I’ve got to say, Innokin are releasing some of the best vape devices around at the moment and we hope the Innokin Cool Fire 4 Plus is more of the same.

The first Cool Fire 4 was (and still is) a superb mod that all levels of users were jumping on board with and something I still use regularly.

So how could they improve it with a ‘+’ model? Well, there wasn’t a huge amount that needed improving but the one thing that kept popping up in various vape reviews was that it could do with an improved battery life on the current 2000mah.Innokin Cool Fire 4 plus Review

Ahhh.. I remember the days of getting excited about a 650mAh battery!

That’s where the Cool Fire 4 Plus comes in, same beautiful design but now with a corker of a battery, 3300mah. Is it good enough to make our Best Vape Mod table?

Let’s take a closer look and see what the 4 Plus can offer.

Cool Fire IV Build Quality & Design

The Cool Fire 4 Plus has, thankfully, not strayed far from the original design. It still retains the curved design that fits just right in the palm of the hand.Cool Fire 4 Plus in hand

Yes it is thicker on the side that houses the OLED screen and power button but that’s a given considering the increased 3300 mAh battery capacity. It basically looks like the Cool Fire 4 has been down the gym for a few work outs for a month or two and come out as the plus.

It’s still a super solid vape mod and has a nice weight to it that adds to the quality feel.

The OLED screen is very clear and easy to read for those of us with less than stellar eye sight. The Power button has also grown but provides a satisfying click when fired and is perfectly placed.OLED Screen on the Cool Fire 4

The power button also has the standard tri colour light effect around the button that gives you a rough idea of the remaining battery power:

  • Green = 3.75V or higher
  • Yellow = 3.6V – 3.74V
  • Red = Under 3.6V
  • When the battery reaches 3.3V or lower the red light will flash and the mod will automatically power off. If this happens get it on the charger!

Finishes

There are a few different finishes available in the Cool Fire 4 Plus range, I received the black and red for review which are both quite different.Cool Fire 4 plus logo

The black version has the same finish as the ‘4’, which is a brushed steel that’s almost like a wood grain effect running the length of the mod and it feels great to the touch. The silver/stainless steel version also has this finish.

The red version (and the blue) has a smooth body and from the images I had seen before receiving the product I wasn’t too keen. In the hand though it’s a different story altogether. The smooth finish actually lends itself well to the overall design and again feels quality in the hand.

I personally prefer the finish of the black but of course it’s all personal preference.

Red Cool Fire 4 Plus color option

They have also just released the Storm Edition to coincide with the Star Wars release and this looks cool, all white and if you have the matching Storm Trooper costume you are good to go!CoolFireIV Plus Storm Edition

Functions

Back to the OLED screen and it’s functions. It’s all very easy to use especially for vapers that have used these kind of menu systems on other mods.Innokin Cool Fire IV (4) buttons close up

Here is a quick overview of the control functions accessed from the 3 buttons:

  • On/Off – Click the power button 3 times
  • Press power button (with tank/coil attached) to display remaining battery, coil resistance, volts and watts.
  • A timer that counts in seconds will also display when vaping
  • Press and hold either the ‘+’ or ‘-‘ button, when the volts/watt display flashes you can then use the buttons to scroll up or down to select desired output. This moves in 0.5W or 0.1V increments.
  • Pressing both ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons together to display current coil resistance, battery voltage and number of puffs since you last turned on the device.
  • Finally holding the ‘+’ and ‘-‘ buttons for 3 seconds flips the screen!

Summing up I am again very impressed with the build of the Cool Fire 4 Plus, both finishes feel great in the hand and the materials used add a high end quality feel. It really is a beauty of a mod.

How Does The Cool Fire 4 Perform?

On to the performance. In short I’ll just say straight off the bat, the battery life on this mod is superb. I started off using the iSub G tank with a 0.5 coil and as a moderate vaper I easily got a full 2.5 – 3 days of vaping at around the 25W mark.Cool Fire IV Plus by Innokin

Once the 0.5ohm coil had run it’s course (around 1.5 weeks this time) I swapped it out for the 2.0oHm coil head vaping between 9W-10W, which for my e juice was spot on. Then I struggled to get the battery to run down! I almost lost count of the days I got from the battery with this coil, was around 4 or 5 though, seemed to go forever!

