The Innokin Cool Fire 4 TC 18650 is the latest of the Cool Fire 4 range of mods, and fourth in total. Oh…This isn’t including the Storm Edition! We can’t leave that one out.

I have been a huge fan of the Cool Fire 4 range and have used all of the devices on a regular basis. From the original Cool Fire 4, then onto the Cool Fire 4 Plus and the recent Cool Fire 4 TC100. The latter of which I use on a regular basis.Innokin Cool Fire 4 TC18650 Review

So what’s different with the new Innokin mod?

As the name suggests, this version offers a replaceable 18650 battery to power the mod. That’s the main difference, the rest we will cover in the review.

Build Quality and Design

For users of any of the Cool Fire 4 mods, the design will be very familiar.

If anything the quality of the TC 18650 is actually a step up. Innokin have tweaked certain elements, improving the fire and function buttons in particular.Innokin-Cool-Fire-4-TC18650-Review

I had no issue with these on the other versions but when sitting side by side the TC 18650 buttons have an even more solid, streamlined look.

Both buttons have a very satisfying click to them. On first use the fire button was a touch on the noisy side but this soon became an after thought the more I used it.

The +/- function buttons are actually one button. They are activated easily with the thumb by simply pressing to the left or the right. kind of a pivot motion if that’s the right way of describing it!

The other improvement are the venting holes, which have increased in size. There are twenty of these situated on the side of the device.Cool Fire 4 TC18650 Vent holes

The mod, in the standard kit, is available in Black (Brushed finish), Brushed Steel and White.

In the Travel Kit, the TC18650 is offered in Black, Red, Blue and Silver. All in the brushed finish.
I had the brushed Steel for review and the finish is superb, a seriously classy looking bit of kit.Innokin Cool Fire 4 18650 temp control

Size

Size wise the Cool Fire 4 TC 18650 sits more in the original Cool Fire 4 range. It’s a fraction wider overall but also houses a larger OLED screen while housing Innokin’s new Aethon chipset found in the recent TC100 mod.Cool Fire 4 TC8650 Cool Fire 4 Plus

The micro USB port has been removed, which does, of course, mean no charging in the mod or pass through vaping.

I do like these features generally in my mods but with the TC 18650 having a removable battery it always makes sense to use a quality external charger.

So it goes without saying you will need to buy one of these if you haven’t already. Nitecore have quality chargers available.

I don’t have the biggest hands but it sits perfectly in my palm and with the 18650 battery and iSub V tank installed has a solid feel to it.

The only thing I found an issue with was some tanks didn’t fit flush and left a gap.

Base / 18650 Battery

Base of the Cool Fire 4 TC18650 mod

The base of the mod features the battery cap. The battery is installed by way of a screw down cap. There is a latch that lifts from the cap, this is easily screwed in and out.Innokin Cool Fire IV TC18650 Battery cap

The threading here is excellent, buttery smooth. This section has been engineered well to sit flush with the base of the mod as well.Innokin Cool Fire IV 18650 battery Threading

It has to be mentioned and is refreshing to see, the instruction manual that comes with the kit. Innokin have included a section in the manual that covers eleven points of battery safety. Something that too many manufacturers seem to bypass.Cool Fire 4 TC18650 vape mod

They also recommend using authentic Samsung, Sony or LG 18650 batteries.

Not only this, Innokin have provided, as standard, a silicone battery case to carry around one 18650 battery. Please use this! It will stop the battery coming into contact with any metal objects and shorting.18650 battery case Cool Fire IV TC18650

TC-1850 Hard Sided Zip Travel Case

Innokin Cool Fire 4 TC18650 Travel Case

To state the obvious, the travel case is only available with the Innokin Cool Fire 4 TC 18650 Limited Edition Travel kit.

It’s a quality case although not dissimilar in looks to other cases I have seen.

The hard case finish is nice on the Innokin case with the addition of a battery checker built in. This gives you an idea of your remaining battery life by way of 5 lights. Just place the magnetic connections on each end of your 18650 battery.

There is plenty of room inside for your mod, tank, spare battery and a few spare coils.

How Does The Innokin Cool Fire 4 TC 18650 Perform?

Before we get into the actual performance of the mod, let’s take a look at the functions and how they work.

If you have used the Cool Fire 4 TC100 mod, the functions and workings are the same.

There are just 3 buttons to deal with. The power and two function buttons (+ and -)

  • 3 Click on/off
  • Press Power and +/- buttons together: Changes mod between W / Ni / SS / Ti
  • Press +\- buttons separately to cycle through preferred wattage temperature setting
  • Press power and ‘-‘ button to select ramp up wattage (25-75W)
  • Press +/- together to see exact coil resistance, voltage and puff counter
  • Keep pressing +/- buttons together to flip the screen
  • Battery level indicator lights when pressing the power button or powering off. Red, yellow and green. These colors give an idea of battery life.

