Vaping BAD Says EU Health Organization

EU lung health experts refuse to say vaping is a safer alternative to smoking – due to what they say is a lack of evidence and add that going cold turkey is the ebst way to quit smoking!

Yeah I know!

The European Respiratory Society also claims more and more none smokers are turning to e-cigarettes at what they call an ‘alarming rate’!

ers anti-vape

The ERS published its thoughts in the European Respiratory Journal, and give 7 reasons why they think vaping is dangerous:

  • Smokers can quit with will-power alone and don’t need ‘reduced harm’ products like e-cigarettes
  • The tobacco epidemic can be reduced with measures that already exist on a population level – such as plain cigarette packets, anti-smoking campaigns and free national anti-smoking programmes
  • There are ‘undocumented assumptions’ that alternative nicotine delivery products are highly effective to aid someone stopping smoking
  • There are ‘incorrect assumptions’ that smokers will replace smoking with e-cigarettes alone, and instead use both products
  • Switching from cigarettes to e-cigarettes may be ‘less harmful’, but it is not ‘harmless’
  • E-cigarettes do not prevent smoking in non-smokers – vaping is a habit picked up by people who have never smoked, ‘normalising’ the habit in society
  • There are effective smoking cessation medications and services already

A spokesman said:

Evidence on the safety and the effectiveness of alternative nicotine delivery products as a smoking cessation tool is still lacking, while use of nicotine-containing products is spreading to non-smokers, which is most alarming.

Therefore, ERS cannot recommend tobacco harm reduction as a population-based strategy.

Wow…the ignorance is big with this crowd…

It goes without saying there are so many scientific studies to refute ALL the claims made, that I don’t need to go into too much detail here!

Hands up if you’re one of the smokers that tried everything from will-power to patches and found vaping was the ONLY thing that worked!

prof john britton

I could go on – and on – but let’s leave it to the awesome Professor John Britton, director of the UK Centre for Tobacco & Alcohol Studies:

They (the authors) are so opposed to nicotine dependency in any form that they are risking the lives of smokers who would benefit by switching completely to e-cigarettes.

There is nothing in this new paper that should change advice to smokers.

If you smoke, switch.

If you don’t smoke, don’t vape.

And just as you wouldn’t buy unlicensed alcoholic drinks, don’t vape cannabis or other bootleg products.

Wise words indeed.

Canada: Nova Scotia Bans Flavoured E-liquids – More To Follow?

All flavoured e-liquid products will be banned in Nova Scotia from April 1st 2020.

A perfect date for such a ridiculous ban – but I digress.

philipines vape ban

Meanwhile politicians in Ontario are eying a possible total flavour ban too with a spokesman for the Progressive Conservative government saying:

We do know there is more to be done so we are taking a look at the flavoured vapes.

We are looking at the nicotine content in vapes.

We are looking at where vaping products should be sold … we will be taking more steps, absolutely.

How the hell they can call themselves ‘progressive’ with this kind of thinking is beyond me – I shall of course be keeping an eye on that issue.

Nova Scotia Vape Ban

Nova Scotia becomes the first province in Canada to rule on a total ban – Prince Edward Island is considering one too.

The politicians there are calling for public input and want feedback from all involved, both pro and anti vaping groups.

flavourings

Nova Scotia says the ban is necessary not only due to an apparent uptake in youth vapers – but alarming say the amount of vapers means more people could be classed as tobacco users!

WTF!!!

Health Minister Randy Delorey said:

This is about reducing the rates.

What we’ve seen in the last couple of years since e-cigarettes have become widely available in Canada and indeed throughout much of North America is a rapidly growing rate, in particular youth vaping.

The ban comes on the back of a survey that apparently showed 95% of young people that vape do it for the flavours and 48% said they would quit if there was a flavour ban.

Yeah right…

The Canadian Cancer Society was pleased with the proposed ban.

Not begin a cynic here, but if all the vapers return to smoking, then lung cancer will increase meaning they won’t be out of a job or funding anytime soon…

Me a cynic?

Naw…

A spokesman for the CCS said:

It’s a decision that we’re really pleased with.

This is really kind of taking action that’s concrete today, and then those supportive measures will hopefully come in place in the spring.

Ridiculous…and deadly.

Big Jump In Youth Vaping In the US?

Latest figures suggest a significant rise in the number of young people vaping in the USA.

However, and as you might expect, the way the figures are being manipulated and reported, are open to conjecture.

CDC vape deaths

The stats have been released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention [CDC] and suggest there’s now 6.2million teen vapers in the US a slight rise.

The main argument against the alleged rise is raging across social media.

I found the best case to dispute the figures was made by Sheila Vakharia PhD MSW on Twitter [@MyHarmReduction].

Rather than me clumsily crunching through the numbers, I suggest you take a look at her excellent breakdown [above].

Ooo La La! Dinner Lady Retail Hits France

If you’re heading across the channel to stock up on cheap booze for Christmas, Dinner Lady now has retail shops in all Euro Garages.

I mentioned back in November that the company has opened shops within the EG Group service stations in the UK, and now it’s Europe and beyond.

Vape Dinner Lady’s spokesman, John Taylor said:

Our new FSDU [free standing display unit] is a winning solution for retailers, having generated significantly more in sales value and margin from a smaller footprint in store trials.

