The Smok Nord 2 Kit has some interesting options along with its gorgeous looks, so will it live up to the reputation of its little brother as the best of the best?Smok Nord 2 pod review

SMOK is a prolific e-cigarette manufacturer and one of the most famous and are obviously based in China, and really need no long introduction from me to the wider vaping community.

The manufacturer has been in the business for a long time and have many devices under their belts including pod systems like the RPM40, SMOK RPM80, Infinix 2, Trinity Alpha, Novo 2 and not forgetting the original Nord pod mod.

What Can We Expect From the SMOK Nord 2 Kit?

I can’t tell you how much I have been looking forward to getting my mitts on the Nord 2 vape kit after seeing all the promotional advertising for it.

As you can tell by the name of the kit, the Nord 2 – this is an updated version of their very popular original kit the Nord, so in my mind it has got big boots to fill!

The original Nord Kit was by far and still is SMOK’s best selling and most popular pod system of the last year, and it still a big favourite of mine!

I use it much of the time with nic salt and CBD e-liquids.Nord 2 Vs Nord compared

SMOK has fully improved this updated version by including a new chipset to allow more power. They’ve also added a little OLED screen with which you are able to dial your preferred wattage up to 40w and the battery capacity is upped to that of the original.

The Nord 2 is also able to take advantage of different coils, to give you a varied vaping experience.

Or simply be a case of NO not another pod vape!

Is it going make the list of best pod mod vapes?

Let’s crack on with our in depth Smok Nord 2 review to find out.

This kit was kindly sent to us for review by SMOK, and as always my thoughts and views on this product are my own after a considerable testing period.

SMOK Nord 2 Kit

Measuring in at 95mm by 30.5mm with at body thickness of 20mm with a pod attached the weight is around 80g, the Nord 2 is slightly thicker and just a hair taller than the original Nord.

The device is made, primarily, of a zinc alloy and plastic, and both the battery (body) and the pods are of good quality with a great design and manufacture with a hand comfort that matches is predecessor.Smok Nord 2 kit in hand

Battery/Body

Straight out of the box, the device has plastic protectors on all 4 sides.pod film protectors

Looking into the deep clean pod bay you will see 2 spring contact pins and 4 hatch screws.Bay for pod

There are 2 depression slots inside on the front and back of the bay for your pod cartridge to click into place.

Both sides of the device have an airflow slot at the top of the bay.fixed airflow on body

On the bottom of the Nord 2 device you will find your micro USB port in white you will see they have printed “IQ-N Chip”.IQ-N Chip and USB port

With a 1500mAH battery capacity the SMOK Nord 2 is more powerful than its predecessor enabling up to 40w of power with the correct coil, with a coil resistance range of 0.3Ω to 3.0Ω.

Smok Nord 2 and RPM Pods

The plastic pods that come with the kit are made of PETG with clear tanks and black tops they have a good quality of manufacture.Empty RPM Pods

Both pods have side fill ports and replaceable coils.Rubber bung fill port

One pod will take Nord coils and compatibles like the Reewape Ruok RBA, the other pod takes the RPM mesh coil options and the rebuildable SMOK RPM RBA.

Note: neither of the Nord 2 pods actually fit in either of the older pod systems because of the size difference.

If you are familiar with either the Nord or the RPM you will find that the mouth pieces of the each Nord 2 pod cartridges are similar in design, with the Nord mouth piece hole being slightly narrower than the RPM drip tip/mouthpiece.Smok Nord 2 drip tips

The coil options SMOK has supplied and pre installed into each pod with this kit are:-

  • RPM Mesh 0.4Ω DTL Coil best up to 25w
  • Nord DC 0.8Ω MTL Coil best up to 16wNord DC Coil and RPM Mesh coil

How Does the Smok Nord 2 Pod System Perform?

Basic Quick Start Guide

Before we get into how this kit performed, let’s take a quick look at how to set things up!

How to Fill the Pods and Change the Coils

I recommend you empty any liquid before changing to a new coil.

  1. Pull the pod from the battery and remove old coil.
  2. Prime the new coil by dropping a few drop of e-liquid onto the cotton within the coil.prime the coil
  3. Simply push the new coil into the pod.Smok Nord 2 RPM coil
  4. Pull the rubber plug and fill with liquid replace the plug firmly.how to fill the Smok Nord 2 pods
  5. Let the pod stand for 2/3 minutes so the cotton can soak up more e-liquid.

Basic Battery Operation

Before using the SMOK Nord 2 device for the first time please ensure you get that battery capacity maxed out with a full charge.USB cable

  • 5 rapid clicks will turn the device on and off.
  • Click the fire button quickly 3 times until the wattage flashes holding the button down will alter the wattage adjustment from 1 to 40w with a round robin!

Note: there is no down adjustment.

OLED charging

  • Removing and replacing the pod will reset your puff count, or when the count reaches 999 puffs it will auto reset to 0.