In addition to the above, the TC18650 has the same coil recognition as the Cool Fire TC100. Not surprising as they are booth powered by the Aethon chipset.

It makes the mod pretty much fool proof when it comes to choosing between temp control and wattage mode.

Every time you remove and replace your tank the mod will ‘ask’ you if you have the ‘Same Coil’, ‘Ni’, ‘Ti’, ‘SS’ or ‘W’.Innokin Cool Fire IV TC18650 OLED Screen

If you have been vaping and remove the tank, you will need to wait for the coil / vape juice to cool and reach room temperature before re-attaching or the mod will not calibrate your coil correctly.

Everything is super simple to use and one of the simplest temp control mods to get to grips with.

The only issue I had was the indicator lights on the power button that give an idea of battery life remaining. I could barely make it through the power button itself. Instead, I had to look through the side vent holes to see the color.

Not a big deal but worth mentioning.

The battery life was good and as expected from my 18650. I mainly vaped around the 40-50W range for this review.

iSub V Tank Performance

The performance of the mod, paired with the iSub V ‘E’ tank is very good. Pressing the fire button provides an almost instant vape, or 0.2 seconds to be exact according to Innokin!

The temp control worked very well, as would be expected.

I personally preferred the flavor from the stainless steel coils other the Ni200 and Titanium.

Cloud production was good with all coils.Innokin iSub V 'E' Tank

The new iSub V ‘E’ tank which has been produced with the TPD regulations in mind in the UK/Europe.

It goes without saying the juice in this tank doesn’t last long, the Cool Fire 4 TC 18650 kit does come with the 3ml version so a touch better. This is no fault of Innokin’s, it’s due to be law come May next year.

I also used the Aspire Nautilus X tank with the TC18650, which offers a great mouth to lung vape. The battery life with this tank and the 1.5Ohm coils was excellent, unsurprisingly.Innokin Cool Fire 4 TC18650 with Aspire Nautilus X

What I Like

I’m a big fan of the Cool Fire 4 form factor as a whole. The great thing here is that Innokin have tweaked the TC 18650 to make it a touch better. A solid mod, well engineered, that looks great in the brushed Steel and feels good in the hand.

The Aethon chip performs well and handles temp control no problem. The click to vape time is super quick.

Menu and temp control selection is simple to use, even for vapers new to temperature control.

What I don’t Like

Not a huge amount here! The only real thing that didn’t work out for me was the battery indicator lights. I could only make these out through the vent holes on the mod.

The only other thing I picked up on is that the power button ‘click’ is quite loud. I did get used to this, however.

Final Innokin Cool Fire 4 TC 18650 Review Verdict

Pros

  • Excellent build quality and finish
  • Menu system simple to use
  • Very good performance
  • Takes a removable 18650 battery

Cons

  • Could not see battery indicator lights on the power button
  • The ‘Click’ of the power button is quite loud. Doesn’t bother me but may some vapers.

innokin-cool-fire-4-tc-18650-reviewDo you need this if you already have the Cool Fire 4 TC100? No. Is it a good option for vapers who are looking for a single 18650 temp control mod? Most definitely!

  1. Love this but my only problem is battery power levels.
With a fresh battery I get about 4 hours use before it flashes red and I have to change battery.
However when I remove battery and test it I find that it still has half a charge so I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this problem with the device not reading the battery correctly.

  2. I have had my cool fire 4 for a few weeks and the only thing that is bothering why is my juice always leaking. I think I’m doing everything right but obviously not. And helps and tips. Mandy robinson

  3. This new mod sounds/looks very interesting, though I think I’m spoiled by my charger cord with pass through. I bet I’d get used to the battery-changing, however, but I do wonder how much the batteries cost, as I’d love to have two on hand. Going to go look that up.

    • Thanks for the comment! Replaceable batteries certainly aren’t for everyone Lisa, just be sure you get good batteries from a trusted vendor. Cheapest aren’t always the best. It’s always advisable to buy an external charger as well so another cost there 🙂

  4. Cool Fire 4 is sweet looking and replaceable battery. I have the Disrupter and even though its an older model and has it own battery cell. Its still a great working mod.

  5. Great design, perfect setup, what an awesome looking mod, one that I’ll be getting, another great product from innokin.

  6. what an improvement !!!!!
unlike my cool fire 4 , this one i can take out all day with a spare batterie in my pocket , plenty enough power and for me the most important is the ss tc that works like a charm.
also the small size factor , the built quality and the classy look is a major plus .

