chamber.

How To Fill The Geekvape Aegis Pod Mod

  • Remove the pod from the battery section
  • Open the silicon stopper on the base of the pod
  • Tilt and gently fill the pod with E liquidHow To Fill
  • Replace the silicon stopper ensuring a snug fit
  • Snap the pod back into the battery section

Installed Coil And Liquid

After installing the coil and filling, leave the e liquid to soak into the cotton for five minutes – known as ‘priming your coil‘.

Geekvape Aegis Pod Mod – 0.6ohm G Coil Kanthal Mesh

This is a brand new modular design from Geekvape. Classed as their Hybrid coil, expect to find it in future releases.

I opted for a 50VG/50PG nicotine salt e liquid from NVEE. It’s a generic watermelon profile that’s basic and straightforward – read more about nic salts.

This is a very airy mouth to lung experience. The flavour I received was phenomenal, spilling immediately from the exhale. The sweetness of the fruit was in abundance with the profile being bright, clear and quite intense.

Coil Removal Tool
Having difficulty replacing a coil? Geekvape has already thought of that!

It didn’t take long for the effects of the nicotine salt to kick in. There was also a distinct throat hit, so expect to receive a classic cigarette emulation with strong nic levels.

Cloud production was well balanced for the power output of the coil, allowing for a stealthy vape.

It’s also possible to achieve a restrictive lung hit. It’s my preferred style and to be honest this is how I continued to vape on the device, and there was no loss in flavour quality.

Thicker VG ratio

I used Zeus Juice The Black, a 70VG/30PG ratio with freebase nicotine.

The menthol content immediately jumped out on the exhale being prominent and adding the desired sharpness. The blackcurrant held up well throughout giving a pleasant sweetness on the taste buds. A very refreshing and lively experience all round.

Having more VG, cloud production provided further density and volume when lung hitting on the pod.

Pros

  • Excellent flavour production
  • Solid build and waterproof
  • LED’s visible in direct sunlight
  • Easy to view liquid through pod window
  • Satisfying throat hit from either MTL or restrictive lung vape
  • Included coil removal tool is a nice touch
  • Doesn’t leak

Cons

  • Difficult to remove pod
  • Not quite the classic MTL experience.

Final Review Verdict

Geekvape refer to the Aegis pod mod as being minimalistic. That’s very true, being devoid of the bells and whistles of recent systems. Certainly no bad thing.

It’s probably the most comfortable device I’ve used in a long time. The Geekvape Aegis pod mod is lightweight, slimline and extremely pocket friendly.

The raised fire button makes it easy to locate without having to look.

The power to the coil is instantaneous, and I got an incredibly flavoursome vape, every time – even when the battery strength was dropping.

The 800mAH battery held out for five hours under moderate vaping patterns. The device performed excellently during all periods of drain, and I never felt I was receiving anything less than 18W.

It took a mere thirty minutes to fully recharge using the incorporated type C USB.

Highly Recommended For New Vapers

I highly recommend this to any new vaper. With the correct amount of nicotine it will provide the throat hit craved, and without the cumbersome weight and design that current pod systems are employing.

In fact, in many ways it out performs some of those and definitely puts them to shame with its simplicity of use.

Geekvape are onto a winner with their new kanthal mesh G coils. I can’t fault them, getting consistent flavoursome vapes every time.

There were absolutely no signs of leaking (or condensation for that matter).

I would suggest using E liquid ratios between 50VG/50PG – 70VG/30PG.

Why?

Because that way you’re guaranteed of being able to fill the pod a maximum of four times before swapping coils out.

That’s not my observation, Geekvape themselves suggest replacing them after this period of use.

The good news is replacement coils are readily available now.

Looks like I’m going to be picking some up very soon!

geekvape-aegis-pod-mod-reviewGeekvape return with a highly impressive new pod system. Incorporating elements of their previous designs, the Aegis Pod Kit is compact, slimline, knock proof and water resistant. Oh and the flavour production is pretty darn good too. The thinner winner!

    • Hi, Anonymous! Thanks for swinging by and checking out the reviews. It’s very much appreciated.
As a general rule of thumb with any stock coil I would always advise refilling when the level reaches around the half way point of the cotton wicking ports. It can fall below this but it will avoid any unnecessary dry burning (and potentially ruining) of the cotton itself.
Apply this to any stock coil, regardless of being a juice guzzler or not and its lifespan will be that little bit longer.
Hope this helps and feel free to ask any other questions. Here to help, my friend.
      Cheers again,
      Neil C

  1. I do not understand that it affects 4-5 times. I have been using my pod for over 2 weeks with no loss of taste. Why does GeekVape write something like this?

    • Hi, Castiel83
That’s a very good question. They openly attest to this on their own website. I too found it a bit strange, it’s almost as if they’re underselling a brand new coil design. I’ve had no issues with flavour either – and that’s running 70VG/30PG juice through the pod. They may have based this assumption on a continuous 18W output but that still makes the coil life appear somewhat lame.
Despite this little head scratcher the Aegis Pod is a superb device. One I thoroughly recommend.

Thanks for taking the time to read our reviews,

      Neil