It presents a new advantage for retailers looking to capture a share of the growing vape market and delivers a superior shopping experience for the consumer.

The new displays are designed on the multi-award winning Lemon Tart flavoured e-liquid.

With the French vape market estimated to be worth around €350 million per year, it looks like rich pickings for the Lancashire based company.

Good to see an award winning UK vape company doing so well.

UK Vape Shop Fined For Under-Age Sale

A Staffordshire vape shop has been hit with a huge fine after a Trading Standards ‘sting’.

Staff sold a 16-year-old girl what they’re calling an ‘e-cigarette refill’.

trading standards vape police

The shop was fined: £1,700 – given costs of £1,993.50 and made to pay a so called ‘victim surcharge’ of £170.

Prosecutor Lucy Daniels said the girl looked ‘quite young’.

Defense solicitor, Haseed Yousof, told the court:

There have been two failed test purchases in the last six years.

Following this incident, both directors have become extra vigilant and staff are reminded to ID anyone who appears to be under-age.

There is a new process where staff must sign a register when denying customers and they have also started a challenge 25 policy.

This is stated all over their social media and Facebook pages.

Trading Standards manager, Tony Shore, said:

This successful prosecution shows we take the selling of age-restricted products to young people very seriously.

We expect all retailers to operate within the law, which in this case is designed to protect children and young people.

We recognise the benefits of e-cigarettes as an aid to quit.

However, it is not appropriate for children under the age of 18 to be using e-cigarettes.

Test purchasing operations are a good way to make sure that retailers have strong policies in place on all age-restricted products.

Our trading standards team provides guidance to support retailers to comply with the law.

We will not hesitate to take enforcement action where it is appropriate to do so.

“Not Rocket Science”

Meanwhile a vape shop in Reading caught selling to a 15-year-old, was fined £800 – ordered to pay costs of £2,041.88, with a victim surcharge of £80.

UKVIA’s John Dunne tweeted:

When will people learn.

Hopefully this will wake some people up.

Don’t sell vapes to minors people it’s not rocket science.

It really is that simple folks.

Not only could it be wallet busting expensive to the shop owner – under-aged sales add fuel to the anti-vape fire that’s smouldering here in the UK.

Now Vaping Supposedly Makes You Depressed!

Scientists reckon vapers are twice as likely to become depressed than non vapers.

Pretty sure the only depression the majority of vapers get is when they can’t afford that new shiny mod or tank…

vaping

But, and in all seriousness, let’s see what the researchers from the lofty Johns Hopkins University have to say.

Lead researcher Dr. Olufunmilayo Obisesan, said:

At the very least, our findings warrant careful and thorough evaluation of e-cigarette use in both youth and adults with depression.

Ummm…

The team looked at ‘data’ gathered from 892,000 people and taken from the US federal surveys in 2016 and 2017.

They reckon given ‘most e-liquids’ contain arsenic – aluminum and lead – they are key contributors to the nervous system – meaning vapers are more prone to mental health issues.

Wait…What???

She added:

This study will inform the public that there could be an association between vaping and depression.

You should know this if you decide you want to pick this up.

Meanwhile here in the UK, Ladywell Unit at Lewisham hospital is handing out FREE e-cigarettes to it’s patients.

Yet another great divide between the USA and the UK when it comes to vaping.

Norway Joins the TPD

The Norwegian Government says it will finally lift the vape ban and bring in TPD regulations.

E-cigarettes and vape products can now be advertised at point of sale – and marketed online.

Any products for retail will still need to go through the 6month testing phase before being given the green-light for sales.

Norwegian Union of Vapers

Trond Meier, from Norsk Dampselskap/Norwegian Union of Vapers said:

Legalising vaping in Norway is a welcoming development and we congratulate our government for aligning with the EU’s TPD.

However, there is still much negative publicity around vaping in the media and many details still to become clear so our welcome must be cautious for now.

There is still more work for us and our ETHRA partners to do.

Absolutely, none of us within [or without] the EU can afford to be complacent – especially as TPD2 is looming.

EcigClick 2019 Awards – Voting Polls Still Open!

The only vote you need to be thinking about now is this one!

The polls are still open for you to vote for your favourite vape brand – tank – juice – reviewer and tons more.

ecigclick-awards-live-polls

As usual we’re seeing changes in the lead on most of the sections with some extremely close to call – so every vote matters.

We’re also seeing a spike in childish and idiotic comments – which we now have a ZERO tolerance policy operating.

We’re all supposed to be adults in the vape world – at times it certainly doesn’t feel like it.

We have strict security measures on the back-end which flag suspicious or block votes and nope we don’t ‘massage the figures’ at all lol.

Hey Jonny is used to the negativity, but even so spitting dummies out of the pram because your favourite is losing is well, just silly and extremely childish!

A comment from Chris Hollinshead speaks for us all I would hope:

I’m shocked to see some of these comments bitching about other people and companies especially with what’s going on in the vape world with all these needless bans of vaping.

Come on guys let’s stop this pointless bickering and just show support for the vape industry.

Absolutely mate – this is a website NOT a live vaping drama filled YouTube stream….

Oooo feel the burn lol.

OK – drop your vote in the EcigClick 2019 Vape Awards now!