The mod also handled the 0.2ohm coils easily and hovering around the 40W mark was my sweet spot. The battery obviously ran down quicker as expected but still impressive nonetheless.

iSub G Tank PerformanceInnokin iSub G Tank

The flavour and vapour from the iSub g is very good albeit it the tank is a touch on the noisy side.

Also the bottom filling tank isn’t ideal but that’s not a big issue and the addition of the ‘no spill coil swap’ system makes switching coils out super easy without having to empty out your tank.

iSub Apex Tank Performance

iSub Apex prism Airflow ControlThis has been my go-to tank for a while now, I love the top fill design and can fill this up walking down the street in a few seconds. The flavour is excellent as is the vapour produced with the 0.5 ohm coils. Top, top tank.

Innokin have also recently released BVC Clapton coils with their new Apex 5ml capacity tank, we have a separate review for this coming up soon.

Final Innokin Cool Fire 4 Plus Review Verdict

Innokin have knocked it right out of the park again with the Cool Fire 4 Plus. They have made a superb mod, the Cool Fire 4, even better.

The battery life is excellent and the 70W output should keep the majority of vapers happy although I personally vape around 20-25W with the 0.5ohm coils.

The lack of temp control may be an issue for some but Innokin have released the Cortex to cover this area.

The build quality as I have now come to expect with Innokin is superb and considering it has a 3300mAh battery the 4 Plus is still a portable vape mod.

I’ve had no problems at all. Another highly recommended product.

Pro’s

  • Fantastic build quality and form
  • Superb battery life
  • Both the tanks that come with the kit (iSub G and iSub Apex) perform very well
  • 70W of power should be enough to keep most levels of vaper happy

Con’s

  • No real con’s that I can think of.

  1. been vaping on spinner battery for a while been looking for a mod box and after a lot of deliberation decided on the IV plus should be delivered on Friday I cant wait to test it out …. any recommendations for liquids … have a preference for a coffee/caramel type flavour

  2. I have the cool fire iv plus and I use my Lange rye he .5ohm cool but have noticed it I have had to change the wick so often, is it because I use the cool fire iv plus at 23.5w? Should I go for the 1.5ohm so the wick will last longer? This is by far my favorite mod just having a little trouble with this, any thoughts???

    • Hi Jovanna, What tank are you currently using?

23.5W is not high for a 0.5ohm coil so this shouldn’t be a problem

Also, what e-juice do you use? VG/PG ratio and flavour type can have an effect on the coil life. Sweeter e liquids can have ingredients that gunk up your coils a lot quicker.

Let me know on the above.

  3. Great review, thanks, decided to quit smoking and have tried normal vape pipes in the past but they never quite hit the spot for me. Borrowed a mates mod box recently, with that and your review, my Coolfire 4+ is winging it’s way to me right now. Looking forward to becoming a fully fledged vaporer and EX-SMOKER. Cheers, Jon

  4. Hi Jonny, recently purchased the storm edition with the iSub G tank, super happy with the mod and the 0.5 coils are lasting me a long while so far. The only conplaint i have is the tank is on the noisy side on the inhale, and annoys my wife like crazy! Are there any newer tanks that wont look out of place on the white tank, while being quieter? I used a Kangertech Subtank Mini and the connection was sloppy and kept misreading the resistance. It also looked silly with silver/red trim on a white tank with black trim! Great reviews by the way, they are the reason i was drawn to the Cool Fire IV plus in the first place!

    • Hey, Thanks for getting in touch.

I know exactly what you mean, I have the same issue!

The problem is, most sub ohm tanks do create a bit of noise due to them generally having an airier draw.

When I reach the annoying stage with my other half I just adjust my vaping style slightly. By that I mean just drawing very lighlty, almost like I’m just breathing the vapour in rather than sucking. Sad I know but needs must and all that 🙂

Failing that, I revert to a smaller mouth to lung tank when I’m being annoying, such as the Aspire Triton Mini or Aspire Nautilus X. These tend to be quieter, although probably not ideal for what you are after!

      Cheers
      Jonny

      • Thanks Jonny, i’ve since resorted to vaping heavily before bed, and then leaving it for the night! Have you any noise issues with the Apex 5ml tank? That would look ok in black i think, but i guess SO tanks are all fairly noisy.