Safety Protections

  • Pod Detection
  • Short circuit protection
  • 8 second cut off
  • Low voltage protection

SMOK Nord 2 Flavour and Cloud

For this review I will be using first the RPM Mesh 0.4Ω coil with the pod filled with Hazelnut Cold Brew Frappe.Pod hand check

And then the Nord DC 0.8Ω MTL coil with the pod filled with Warriors Big Vova (strawberry/apple/citrus).OLED screen

RPM Mesh: 0.4Ω Coil

I started off at 20w and soon climbed to 25w then to 30w the vapour was good and cloudy not humongous dense by any means but nice, the flavour was descent and tasty.

Trying to push the wattage up more than 30w I found that the vapour became a little too hot for me and included a little spit back of liquid!testing the 0.4ohm RPM coil

Nord DC 0.8Ω Coil

Putting the other pod into the device with the Nord coil in it was very much on par with the original Nord pod system.

I started at 8w through to 15w then up to 18w the vapour was very good on all levels as was the flavour.

I did try and push the coil over 18w but found that again like the 0.4Ω coil, it was a hot vape with a little spit back.

SMOK Nord 2 Airflow

I wouldn’t call either pods too airy, the RPM mesh coil is definitely a direct to lung vape and the Nord coil while being a direct to lung vape has a nice restriction that at lower wattages, I am able to mouth to lung quite nicely with it.pod and e-liquid

SMOK Nord 2 Battery life etc

The battery life was good around 4 to 4.5 hours at 12w using the Nord 0.8Ω coil and 3.5 hours using the 0.4Ω at 22w.

I didn’t reach 999 puffs with either pod or coil so I can’t state that the unit resets to 0, however every time I took the pod out to check liquid levels it did reset to 0! Which if I am honest is quite frustrating lol.liquid display

Sadly you cannot use the Nord 2 as a pass through device (vape while charging). However this time SMOK has included a descent size micro USB cable with the kit.

I was a little disappointed that SMOK didn’t use the newer USB-C charge port with this device!

Pros

  • Very good quality kit
  • Good design
  • Good Vapour production
  • Good Flavour production
  • Addition of the new OLED screen
  • Easy to use
  • 1500mAh battery = Good life
  • Excellent coil life
  • Excellent coil range options

Cons

No big concerns with this kit.

Final Review Verdict

Has the SMOK Nord 2 lived up to its predecessor’s reputation and filled those big boots?

In my opinion yes it has and more, not only can you now choose your own wattage with the new screen, SMOK has given you option of different coil types to plug into your pods and the unit will accept a larger coil resistance to that of the original Nord.

With a larger battery for longer vape time what’s not to love!

Only one little annoyance to me is every time you pull the pod to check your liquid the puff count is reset to 0.

Would I recommend this pod system?

In one word “Yes” if like me you loved the original Nord I can guarantee the Nord 2 will be right up you ally!

This unit in my opinion is suitable for all levels of vaper.

Would I buy the SMOK Nord 2 again due loss or damage?

My old Dad would often say in a rhetorical statement “Do bears crap in the woods”? So yes I would.

I wouldn’t replace my regular vape mods with this one, but I will use it as a 2nd carry around, in fact I can see myself buying 2 or 3 more just to keep Mrs J from nicking this one lol.

So, have you or would you buy the SMOK Nord 2 pod system? Do you think it beats the original?

Hi my name is Kevin, I started vaping back in 2009 mainly because my little boy at 3 years old was starting to copy the way daddy smoked a cigarette! Over the years I have gained a good amount of experience with different types of vaping hardware but I'm just a normal guy who enjoys sharing my experiences. This is why I started my Youtube vape review channel in 2014. To date the channel has had over 500,000 views. Being disabled, vaping has given me a gateway to meeting people from all different walks of life, many of those I would not have met under other circumstances. The way I look at my reviews is, if I can convince just one person to give up the stinky’s my job is done. I class myself as a tinkerer as I like to take things apart to see how they work and put them back together, yes that includes e-cigarette mods! One day I would like to be able to design my own mod. I am a dedicated father, and husband to my sweetheart of nearly 30 years! Family to me comes before anything else.

  1. After extensive frustration and testing, I found if you make sure all the O-rings and there seats are completely dry (I use a Q-tip) when inserting a new coil, it helps immensely if not resolves the leaking issues. However with age or if you drop or jar the pod itself, the plastic seams will begin to leak and obviously its time for a new pod.

  2. my vape nord 2 leaks a lot!! tried eerything and cannot get it to stop the vape stores that I went to with this omplaint says its the product the Nords are known for a lot of leaking…is this true?????

    • Hi Mary, sad to say the Nord whichever version you have will have some leaking issues, I own both the original as well as versions 2 & 4, while all mine leak a little – which I am hyper aware of; I tend to pull the pod often to check! The issue is not with the Nord itself but with how the coil seats with in the pod sadly there is nothing that can be done as a user! I have notice if the kit becomes to hot it will leak more and also if the kit is cold it leaks! one tip I can give you, if you know you are not going to use the kit for a few hours remove the pod, wipe the bay out and wrap the pod in tissue.