  7. Wow, I could look at the brushed steel version for hours 😉 It’s so beautiful! Also, anything that doesn’t come with a replaceable battery I don’t really consider buying, so that’s a big PRO to me now.

  8. You guys always have the best reviews! I was looking at the Innokin Cool Fire 4’s! I’ve been wanting to get a new mod to take out with me for a while! I really like this one! A buddy of mine has one with an internal battery. I really like the fact that this one uses 18660’s. Keep the awesome reviews coming!

  9. Such a thorough review, thanks! The only con I can find with the Cool Fire range is aesthetics (minor and subjective, I know). That flip-out ring looks nifty!

  10. Innokin are up there with the best quality mods going, might not be the biggest and most beastly but you can count on them to provide a DECENT product every time, would love to have one of these 🙂

  11. From all CoolFire family, I like this one because there is improved in hardware and or features. With brush finish bring this mod more attractive and elegant. Love this improvement.

  12. I have a Coolfire IV 40w mod, as well as a Wismec Reuleaux RX200, but I’m looking for something with a little more power and not as bulky, respectively. I think this would do the job nicely.

  13. Looks great! Makes me want to get a couple for me and my hubby even though we have more devices than we use.

  14. Another in depth quality review once again , would I like one after your review most definitely , thank you ……

  15. Planning to upgrade my vaping. this device looks like the appropriate next step in reaching vaping-maturity.

Based on the appraisal in this review i think this device combines advanced vape technology with a comprehensible lay-out and functions for less experienced papers, building the bridge that will help me get to the subsequent point of my vaping life.

Usually I find it difficult to rely on reviews (often biased or certain interests involved) but because i bought a previous “starter kit” (Kangertech Subvod: https://www.ecigclick.co.uk/kanger-subvod-review/) based on the review I have faith in the quality of the review and hence the quality of the product.

For now I can only judge the looks of this version of the Innokin Cool fire, and I must say it looks smooth.

The only issue i might find here based on the pictures is the horizontal placing of the – and the +. placing it horizontally makes the buttons rather small and very close.

    • Hey Steve, thanks for the comment.

Yeah I see what you mean with the +/- buttons. It is something I didn’t think to mention in the review and need to add.

The function buttons I think are actually well designed. They look close together but they are in fact one button so it’s just a case of pressing, with one finger or your thumb, to the left or right. I guess it’s like a pivot type of motion.

Not sure if that’s the best explanation but hopefully you get what I mean!

      Cheers

      Jonny

  16. I have liked all of the Cool Fire series. This has one major vast improvement. 18650 replaceable battery! Hats off to Innokin!

  17. WOW! Really interesting design, precised description of coils, and innovative ventilation holes.. Perfect mod in its rage.

  18. Really great, thorough review. I really like the looks of the TC 100! Innokin is a great brand, quality products! Thanks for the great review!

  19. Great review, I like the coolfire series and this one has been on my wishlist for some time ( also the TC100 )
I really like they made it with a seperate battery even though it drop downs the wattage, I almost never go above 67W.

  20. Seems that this company always hits it out park. Attention to details and quality to parts. I guess why cool fire wasn’t put to rest at number 1 . I felt they constantly step up the game on each mod they build. I don’t own one my self but hope to soon. I felt the reviews was spot on and very full of info. Wasn’t any questions left not answered.

  21. The Innokin cool fire IV is the mod for me! A mod that performs as advertised, Temperature control, the option to swap batteries and between 75-100 watts. This is it, the CoolFire IV 75w TC. Thanks for the review!!

  22. Perfect mod for me, don’t need too much power. Just a very reliable mod that performs well, looks good, accurate temp control with the option to change batteries. This is it!

  23. innokin was first mod i used to give up smoking cant complain its improved my health and saved me money well done innokin

  24. Great review. I’m really glad they finally came out with a Cool Fire that has a removable battery. It seems like an awesome mod. I definitely want one.

  25. Always loved the Cool Fire 4 range but wondered what to do once the battery got ‘old and tired”, this seems an ideal solution.

  26. I am new to vaping and I am researching products and this one has caught my eye because it has Temp Control compatible with Ni200, Ti and SS. Also it is small and would fit my small hands.

  27. I really like the fact that you can change the battery. Always seemed a waste to throw away a mod when the battery craps out

  28. I’ve been a huge fan of the Cool Fire IV series since the original was released. I’m currently on the TC version, but this looks like a great, solid option for those who travel a lot and wouldn’t mine packing spare batteries, if they can’t charge on the road.

  29. Innokin cool fire 4, looks like a great device. It’s great that TC mode would work better. It’s been on my wish list.