        • The Apex 5ml was OK for sound from what I remember. It’s a nice looking tank as well, quite long though. Yeah, sub ohm tanks do give off noise in general but it’s definitely a case of some being louder than others. Let me know how you get on!

  5. Hi Jonny,
I’ve been using the T22 tank on my Cool Fire 4, using the stock 1.5 ohm coils at 14W. Have just ordered a pack of the alternative 2.0 ohm BVC coils for this tank, but I can’t seem to find very much information about them. Can you advise the suggested wattage range for these coils? Have you had any experience of using them?
    Cheers
    Trevor

    • Hey Trevor,

I have used the 2 Ohm coils but only on the Endura T22 device.

In answer to the wattage range, it’s really a case of what suits you Trevor. With all new coils I try, despite any recommended wattage range, I just start low and work my way up until I hit my preferred wattage.

Sorry if that’s a bit vague! But it’s the best way to go and would recommend you do this. The Cool Fire 4 will give you plenty of range to experiment.

Let me know how you get on and what wattage you settled on.

      Cheers

      • Cheers Jonny,
Have also just ordered a Nautilus – looking for that perfect mtl experience. I’ll report back when I’ve tried the new coils and the Nautilus.

          • Hi Jonny,

Wasn’t impressed with the 2.0 ohm coils in the T22 tank, but initial impressions of the Nautilus are excellent – so much flavour! Bought the diamond pattern metal tank after reading a lot of reviews and comments, and performance from this is really good so far. My sweet spot seems to be 11w using the 1.8 bvc coils – still deciding if I prefer the 2nd or 3rd air hole.

            Cheers
            Trevor

          • Hey Trevor, good to hear! Vaping’s all about a little bit of experimentation, sounds like your getting there!. The metal tank looks pretty cool. Should help protect it as well!

            Cheers

            Jonny

  6. got one gonna buy another as a back up ! fantastic bit of kit, isub g gives full flavour and massive clouds if wanted, cant put it down!!!

  7. An excellent device. I like the red one but would not mind the Storm Edition either. Never vape over 70 watts anyway. Cannot wait for payday!!

  8. 70W power output
    3300mAh battery
    Ergonomic
    Vape whilst charging
    Coils last AGES before replacement
…innokin… What else needs to be said

  9. Good TC Mod, with 3,400 mah that will last for a day. i Sub G Tank a nice tank with good airflow control decent vapor production and decent vapor production

  10. Great mod and a Great review 10/10 , Got mine and loving it despite it now being a little worse for wear after it went flying across the pavement it’s still working. Can not see many mod’s that would have survived such a hit and still work. and the Apex tank that was fitted did not even crack “Awesome”. Just goes to show the Quality Innokin put in to their Build. Only thing i would have liked to have had at the time of getting my Kit, would have been the option of getting the Black Cool Fire iv Plus with the Black Apex 5 as a kit.

  11. The coil exchange feature did it for me . I hate having to empty the tank on my current device to exchange a dirty coil. Great review!

  12. innokin are top quality 🙂 … solidly built, great vaping, doesnt give throat hits like some brands do and the rechargeable battery is brilliant …never run low in a day ,,,,fab piece of kit
    thanks guys
    lorraine

  13. I’ve watched several reviews on this kit and I’d love to get my hands on it. My son took my 20w and nautilus mini tank and would love to replace it LOL

  14. My Coolfire 4 has seen better days so i think i will be upgrading to the plus, and it sounds like a worthy upgrade. Thanks for the review

  15. I must say what a fantastic in depth review from you, a very enjoyable read.
The cool fire 4 plus kit looks quality, as you say a great battery life ,choice of two good tanks, Do I like it oh yes, Will I read more reviews Definitely. Cheers….???

  16. This looks really good but does it support tanks that aren’t sub ohm? Like the aspire mini nautilus? The cool fire 4 does but I would rather get the plus but I still want to use my mini nautilus if possible

    • Hi Steve,

The Cool Fire 4 Plus does support coils over 1.0ohm. It will fire coils upto 3.5Ohm and works with a power output from 6W/2V so will definitely work with higher resistance coils from the nautilus.

I have used the T22 tank which has 1.5ohm coils with this mod and works well at 10.5-11.5 Watts for my tastes.

So while the wattage is definitely overkill for the Nautilus tank the 3300 mah battery life will last a good amount of time with the coils you use.

      Cheers

      Jonny