  3. Just got my Nord 2 after getting home from the hospital (not COVID) and I was super stoked to try it out! This is my first vape mod of ANY type.

My last vape experience was SEVERAL months ago and I was loving my NJOY Ace, but they slowly started phasing them out after “all the vape deaths,” so I was kinda disappointed and they got to be really expensive as well.

I was nervous to switch from the NJOY to an actual mod because I have zero technical inclination/knowledge. The only thing I knew about them was that you have to prime it and that seemed like a little bit of a hassle.

Once I got it started, everything else has been pretty easy. I didn’t see any “priming instructions,” but it seems to work just fine.

Looking forward to learning a little more because I sure as hell don’t want to go back to smoking outside……..not in this heat, no thank you!

  4. Great pod vape. I have been an avid vaper since 2016 and this does the trick. With a newborn baby at home I was looking to fulfill my vape and nic needs with smaller vapor production. Well with the Nord 2 all my old mods regulated and non, mechs and all are now collecting dust.
The Nord 2 with the rpm coil out of the box and regular 3mg premium juice. EXCELLENT VAPOR PRODUCTION AND TASTE! No leaks nothing.
The Nord 2 coil included I have been using 30mg salt nic. Packs the nic punch I’m looking for with every hit. Perfect and exactly what I wanted in a pod vape system.

Note: The nord 2 DOES NOT reset the puff count if you click 5 times to turn device off first, before pulling pod out.

Also it does have pass through vape charging. Just gotta turn it on while its charging.

    5 Stars

  5. Hi, if you switch the Nord 2 off, then remove the pod to check levels or replace coil, replace the pod and then switch back on, it doesn’t reset your puff count.

  6. The Nord 2 is a nice piece of kit. Only complaint I have is constant leaking. Fluid leaks when it’s just sitting there. Leaks when I use it. I’ve tried a number of solutions offered on the net. Nada The only one that helps a bit is not pushing the pod all the way into the unit. I cut and bent a normal paper clip to stop the pod from going all the way in. A lot better, but still leaks. When I asked Smok for support, they said they’d refund the purchase price. Pretty shitty support.

  7. I’m in the UK and just purchased a 4.5ml pod for the Nord 2, however it looks exactly the same as the 2ml – is this normal, I assume it has to be the same size to fit in, but how does it hold more liquid? Are the 2ml pods thicker plastic? Just want to make sure I’ve not been ripped off and sent 2ml pods!

    • There a rubber thing in the 2ml it in the mouth piece there a video on youtube that shows you how to take it out

  8. 8 year vaper here. My smok pro color finally bit the dust after 2 years. I was looking to find an exact replacement. All my stores are short on inventory due to COVID, and this was the best option available. It absolutely did not disappoint! My pro color was like carrying a small handgun in my pocket and was always annoying. I just assumed that’s how it goes.. boy was I wrong, this Nord2 packs just as good a punch as all my previous mods. Why did I wait this long to try a pod system. The discrete portability is unmatched. And like I said. It packs a punch.. adjustable watts is clutch.

  9. I have the SMOK Nord 2 and yes it does leak. Unfortunately the pod “fogs” up and causes dripping. I’ve had a substantial amount of liquid pool up under the pod. I first thought it was the coil, but as testing has shown me it was not. I’ve found by only pushing the pod in enough that the coil makes contact with the firing plate (if that’s what u call it), then more air gets in and it doesn’t leak. It is definitely annoying and had I known this prior to buying, I wouldn’t have.

  10. Hi, prior to getting the Nord 2 x 2, I was using the Vype epen 3. I really enjoyed using the vype but it was becoming prohibitively expensive, 2 x pods a day =£10. The Vype has a really good draw, not airy and a really good taste (previously I was a rollie with Holborn yellow) so:
Where am I going wrong? Should I be using different coils? I’m not a big cloud lover, I need to feel the draw. I know flavour is a personal thing so I’ll find my own way there

  11. I just received my Nord 2 pod and it does not leak but it is loose. I tood the pod out to check my CBD oil level and twice to refill it. The pod gentle rocks back and fourth. I don’t think the pod will last long.

  12. Hi, I’ve recently stopped smoking (1 month) am currently using a Smok Trinity Alpha with nic salts and a 0.6 nord mesh coil. Would you recommend the Nord 2 over what I am using now? Thanks

  13. Just an FYI, the nord 2 IS a pass through device. Unlike the nord, you have to click twice when it’s charging and start to pull. I pass through charge and vape often. The nord was a single press.

  14. I have ordered the Nord 2 and am eagerly waiting for it. Is the Nord 2 not running out? (leaking) I saw on YouTube that the Nord 1 ran out very often.

    • Hey Stephen, I’ve had the Nord 2 going for 2/3 weeks the only leakage I’ve had is when I didnt bung up the fill port correctly lol
Since doing this review I have tested both the pods with the coils in sitting on tissue for 2 days neither of them have leaked!
So it looks like Smok have improved the fitment of the coils over the original Nord. cheers
